My friend who works at a local record store just called and said that
he's getting a boot of a Japanese Awake show. We figured it's probably
from that PPV show so it's probably good quality.

Does anybody have this yet? Anyone know the title?

Holy shit...calm the fuck down. Its his opinion. He has a right to have it
and post it. You need to relax. Take a valium. If you dont like people
voicing opinions that you might disagree with..then you shouldn't be subscribed

I just wanted to send a belated 'thank you' to Joseph Kruger and David B.
Kuznick for their info on the new Steve Howe disc (sorry for the delay,
guys!) I do have 'Turbulence' and 'In The Grand Scheme Of Things,' and the
playing on those albums makes me wanna burn my own guitars!

    Hi everyone,

Finally catching up on my mail here. :) First of all, the final KM demo
dubbing list will be posted for the last time w/in a couple of days so that
everyone who hasn't gotten their copy yet can do so. :) I'm not making any
more dubs myself, on requests of Kev, so if you want a superior-sounding
copy, ask a dub site for one while they are still open!

Boy, the new FAQ seems to have stirred up some dust! ;) Whew, this is going
to "take some time" to answer, please be patient with me! :)

    Steve Borzilleri <silenzio@elwha.evergreen.edu> wrote:

    >>>Congrats to the FAQ crew for doing such a detailed job! The only problems
I saw were a few of the dates, such as IAW going gold in January of 1995, and
Awake being not only recorded but released during 1995!<<<

    Carmen J Pezzone <cpezzone@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu> concurred:

    >>>Some of the dates of SECTION 1 should be fixed. It said that I&W went
gold in Jan 1995 and that should be 1994, I think.<<<

To which Jason Skewes <jskewes@iadfw.net>, our illustrious FAQ maintainer &
basically, overall cool guy <G>, replied:

    >>>I realize that the year concerning Awake is wrong. However I have it on a
source VERY close to the band that IAW just went gold in January of this
    year.

It might have shipped gold earlier - but in units sold, I understand that
this just recently happened in January.<<<

And the source Jason is referring to would be ME. :) I think I posted to the
list about this last year, right after DT played LA in December. Someone
told me that they had heard that _I&W_ had gone *platinum*(!), so I asked
John Myung after the show about the sales figures for _I&W_. After he just ab
out fell in the floor from hearing the word "platinum"<G>, he told me himself
that the album was still just "inching" toward gold status at that point.
Then, once when I was talking to Kevin on the phone in January of _this_
year (that's right, 1995), he told me that Jim Pitulski, DT's manager, had
just called him that afternoon to give him the good news that _I&W_ had
finally gone gold. So, indeed, _I&W_ didn't go gold officially until January
1995, according to my very reliable sources. ;)

Onto the next matter at hand. :) IRT the religious symbolism in "Lie,"
    Chrisf <freel@iowa.physics.uiowa.edu> wrote:

    >>>Is this Kevin Moore, James Labrie, or _you_ talking?! I don't get that
    second interpretation at all...<<<

Actually, it was _me_ talking about what I know about the song from Kev, but
it wasn't a direct quote. The reason the religious interpretation was put in
the FAQ is because I provided it from the info I've gleaned from him about
    the song.

    Zack Gemmill <zack@lsil.com> wrote:

    >>>TSC refers to The Second Coming of Christ, the beginning of The Millenium,
and so on... foretold in scripture. *That's* the religious symbolism.<<<

    Bingo! :)

Chrisf <freel@iowa.physics.uiowa.edu> wrote back in response:

    >>>Not in context. I understand the religious reference fine, but...the
whole context of the song seems to be about a person heating/being cheated
on... the "you tell me 'bout yout two more coming" would make much more
sense as a reference to something like 2 more affairs.<<<

Can't the lyrics mean _more_ than one thing? :) Yes, they can, and they do,
at least in this particular case. The surface meaning is obviously about a
relationship between two people, but the underlying meaning is definitely of
a more esoteric nature. Kev is _very_ serious when it comes to writing
lyrics, you don't think he put "Mother Mary" and "doubting Thomas" in there
for no reason, do you? ;)

    >>>and how would the religious reference fit in with the next line...?
"But once is just enough for me"

Is the person saying he doesn't want Christ to come again?<<<

That's the general idea, yes. :)

    >>>I think that's throwing too much religion into a song about a bad
    relationship.<<<

Not really. It's just a different way of looking at the situation. We all
have spiritual relationships of one kind or another w/ourselves, yes?
Sometimes we fight within ourselves about spiritual/religious issues as
well, and the pain caused by that inner struggle can be just as strong as the
pain caused by a "real" relationship, if not _stronger_, can't it? That's
what this song is about, feeling betrayed by someone and/or something you
believed in. The religious imagery only makes it a more _intense_ statement,
    to me.

    Todd O Klindt <tklindt@iastate.edu> wrote:

    >>>Shouldn't it be "You tell me 'bout your ONE more coming" since Christ is
coming only one more time. I would think that would be a distinction that DT
would be aware of and I don't think they would make that mistake.<<<

No, it's not a mistake, just a manner of speech, the way it's said. Christ
already came once, so the next time would be his "second coming," ie. 'two
more coming'. Very clever way to put it, if you ask me. :) It is a bit
ambiguous, yes, but that's one thing I've always loved about Kev's lyrics,
having to dig a little deeper to find the hidden meaning. Most of his lyrics
have more than one meaning (the hidden parts are usually the more personal
ones to him too) and this also helps to "personalize" the lyrics to every
single person who reads them as well. Reading lyrics you can't really relate
to on one level or another aren't much fun, are they? :)

    Steven Zebrowski <szebro1@gl.umbc.edu> wrote:

    >>>I really don't agree with the "religious symbolism" interpretation of
Lie.:) I have trouble assuming that "two more coming" has anything to do
with the "second coming" of Christ. They're just a little too
    incongruous.<<<

You are welcome to your opinion, but the religious symbolism is definitely
there, and it was definitely put there for a reason.

    >>>I think the only biblical allusion on Lie is the "doubting Thomas," and
with that it seems that Moore is just alluding to a character in the Bible as
a piece of literature, rather than some cosmic religious significance.<<<

Hmm. If that's what you think, you don't know much about Mr. Moore then, my
friend. :) "Cosmic religious significance" is an important topic to him.
And he was raised Catholic, you know; religious symbolism has and always
will be a big thing in his life, I'm sure. ;)

    >>>In contrast, I&W was chock full of religious themes <i.e. Surrounded>.<<<

"Surrounded" has as much to do w/James Joyce's influence as religion,
actually. :) And I'm sure there are some people who think "Surrounded" is
just a simple "relationship" song too, although you don't see it that way
    yourself.

I guess another thing to touch upon here is that maybe because "Surrounded"
carries such a _positive_ spiritual message and "Lie" carries a rather negativ
e one, people have had a more difficult time seeing the imagery in "Lie" &
have also had trouble reconciling the two, which is understandable. But
Kev's been through a LOT of stuff over the past couple of years & a lot of it
has been _negative_, like it or not, so his songwriting is going to reflect
that, naturally. How do you all feel about this? I'd like to hear some
opinions, since his newer lyrics, especially for _Awake_ & the demos, are not
the mostly positive stuff that you've heard from him in the past.

    >>>Personally, I think the "two more coming" refers to how many other guys on
the side the girl has, and the "once is just enough for me" lyric is the speak
er's way of saying that it doesn't matter how many times one cheats; one is
all it takes. But then, what do I know...<<<

It does mean that, but it means other things as well. :) The interpretation
of lyrics is an ambiguous pursuit at best, unless you happen to be able to
ask the person who wrote them what they mean. I'm lucky enough to be in that
position. I'm not telling anyone to accept the religious interpretation as
gospel (pun intended!!) or even to accept the more obvious "relationship"
interpretation at face value, & I'm sure if Kev were here, he would tell you
the same thing. I'm just relaying to you what I know about it from talking
to him, feel free to take it or leave it. :)

    More from Jason Skewes:

    >>>I have a few corrections to make, however I don't feel that I need to send
the FAQ back out to the list. If you want a corrected copy, I should have it
out to the Dream Theater archives (drkhoe's) and out to Mike Burstin by
    Monday.<<<

    I know. I spotted a couple typos I missed myself. Oops! :]

    >>>I even found out that I had Jens name spelled wrong.... Ahhhhhhhhh!<<<

I checked it for errors, so I hope that wasn't my fault! :] Sorry Jens,
    please don't hit me!! :) :) :)

    Take care everyone,

    Hey...
Yeah, I gotta admit that I cringed when I heard that TON was gonna
open for Queensryche, but that's just me. People, realize that the guy
who started this thread did add a "IMHO" to his comments, so go a little
easier on him.... For those of you who like TON and QR, good for you, I
hope you enjoy it. For those like me, who would have liked to have seen
_Someone Else?_ open for them, live with it, you still get to see
Queensryche. BTW- I really wanna hear the full band version of _Someone
Else?_, but I havn't gotten around to buying the _Bridge_ single...
A Bit Of DT- I heard somewhere (nothing I can really trust) that
Metropolis Pt II was gonna be on the EP with ACoS and _To Live Forever_
and _Eve_, but geussing M pt II as 10 minutes, thats around 40 minutes
long right there. That's getting real close to a full length album. Ok,
maybe a normal band's full length album :)

How about seeing DT 3 times last tour? Megadeth twice, Metallica twice (pre

Sending messages like this to the list will get you a much slower
response than sending them to ytsejam-owner@arastar.com

The fastest way of unsubscribing is to send:

    unsubscribe ytsejam

to ytsejam-request@arastar.com with a subject of "asdf" since that
will be processed by the server and the other two methods require
    the list manager.
