I've been lurking around for a while and decided to post finally. So ,
    there it is.

                                             No, here it is:

I've notice in Metropolis Part 1 that Kev does some wierd modulation
thing at 1:28. It is kind of low in the mix. It gives the song some
wierd feeling if you think about it.
Also, on LTL, on the Dream out Loud cd, the chord right after, "I
won't Give up till I've no more to give, no more to give." Really cool
chord that I think should have been louder in the mix on I&W, Does
anyone agree? Of course maybe not.

Laapy, I am a Tourniquet fan too. I think that Vanishing Lessons is
not their best stuff, but I really like it. Steve Taylor is cool. I
like him a lot. And Steve Vai's new album is awesome!
All for now, I just want to see if this works.

Hey all! Well lemme intoduce myself. I am a huge Dream Theater
fan. Ive been listening to them since Dream/Day Unite. I've seen em 4
    times live.

I collect autographs and I am honored to have Dream Theater in my
collection. The band thankfully signed a Images and Words (big) Poster
back in 92. I saw them in a pretty small club. Maybe 30-50 people were
    there. Awesome!!!! Thanks guys!

I am such a HUGE fan...I named my dog "Dream Theater". I tried
to get my mom to change her name to Dream Theater...she wouldnt go for
    it...(sigh)(grin...).

Look forward to enjoying the list! See ya!

The BBC would like to apologise for the following:
    ______________________________________________________________________
As some of you may have read, I have (as many others apparently do) a
tendency to air drum & freak out while driving. =)

Today, after class, I gave my mentor, Jim Gallagher (who's my audio idol)
a ride into Center City from Temple University in North Philly.

Since I had to get to I-95 North to go to my internship, I was kinda
stuck going a very strange way to get there - through the city. =)

After Jim got out of the car, AWAKE went back in the player. I went apeshit.
People were giving me the oddest looks...

However, there is a sticker on the back window of my car that is designed
to explain my odd behavior. It simply says: MUSICIAN ON BOARD.

    Hand-made, mind you. =)

I'd recommend you try that. Either that, or make one up that says:

    "AIR DRUMMER ON BOARD" <grin>

And lemme tell ya'll something - when I'm getting up at the butt-crack of
dawn to go home from my g/f's apartment (where I really should start
paying rent), there's nothing quite like "Scarred" to kick off my day. I
was accused by a female friend of being "waaaaaay too chipper" today. =)

Ah well. Not much DT content. And no technical jargon. Wow.

    PRO-TOOLS! 44.1khz! DAT! AAD/DDD/DAD/ADD! MULTI-TRACK! COMPRESSION!

Okay? =) Aaaugh, I'm in a silly mood.
If you live in the philly area, SPRUCE STREET REVIVAL (my band) will be
playing Villanova's EARTH DAY, April 29th. Email me for more info, although,
    that's all I know right now. =)

I've lost my mind, everything must go! Cheap! Cheap! Cheep!

I'm thinking about doing a con out west, in the Phoenix area.
It's accessible to both the California _and_ Texas users, which comprise
the larger segments of all southwestren Jammers.

It depends on how well things are going here at the complex. Of
course, since I doubt Dream Theater themselves will be here, I'd say
Babs' convention has an immediate upper hand.

Yes, as most of you already noticed, my blanks shipment is
late... I'm sitting here with everything ready to burn and nothing to
burn it on. I've already contacted the record company about the situation
(damn their lazy, slow souls to hell) and they have sworn over and over
that the discs will get to me "right away". Until then I can only watch,
wait, and wonder what _other_ company I will contact when I do When Dream
    and James Unite.

It certainly does me no good to have the CDs delayed, so I can
assure you all that I am as impatient to get 'em as you are... after
all.. I've got a lot of work ahead of me, and I'd like to get started! :)
I'll just have to leave it in God's hands, since if I don't get those
discs darned soon, you all know where to find me so you can lynch me!

Again, my most humble apologies for this inexcusable delay.

On the up side, I bullied them into fully pressing 10 discs for
every day that the order will be late, starting today. So, I will at
least have a handful already recorded, to send out immediately.

Yeah, Brett Garsed shall not be slammed. Underrated he is.

Nice to see some keyboardists emerging on the list. We have a good number
of guitarists and drummers from what I can tell. And while there has been
much, much discussion about John Myung's (mighty mighty) bass-tone, (pun
intended) are there any bassists who would like to come forward? Bassists?
    Any vocalists? Branch Dividians?

Did someone say they were in a DT/Rush COVER band??? Um, would the word
"demanding" be appropriate to describe that role? Just a little bit? The
idea of a DT/Rush cover band sounds like quite an achievement to me, and I
respect all musicians who charge into such mediocre-musician-devouring
music without fear! Whichever instrument you play, including the voice, a
cover band for those guys must be incredible. I applaud you!

I think we should also file Rod Morgenstein (ex-Winger) in this
category - if you've never heard anything else he's done, check out
"Bring 'Em Back Alive" by The Dixie Dregs. His drum solo is actually very

Yeah, it is - I think the guy has a 2nd Gen copy.

Not on the version I saw. Whoever shot it didn't get the camera
on until part way through Surrounded. =)

I actually suggested to the guy that he go through and edit the 3
videos together. Hell, I'd do it myself if he'd let me take them out of
    his house. =)

One night, this guy Dave I met at a DT show here in philly and I
were talking with Mike. He said, "I wish someone had videotaped this."
Dave & I were both like, "MAN! I LIVE ACROSS THE *%*$()# STREET!" aaaugh!

If they ever come through Philly again, I'm hanging out near
where they're playing and seeing if Mike can get me cleared to do that,
prior to showtime. =) That would be so kind.

Of course, now, this guy I know has a DAT & frequently records
    shows...recently, the Dead & Page/Plant. I think I could convince him to
let me have the DAT for a night...oh, I'm getting overly excited. =)

thank you! :) i was in a band that did DT/Rush/Fates Warning/Sanctuary/Megadeth/Puke Jam/Red Hot Chili Peckers (last 2 were obviously to get ppl to actually come and hear our originals :) among others. as i look back now, i can't believe i even attempted that shit. i'm still trying to work up my fretting speed (how i pulled off "Holy Wars" is beyond me; course, back then i played w/ a pick). anyway, in the middle of recording our 5 song demo, the drummer and one guitarist decide to leave and join a funk band :\ oh well...c'est la vie.

    Hello, everyone!

Thanks for the kind words, Babs. It's really not a bad situation. The main thing she hates is James, so during those long instrumental passages I can usually get away w/ it. :P For those jammers who don't know <or those who are desperately searching for DT content> this is in reference to my girlfriend hating our favorite band. But it's OK; we have a compromise. When she drives, we listen to what she wants, and when I drive we listen to what she wants. OK, OK, it's not much of a compromise, but DT does honestly give her a headache, and when she has a headache...well...uh...let's just say no one has any fun. ;)

Pretty cool to hear about the Petrucci and Moore families are practicing Catholics <I think?> I'm Catholic and I always like to hear about fellow Catholics who just happen to be demi-gods in their own right as well. I could always tell w/ Moore's writing, but w/ John Petrucci it was a little hard to put a finger on his faith until "Voices." Lots of that good old "Catholic Guilt" in that one.

    See Ya Steve Z

I live across the street from Chris and he's usually a quite okay guy. He's probably just got his head up his ass or something....

Well BABS (and anyone else), I'm a musician and I went through all the stupid phases of that sucks only this is good. Your ex sounds like a lot of people but boy/girl friends have an ability to say things they wouldn't to someone else. Anyway, the point is, the above sorta comment is clearly spoken by someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. It's a contradiction to be complicated if you have no talent. The true test is listen for feel. If a band plays an odd time and it feels good it is good. If it feels awkward, they're doing something wrong (like "trying" to be complicated). You can always ask him to fully explain his comment. He won't be able to and you win.

I can agree with the first part of your statement but not the second part (the rest of the band can be replaced). I think we'll see a different sound on the next album due to Moore's departure. I would also venture that Petrucci writes his parts and the rest of the band writes theirs. I also wouldn't doubt if other members contribute to each song even if the majority of it is one person's idea. Everything makes a big difference to a song - the drum, part the keyboard voicings, the bass line, the vocal melody and the guitar part. Only two songs on Awake don't credit Dream Theater with writing the music.

    Hey jammers....

Have any of you out there heard of the group Kerbdog? They are a group out of Wales in the UK, and they released their Debut album in 1993/1994. I've only been on the list for the last 8 months or so and they might have been discussed already, so if they have, I'm appologizing in advance. Anyway, on the exception of the album being "so-so," they have a few REALLY good tunes. They are a raw, heavy band; kind of a combination between Tool and Live, with some real good melodies, and progressive licks & time sign's. Just curious if they have anything new planned for recent months ahead, including new material or a tour. Any info would be appreciated.........

p.s. Sorry about the non-DT content; they still are the greatest in my book!!

They have released bits and pieces of it as extra tracks on the Bridge singles. BTW anyone have any east-coast dates for the current QR tour?

You're lucky. I've been waiting for over 3 months to get my tapes from Jeremy. I sent him a note ten days ago, and I haven't heard back yet.

I have traded successfully with Chris, though. Try again at his AOL address- I've just recently seen a post from him stating that he's been off-line for awhile. Try again.

It all depends. I don't mind waiting for tapes if the other party is upfront about being slow. Unanswered letters are definitely a problem.

Hopefully, it was only a few tapes.

Just to throw my two cents in on the Type O Negative thing, when I saw them open up for Panter in Utica, NY, they played for over 45 minutes, which amounted to 7 or 8 songs, I think. (They do have short ones...)

The last time I posted, I sang the praises of the new Warrant album "Ultraphobic;" a post which actually got a favorable response. (BTW, someone on this list asked me to mail him a review, but I lost your address; it's finished if you want it). So, as the self-appointed defender of "80's" bands, I thought it my duty to inform everyone that the Skid Row album "Subhuman Race" is out. Surprisingly, I've seen at least two people quoting the new album in their "sig.," so there seems to be potential interest among DT fans. "Subhuman Race" is in a lot of way the logical extenstion of their previous effort "Slave to the Grind," meaning that it is very, very, very heavy. They're using a lot of time changes, most of which I'm still trying to figure out. Now for the DT CONTENT: to those who have the album, it seems to me that drummer Rob Affuso has been listening to some Portnoy lately because he has really stepped out into the forefront on this album, especially on "Face Against My Soul" and "Medicine Jar." We all know that Sebastian Bach is into DT because of the LiT video, but I'm wondering about the rest of the band. And is DT a fan of Skid Row? It wouldn't surprise me. Anyone have any info on this? In any case, I 've taken up too much time already. Once again, BUY "SUBHUMAN RACE!" Especially all you drummers out there. It's very cool.
