has anybody noticed that the DT symbol with which the young man on WDADU
is brandmarked appears to me to be very similar to the MCA Records logo

I just got my ticket for the Toronto show on Oct 25th at the Warehouse! It was
$18, which includes all the taxes and s/c. This works out to be $13.14
    American (what a deal!)

Anyways, I am going alone, unless I can find someone to go with. I know there
is someone else here at the U. OF WATERLOO0 who subscribes to YtseJam. If that
person, or anyone else in the area is wanting to go, mail me. I'll drive, and
    we'll split the gas $$.

Hmm, yeah, I got one of these when I saw them here :) much better than the
rather large burning heart on the other shirt (got that too). The Japanese
writing on the back says ... 'Doreemu Sheataa' (guess what that is).
Unfortunately, and this is a complaint I have against the majority of bands
that tour here (esp. Iron Maiden, Sepultura, Pantera). This was only available
in Large (i.e. small) size not Extra Large. So this shirt is a bit tight on me
:) and as usual will shrink due to excessive use and washing :(. Maybe my
washing technique is faulty :). Don't bother posting to the list about new
improved whiter than white although started out black washing techniques.
    Thanks,

    Martin.

I think I just figured out where another one of the samples from Space-Dye Vest
    came from.

The sample that has phrases like 'This is his biggest challenge ever' and
'No one can say how he feels', I believe that came from one of the O.J.
news broadcasts when he was in the Bronco going down the highway.
Can anybody back me up on this..? I thought I remembered some newscaster or
one of O.J.'s friends saying something like this on TV.

Has anybody traced down any of the other ones..?

    Later,
    Jason

OK, how many months ago did I say this? I was branded as a "jazzer" (whatever that means). I guess it takes a direct connection with DT to get a lot of people on the list to OPEN THEIR EARS to new players or players that they don't know about. Having first said it, I still think Shawn Lane should fill the DT keyboard slot.

Well folks, it seems that I'm going to have the opourtunity to give DT some free (and of course positive ;) publicity in my neighborhood.

A friend of mine (and a fellow DT fan) is an editor for Duke University's entertainment magazine R&R - which comes out weekly as an insert to the school's (well read) campus newspaper. The other day, he offerred me the job of writing a review for _Awake_ after the offical release. (Providing the label give the magazine permission to reveiw it - which they hopefully will.) Needless to say I accepted. ;)

It's about time I found a way to spread the word more efficiently than wearing my I&W T-shirt every so often. *grin* (And speaking of T-shirts, if anyone _is_ still selling the ones for the list, could you please send me e-mail about buying one?)

    -Tim Wyse (twyse@acpub.duke.edu)

P.S. Any glowing comments/quotes/opinions/etc will be gladly accepted and considered for the (completly biased) review. :)

These were compiled from several sources last week, and I want to add my comments, finally.

The thing is, this "more" becomes overwrought in songs like >Afterlife and Light Fuse. The rest of the album is excellently written, >and parts of Fortune In Lies and Status Seeker will bounce through my >head for days if I let them. :) Problem being, HORRID production. The >Broon Remixes of SS and AL are a blessing.

    > Too overdone. And this is coming from someone who appreciated all >of The Fountain of Lamneth! :) Light Fuse stood fairly well without the >CHEEEEEEEZY chorus. It should be its own song.

    >It would be nice if people would stop throwing around the word cheesy >when talking about DT...or at least define it when you use it. I don't >think everyone's on the same page here. Personally I love the chorus to >Light Fuse, and I don't see anything "cheesy" about it. The stuff the >keys are doing there is awesome. Overall, a brilliant song. The solos >especially. If only they'd had a better guitar tone for that album. >WDADU is a lot heavier than I&W but you can't tell because the guitar >sound just doesn't have any meat to it.

Light Fuse and Get Away is most certainly not cheesy. Calling this cheese is like calling Metropolis cheese. Light Fuse is also not too overdone. This song kicks ass, just as Met. and LTL do on I&W. The meter changes are simply awesome. The whole song would sound so much better if Charlie's voice wasn't so pussy (thats the cheese you hear),and the production didn't suck. Whoever said that the guitar on WDADU is watered, was right on. An easy way to compare is to listen to Status Seeker (studio) and then listen to it live. In the 2nd verse, the guitar chugs, and its heavy, not pussy like on the album. Thats why I want them to do LFAGA so bad on this tour. I'm dying to hear it souped up and especially with James. I think it will compare with Metropolis, IMO. As soon as they do this one, and ..Set the Sun, I'm making a WDADU live album from various bootlegs, and I'll probably never put the real one in again. With James and good production, you easily have an equal if not better album than I&W.

    Date: Mon, 26 Sep 1994 17:43:10 -0500 (EST) From: EMRST2@vms.cis.pitt.edu To: ytsejam@anthor.arastar.com Subject: Lie Message-ID: <01HHKQY0GR3MASBB6C@vms.cis.pitt.edu>

Well, I haven't posted anything about Lie because I was having so much fun watching all of you argue, and doubting Thomases think that DT was washed up. Now that Lie has been around for over a month, and most people on the list have Awake, I'll say what I've been holding in for awhile.

    >Anyway, I think what deserves criticism is the decision to use Lie as the first >single... who chose it?!? It certainly wasn't meant to stand by itself, but >it's awesome if you start from the beginning of The Mirror.

It's kind of confusing. I think Lie should be the first single, because I want to see them sell albums. This song will pick up the Pantera - Metallica fans who don't like Rush and Fates Warning - and I know a lot of them. I think it is important for DT to sell albums, or they will obviously not be able to please even us anymore. On the other hand, I think the single version of Lie bites it. The first time I heard Lie was when it was first uploaded onto the FTP site in its original .wav format. There was only one file. The song started right after the Space Dye Vest part in "Mirror". Only people with Awake will understand this. The part with just bass and drums, then the keyboards. It also included the Pup part and the solo at the end of Lie, which the single does not. I liked Lie from the first time I heard it, and I must have listened to it 50 times in two days. Then I laid off it for awhile. I picked up the promo single three weeks ago, and since I knew the song, I was looking forward to hearing it again. But I was very disappointed. I started not liking it and agreeing with most of you out there. Then I got Awake, and as popular has shown, Lie is kick ass. It just isn't right without the Mirror around it. So I give DT credit for trying to sell records, but not fucking their real fans in the process. I think an idea such as this is as creative as their music. These guys are definitely playing with more than a full deck. It appears that more of you share this opinion, so if for some reason you don't like LIE, I doubt you have awake. (Note: all of the other versions of Lie put on the FTP site except for the original .wav file omitted the intro just like the single does - explaining why you all thought it sucked.)

Friday 10/14 6:00 PM at The Roxy. Dream Theater will appear (but they don't mention if they will play)

The Roxy is located at 277 New York Ave (rte 110) Huntington, L.I., NY

    The hotline number is 516-424-ROXY.

I still don't know how the hell to get tickets for this. There is actually a regular show that night- Cannibal Corpse is headling- plus 6 other bands.

That's all I know, for now. Andy
