Hello....
Just yet another link in the endless chain of Subconscious commentaries.
I have to say I'm impressed. Sound quality was good (Golden Slumbers/ Carry
that Weight sounds so much better than the copy I have), song selection was
good (a little too instrumental-heavy for my tastes, but that's just me),
some of it was hilarious (my sister: what's that woman in the background
screeching in Wanted: Dead or Alive?).
Allover, good job.
Did anyone else notice that the words "Dream Theater" do not appear anywhere
on the CD or case? Why is this?
No cheesy KTS-style liner notes, either, which was sort of a disappointment
(in a sick sort of way.) What could you write, anyway?
"Dream Theatre, a band out of Long Island, is the hottest live act of the
90s. They have been compared to the likes of Queensreich, Jane's Addiction,
and Mutallica."
(For those of you with no KTS or similar boots, they are notorious for
misspellings, comparing bands to completely unrealted other bands, and
making grandiose statements without having listened to the band ever.)
All in all I'm happy. Yet another thing to torment my family with this
summer!

Jammers,
It certainly has calmed down a bit. I too will be leaving soon, but
will be back in late June (hopefully, if my employer lets me).
I ran accross a bit of trivia that very remotely relates Savatage and
DT. Before Savatage the band was Avatar, but before that it was
Metropolis. Metropolis was the Oliva's High School band that just did
covers and stuff. Well, I thought that was interesting anyway.

Hey all,
This has very little DT content at all, except for the fact that
John Petrucci plays Ibanez guitars, but I just had to relate this killer
deal I got the other day.
I've been playing a Kramer (no flames please) ever since
jr. high school when I discovered Van Halen (1984), and I just haven't
ever had the cash to buy a better guitar (college student, 'nuff said?).
But I've been saving up to buy an Ibanez and move out of the early
eighties into the late eighties <g>. Anyhow, I was in a pawn shop the
other day, and I noticed an Ibanez RG560 (two single coil pickups and one
humbucker at the bridge all of which I'm going to replace with DiMarzio
pickups, and a killer Floyd Rose tremelo that they just don't put on
anymore unless it's a custom job) on the wall. The finish had a few
scratches, but not enough to justify the $200 price tag (this guitar
retails for about eight c's new). Well, to make a long story short, I
took the Kramer in as a trade in thinking that If I got $10 for it I was
getting a deal. they gave me a $125 trade on the Kramer, and the Ibanez
came with a sixty dollar gig-bag at no extra cost. Essentially, I got a
killer guitar for only $75 ($15 if you count the gig-bag). Is this a killer
deal or what?!? The pawn shop also had a Sabre and a Jem, but those were
quite a bit more.
When I plug this into my Zoom 9002 effects processor I have tone
from Hell! It's great!
What do you other jammers who are guitarists, guitar players, or
even guitar owners (I feel lucky if I fit into category 2) play?

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago about how all of the songs from the album are shown on the cover of Awake. Since I read that, I have had the feeling that the cloud above the statue's head was supposed to represent something. To me it kind of looks like a face, but until today I couldn't find any meaning to it. Then it struck me. The face seems to have a long nose. I think it might be a Pinocchio figure. Afterall, his nose grew everytime he told a *Lie*

Hello everyone, it's BABS. Wanted to let you know that a batch of name tags for the YTSE convention have been made. The tags will have the AWAKE cover on the front and the back will have the Majesty logo and burning heart with a special thanks section to DT and their Management. The tags will have the date and location of the convention on the front as well. These will be collector's items one day, please keep that in mind :)
A word from DT's Management on the tags:
"The tags must NEVER be sold."
I want everyone to understand and adhere to this policy. It was a difficult decision on their part to allow the tags to be made reproducing the AWAKE cover on it. I realize that for the most part everyone is in agreement (ytsejam) on how trading should be conducted. Has anyone ever noticed that the bald guy on Awake looks similar to the guy with hair on WDADU?
Anyway, a lot of people have been asking for TAB of DT. Well, I&W and Awake have been totally transcribed by Warner Bros. I know Jeff Chew and others have done some of WDADU. I've been working on some too, but does anyone know of a _really_ good tab writing program? I have Bucket for Windows, but the version I need is the one that cost money (gives time sigs, lyrics, and so on). I heard of another, long time ago, that was being beta tested. Any suggestions? I read Hairball's post in Digest 818 (sorry, I'm catching up) regarding running live sound and I had to laugh! I think it would be really cool to be DT's FOH but his complaints are so accurate. They reminded me of a sound joke I once heard: What's the difference between a sound engineer and a toilet? The toilet only has to take shit from one asshole at a time! Ha ha. Hello Everybody! Well, I've posted this before but it probably got lost in the great Internet maze... I've been asking myself - why is that that James Labrie Has almost no lyrics credit? Petrucci writes apperantly most of the stuff, but even J. Myung, M. Portnoy and Kevin Moore have lyrics credit! To me, it is only logical that a singer should to sing the stuff that resonates most to him, and not something that is very personal to his... guitar player! But don't get me wrong - I think Labrie is a great singer (although I'm a Cornell guy myself...). BTW, about the "dream sets" discussions - No DT show is complete without Take the Time and a Green Day Cover. See ya! Just got done catching up on a few 'jams, and I've got a couple questions..... 1) to MIke Bahr--what is the cygnus project and for WDAJU, are the songs all going to come from live shows, or has the band ever recorded any of the first album in studio? 2) in general--'bout a month ago, another 'jammer dubbed me some stuff, including a song he labeled "I am the sun", I'm not sure which boot this came from, but it contain the line "Don't look past me" several times...is this the song titled DLPE on subcon? Unfortunately, I don't have that disc to compare with :{ and a commment in response to the Charlie over-enunciation vs. James under-enunciation thread....in most cases I like James' voice/style better, but in the case of a song like "Only a Matter of Time", which is my favorite song (that has lyrics :}) from WDADU, the over-enunciated phrasing in the original works well, and I can't see a Labrie take on that song being superior to the original.................... partha

Hey, you know what I just noticed? Well, I found out a while ago through the DT faq that Ytse jam was Majesty backward. (I know, I'm was kinda slow on figuring that out..) But anyway, I was looking on the booklet that comes with the Images and Words CD and it says "Lyrics published by Ytse Jams and Octa music" or something like that. The point is, I looked at Octa backward and it spells ATCO!! Which was DT's old company, of course.. Just thought this would be cool to add to the DT knowledge vault.
See... you do find out something new about DT with each listen.
