    Jason,

Saw your post in Ytsejam 718. Am seeking "Mission Impossible", a 2 CD live DT
show in Japan (Osaka I believe). Just returned from there and spent what
little free time I had looking for it. No luck.

Any info on this one would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Hey Ytsejam DRUMMERS:

I just bought the "Burning for Buddy: A Tribute to The Music of Buddy
Rich." I absolutely think that every drummer should take a listen to it.

The entire album is produced by Neil Peart, in association with the Rich
family. Drummers on the disc include: Kenny Aronoff, Bill Bruford, Bill
Cobham, Steve Ferrone, Steve Gadd, Omar Hakim, Manu Katche & Mino Cinelu,
Joe Morello, Rod Morgenstein (yeah, THAT one), Neil Peart, Simon Phillips,
Max Roach, Ed Shaughnessy, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Steve Smith, Matt Sorum,
    and Dave Weckl.

The disc has 18 tracks on it...all songs with very strong drums; some songs
even have solos. Great! Every player sounds very strong...Even Matt
Sorum, who is restrained to pussy banging in 4/4 time for G N R sounds
excellent. A must buy for all drummers!

    Feel free to Email me.

    Take care,

    Erik

Hmmm, interesting interpretation, but to what statue of Oedipus
do you refer? When we first got the album, my friend was pretty
sure that the statue was of Michaelangelo's "Moses". He even
pulled out a picture of it (different angle) from his European
trip and he's sure that's it--- nearly identical.

I do agree that the line you quoted in the song is an Oedipal
reference, but I don't think the rest of the song supports the
mythological reference. How was Oedipus silent? Now if the
song was called "The Blind Man", then I might agree with you...,
no time to elaborate, gotta go--- let's discuss TSM meaning further...

    Dear jammers,

Hey, what's up? If you check out the next Musician magazine, I'm not too
sure if it's out yet, there is a feature on John Petrucci and his studio
    equipment at his home.

Also, if you look in the latest Guitar for the Practicing Musician, you can
order a DT laminated backstage pass, an 8X10 DT promo picture, 'The Mirror'
and 'Photo Images' Dream Theater T-shirts, and a woven patch of the burning
heart from Rockabilia. Check it out!

I would like to pose a question as well:

What are we accomplishing by posting all our favorite little musicians
in the "dream band" deal? And in a newsletter that's SUPPOSED to
contain discussions on the band, Dream Theater?

I know there are many out there who will agree: I have gained absolutely
NOTHING from reading these dream band lists. Honestly, who really
cares what some-person-you-don't-even-know's impression is of their
ultimate collection of totally unrelated musicians who will never play in
    a band together anyway?

Those who agree, post something and let's put and end to this and
move on to some more worthwhile, INTELLIGENT and...oh, I don't
know.....maybe DREAM THEATER RELATED discussion. Thanks!

This won't work--there are many prog rock fans who don't believe that
Dream Theater are prog rock (they're prog metal). Since prog fest is
    for prog rock...

Of course it's conceivable, but I just don't think it would be a good

Hi, here are my dream/nightmare bands

DREAM BAND ---------- 1st vox....Chris Cornell (Soundgarden) 2nd vox.....Felix Pappalardi (Mountain) lead gtr.....Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) rhythm gtr....John Petrucci lap steel gtr..David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) hammond.........Jon Lord (Deep Purple) other keys.......Jens Johansson bass..............John Myung drums..............Neil Peart

They would just do a 1 hour 30 min jam/medley of:

Burn (Deep Purple) including 5 min funk jam after the hammond-solo A Change Of Season (w/ Ritchie doing his classic solo-spot in the middle) 2112 (in F# instead of A with Jens going completely crazy on the keys) w/ the Pink Floyd songs Echoes and the last part of A Saucerful Of Secrets (the voices-part) as the finale.

encores: Fell On Black Days (just Cornell-Gilmour-Lord-Myung-Peart) by Soundgarden + Rainbow Eyes (Rainbow) together with symphony orchestra conducted by Michael Kamen.

NIGHTMARE BAND -------------- vocals - Shane MacGowan (the Pogues) co rhythm guitar - Ritchie Blackmore + Yngwie Malmsteen only improvised lead guitar - Kirk Hammet keys - Chick Corea (with red banana-synth) or maybe the guy from Ace Of Base bass - the Def Leppard dude drums - Abbadon (Venom)

Note how great that band would work together, Ritchie must be the best rhythm guitarist ever (he loves doing it!) and Yngwie is no picnic either. Kirk shows his beatuful vibrato and his excellent (NOT!!!) improvising-skills, hitting ONE note that is a correct one. Imagine Chick strutting around with his red synthesizer (but he'll be drowned in the mix so that he will just look lost and silly) on his stomach while Shane MacGowan is puking all over the people in the first few rows. In the background the Def Leppard dude goes bom-bom-bom-bom... and Abbadon misses every beat, polyrythmic indeed!!!

They would play Cage from VROOOM by King Crimson + Light Fuse and Get Away!

If that band's too horrible there are plenty of others out there: Nelson, Pretty Boy Floyd, Blind Melon, Suede etc

    /Mats

Hello again, all! In Ytsejam 732, I read two posts that piqued my interest. One was from Jarrod Kamsey-Lewis regarding symbols on the I&W cover. The other was from Brian Wherry regarding "Scarred." Let me begin by saying, "Brian, I have. It is undoubtedly my favorite song of theirs to play along with!" And to Jarrod, "Uh...I have no idea. I seriously doubt that all the songs on the album are symbolized on the cover."

I say this because the songs on I&W are less similar, less related-together than those of Awake - there are fewer running themes, so a cover containing symbols that overlap with the songs themselves, album themes, etc. would be difficult. Not to say there aren't symbols for a few songs, such as (as Jarrod said) the sparrow or the moon. I just think that putting all of the songs from that album on the cover would be tough, and I don't think that is what they did.

Now, the burning question: there are two songs on I&W that I just DON'T understand...Metropolis and Under A Glass Moon. Does anyone know what either of these songs are about? I have an inkling of what Metropolis may be about, but UAGM completely mystifies me.

On the subject of DT covers, as has been mentioned here many, many times, it occured to me that an "impromptu" cover band would be somewhat interesting...what do I mean by this? Ex: John Doe is a drummer, and has learned Take The Time to a tee. Billy Bill is a guitarist, and has learned the guitar for Take The Time note-for-note. Considering the overall tightness of DT material, if each member of a DT cover band knew their parts well enough on their own, a "practice" session could almost be skipped! It cracks me up picturing five musicians getting up on a stage, and going, "Okay, howabout Innocence Faded?" and all five of them just rip into it! Just a thought... And yes, eventually I will post my dream and nightmare bands!

I thank you all once again for your patience and time.

Here is my vote for a mostly female nightmare band, and not just because these people are bad, cause some of them are actually good, just they wouldn't work well together.

Ld Vocals: Doro Pesch Bk Vocals: En Vogue Guitar: Guy from Green Day Bass: Woman from Heart (I think it was a female who did the bass) Cello: Yo Yo Ma (for a little variety and class) Keyboards: Teach Cyndi Lauper how to play...

Lyrics and Music: John Deacon and Roger Taylor (no offense, but listen to Misfire and Don't Lose Your Head, and you will totally understand.)

You're right- I also have gained absolutely nothing by reading these posts. In fact, I don't read them, I pass over them. It's actually quite easy.

You can, if you wish, send the payment in now, and it will mean you getting the CD earlier than anyone who waited and sent payment later. That is to say, I'll send out the CDs when I get 'em, in the order I had gotten the payments. But since that could be a 4 week wait, I am perfectly cool if you want to wait and send payment later. Understand what I mean? You _can_ but don't _have_ to send payment now... I don't want to seem like a pressure salesman. :)

What the hell is wrong with you people in Australia? About a week and a half ago I offered to dub these for ppl in Australia and evan New Zealand (although I think there actually *is* someone over there) Needless to say, I have had NO replies. I have taped 2 copies for my friends, but that's it!

You've got some explaining to do folks!

It's not like it's gonna cost you much - five bucks tops...

Hey Adam S. - have you had any luck there in W.A.?

    A very disturbed Evan.
