Could you please re-tell me if you know anything specific about the
japanese edition? How many copies will there be? What will be the
difference to the normal edition?

I currently have 2 programs to play AU files on a DOS machine. (one
is a Windows version of the dos one) They are plany and wplany. I
found plany.zip at oak.oakland.edu in /pub/msdos/sounds (I think) I
found the (very weak) windows version on AOL, but it should be on
internet also. The only thing the windows version allows you to do
is to associate the extension so you can double click in file manager.
Hope this helps.

The MPEG 2 player can be obtained at the music.net site in the /pub/windows directory.

There is a nice windows au. player called Gold Wave, it plays .au, .snd, wav, .pcm, and a few other types. I think I got it from wuarchive.wustl.edu, I originally found it through an Archie search. It has nice editing features and a built in spectrum analyzer display window.

I just heard Lie on the radio. I had heard the sample from the FTP site, but I was not prepared for such a heavy song. I thought it was good, but it sounded VERY gimmicky. It was like one of those Metallica songs that one listens to and loves for a couple weeks and then puts away and never listens to again. I couldn't find anything very musically interesting about the song. I see why Kevin left. I still love the band (I think), but Lie is definately a loss....

There once was a FAQ for this mailing list. I'll see if I have it archived (if so, I'll add it to the ytsejam-request/listserv archive).
As to reference postings...
I'm currently re-writing the digest mode so it will allow custom headers and footers. The custom footer will include addresses and pointers. The INFO file for ytsejam also includes this info, as does the WELCOME message that new users get when they subscribe.
Since there's an increase in new subscribers during the fall, I plan on reposting that message weekly through September. Irritating to long-time readers of the list, but a boon to new subscribers.
As to the FAQ, I'll repost it when I find it (I'll also contact the author to see if it's still active).

Well, the song is not as strong melody-wise. But, rythmically it is awesome. This is the case with a lot of heavier sounding music, It's hard to sound heavy in a major mode, you have to play in something minor or nonstandard (melodic minor). And these are not naturally nice modes to listen to. They have a harsher, more aggressive and evil feel to them.
Anyway, I must say that the song did not impress me to much at first. But after listening to it a couple 40 times or so. I have a better feel for it. You have to respect the tightness and execution of the rythm playing of the song. I think the soloing is incredible also. You can tell Petrucci has been practicing--he's improved a lot!
I really freaked when the last section of the song began. The pup-sounding "duh-duh-duh, duh-duh-duh, duh-duh-duh" part. That's some of the coolest music I've heard since I&W.
All I can say to everyone who's going to hear Lie for the first time in a little bit is that you should not judge it right away. If I had quit listening to I&W when I hated it, I wouldn't be the extreme DT fan I am today.
