Greetings --
This is the first time I've posted in several months... I've been a
'lurker' for a while. I remember a little while back when people were
announcing that two members from DT were going to go on-line for some
sort of e-interview :) .. Did that ever end up happening?? Had anyone
logged the session somehow?
If so, can someone please post it or email it to me? I would be
most grateful!!

Well, here are my guitar highlights from Awake:
Anything with the low-B string. The Mirror, Lie... Both have mega-chunky
riffs that make Slayer sound like pussies...
And, the very Vai-ish lick at the end of Erotomania... Oh my God! That
makes up for the entire song, which totally lacks the structure of Ytse Jam.
The solo in Lifting Shadows from a Dream... Perfect!
I haven'
I haven't stopped listening to this album since I got it... It's just amazing.

Hey there. I am a lurker with a bit of interesting info (maybe). Is there
anyone out there who is a Tesla fan? I have been listening to their new
album ("Bust A Nut") for the past couple of weeks trying to figure out
where this cool melody in on of their songs was from... I knew that I had
heard it, but I couldn't place it. It hit me today what it was from...
Tesla lifted the intro (which re-appears in the body of the song...) to
Yetse Jam! If anyone out there wants to find it, it is on the third
track, 'Shine Away', at 3:42 into the song. I wonder if they lifted it
intentionally (are they DT fans?!?) or if it was an accident... Anyway,
I thought it was interesting...

Can I still order the Peart drum solo tape? (PLEEASE?? :)) Also, what
about just a VHS copy of the Rush video? I don't have a need for the SVHS
copy since I don't have that kind of VRC (I want one though. :)) Anyway,
what about it. I REALLY want the Peart drum solo tape.

To all of you whom have heard Awake:
Can you put a rating on each song from one to ten?
Actually can you rate the songs twice? One rating is comparing the song
to other songs on Awake, and then the next rating is comparing the song
to all other Dream Theater songs.
Also, is Barfbag anywhere on there?
I think they should have Part 5 of the Gangster of Boats trilogy. That'd
kick ass! :)

Can I second this notion!!! I'm not going to a show as of yet (hopefully
they'll hit St.Louis or Kansas City)...but would defintely want a shirt
in case I ever do get to go to a show!!! Plus, it's a heckuva' way to
advertise us (specially' with three colleges in town!). Thanx in advance!

Actually, they're all at least a ten!!! Just some aren't as stand out-ish
as others...I can honestly say I like every song, but a few of them have
parts that they could've done without...this is by far an excellent
album, but just like the others, takes some geting used to (I've listened
to it at least 50 times since I got it...Monday). Just wait till the 4th,
you'll see a ton of posts discussing that stuff...and a week later
everyone will take back whatever bad things they said about the album. My
only thought is as to what they're going to open with....I kinda think
6:00 would be really cool to start with..cause I'm weird like that I
guess. Anyways...I know you people are getting sick of hearing from me (i
already got a letter from a dude pointing out that I post too much)...so
I'm shutting up for the evening...oh wait, one last post after this. Later!

playing was terrific. IF he will join DT he won't have a
problem playing Kevin's parts. The only thing i didn't like was his keyboard
sound. But maybe he had no control over this since he was filling in. His
sound was too piano-like, and often he hit such high notes that it was hard
on the ears.<<<
His sound was really the main problem I had with his performance at the
Foundations Forum w/DT, but in a completely different way than what you
described w/the Dregs. He had some kind of filtering effect on the keyboard
at FF, to make it sound more "analog", I'm assuming, but it was just *very*
annoying to me. The fact that he was reading sheet music and didn't seem to
fit into the band at all didn't help matters any either, :) , but he is
definitely a fine player though, no doubt about it.
>>>I wore my ytsejam t-shirt, and he did notice it. But what blew me
away was that Steve Morse was wearing one of DTs t-shirts. It was
a tanktop with the Majesty logo on the front, glittery-gold "Dream Theater"
above it, and the Japanese flag, and Japanese writing on the back. It was
really cool. Is that a shirt from the last tour, or will it be the new
one?<<<
Ahhh, that's one of the Japanese tour shirts from the _I&W_ tour. The only
reason I know is because I have one too and the only reason I have it is
because Kevin Moore was nice enough to give it to me. :)
Steve Morse wearing a DT shirt, coolness! :) Wish they'd tour together, but
then I guess Jordan might have a wee bit too much work to do! ;)

First off...SORRY FOR THE LACK OF DT CONTENT!!! This dude paged me the

this from, cause he's trusting me to help him out some. Take care, and
like I said, tell him I sent ya!!! Later!
Have you been wanting to get some quality air time on a popular radio show
that's scouted by A&R reps from Record Labels (Major and Independent)?
Want some good EXPOSURE?
I've been doing "CUT RADIO" on Zrock for two years on Sunday
nights ... local and regional unsigned band show, but soon will be on
a 100,000w rock station (FM) starting in a few weeks ... signal goes
all over north Florida, South Ga and SE Alabama ... and will have
unsigned bands in the mix with signed new stuff like Stick, Galactic Cowboys,
Therapy, etc ... (Dream Theater of course!)
I will be doing a catalog - mail order - for unsigned bands by the 1st
of '95 ... in the works ... will take "basement tapes" from bands that
are clean on cassette, dat and reel for airplay too... I've got a CD
recorder ...

I'm sure that Digest is too big and we have to wait so long. but when you
set 'noack' mode, you'll receive about 20 mails everyday. If you don't read
mail for a few days, your mailbox will be flood! If you don't like it, you
had better keep on Digest mode. Anyway, the choice is depend on yourself!
BTW, about the way for chainging mail mode, you should read document
that was sent from YTSEJAM when you subscribed. If you lost, ask me again!

Well, first off, I got my tickets today!!! Got them for Prividence
and Boston. Providence is gereral admission/open seating, although
Mike Masi told me that it was an 18+ show. (hope you can get a
ticket). I actually called at 9:30, b4 tickets went on sale at
Boston, but I was on for so long that by the time I finished getting
my Providence ticket, Boston was on sale in 2 mins... For Berklee, I
ended up with Row G of the orchestra section, I counldn't get anything
closer, even though I was on the phone when they went on sale...
Anyone familiar with the Berklee Center have a reason?
For my 1 ticket to Providence, prices I paid $19.75. For 2 tickets to
Berklee, I paid $48. Anyway, call soon for your tickets.
The person said that doors open at the Strand at 8:00, so I don't know
when the show is scheduled to start. Time given for Boston is 7:30.
Also, for Tim Lodge and everyone else going to the show, I have
already been in contact with a few people, and I think that we are all
going to have a get together b4 at least Providence and probably
Boston also.
I guess that I could organize everything, but my problem is that I
have never been to either area, so I have no idea where we could meet.
For the Strand, b/c it is general admission, I want to be at the doors
at least an hour b4 the doors open... Possibly earlier.
So far, I people that I have heard from that want to get together are
Mike Masi, Tim Lodge, Chris Anderson/his band, panther@mit (sorry, I
forget your name) and John Casebolt. Also, for any Boston people, I
should have room in my car when going to Providence, if anyone lacks a
ride (I am going by myself to the show).

There's no problem with Neil tapes, I can still make those. But I'll only physically have one VCR... so I can't make more video dubs. :(

I called yesterday about tickets for the Dallas DT show and TicketMaster didn't know anything about it. I'm pretty confused. I tried getting ahold of the club, but I can't get an answer there either. The show was announced in an advertisement for the club in a local Dallas paper called the 'Dallas Observer'.
I guess I'll check in with them again next week. I didn't see any other dates for Houston, Austin, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, etc. But I am planning to go to all of those shows.
BTW, are all the YTSEJAM T-Shirts gone..? I've been on the list for a few months now, but I think you guys all ordered them a little before I got here. I'd really like to get ahold of one though! HMM.... well that brings me to another question. Does Erotomania have a real definition or is it made up. Maybe the definition would lead us to understand why it "mirrors" a lot of the other songs... man I can't wait for the freakin CD!!!! :)>>>
Erotomania is the first part of "A Mind Beside Itself" and shows themes from Voices and The Silent Man. But, when you hear it you'll see that it really does have definition. A real highlight!

Yes! And thank YOU, Ken, for getting this thing rolling again for us! I think all of us can put up with a *little* inconvenience of missing a day of the digest and not a week like it did not all that long ago! Keep up the great work!

Has anyone heard of DT booking any dates in the Denver area? I've seen the list of dates so far, and they excluded Colorado all together! I would appreciate it if any one could find this out for me! Thanks! -Adam

Just got my ticket for the Chicago show. Please email me if anyone else is going. I'm dropping my family off in northwest Indiana and making the trek to Chicago by my lonesome, so hanging with someone from the list might be cool (and a lot less boring that waiting by myself).

Ditto.
Now if I could only get the choruses of 6:00 and Caught in a Web out of my head!!!!!!!! Both song have me hooked. And forget I ever heard the chorus to Innocence Faded (don't worry, I'm digging the rest of the song!)

My best friends and I were listening to Awake yesterday, and we remarked, "Wow! There's going to be some SERIOUS moshing to this song!" as Caught in a Web was playing. Listening to the rest of the album, there's MANY songs that are mosh-worthy. How do you all feel about this? I enjoyed the last 2 tours so much because I could stnd in awe and drool without having to worry about who was going to come flying at me from behind. I hope the shows don't turn into mosh-fests! -Adam

Well, here's my (and mine only) rating of songs on Awake:
6:00 -- 9 (I love the intro, it's definitely catchy) CIAW -- 8 IF -- 5 Eroto -- 6 Voices -- 7 Silent Man -- 8 Mirror -- 8 Lie -- 9 LSOAD -- 9 Scarred -- 8.5 SDV -- 9.9997 (love it, but after LTL, it can't get a 10) -Adam

Just was listening to Erotomania. How about the real up-tempo part that sounds like acoustic guitar where Mike is doing the really fast sticking between his hi-hat and his higher toms ala Neil Peart. Awsome!!!!!

Eroto also has parts from 6:00, CiaW, and Innocence...listen closely!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to the circle of fifths, and the pattern of sharps and flats: If the alphabet continued as notes progressed (Using Major Key Sig's) (i.e A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, etc.) eventually the key of Z Major would have 4 sharps.
