YES!! I would like to do this too!!
But there is the big question left where we should do it
and who wants to organize it??
AND NOT TO FORGET: ARE WE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO HAVE AN EUROPEAN CON??
I actually don't know how many europeans are here on this list.
Can someone give me any info about this??

    Bye.

(First off, non-Japanese Ytsejammer, sorry for long post)
Kevin Moore "Music Meant Be Heard":
Hello, I'm Kaoru (female, 20-year)living in Tokyo. I'm opening the Kevin
Moore demo dub site for Japanese/Asian Ytsejammer. If you live in Japan,
Korea, China, and other Asian countries and interested in Kev's demo, e-mail
me! I'll mail you how to get the tape from me. (blank tape + postage or
something)I'm translating the lyrics, and I'll send with the tape. :)
These days I'm so busy and it's difficult to send them very soon, so
please be paitiant (I need around 10 days...) !
Thank you, Jennifer and Kevin! You did very great work for us!! :)

     (For Japanese 'Jammer)
     Mike Bahr's CD:
I suppose you saw the Mike's post on digest 738. I think it costs so much
for sending packege from US to Japan, and also from Japan to US. So let's do
group ordering! It's a *great* chance to hear DT rare tune (Most of them are
not avaibal in Japan. ;) )!! E-mail me if you are interested in.
Thanks Mike for this cool work, and keeping some low # for us! :)
Well, I took 10 orders for this moment. ;) When is the ordering limit?

     Ytse Convention:
How about the Ytse-convention in Japan? :) I would like to meet other
Japanese DT fans who also read Ytsejam over the wall of language. ;)
Please mail me with your idea. (Now I'm too busy to arrange it, though)

Hello everyone, it's Babs. I need to set everything straight on this
convention business. First of all, I appreciate the person who sent the
post to the list sticking up for me, but I feel that it was a bit harsh.
Everybody has a right to an opinion and the guy from Texas (I think that he
was at Texas A & M) was just voicing his opinion. When I started this
convention I wanted to meet the people who I have been writing to. Dream
Theater just happened to be an extra thing (I'm not making light of them).
The thought of combining everyone in the United States was overwhelming,
so I decided to go regional. What my main goal is to eventually have
everyone have their regions of ytsejam members and eventually combining all
of them together, I doubt that it would be this year, but maybe by next year.
I think that it's wonderful that ytse's in Arizona want to get together.
What I plan on doing is speaking further with DT's management and telling
them about what the rest of this list has planned. When I spoke with them
a week ago they found it to be a worthwhile venture and good promotion for
the band. So it seems to me that they are just as much interested in
Arizona conventions as well as Long Island. They did tell me last week that
their major concern is getting Dream Theater back on tour in the US. The
big decision is whether to let them do big arenas or to keep them on smaller
venues, this decision lies with their booking agents as well. So there
is no guarantee that DT will even be at the Long Island convention, if
they are touring someplace else - they can't be in two places at once.
OK, I'M THROUGH. HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET BACK ON FOCUS. ANYBODY HAVE ANY
    GOOD GOSSIP? -BABS

Anyone out there, besides me, find Echolyn to be one boring
mess? I'll start out by saying that I am in no way a
musician of any sort so I can't comment on their expertise
in playing. I just find there music to be so mellow, so
bland. With all the DT and FW stuff I've ever first gotten
my hands on I've been able to listen to it repeatadly
for hours on end. With this Echolyn, I can only take it
in small doses. There are no raging guitar solos and the
keyboards are there but the music just doesn't move me. At all.
I don't even care what their lyrics are and that is a bad
sign for me. I'd advise listening to this stuff before
purchasing it. I think the singer(s) have great voices and
musically they 'sound' good, but you definately have to be
in the right mood to listen to these guys. I'd say I could
listen to about 1/2 the album - thank God for the program
    button on my CD deck.

Anyway, quickly, I find it hard to believe that Lie isn't higher
up on the survey/poll list. But then again, it is a Kevin Moore
song and I think that guy is a genius. I'd dedicate that song
    to my very ex-girlfriend.

Anyway, thanks for listening - give me input on Echolyn, ok?

    Hello,
I got "The Silent Man" US Promo CD a few weeks ago. The strange
thing is that I haven't heard the song on the radio yet. I admit that I
don't listen that often, but if it was being played at all, I think I
    would've heard it by now.
Has anybody else heard it on the radio lately? I don't have any Z-
Rock stations in my area, but I was wondering if Z-Rock was playing it yet.

    Thanks,
    James

            Concerning Echolyn's "As the World":

This will be short - basically, I see Echolyn as a
combination of King's X (Faith Love, etc), Kansas, Queen, and
            the YellowJackets (a jazz thing).....

Very kewl album, much softer than DT, with lots o' vocal
harmonies, intricate drums and time sigs, overall a really good
album, if you can enjoy softer, mellower music....

no DT content, but ill make up
                                            for it eventually,

I briefly would like to inform you all of some really great bands that I
have never seen mentioned on this list. The two bands and their two best
    discs are the following

                    Vicious Rumors-"Word of Mouth"

                    Tourniquet-"Vanishing Lessons"

IMHO these are some of the best bands next to Dream Theater. Both play
power/prog metal at it's finest. Both bands also have excellent vocals.

    Any comments?

To whomever aked about live "Surrounded":

Yes, John *does* use some heavy delay <probably from his t.c. electronics
multi fx> on the LatM version of Surrounded, but this is not present in the
studio version. Listen for it again during the guitar solo after the big "Let
the light surround you..." It is really evident when you use a vocal fader or
eliminator, as this causes those instruments which are center-panned in the
stereo image to be cancelled out; <using Dolby surround w/ the main channel
off is very similar to this effect; it all has to do w/ position in the stereo
path> but the effects, which are usually panned hard L and R will remain. This
would almost lead one to believe that JP was mixed in stereo live, and mono in
the studio, as unusual as this may seem. Actually, now that I think of it the
guitar was probably mixed in mono, but when the studio guys added the effects
they did so in stereo. I'm fairly sure DT mixes live shows in dual channel
    mono.

Oh, btw, my roommate is now the proud owner of both I&W and Awake. When I left
for Christmas break he had neither, but when I came back he had both. I've
been meaning to post that all semester, but I kept forgetting. Another
    convert!

    See Ya

    SUBCONSCIOUS CD Update!!

    1. Orders received

Here is a brief list of the orders that I have received, paid, and
the CD numbers you will all be getting... if you are on this list, I have
your order IN MY HAND and you are DONE, FINITO... all you need to do is kick
back, relax, toss back a Kypler's, and wait for my CDs to come in the mail
to me, and subsequently, to you. :)
I _am_ keeping a copy of this list, in case future authenticity issues
arise, you can be assured of the full _value_ of your Subconscious CD. Given
the number of DT albums sold total, there is one Subconscious CD for every
11,700 Dream Theater fans. Not a bad ratio eh!!
A quick note: you will notice I have set aside a few low numbers for
Kaoru, and I have done this because most of the Japanese Ytsejammers will be
doing a group order through her, and I wanted to get *some* of the low #'s
to the land of the Rising Sun, tis only fair after all. :) That's the only
orders that are not yet paid, because she still has to get the orders from
the others. Any Nihon-go Ytsejam members, email Kaoru-san if you want to get
a copy of the CD! If more are reserved than space I set aside, I will fill
another block of numbers somewhere in the 100's.
Quick note!! If you "reserved" a copy with me, but have not yet sent
in payment, you won't be in this list yet... DON'T PANIC! I've still got your
reservation, and I _did_ say that because of the delay in the CDs getting to
me in shipment (my blanks) that you could wait on payment if you wanted to.

    2. Discs still available

At this time I still have 47 copies unreserved, due to cancellations,
nonreservations, changes, and the clerical error I made back in my earlier
post to the 'Jam. Anyone who wants me to hold one for them, mail me here at
garion@indirect.com, and then you can send in your order whenever you are
    ready to do so.

    3. Discs REMASTERED, final tracklisting

The CD pressing plant I got all my materials from previewed my current
master, and decided it just wouldn't do. Without charging me a penny more for
another glass master, they agreed to take on the job of fully digitally
remastering the disc! They gave me a great rate on the studio time too.

So now it's done! The disc has been totally redone in Dolby Digital
Surround Sound, compatible with any CD player but MUCH MUCH better than
before, and compatible with Pro-Logic systems for full instrument separation
on most tracks. It is also compliant with THX for all except the two covers
gig tracks and The Gorilla Session, or so say the engineers.

Every track stands out so much better, Eve and Change of Seasons are
_better than they were on TDOE_, and songs that I was hoping would sound
better, such as Don't Look Past Me and Mission Impossible, now have nary a
fuzz or distortion spot. It's so clean, it's the way CD was meant to be. I
was confident before that this disc would satisfy the DT collector that _had_
to have it all... now I am confident that if you like DT at all and are
familiar with the usual sound of their older boots.. it will BLOW YOU AWAY. :)

The tracks that were the worst originally; Wanted Dead Or Alive,
Tears, Winter, and The Gorilla Session, were improved tremendously. WDOA is
now on par with the best, Tears and Winter are downright tolerable (if you'd
only heard the HISS...) and Gorilla... well... we tried. :) It's okay, for a
recording that was horribly done to begin with.

            Here's the still-final tracklist:

            1. Eve (live w/samples)
            2. A Change of Season (live)
            3. O Holy Night
            4. Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight
            5. Don't Look Past Me
            6. Wanted Dead or Alive
            7. To Live Forever (acoustic version)
            8. The Gorilla Session
            9. Mission: Impossible

UK definitely rip. Their first record w/Bruford & HOLDSWORTH is a
classic. After the first record, though, Bruford & Holdsworth were out,
Terry Bozzio (Zapppa, Vai) came in, and the band became a threesome.
Danger Money is a bit better than the debut, but w/o Holdsworth awesome
soloing. The live record Night After Night also contains some songs not
on either of the other two albums.

Rumor: I heard that UK may be reforming in some capacity!!!!!

Well, after two people mentioned that Greg Lake played with
Asia on "Alpha" I felt obliged to check my CDs to see if I was
misremembering things. The CD claims that it's John Wetton who played
and sang on "Alpha" (and "Asia") and it definitely sounds like his
voice to me. :) Greg Lake may have played on "Astra" -- I don't have
that one. Is anyone looking to sell their "Astra" CD? I haven't been
    able to find it.
I haven't been able to get into the newer Asia very much -- I
mainly love "Asia" and "Alpha"... I do like the live album though.

DT Content: I agree with William Wright. I feel that giving
Myung a bass sound more along the lines of Squire (or Steve Harris or
Geddy Lee, etc) where you can audibly hear all of the incredible
things he's doing would be cool. I think that it could pretty easily
fit in with the DT style and it could add a new place for melody and
counterpoint. Of course, maybe Myung and DT don't want that sound...
It probably would require a slight rethinking of their style, I
    suppose.

Hi all! This is Mike, just helping Kaoru out with some details: There is NO limit to how many total CDs the Japanese Ytsejammers can all group-order, as I have set aside numbers for a total of 30 CDs. If I only get 23 orders, then that is fine, I will simply give the other numbers to other CD buyers. If you need more, there are still a few available (not yet reserved)!! So order whatever number of discs you _want_... and that will be just fine with me! :)

Those of you in the whole Japan/Taiwan/Korea/China area, email to Kaoru and you can get in on the deal with a low CD number, for as many discs as you want. Both Kaoru and I are saving so much postage money doing it this way, that I am ignoring the limit of ordering.

    Take care all!

I just find there music to be so mellow, so > bland. With all the DT and FW stuff I've ever first gotten

Not bland...! Let me start out by saying I've never listened to the CD... but I am sure I have many like it. In fact, any CD that isn't metal or at least hard rock, you'd consiter mellow, right?

You see, all you heavy metal people out there must learn to appricate music that does have the metal guitar all the way up in the mix! You must first get the notion out of your minds that nonheavy music = bad (or wimpy, as one Echolyn detractor put it.) You guys are looking for something that isn't there, and isn't supposed to be there.

So what you must do is take your nonmetal CD (whatever that may be, Echolyn, Megellan, Yes, etc.) and start playing it. Then you must pick out some passages that sound semi-heavy. Those passages are cool aren't they? Now you must pick out passages that you think are cool even though they aren't heavy. Those are cool too right? Well, not listen to the music and DON'T think about non-heavy it is. Think how pretty it is, or think about how fast their playing. Or think about the authors were thinking about when they made the song. Or think about the chords going on the background. Just QUIT listening for a heavy guitar jamming away. With some music, that isn't going to happen. For instance, if you are listening to a Kansas CD, listen to the violin part, and then think about what a guitar would sound like in its place. Or think about how cool their time changes are. And when and if a guitar comes in, rellish the moment. But don't forget to rellish the moment when the violin is playing too. Both instruments create a sound, different of course, but they are just a sound. Who is to say which is better?

And so ignor what this person said... don't listen to it first. Buy it, and play it, and then play it again, and play it some more. And get the thought out of your mind that the CD isn't metal. Then learn how cool CDs can be even though they aren't metal.

    > Anyway, quickly, I find it hard to believe that Lie isn't higher > up on the survey/poll list. But then again, it is a Kevin Moore

Because some people like metal, but more people on this list like progressive music. :)

Okay, someone mentioned Ryche's "Promised Land" as indicative of what DT's bass sound could be like.

Well, the thing is, from what I've heard of PL, I don't really like it. =)

Plus, Eddie Jackson's not nearly as busy as Myung, and he plays with a pick. This adds scads of clarity, and a nice clicking sound. =)

Some producers have bassists play with picks that are comprised of a hard felt-like material. It's a pick, with less attack.

Anyway, I hope I don't have to clutter up YJ with more posts about this. =)

    off to record, blech. -hairball

Hi all, Just got back from break and saw the message from SCOTT. I figured that I should tell you that SCOTT just got out of an insane asylum. And while he was there, they played Rush 24 hours a day. So you can obviously see where he's coming from. (Although for some people that wouldn't be all that bad) JUST KIDDING!! He's just new at this and is a little opinionated on some groups. That's all. (You see, I've been friends with SCOTT since 3rd grade, we even saw DT a couple summers ago together) ((HI SCOTT)) Anyways, I really enjoy hearing about everyones meetings with the guys from DT, and also concert reviews. So keep 'em coming! Oh yeah, I think everyone should kneel down, face upstate NY, and give a big bow of thanks to Babs for her wonderful efforts . . . and while your at it, turn and face Arizona, and give a bow to Mike Bahr too. I think it's great that we have these two on this list, and that they're going to all this trouble for us. (F*ck yeah Mike) Thanks!!!
