    Dear jammers,

I got the Awake tab book yesterday, I got so excited when I saw it in the store! For those of you in the Nassau County, Long Island area, I got it in the Music Maker at Broadway Mall. I realized that some of my transcriptions of the Silent Man was somewhat off. Otherwise, I transcribed the SM note for note.

    Yours, Jeff =)

I was just wondering about the sound quality on this cd. I saw this and was interested in purchasing it but wanted to know about the sound quality. I dont have skyway of nightmares by heard that it wasnt that great of a recording. I have AKIAD, DOE, and LOS all of which are decent quality and was wondering if you could comment as compared to those. Thanks.

I was the one who speculated that this quote was by a sportscaster. I'm pretty sure it's Gary Bender who works for TNT and also CBS. Any other sports fans agree. I think he is working the NBA playoffs on TNT, so maybe an A/B test will be possible. Also I think he does work for one of the LA teams, so maybe he was dispatched to the OJ thing for some local station, and this was picked up via satellite. I'm fairly certain it's him though... -greg

    Hi everyone.

I just found out that Headbangers Ball on MTV Europe now has an E-mail address. It's headbangers.ball@mtvne.com

I think a mail bombardment is in order to get them to show the full Ronnie Scotts concert.

    Take care,

ATTENTION, ATTENTION - WE ARE HAVING A CONVENTION ATTENTION, ATTENTION - WE ARE HAVING A CONVENTION ATTENTION, ATTENTION - WE ARE HAVING A CONVENTION

Yes everyone, it is true! Hello, it's BABS. I'm not sure if my post from last week got out or what. Here's the scoop:

The YTSE Convention will take place on Saturday, June 3, at 6:00 (PM) at the Smithtown, Long Island Sheraton.

I have spoken with DT's Management and they have guaranteed Mike Portnoy's attendance! They are currently working on getting more members to attend. PLEASE LEAVE YOUR INSTRUMENTS AT HOME! SORRY! This is just a meet and greet type of thing, very casual. Autographs will be signed, I believe that cameras will be welcome (I will double-check that) and basically just to have a fun time.

I had to reserve a banquet room at the hotel and secure it will my credit card. What I will need from all of you is to collect $25 per person attending the banquet. The $25 will cover the cost of a bartender (cash bar), the room rental and the food. Now you all are probably wondering what are we having? I had to keep the cost down so I had to go the least expensive route. We are going to have the room set up lounge style with veggie platters and for the meal I went with what is known as the Sheraton Hero. It's supposed to be a gigantic hoagie (fully loaded) with the typical deli foods on the side. I had originally gone with a whole bunch of hot appetizers, but the price got way out of sight on it. So I had to go do it this way. I am going to call the hotel today and ask for some more vegetarian and kosher options as well.

As soon as I sign the contract for the guest rooms I will post a number for everyone to call who will be needing to stay overnight. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions that you have.

Here is my PO box for you to send a check to me:

Barbara Battaglia PO Box 402 Geneseo, NY 14454

This is just a flat fee of $25, that I need to collect from everyone.

For some reason, I am still convinced that this quote is coming from

Al Michaels, who did commentary during the OJ thing for ABC, along with Peter Jennings I believe. The voice really sounds like him, and this has been mentioned before as well, but I still think its Al Michaels (for all you know you don't know, he's from Monday Night Football fame).

    Al Balkiewicz vocals, Half Naked

Here's the information I forgot to post about the Awake TAB book: ISBN #: 0-89724-608-X Warner Bros. Phone #: 1-800-327-7643 (ext.(?) or option 2) I believe option 2 is personal sales. Anyway, you can get either I&W or Awake TAB books for $24.95 plus s/h.

The time sigs I posted for Mirror were taken from the book which was edited by John Petrucci. I didn't mean to imply anyone was right or wrong; I didn't work it out. I just wanted to tell all of you what this book said. Just eighths and sixteenths according to the book. He does just play a straight rhythm, so it must be Mike who is causing the different time sigs (like the 12/8 part). Anyway, I'm sure there is more than one way to look at it or notate it. One thing I noticed on the Awake TAB book's transcription of SDV is that John used an EBow on some of the parts in SDV. I thought that was interesting. Looks like he really experimented with equipment on Awake.

Hairball, did I hear you say that King's X was dropped from their label?! What has happened to them, anybody?

Hey, whats up with the 'jam? I've gotten two "mini-jams" since Thursday, but thats all. Don' tell me that all the college students have gone home, and there so few others left that we don't have anything to talk about.

I finally got my copy of Subconcious, and was a little disappointed with it overall, but Eve, and ACOS are great! I think I may have had too high expectations about this disc, and was therefore a little let down when I finally got a hold of it. I don't have much experience with boots, so I was disappointed with the sound quality, but then again, what was I expecting (studio quailty work of course!). Also, I am a singer, so I tend to focus on the vocals and lyrics more than the instrumentals (although the chops these guys have isn't wasted on me, I do appreciate them!), and that probably contributes to it as well. At any rate, the disc is growing on me, and I enjoy it more each time I listen to it, so all is not lost.

Also, I just have to plug WDADU. I have been listening to this disc a lot lately and I really like it. It's just an all around great disc. I've even reached the point where I can appreciate Charlie D. and the work he did on this disc. ------------------------------------------------------------------ "...the voice of reason against the howling mob" "Nobodys Hero" - Rush Jamie Burks - jburks@pcs.mv.com ------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear jammers,

Man, the list has really calmed down since the college people left for home. To the person who is asking for the ytsejam transcription, I have something for it, but I've noticed that the solo that I transcribed is really different from what JP does. However, my transcription will sound the same and it is still hard to play, if you're really up for it. I'll see if I I have time to convert it to a computer file, after AP exams, finals, and incompleted projects. TTYL!
