I'd speed up the entire catalog to blipvert
proportions and let them slow it down from
the 45-sec compressed version when they get back home.
If they can travel the galaxy, certainly
    slowing down a soundbyte shouldn't be a problem ;)

    Hello, all.

I think this was posted a loooong time ago, but I'll say it again <if only to
start another argument!> I hear the "Callow and vain..." part of IF in the
infamous Erotomania. It's before the "Silent Man" part. Incedentally,
in between the "Silent Man" part and this "IF" part, I can distinctly hear the
progression to the chorus of Another Day.

"What is he, on crack?!?!?!?!?!" That's what they'll say...

It would be great if you could maybe just go in a store and ask or look
if some kind of carrying on the belt-case for my MD walkman MZ-E2 does
    exist.

If you would be so kind, please mail me for further details. Important
for me as i cant get this part over sony germany, they dont even know

Wow... That's what went thgough my mind when I heard the disc. I finally got my copy today in the mail, and ran back to the dorm to listen to it (ditching my girlfriend in the process - but she understands). Mike, you have outdone yourself. This is so GREAT!!!! I personally love the "Mystery Track" - wht the hell is that, and where did you get it from?? As to the the rest of it - I love 'em all, but I have one comment: It's about "Winter". I am a vocalist myself, and listening to this, I would be willing to stake a large part of college tuition on the fact that James is not singing in falsetto the whole song, as some have said. Sure, he does it almost exclusively in head voice, but there is a line or two that sounds like he's hitting it in chest voice... just my opinion, mind you. And I only listened to it one time so far. So one last round of applause to Mike, and a pat on the back over the internet! Thanks for making this worthwhile, and keep us updated on future projects... Au Revoir, Andy

I read a lot about demo's and bootlegs on the digest. For example Steve Borzilleri wrote some things about ACOS. Can anyone help me to get copies of this stuff. I have some stuff over other bands in return.

Hopefully someone is willing to help me. It's, somehow, hard to find this sort of things on this side of the Atlantic. Here only the official releases are available, including Majesty and another old instrumental demo released on CD.

It will be in fact the third time this year that they'll visit Holland. You have forgotten about the extra concert in Nijmegen a couple of weeks after the Utrecht gigs. That one was also sold out in less than one day.

They're really popular around these parts. It's a bit of a shame for the old fans, because that means they can't play in small venues like Vredenburg anymore but have to move on to concert halls like Ahoy. I'd rather go small clubs where I can stand right in front of the stage like in Vredenburg than get a lousy seat for Ahoy close to the roof of the hall where the band has shrunk down to the size of ants.

Mike boy. The reason not a lot is said about Myung is because nobody here will dare desecrating his highness name.

No, seriously: we're talking here of a bass god which personally had influence me in a great deal - he virtually mastered every technique the bass offers from tapping (wild part on PMU,I&W) to his main FingerStyle technique, and to harmonics (overtones), (too bad he left the slapping out the door - although I'm sure he's better then me, you and ClayPool together). His perseption on the bass may be traditional but he still breaks the boundaries on every record. We can go a whole day counting the amazing lines and licks he pulls - he got a trick/gag/idea of his own on every DT song. I actually like to find the more hidden stuff - like in Take The Time (this song deserves a full name and not just intials) before Labrie sais "I won't waste another breath" there is a couple of seconds where John just go completely wild with a fantastic Pentatonic scale which is hidden within a wall of sound, although it rules the feel of that short part.

John is a king no doubt, and that's the way bass players should be... (see Geddy Lee for instance).

Thanks for the kind words! The mystery track is just that, a mystery. The first person who can tell me EXACTLY where it's from, gets a complimentary copy of Cygnus when it's released. (I love throwing cool, off-subject contests and fun stuff in! Makes getting the CD that much more fun!) One Jammer is real close already, but not quite!

DAMN I'm glad people are liking this. I had to listen to it so many times in the making of it that I got tired of it, and began to fear that others would not find it as appealing as I originally thought. I'm sure glad _that_ fear is off my chest! :)

Dunno if it's released or not, but it's likely from our very own Brian Cox's DAT recording! And what a fine recording it was!

    Grin.

Those of you who have waited, it will finally be worthwhile, a friend and I just got done working 14 straight hours (we both had a concurrent day off, and for once, I had enough supplies and stamps) and we CAUGHT UP to current Subconscious orders! That;s right, if your CD number is 335 or lower, it's now speeding its way to you courtesy of our very own Postal Service. :)

I feel so relieved now, I'm gonna go soak in the pool. :)

I pity the poor slug, and I'm a kindred spirit with the people he's ripped off. I was one of the last to actually *get* something from him, and it was two months late. I'm lucky to have received it at all!

    SUBCONSCIOUS CD Update!!

    Current update: 5/4/95

Due to a cancellation, there are some copies still available! Go ahead and send orders in... CHECK THE NEW ADDRESS LISTED BELOW. If you wish, email me at garion@indirect.com to make sure I have a copy to save for you.

Keep an eye on the Ytsejam as people are posting reviews of Subconscious right and left. So far, nobody wants to kill me. For this I'm relieved. :)

THE BLANKS ARE HERE! THE SHIPMENTS ARE HAPPENING! :) I'm currently _caught up_ with shipments, which is about 335 at current. I am trying to stay with less than a week lagtime with new orders. I am also finally sending out all the freebies! (to all five of you who did me a favor of some sort).

By the way, THANKS to all of you who have sent "Dream Theater Bits" and extra postage, and other gifts of goodwill, I really am enjoying them! The DT-related stuff (newspaper clippings, computer art, concert ad copies, etc) are a real treat to check out. All my friends are enjoying it! I really would like to thank you.

    1. Orders received 2. A quick review: what the hell IS Subconscious, and how can I get it? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

    1. Orders received

Here is a brief list of the orders that I have received, paid, and the CD numbers you will all be getting... if you are on this list, I have your order IN MY HAND and you are DONE, FINITO... all you need to do is kick back, relax, toss back a Kypler's, and wait for my CDs to come in the mail to me, and subsequently, to you. :) Chances are you have it already. I _am_ keeping a copy of this list, in case future authenticity issues arise, you can be assured of the full _value_ of your Subconscious CD. Given the number of DT albums sold total, there is one Subconscious CD for every 11,700 Dream Theater fans. Not a bad ratio eh!! Every copy is numbered and initialed in gold to make it very hard to counterfeit.

Note: the Japan order is in the mail from Kaoru to me and I am waiting for it. I will send out ALL of the Nihon-jin-Ytsejammer CDs at the same time. :)

If I messed up, TELL ME! I've proven to be far from perfect with these orders...

Also, I just bought a new desk to keep all this stuff in order with, so a few envelopes might have slipped in between the cracks. If you sent your order a decent long time ago and it hasn't shown up, tell me. I'll either be able to solve the puzzle or I'll join you in befuddlement. :)

    2. What the hell IS Subconscious, and how can I get it?!?

Subconscious is a CD, a project I undertook simply because I thought maybe it should be done. It's totally privately financed, and I think with the number of reservations that have been made, I will come out of it with my head above water, for which I owe the trustworthy members of Ytsejam a bow of gratitude. :)

As pertains to legality... I admit I'm skating the line here. I hope (and so far) DT will be overlooking it. I'm only making enough to cover cost and pay myself roughly minimum wage. Since certain "permanent" costs (hard drive, etc) were covered the first time around, any other CDs I offer will be slightly less expensive. Basically, I'm not making a killing doing this, and it's taking an awful lot of time to get done, so I hope any of you who don't think too highly of me, will find it in your hearts to give me the benefit of the doubt this time. Friends? :) . I sincerely thank all of you Jammers who have had nothing but kind words for my efforts. And yes, the members of Dream Theater are all going to receive complimentary copies. Let nobody say I'm a tightwad. :)

What happened was, I felt it was time to release some of Dream Theater's rarer songs on CD, and thus I sought good copies from everywhere, including some that came from sources connected directly to the band! Thus, I think I can safely say that these are the best copies you can find outside of those in Portnoy's vault at home. (God, I'd love to peruse HIS tape collection... we might find DT covering "Blazing Saddles" or something)

I bought a CD burner and rented equipment from a CD pressing plant nearby, so I could produce the discs. They will have printing on them and a liner cover. I had to order blanks and jewelcases in lots of 500 or more, though, and thus the risk was made: I emptied my bank account and placed the order. Fortunately, it seems I will make up the difference with CD sales.

The blanks made it and I'm underway filling the orders. The price is $25.00 US per disc. It was originally going to be $27.50, but the CD place had a good price on blanks. Its true, as one Jammer pointed out, that I could have kept the higher price and said nothing about the blanks being cheaper than before... and nobody would have known. I did it in hopes of furthering the fans-for-fans attitude that has (thankfully) already spread throughout the net, and to make sure this project is seen as distinct from those of the high-and-mighty quality-none big boot CD pressers.

The CD pressing plant I got all my materials from previewed my current master, and decided it just wouldn't do. Without charging me a penny more for another glass master, they agreed to take on the job of fully digitally remastering the disc! They gave me a great rate on the studio time too.

So now it's done! The disc has been totally redone in Dolby Digital Surround Sound, compatible with any CD player but MUCH MUCH better than before, and compatible with Pro-Logic systems for full instrument separation on most tracks. The remastering involved a thorough noise cleanup and proper re-phasing of the instruments for center/left/right/surround.

Things have, thankfully, been cleaned up as best they could be in the process, and I guess based on the early commentary on the CD by people on the Jam who have already received theirs, it seems that the quality is satisfying to the Dream Theater Fanatic. :)

    Here's the still-final tracklist:

    1. Eve (live w/samples) (instrumental) 2. A Change of Season (live, JL on vocals) 3. O Holy Night (CD on vocals) 4. Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight (CD on vocals) 5. Don't Look Past Me (Jon Hendricks on vocals) 6. Wanted Dead or Alive (Rich Kern on the so-called vocals) 7. To Live Forever (acoustic version) (JL on vocals) 8. The Gorilla Session (Petrucci) 9. Mission: Impossible (Instrumental) 10. The Back Pain Jam (RPM Warehouse) (Instrumental) 11. Awake Heavy Jam (Instrumental) 12. Experimental (Petrucci) 13. Tears (JL on vocals) 14. Winter (JL on vocals)

In some cases, the rawness of the original recording will be evident, but at least you know you're hearing it the best way it can possibly be reproduced. Subconscious is _the_ DT event of early 1995! :) Or at least, it will be until DT's EP comes out... and I'll gladly yield the title if it does. I love their music.

Here's how to order: (or how to pay for your reserved discs)

    1. Please use a money order. It's simply the best way, and they cost twenty to forty cents. Make it out to me for $25.00 per disc that you want (limit 5 to a person) and I am paying the shipping cost. Each CD will be mailed in a padded mailer so it won't get damaged. Please make out the money order to me, Michael Bahr, not to Feel The Rush or anything like that, since this is really just my own personal endeavor.

I accepted checks for the Rush Video Montage, but a few bounced, and I was left holding the bag. I've put too much money into this, and can't afford to be stuck with bad checks, even though I trust 99% of you Ytsejam members. Plus, best of all, a money order can be traced by you, traced by me, and you know for a _fact_ that you will either get a CD, a refund, or I will get thrown in the slammer! :)

    2. International customers, I know international money orders are expensive. If there is another way you wish to pay (wire, transfer, or other) let me know and if I can do it, we'll do it. So far just sending cash has been 100% successful, so I guess there's no real harm in it. If you choose to send cash, send it in a thick envelope so it is less risky. For orders of more than one disc, it is economical and safe to use a traveler's cheque.

    3. Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery. By now, you know why. :)

    4. I finagled myself a bigger mailbox at my apartment complex, so in order to keep the orders moving fast, send it to me at the new address. It is:

Michael Bahr 3175 N. Price Rd. #1066 Chandler, AZ 85224

That's my real address, not a PO Box... so don't worry, I'm not planning on fleeing the country any time soon.

If you happen to live in the Phoenix area feel free to call me at 602-777-0501. Besides all the CD stuff, I'm always up for lunch 'n' trading with local Jammers. I can't guarantee I'll be home very often to answer (always out buying supplies, or at work, or camping at the post office... grin) but if I'm there, we'll chat.

Actually, a few of you have called me long distance on this line from wherever you live. It's a real treat to talk with you, but just be careful of your phone bill, I do not want to cost anybody a lot of money. If you do call, try between 11am and 9pm Pacific time, since that gives you the best chance to catch me at home. I look forward to talking with any of you who care to call. I hope you don't mind my bastardized Arizona-Canadian-Southwestern-Pacific-New Yorker accent. (the product of mixed accents being prominent in my upbringing...) So far people get a real kick out of it. :)

    5. Send in your order: . Your NAME . The ADDRESS for me to SEND your CD(s) to . The NUMBER of CDs you're asking for . The money order, made out for $25, $50, $75, whatever . your EMAIL address, in case I need to contact you (emerg.)

    . (OPTIONAL) your home phone.

I won't require home phone because I want you to all feel safe that I am not selling mailing lists. :) If you _do_ include it, I will use it in case of emergency (maybe the mailman spills coffee on your order and I can't read your address or something).

    3. Original press masters...

The gold disc is sold. The glass master, I didn't get to keep. That was sort of a sore point for me, since I paid for it, but the plant says they just re-use them anyway. Ah well.

    4. Epilogue

I am at garion@indirect.com and will remain there until the end of time, so please mail me if you are confused, need information, are angry, sad, lonely, maybe even a little whimsical, and need to get in touch with me. Thank you ALL for showing such solidarity that a 21-year-old college student emptied his bank account to order tons of plastic! :) You are truly, one and all, ladies and gentlemen, the best fans Dream Theater could hope for.

    Take care of yourselves, everybody...

Rent the Ranma videos! They're cool! Look in the Japanese animation section.
