Just a few notes on WDATU...

I got the remastered final DAT from the studio and it's soundin'
pretty good! You all won't be too disappointed with this one... it's been
cleaned up considerably. Also, it contains ALL of the things that were
debatable... and clocks in at 74:12.

So far, unless the sky falls, it will be out by 12/25 or earlier.
Everything is on schedule, it seems.

AD... all up to 350 are packed up to go, and there are about 50
packs sitting here to be mailed.

I guess that about covers it for today!

If I'm not mistaken, you take the phrase "ting-ti-ting ting-ti-ting",
make each "ting" a quarter note and each "ti-" an eighth note in the time
signature of 5/8, and you get both the intro to WFS and the climax of LTL.
A variation of this would be to make the first "ting" a quarter note and
latter "ting" a dotted quarter note in 6/8, which would give the second
phrase of this same melody. The whole melody is in 5+5+5+4.6+6+6+4 /8.
    Is this correct?

    Hi Everyone!
I read a few digests back, that someone complained about "people trying to
subscribe", that there's too much of 'em and all, so here I come!
As for 5 fave non Dream Theater bands:
    (1) Extreme
    (2) Queen - I only like the later stuff
    (3) King's X
    (4) Toto
    (5) Helmet - I don't know if anyone knows 'em
I play guitar, but I don't really have 5 fave guitarists, 'cause ever since I
first heard Dream Theater I somehow replaced 'em all with John.

To: Stefan T. Rau - Thank you for the distribution of "Perfect Strangers", it
was the first thing I wanted to ask for...
                      - Could you get me the words of anything else on ACOS ? I
just need them for perfect accuracy... (you don't need to
send it here, you can send it directly to me...)
                      Thanks if you can...

By the way, thank you all for filling my account with YtseJam digests on every
    long weekend!

    Greetings,

No. They played the Palace Theater on Vine. I know this because they
played there only one month before I moved out to LA for the semester, so
when I finally went to the Palace to see Extreme (with Tom who never
posts anything to the 'jam :) ) I just stood in the middle of the floor

I was just listening to Extreme's "Pornograffitti" (you gussed it,
Get The Funk Out) and I heard something really cool that I never
heard before. Check out the last chorus (from 3:40 to 4:20) and if
you listen carefully, the guys are singing other songs in the
background. It's really hard to hear. If you have a vocal fader on
your CD player, use it on this CD. Anyway, they start by singing
"Pornograffiti", then "Flesh and Blood", and finally "Decadence
Dance" It's one of the coolest things I've ever heard, and after
listening to this CD for 5 years, I finally picked up on it! Later,
    Adam

Ok. I think I'll try the little survey:

1: What was the first DT album i picked up/why?

I picked up "Awake", purely of the reputation. I had heard bits

    'jammers,

I managed to make a tape of Acoustic Dreams since I couldn't afford the CD.

    General comments:

    1. I agree, James shouldn't be singing during LIE
    2. I wish people wouldn't talk when DT's playing
    3. Bruce D. didn't come in on time when he sings "I know I must remain
inside this silent well of sorrow."
    4. The production of the first group of acoustic tunes is excellent.
    5. I'm not into the "cheesier" tunes ie. O Holy Night, U2, etc. Stick to
    the good stuff (:o
    6. Let the flames begin...

    1) I received a hardcopy of an update from Shadow Gallery and thought that I
would relay a few details. First, their original album (self titled) has just
been re-released in Japan and will be re-released here in the US in a month or
two. Additionally, they have contributed one song each to the following three
Magna Carta tribute albums: "Release, Release" for Yes, "Time" for the Floyd
and "Entangled" for Genesis (a personal favorite). The Yes tribute has
appearances by Steve Howe, Patrick Moraz and Steve Morse.

Am not in it financially, but FYI here is the address for Magna Carta records
where each of the above disks can supposedly be had for $15.98 (US only, I
    would have to assume):

        Magna Carta
        208 E. 51st Street #1820
        New York NY 10022

    2) The Scarred thing. I briefly saw a setlist for the Berklee show in 1994
and think that I remember seeing "Scarred" listed as a second encore. Could
this be true ?? I only glanced at this setlist for a brief moment but I am
fairly certain that I saw two encores listed. Does anyone have a copy of that
setlist ?? For what it matters, only one encore was played (Metropolis).

    3) Rather interesting to see what happens when Ytsejammers have a bit too
    much of that thar firewater..........

I noticed this while looking at the tape in the store. I don't get

fit it on there. Also, Innocence Faded is moved to Track #9.

    Salutations, Ytse-persons,
I have a nifty idea. I'm going to write some short stories. I will
put a song on repeat and see what kind of story comes to mind. I'll post 'em
on the Jam as (if?) I finish them. If someone else wants to do it, post
'em. I know I'd be interested in reading them. It would be kind of neat to
get a Jam full of short stories named after songs. :8^(0o0) <-----James Labrie

                                    The Silent Man

The shot rang loud in her ears. She let out a scream that was
muffled by the gunman's grip. The hands loosened and dropped. She gasped
for breath. She looked down at the attacker. He was lying on the ground,
dead, a neat hole in the center of his forehead. She looked around, mouth
agape. Movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention. She jogged
deeper into the darkness of the alley. She turned around in a circle,
looking for something, anything. She had to find out who saved her life. A
hand grabbed her arm. The grip was tight, yet somehow she knew it would do
no harm. She turned to face the owner of the hand. It was a nondescript
figure. Plain height, build and face. Nothing remarkable or out of the
    ordinary.
            "Who are you? Why-"
The man put his finger to his lips, in the universally known
"shooshing" gesture. She looked at him srangely. The man turned and walked
away. She started to say "Wait", but something she didn't know of stopped
her. She turned and went home.
That night in bed, she tried to review the events that taken place,
but it was somehow fuzzy. She shrugged all her thoughts away and drifted
into a deep sleep. The next morning she had no recollection of what had
    happened.

            Somewhere, the Silent Man smiled.

                                    Author's Note

            Hello, Jammers.
I followed up on my short story idea. This one came to me pretty
quickly. Lemme know if you think it sucks or is good, or something. This
kinda fits with the lyrics and the single cover. Maybe not what was
actually meant by John Petrucci, but it's what came to me while listening to
the song. Please reply and tell me what you think of it and/or what you
think it means if your interpretation is something different than what I
    meant by it. Thanks. Bye.

    Hi,
Could someone send the lyrics to "2112" (the album, not just the song)
? All it has in the cover foldout thingy is that cheesy picture of them in
their bathrobes. E-mail before you send it, so I don't get 3000 copies of
    the lyrics to "2112".

hello. i would like to send out a "prototype" wfs transcription. i am not
sure if that is viable. if you have a mac and/or have the encore
notation/sequencing program, it may be very viable. please email me
personally regarding this issue. thank you.

i was reflecting on the past few months on the jam, and i just realized that
in the 2-3 months i've been on here, i've discovered a LOT of stuff regarind
this band. of course, there has been a lot of needless talk about a variety
of dumb things, but reading some of the opinions of others, learning about
things such as ad, wdatu, and subconscious (looking for a subcon dub site in
the ny area), kevin moore demos, and even things like bafu vai's "ytse and
jam" (or "maj and esty" as i refer to them as) has been helpful (hey bafu-
thanks for jason fickett's address!! hahaha!!!). whatever.

Yes, YYZ's 5/4 section in the beginning is indeed morse code (not mainly
Neil's opening pattern; when the band cuts in). If you say these out loud,
you'll kind of hear/get a picture of the opening riff through "syllables."

["Longs and Shorts" are representing both the normal beeps of morse code
for Y's and Z's as well as the length of time for each riff/note]

Y = Long, short, Long, Long
Y = Long, short, Long, Long
Z = Long, Long, short, short

Say them in a full sentence in the normal 5/4 YYZ rhythm, and there you have it!
Sorry about the non-DT info. Later.....

    Jason

I hope you aren't talking about "ting-ti-ding" Pianos don't make
that sound. But if you are talking about this:

    > dee
    >da
    > da da-da
    > da (to be read from left to right)
    > da
    > da dum-dum

Then you're still wrong. Height equals pitch. Look at Mark
Contrady's post. He got it right on the button. Seeya in IRC.

    Hey guys!

THANK YOU to Jason Giles!! I got my Ytsejam t-shirt today and was
very impressed with the quick service and the quality of the shirt! It's
    great.

To Trey Allen, THANK YOU for the Subconcious dub. It's quite cool.

Just a reminder: I have a *very* limited number of ACOS promo flats
left for trade. Contact me if interested.

Also, anyone interested in the extremely rare tape I obtained
featuring Weezer's Rivers Cuomo's old prog rock/metal band, Avant Garde,
should contact me. This guy used to play double leads with some other guy
like Friedman/Becker. It's MUCH different than Weezer. You won't believe
it's the same guy, but it is. Later guys!!
