As one of the moderators for the up-coming IRC session, I
wanted to give the basics, as I see them:
    Channel: #DreamTheater (NOT #DreamTheatre :-))
    +m for the channel
+v for the band and the askers
    +o for the moderators (obviously)
The reason I wanted the band +v is so that they don't get
people pestering them to make them operators.
Since it's moderated I see no need to make the channel
    invite-only, though.
Anyway, that's just my thoughts on it, and I'm always up for
    suggestions/improvements/etc.
Thanks, and I can't wait for this!!

    -Jason

PS: I downloaded the sound files this weekend and I've had them
playing all day in the office (good thing I mooched that soundcard
    from a friend :-))

Just a quick note on the Ansi DT art... Ansi is a set of control
characters that allow for graphics (as well as other stuff, but that's
what is pertanent here). Anyway, to view it on _my_ unix station, I
    had to type:
    setenv TERM ansi

as well as setting my term program to discplay ansi. On a workstation
(I just tried it on our SGI Indys, it didn't work too well)

As a last choice, in you are on a DOS machine, load up ansi.sys (or
ansi.com if you have it) and type :type <filename>

It will be fast, but will work.

    Hi fellow YtseJammers-

I guess since most of you have settled back in at school for the fall term and re-subscribed to the list, you know by now that Kevin Moore has left the band. I'm terribly upset about this, as I'm sure many of you are, but it really was something that the rest of the band members saw coming for a long time. Kevin wasn't happy being in DT anymore. He no longer felt that he was being honest with himself musically and felt that his creativity was being stifled, so it really was the best decision for everyone involved. Usually when the excuse "musical differences" is given as the reason for departure by a band member, it sounds awfully hokey, but in this case, it is actually very true. Kevin plans on pursuing a solo career and, at this point, has the full support of and is still being managed by DT's management company, Round Table.

Since so many of you have publicly voiced your concern over this matter, I thought it would be appropriate for those who are interested to be able to let Kevin know how they feel and express their support for him personally. If any of you would like to send a message of support to Kevin, please e-mail it directly to one of my on-line ID's (*DON'T* post it to the YJ mailing list), which are:

    air dance@aol.com p.terrell@genie.geis.com mriodom@delphi.com HTTR83B (on Prodigy)

with the subject heading "Kevin Moore". All of your messages will be printed out & compiled, then forwarded in a package directly to Kevin on September 30th. Please try to send your e-mail out to me at least the day *before* that date to ensure that it is included. If it doesn't make it in time, don't worry too much, I'll continue to compile your notes and send more of them in another package at a later date if they keep coming. :) I won't be able to acknowledge that I have received each of your notes personally, but I will post a note publicly on YJ near the end of the month listing the ID#s of the people whose notes I've received. If your ID# doesn't appear on the list at that time & you did in fact send me a message, please re-send your message to me again to ensure that it is included. And *please* spread the word to the other on-line services about this support network for Kevin, the YJ mailing list is the *ONLY* place where I am posting this note.

Leaving DT was an *extremely* difficult decision for Kevin to make and he needs all of the kind words and well wishes he can get right now. If his music has touched you in any way, please let him know that you care. :)

I would greatly appreciate it. I'm willing to send you a check to cover the prise of the tape and postage, if your willing to 'take the time' to copy it for me. Thanks in advance. I've been a huge DT fan ever since Kev who used to play piano for my local drama group (how he earned money before I&W hit it big) gave me a live piano rendition of Under a glass moon. I know this isn't technically Dream Theater, but enough of us are crossover fans, I thought I'd post this here... those of you who by some strange twist of thinking dislike King's X, go ahead and delete me.

Did anyone else here get that "Building Blox" King's X promo CD in the mail? I got my copy today and wow! It sure made my day! Here's the track listing from it:

The World Around Me Dogman Pillow <- Yes! Yes! The best KX song, right there Over My Head King We Are Finding Who We Are Pretend It's Love Black Flag Power Of Love Complain Goldilox Shot Of Love (Acoustic) <- A nice treat for us, I think! Summerland Moan Jam

Needless to say, when I happily mailed the online program for King's X, I wasn't expecting something good of this magnitude! I'm a very happy camper right now. This will tide me over until Awake and further.

    Is there a King's X digest?

    If not, shouldn't there be?

    Hmmm.

I'm already trying to get my crap together so I can start a Galactic Cowboys digest. I wonder...

A final thanks to buffalo@panix.com, the C-Man him/herself, who apparently was responsible for my receiving this fine CD.
