As far as my information goes Kevin wants to do a bit more an industrial
project...you can already hear some industrial sounds on SDV...

A few days ago,I heard the interview of John Petruci on the radio.
In the interview he said about Kevin.

According to him for last some years Kevin was fascinated by the
computerized music and industrialized music and so on...
So he sometimes looked boring and scamping his work in the live.
Because they were close friends each other since a long time ago,
Kevin was worried about what to do. But after serious consideration he
    decided to leave the DT.
John Petrucci said that his decision is for mutual benefit and
DT will be able to play live concert better than ever.

Hearing that,I got sad because I think talented persons can create
excellent matter by joining hands. Therefore marvelous works like
WDADU and I&W may not be created from now on.
But no one can change another person's mind compulsorily.
    The responsibility lies with nobody.

I'm lucky because I was born in the same period as united DT.
    Thanks all band members.....

Yes, I know some reasons why Kevin left.... New interview was broadcasted
on the redio recently.... I was VERY shocked.....

John P. told about Kevin's leaving and recent Kevin. According to John,
Kevin's liking became not progressive music or heavy metal. Now he is fond
of techno(I don't know how to say in English. I meant Kraftwark or Buggles
type music.) or industrial music... There are some songs without Kevin's
eagerness and input on Awake, John explained.

John also said that now Kevin is not at all interested in progressive/heavy
    music like DT's.

I'm very sad... I love all songs Kevin composed... I really respected his
genius for music, which could expresses many kinds of emotion....

I wrote down this interview on the online I use in Japanese. I couldn't
translate it, but now I'm thinking of sending a copy of these interview
tapes to people who orderd me Awake.(Please don't ask me more about this
matter.)Perhaps I can send it with Awake, so please hear it and tell what
    you think.

Or I hope other Japanese Ytsejammer(I know some Japanese subscribed here
recently. :) tell about it. But it was a long interview....

I think I know why Lie was chosen as the first single. Keep in mind when
you read this that my ideas and those of record execs. tend to conflict since
they are businessmen interested in making quick bucks and have little to no
idea why we like DT, nor do they care. As a result, one of a record exec.'s
major philosophies is cloning/formula-making; i.e. if something sells then
find as many clones of that formula as you can and saturate the market (which
is why it is so hard to find innovative music like DT).

Along these lines, I think Lie was chosen because of that Henry Rollins song
about lying (I don't know the title) that was on M(shi)TV all the time for a
while. I think some record exec. decided that since, ON THE SURFACE, Lie is
heavy and about lying like the Rollins tune, that it would make the record
    execs. the most money.

Well, after listening to SDV many many times... I don't see any reason why
it can't be played live... what a cop out... Another thing is, those of
you on the IRC session heard that they WON'T be playing the Killing Hand
    live...

Well, as far as I'm concerned, there are no songs on Awake that are on par
with Learning to Live, Metropolis, or the Killing Hand...

Although SDV is a pretty good song...

Wait, wait! We should not think so easily. We must think more. I don't think that Kev was the only one who has progressive sence in the band. Rest of the members are also good composer and surely have progressive sence. You guys (and me) who love Kev's beautiful keyboad sound, has a tendency to think that DT-sound is completely depend on Kev. But it can't be that. Remember that most of all songs are indicated 'music(or Images) by DreamTheater'. DreamTheater is not Kev, A set of 5 geneus musician are DreamTheater!

..Anyway I can't wait for AWAKE!!! thanks.

Of all the songs on Awake, I think "Lifting Shadows" might be the song to make this album a success. It's U-2ish, it has a very catchy melody, it's not structurally complex (like Innocence Faded!). It really has commercial potential, at least in Europe, I'm not too familiar with the US music scene.

I've REALLY REALLY begun to like "The Mirror." I usually like the softer side of DT (Wait for Sleep was my favorite off I&W), but somehow this one appeals to me a lot. I like the lyrics. Maybe it's because being a Finn I don't understand most of the other stuff :). I like the melody, especially the "Look in the mirror my friend" line. It really says a *lot*.

Wasn't ACoS Portnoy's, too? Maybe they should let him do more writing...

Yes but they were a 5 genius musician TEAM. They sounded great together and I'm just afraid that Dream Theater just won't be the team they were. Maybe they'll be an even tighter team now (even though I can't see it). That's just my opinion though.

Here in New York, Q104 is giving away copies of Awake this weekend and tickets to the show in the Manhattan Center. Grand prize is (as usual) that you get to go backstage, meet the band, and get an autographed guitar. It's been at least a month since I won anything on the station (at least won something and used my name.....last time I won Awake and 4 other CD's using a roommate's name). Therefore I'm eligible again. But of course, if I don't win, I want to be able to get tickets. Does anyone know when they go on sale (in NY)? Are shows selling out around the country, or are there still tickets available?

    I agree there.

    >what a cop out...

Well, I don't know about that.

    >Another thing is, those of you on the IRC session heard that they >WON'T be playing the Killing Hand live...

That sucks, but maybye they'll play the entire album (sans SDV) like they did on the last tour. > Well, as far as I'm concerned, there are no songs on Awake that are on par > with Learning to Live, Metropolis, or the Killing Hand...

What!? I must be in a minority, because I think Awake is better than IAW. It doesn't blow it away, but I think it sounds more coherent and thoughtful. The subtilties on Awake blow me away.

When I got the tape (thanks, Tim!), I told my buddy that I thought it was better than IAW. Big mistake. He said something like "No fuckin' way!" When we listened to it together, I could see that he wasn't too impressed, but because of my comment combined with his preconceived notion, I saw he wasn't listening to it as attentively as he should have. He thought 6:00 sucked! Bastard. > Although SDV is a pretty good song...

That's the understatement of the year! > > -The Doc

You suprise me Doc. I would've thought you'd like this album better since you're such a Fates Warning advocate. Care to expound on what you don't like about it as much? Someone said before that they thought Erotomania wandered too much, but after 20+ listens, I think it's a brilliant compositional piece--- certainly no Ytse' Jam, but it's a lot more refined and is a lot more complex.

The beginning of The Mirror *is* pup. The rest of the song is based on it, as is the solo at the end of Lie. > > > > > Scarred - Really long, really good. Approximately 10:42 seconds. I guess this is the equivalent of LTL on this album. > > max

Has anyone else ever given any thought to the possiblity of Kev rejoining the band? I mean I can see where he may have gotten bored with everything because they had been touring for over 1 year and then went right back into the studio. Maybe he didn't feel like going through that cycle again.

Maybe after sitting home alone and seeing the rest of the guys making lots of money, playing all over the world, getting lots of publicity, and most importantly, having fun playing music, maybe he will want to get back into it? Maybe he would come back after this tour?

I would be the 1st in line to buy a Kevin Moore solo album. He was my favorite part of the band. I just don't think that he could make any type of career out of it. I think a Kevin Moore solo album would sell less copies than WDADU or even the Majesty Demos for that matter. :)

I guess I still can't get over the fact that he left. I had finally found a band that I could call my favorite. I was finally a fanatic. Finding out that Kevin was leaving was like breaking up a long romance or getting a divorce. I still can't deal with it...

    I want my Kevin back!

"Brooklyn" - Kevin Moore when asked where he wanted to be in 5 years.
