Okay, I'm stumped. What exactly is the neo-classical section of the original
ACOS??? I wish I knew that terminology, but I'm unfamiliar with that stuff.
Anyway, my point is, could someone go to their Subconscious and let me (us)
know exactly where this starts and ends so I can revel in its greatness with
all of you? I truly am curious, but it's a long song and it's got a TON of
great parts in it!!!

I think that DT did a good thing when they took the neo-classical
part out of ACOS. True it is cool and everything, but it just SCREAMS
Yngwie! Don't get me wrong, I like Yngwie. I just think that the way
ACOS sounds now SCREAMS DT! The classical part is so generic sounding.
DT's new version of ACOS is a much better reflection of their musical
personality, even though the neo-classical part is definitely a facet of
their own musical influences.

Yeah, I can't believe how awesome that is. People have said it sounds very Yngwie-ish, but I'd take that 5 minutes over anything Yngwie's done any day, it's far better composed. My biggest disappointment is that they seem to be able to write great neo-classical stuff like this, but for some reason don't want to use it, and lean more towards jazzy stuff... oh, I also miss the heavy non-accoustic intro, the part where it's just the guitar before the drums kick in is cool... maybe I just want to have my cake and eat it too though. They should've just thrown everything in there and made it 30 minutes long. I don't think anyone could complain about that.
I agree with whoever said that the new ACOS works just as well without it, it does, but I think it would've been just as good with the old part. It flowed well (I don't think you can compare it to the instrumental break in Metropolis, everything just flows naturally from the beginning of the guitar solo all the way through). My theories as to why they replaced it are (a) it sounded maybe a little too WDADU-ish, or (b) it didn't sound as good when recorded in the studio or something.
If you look at the stuff in the first instrumental section though, it's far more chops-heavy than that neo-classical section, and doesn't flow as well IMO (but that part still kicks ass too), so I can't really see that as being the main reason for it being taken out.

Yeah, that too. TDOE, eh? I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it. I went back and listened to the end of LTL again (since TDOE seems to be the most popular boot anyway), and sure enough ... "HOOOOLY FUCKING SHIT!" - I think that sums it up pretty nicely. :) Mind you, I think that comment was made about the entire show, and not the ending of LTL.
Anyway, when I heard LTL on that boot, it was amazing how much different it sounds live (and not just the ending). There was a lot that got kinda muddled on the album that you can hear live. If only James' voice wasn't shit on that boot.

DT were in Europe in March and April, I seem to recall... 2) What is the bit after "Only a Matter of Time" called? It seems to be some kind of jam but the bootleg list/FAQ doesn't mention it. 3) The bootleg list also mentions "Under a Glass Moon" and "March of the Tyrants" as being extra produced or something. Is "March of the Tyrants" perhaps the bit after OaMoT?

Regarding that harsh ACOS review: I don't get too pissed when I read that stuff. Basically I love the blistering guitar solos, long songs, instrumental portions, etc, but a lot of people don't. I think we're a lot luckier because we get so much enjoyment out of music. A lot of people don't even realize what songs are playing when they're in a bar or driving in their cars. Some people don't like James' voice and I can understand it if they're into the rough-edged deeper voices. Sure James does it on Awake, but it's not the same as some of the stuff out there.
I find DT similar to engineering. You like what you do, nobody knows what it is, but you get personal satisfaction from doing it. Whenever someone notices it, it's so they can criticize (buildings falling down, etc).

I think it's a great idea. Imitation is the highest form of flatery. Plus, if you're really crazy about a band, and can play an instrument, it's a great feeling to play those tunes. And you can play the ones you want to. Like those Rush tribute bands. They play stuff that Rush doesn't anymore. If there's a DT tribute band, I'd hope for a lot of stuff from WDADU because DT doesn't do that stuff now. There isn't any reason to feel that these bands are rip-off bands. They are a cover band, plain and simple. It's just that they only do covers by one band. It's not like they're gonna be making too much (if any) money from covering their favorite band.

I only have one thing to say about this. Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, let it be true! I love WDADU and I would love to have a new version of it. It would be weird though with a new vocalist and a new keyboardist. I'm sure that some stuff would be rearranged too. I also tend to doubt that it will happen but we can hope :).
