    >> I just read in the AOL Dixie Dregs folder that Jordan Rudes has replaced
T Lavitz for their current tour. Anyone? <<

Yes, I've heard this too, at least for a few gigs in Florida. But
according to hard information on alt.music.deep-purple last week Steve
Morse also has joined Deep Purple so I've no idea what's going on! :)

    >> Don't know who made the comment on Shawn Lane joining DT but if that
ever happened I would be one happy man! <<

What!? What!? Now that would be _truly_ scary.. :D

    >> Shawn is an incredible musical talent not only is he a great
keyboardist/pianist but an awsome guitar player! This guy will put many
"so called" guitar heroes to shame just tuning his guitar (ok ok bad
joke :{)} )! If you want to hear how this guy sounds, I strongly sugest
that you go out and purchase his CD "powers of 10" on Warner Brothers,
then you can judge for yourself! <<

    Couldn't agree more.

    >> One last thought, is anyone familiar with the Foundations Forum? I
believe that Dream Theater, Fates Warning and Yngwie Malmsteen among
others will be performing there September 22-24! <<

Correct AFAIK. Yngwie said he's headlining and so did DT's management in
regards to DT, so perhaps they're headlining on different days..

    > I'm afraid the above mentioned scenario is a *little* too scary. Imagine
this: Shawn and Petrucci doing this ripping guitar/keyboard double lead
thing and all of a sudden Shawn starts going faster and faster and THEN
puts on a guitar and totally shreads John! As great as John is, this is
what would happen if SL were in DT, IMHO. But, seriously, Shawn would
make a fantastic addition to the band! AND he's a great songwriter too. <

Agreed! Somehow I don't think Shawn would go for it though.. :)

BTW I've got a good story about the first time I met SL, in a store in
Memphis called "strings'n'things" ... I was "showing off" (at least
that's what I thought :) and in comes Shawn and plays along with "presto
vivace" (UK song) at full speed. On guitar! :)

And it wasn't even a real guitar, it was one of those awful 'roland
synth guitars' with the stupid 'handle' on top. The strings were about
an inch above the fretboard!! I was in a state of total, utter and
complete disbelief and amazement. And it later turned out that: a) he's
extremely musical, and not only a "typist". b) he knows how to play
piano really good too.. c) him, me and my brother all hated the same
    things. ;)

There's more to the story (yngwie stuff) but I'm in a bit of a hurry.. :)

    > No...this is just too scary to happen. <

    :) that's kinda what I thought too...

More realistically, if Jordan Rudess don't work out they should perhaps
look into Dave Rosenthal or Steve Hunt. Or Jim Beard?

    Or T Lavitz? :)

    Hi,
I recieved some mails about getting AWAKE Japanese limited edition from me.
I think I had better to answer on this list because probabry there are other
people who have similar questions I recieved.

1.) The dates you can get AWAKE from me
The release date of AWAKE Japanese edition is Oct.10th 1994. So, I can get
its on Oct.10th and send you all on the day. It takes about 1 week from Japan
to U.S.A., U.K., and all European countries. If you live in other countries,
it takes about 10-12 days from Japan.

2.) About AWAKE bonus CD single
I heard it includes only "Eve", but it is STUDIO version. :):):) Eve is on a
8cm CD single.(It's as small as minidisc.) Can you play a 8cm CD single? If
not, please mail me. I also send you an adapter.

Japanese edition has same liner notes as American version has. It also
has some extra papers written in Japanese, but they are translations of
lyrics or something. You can get liner written in English. No problem! :)

3.) How to order AWAKE Japanese edition
\3000(3000 yen) of International money order is the best. But I can exchange
U.S. dollar into Japanese yen easily in bank. So, it's OK you send $30 in cash
(bills). I can't recieve other money order, cash, and check. Please choose
one of them, international money order for 3000 yen or $30 in cash. If you
don't know about international money order, please go to a post office and ask.
My mailbox has a lock, but please take care not to see the cash from outside.

There are many people want to get the limited edition in Japan. So,I must
make advance order in the shop until Sep.20th. Please order until Sep.20th.

When it comes time for DT to start touring, is there someone on here
(c-man?) that will be able to provide us with tour listings?
I plan on seeing DT at every show in the Maryland, Virginia, DC, Delaware,
    Penn. area!!!!

Any word on Fates Warning being with them?

Has anyone seen anything new yet at the ftp site? I've been checking but
    nothing yet.

    See ya!

Hmmm... sure... it's a nice METAL rhythm.... but it doesn't have any astounding time changes or odd time beats in the tradition of Dream Theater... and the singing.... HAHAHAHA whatta cliche...

Hey, anyone who subscribes to Guitar World got a wicked bonus in their last issue:

A KILLER Dream Theater sticker... It's the (M) logo, but it looks all painted on a brown background. The closest thing I can compare it to is Rush's Chronicles cover...

On the back, it listed all the song titles, and the release date... Oct. 4

The coolest thing is Guitar World ever....

About the only thing clean about this song is the beat...

This song gets too much into the grunge area for me, which steals the energy from the song more often than not. Also, part of the singing sounds very forced within the Mother Mary verse, particularly the last line ("but once is just enough for me")

I don't like to call DT selling out, but if this is the first song released (and from I just read, it is), I think they ARE trying to drum up interest with a frigging grunge song. Though there had always been some element of it in their albums (which blended well), it never got this bad ;p

I agree! It's even more important for me since all I will be able to see them at, is Phoenix area and Tucson area (Arizona) shows. No other metropoli are close! Granted, they played three times last tour amongst those two areas, but I want to see them ALL! :)

I just got a promo copy of the Lie single. It has a VERY cool cover which I hope is similar to the Awake cover. It has this really cool clock face with Roman numerals and a big eye in the middle with a bunch of clouds in the background. There are 2 photos of the band. Kevin is in both and, interestingly, is the backmost person in each photo. I don't know if this was a conscious decision but I did notice that in the latest bio from EastWest at the top of the sheet are the names/instruments of the *current* members and not Kevin although Kevin's split is mentioned in the bio itself.

That, or, the fact that Dream Theater has always drive delving into different sounds in their songs. I wouldn't say they're trying to "drum up interest" so much as "Hey, I like this sound, lets see what happens when *we* try it."

John Petrucci once told me & my roommate, while hanging out in a hotel after a show in Rochester got postponed due to blizzard, "We grew up listening to the same music you guys did. Metal, pop, all of it. The five of us while having similar tastes in music, do have some different likes and dislikes. Our sound is going to vary a lot, and some of the stuff is going to sound more like pop from time to time, really heavy from time to time, to very classical from time to time. I hope people understand that, and don't misunderstand our intentions." (This isn't verbatim, Ender, do you remember more acurate exactly what he said?)

You guys gotta expand your horizons. The real fun is driving up and down the east coast to see them: Rochester x 2, (my roommate made it to the limelight show), Pittsburg, DC x2, Baltimore x2, Virginia Beach, and I would have been at a show in Denver if I hadn't lost the master link on my motorcycle chain in Kansas City... 8-)
