Bafu is all-knowing and wise. Ours is not to question his motives, his
methods, or his identity. Rather, we should be happy to receive the grace
he bestows upon us with his presence. After all, you never know ;^)
We now move ahead in our program to a DT-laden question I've been meaning
to ask for quite a while:
In the LiT vid, does anyone else find it irritating that Portnoy's drums
are recorded w/ the audio channels reversed? The drumming is mind-boggling
enough normally, but it can really overload the synapses when the floor tom
is coming from the right, and the snare from the left. I know he's a great
drummer, but drum _ventriloquism_? I think that's pushing it.
And no, my stereo leads are not swapped.

Thanks to all of you religious people, you have driven me off the 'jam.
I don't want to read about God anymore. I get my religion on Sunday like
the good catholic that I am, but I don't want to see it here. I want to read
about Dream Theater and other RELATED topics.
Good bye, all. I have unsubscribed.

Yeah but

I just thought I'd point out that there are many non-Catholics who
celebrate Christmas as the birth of Christ. I won't get into the
Catholics-are-the-only-true-Christians argument because I thought that was
settled at Vatican II. Just wanted to point that out :). Merry Christmas,
man.

I wrote this in Ytsejam:
> Oh...MORMON. For a moment there, I thought you said MORON. And I was
> going to agree...<EG>
I want to apologize for this statement, or rather for the second one. If
I offended anyone, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply that Mormon are
morons. It's just that when I first read the post I responded to, DID
think it said MORON until I read it again. SO that's where the first
statement came from. As for the second, it was totally inappropriate.
I'm not familiar with the Mormon theology, so I don't know if they
believe that Satan is God's son or not. I'll have to take someone's word
for it. This is the FIRST time I have ever heard of that notion and I
thought that the guy who originally made the post about it was SERIOUSLY
misinformed on the Christian idea of the relationship between God, Jesus,
and Satan. If he's a Mormon, then I SINCERELY apologize to him for the
statement I made as well as any negative comments I made about his post.
When I first read his post, I thought it was the most rediculous thing I
had heard.
And here I am TRYING to be open-minded towards all religions after being
intolerant for so long due to my Catholic education. Anyway, if I
offended anyone with what I said regarding religion, I am TRULY sorry.

Just a quick question:
I read on here that Kevin Moore played on Fates Warning's song "At Fates'
Hands." I was just wondering if he also is the one playing on the altered
and supposedly different "At Fates' Fingers" which appears on Fates'
compilation Chasing Time. (I've never heard "At Fates Hands" so I have no
idea how different it is from "....Fingers" and if this is just a stupid
question.)
Thanks for any answers,

whole lot to see right now, but I think what's there is kinda neato.
Check out a transcript of my interview with Mike P. during the Images &
Words tour (which originally appeared here on the jam way back when...
anybody remember?), as well as a slightly "embellished" photo of the band
members saying what's on their mind. :) Oh yeah, and a link to Jeff Chew's

For Chrissakes !! (opening statement which should be good enough to guarantee
a few fuckazillion non-DT posts)
Paaaaleeeease, put a big fat lid on this IRC crap now !!!! I have got to
speak for many others who are tired as a MF about hearing all about people's
stupid little IRC problems. While I have no real clue about what an IRC is
(and dont give a shit - although being soooo tricky, I can kind of figure out
what it is), it seems to me that there are two issues that need to be
addressed:
1) Someone is being a real loser/jerk (the root of the problem), and
2) Too many people are writing about their personal problems in a public
forum (aka the ytsejam). Enough already.
If you are part of either #1 or #2, above, please consider the following
possible SOLUTIONS (numerically correlated with problem number, above, to
facilitate effecting the solution)
1) Quit being an loser/jerk and grow up, or
2) Quit writing about it here !!
As part of the solution, consider spending some of your "Quality IRC Time"
doing volunteer work for a local charity. You would be surprised how much
more satisfying it can be.

thought it might be a cool idea for a poll. So, those of you that wish
to stand up and be counted, e-mail me at cmerlo@moose.uvm.edu. Make your
subject say something meaningful like "DT Poll" or something, and include
the number of the first Jam you ever received. I'll accept answers until
Wednesday, 12/13. And Ken, if you'd be so kind, let me know how many
Jammers there are these days. I'll run some statistical tests and let
you know what I find.

To be held at the Holiday Inn, Rockville Centre, L.I., NY
------------------------------
Take the George Washington Bridge (I-95 North) into New York City. Once
over the bridge, follow signs for I-87 South, the Major Deegan Expwy.
The Deegan will take you past Yankee Stadium. Follow I-87 until it ends
at I-278. You have two choices: either the Bruckner Expwy, or the
Triborough Bridge. Take the Triborough Bridge to Queens/Long Island, NOT
to Manhattan. Keep reading below at Once Over the Triborough Bridge.
------------------------------
Take I-87, the NY Thruway, into New York City. Pass Yankee Stadium.
Follow I-87 till it ends at I-278. You have two choices: either the
Bruckner Expwy, or the Triborough Bridge. Take the Triborough Bridge to
Queens/Long Island, NOT to Manhattan.
Once Over the Triborough Bridge:
You will be on the Grand Central Parkway heading East. This will take
you past LaGuardia Airport and Shea Stadium (home of the Mets. Yay!).
Keep reading below at Once On the GCP.
------------------------------
Take I-95 south into New York. After you enter New York City, keep your
eyes out for I-295 South, the Throgs Neck Bridge towards Queens/Long
Island. Once you cross the Throgs Neck, you are on I-295 South, the
Clearview Expressway. Take the Clearview to Exit 1, the Grand Central
Parkway. You want to go East on the GCP, towards LI.
Once On the GCP:
As you are heading into Nassau County, the road will change names and
become the Northern State Parkway. Take this road to either Exit 31 or
Exit 31A (I forget which one). The exit you want is for the Meadowbrook
Parkway South. Take the Meadowbrook to the exit for the Southern State
Parkway West (towards NYC again.) Keep reading below at Once On the SSP.
------------------------------
Take the Outerbridge Crossing (Rte. 440) from New Jersey into New York.
Once over the bridge, stay on Rte. 440, the West Shore Expwy. The WSE
ends at I-278, the Staten Island Expwy. Take the SIE towards the
Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Take the V Bridge into Brooklyn, and get onto
the Belt Parkway East, towards JFK Airport. You want to get off the Belt
at Exit 25A, the Southern State Parkway East. This is a Left-Lane Exit.
Once On the SSP:
Get off at Exit 19S, Peninsula Blvd., Rockville Centre. Follow Peninsula
Blvd. for about a mile and a half. You should notice that there are no
intersections, and you're passing a park and a pond. The first traffic
light is at Lakeview Ave. Make a Left onto Lakeview Ave. The second
traffic light on Lakeview Avenue is N. Village Ave. Make a Right onto N.
Village, at the schoolyard. Take N. Village past the A&P and past the
church. You will go under train tracks. The first major intersection
after the tracks is about 100 feet in front of you. This intersection is
Sunrise Highway, Rte. 27. Make a Right onto Sunrise, and stay in the
right lane. The Holiday Inn is on the first corner you come to. Make a
Right into the parking lot. The entrance to the parking lot is on the
block you are on, before the next intersection.
TOLLS:
Now, I'm doing this from memory, but here goes:
Triborough Bridge and Throgs Neck Bridge: Either $3.00 or $3.50 (I can't
remember if it has gone up yet or not)
Verrazano Bridge: $6.00 (last time I was there), but you only pay in one
direction
Outerbridge and GW Bridge: $4.00 (roughly), but you only pay in one
direction.

Okay. The beginning of this is important, and a little compicated, so
read carefully. There are two entrances/exits to the Holiday Inn. The
one you came in was from Sunrise Highway. You have to leave via the
other exit, onto N. Centre Ave. Make a left onto N. Centre. You will
come to a traffic light at the intersection of N. Centre and Sunrise,
facing south. There should now be a CVS pharmacy on your right. On your
left should be a gas station, and behind the gas station, the hotel.
Travel straight for one block. This brings you to a 5-corners
intersection. You want to turn left, but not a sharp left. The sharp
left is Merrick Road, and the other left, at about a 30 degree angle
from you, is Lincoln Ave. You want to be on Lincoln Ave., heading southeast.
Take Lincoln Ave. until it ends in about 10 blocks or so. At its end,
there will be a Hess gas station on your right. Also, there is only one
way for you to go, and that is to the right. Make the right, onto Long
Beach Rd. You are now travelling south on Long Beach Rd. In about four
blocks or so, you come to a fork in the road. You want to bear left,
which keeps you on Long Beach Rd. You know you're still going the right
way if you see a Pizza Hut on your left after a couple of blocks. If you
see a post office on your right, you went the wrong way.
Continuing south on Long Beach Rd., you will come to a point where there
is a huge shopping center on either side of the road. There's a Gap on
the left, and a Pergament on the right. Keep going straight, and you'll
pass a big, stinky garbage dump on your left. Now you come to another
fork in the road. Bear left. You are now travelling south on Austin
Blvd. After about 10 blocks or so, you'll cross a bridge. Once you
cross the bridge, stay in your right lane. You are now on Long Beach
Blvd. In about four blocks, you will see a huge intersection. On the
near right corner is the Roy Rogers. The entrance to the parking lot is
on Long Beach Blvd., before the intersection.

Directions to the Malibu Beach Club, Lido Beach, L.I., NY
------------------------------
Remember that big intersection you saw before turning into the Roy's
parking lot? Well, you want to make a left onto that road, Park Blvd.
Now, this may be more easily said than done. You may have to go straight
on LB Blvd., and go around the block to get onto Park Blvd. Just
remember that you want to travel east on Park.
Once you are on Park Blvd, the rest is simple. Just remember to WATCH
YOUR SPEED on Park Blvd. It's really tempting to open it up, and the
cops know that. Also, Long Beach cops aren't the friendliest on LI.
Anyway, just keep going straight on Park Blvd. for about 2 miles or so.
At some point, it becomes un-divided and changes names. Just keep going
straight. Watch for the Nassau Beach club on your right, because the
Malibu is the next one. The entrance to the Malibu is on the right.
You'll see a sign that says "Malibu" and a smaller one below it that says
"Dream Theater 12/28" or something. (Yeah, they spelled it right!) Make
a right into the parking lot, and follow the "road" around to the right.
Plenty of free parking.

Hi! I just wanted to let you all know that you can find the directions
that I posted at http://www.uvm.edu/~cmerlo/malibu.html. Also, if you're
going to the show, but not attending the Con, you can find directions
straight to the club at that URL also.

When DT go on their first tour, I don't think they should have t.v. screens
in the back because Queensryche already did that. They should have their own
thing, you know, Metallica had that weird stage, Aerosmith has that guy with
the lips, Poison had that hot chick on guitar(i'm kidding! C.C. DeVille
rules!)So heres my idea for DT: Live Donkeys! On Stage! Lots of them! Think
of the possibilities!

for all who are Interested,
I heard a bit of alex lifeson's new song on the radio...
unfortunately, I only started paying attention to it near the end...
and the only reason it caught my Attention *at all*
was because I suddenly noticed it wasn't in straight 4/4;
that is, for the main part,
it pretty much blended in with all the Alternative Garbage
that usually spews forth from this station
but hopefully this impression is merely the result of
having heard this song out of the corner of my ear...

Oh man, what goes on while I am away for a short time... .
Personally, I am glad I have been away with all the debates - heck, these
aren't even debates, they're arguments - going on about religion and such.
I think it's a waste of time to try and argue religion to someone who
doesn't believe. They're not going to listen. Me, I am a Christian, some
would even say evangelical, but I do NOT believe in shoving things down
people's throats. I have friends who are both believers and
atheists/agnostics/whatever. I don't shove anything down ANYBODY'S throat.
I have had to deal with some of this from well-meaning, but overly forceful
Christians before, and I don't want to turn anybody away by just frustrating
and making them hostile. Be a friend. Aren't we supposed to love one
another? Think about it. On the other hand, I am willing to die to prove
my God exists. Are you willing to die to prove He doesn't? What does all
this have to do with Dream Theater? Nothing really, so let's end the
arguments here and find some sort of common ground (that being DT). Keep
the arguments between those who want to argue, and not here (yeah, I know I
can skip past these messages, but why bother when I shouldn't have to?).
Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry for rambling on. Later. God bless.

Thanks for including that "corrections" loop hole. I think I could mean:
1. spiritual change
2. political change
3. personal change
