I would, but all the Americans probably wouldn't understand me. I had to speak in a pseudo-

No, this message isn't about the band Yes. I just thought I'd
    like everyone to know that

I FINALLY GOT ACOUSTIC FUCKIN' DREAMS

It's #229, for those of you who haven't gotten theirs yet. Mike Bahr, you
really came through, man. For a while, I had my doubts but this thing
completely blows me away!!!! I don't know who you had to blow to get
this, but I'm sure glad you did :) Let's get on with the review.

THE COVER- Very professional. George Fan is the man.

THE LINER NOTES- I am very, very confused by these. Maybe once
everyone's got their copies, you can publicly explain their meanings.

ANOTHER DAY- Oh my god! Dare I say it...this blows the original
out of the water! Sure, James sounds pretty different on it. But there is
sooo much more emotion on this version. Probably one of my favorite
tracks on the album. I'm suprised how delicately they handled this song.

LSOAD- One thing that strikes me about this version is the
sometimes spanish sounding guitar work. James is back to his normal clean
voice on this and it all sounds amazing. I like how the chorus gradually
builds up every time, but differently than on the album. O.K., that
didn't make too much sense, but I'm in a state of euphoria here. However,
I do think I like the album version better because of the drums. But this
is another one of my favorite tracks on the album. The song lends itself
very well to this kind of treatment.

WFS- Amazingly accurate bass/guitar take on the piano version.
Sure, the high strings at the start are annoying. But I've gotten used to
it. Not too much different than the album version, aside from the whole
missing piano part. I think I like the version of this song on DOE or
Lost In the Sky better, but this is definitely a highlight as well.

TSM- As stated by others, not too much different than the album
version. John P. doesn't sound half bad doing the back-ups. In fact, he
sounds pretty damn good. Too bad I couldn't really hear him at the
Berklee show. I like the addition of the bongos during the guitar solo.

Long Island Expressway- This is one groovy tune. Too bad James
couldn't make up some lyrics to it instead of just "Whoa"ing all the
time. There seems to be a little bit of...hold your breath...Phish in
there. I hate Phish, but DT does it well. Too bad it was so short. I
would suggest using this to show your friends that DT really can jam.

O Holy Night- If anything could make me religious, it's this song
(just kidding). But seriously, this a great version of the timeless
Christmas song. James really shows off his range in this one. Sometimes
it gets a little overbearing, but he pulls it back just in time. I wish
those fuckin' carolers in my neighborhood would sound this good.

Perfect Strangers- Prehaps I'm a bit biased since the version on
ACoS is the only way I know the song, but I miss James on this. The band
sounds tight as always, possibly even a bit heavier than on ACoS. Bruce
Dickinson sounds good on it, but I wish they had traded off verses or
    something.

6:00- Got to honest, I don't really care for this version. I miss
the samples and the drum fill intro. The song as a whole is way too fast
for my taste. Different keyboard solo. I like that aspect of it. Nice to
say that I have it, but not one that I will fast-forward to.

CIAW- Not too different than the album version. The band gets a
little groovier in the middle and Mike P. adds some different fills. Cool
mix, but I like the album version better.

VOICES- I swear to God, those people in the background are
driving me up the fucking wall!! Where do they think they are, a
Superbowl party? As far as the song goes, it's way too short, but I'm
glad they chose that section to perform. Still very cool though.

BAD- Having never heard the song before, I don't really have a
basis to judge DT's version on expect to say that it absoluetly rocks.
Some of U2's more computerized stuff pisses me off, but this is the kind
of U2 that I like. James covers Bono like nobody else. I was bobbing my
head to this one in no time and it is easily one of my favorites on the
album. Thank God those fuckers in the audience shut up for this (at least
somewhat). I hope they play this live if/when I see them.

Finally, the production on this disc is excellent. It kicks the
shit out of WDADU. At least you can hear everybody on this. Crystal-clear
sound quality. Mike, my boy, you are a genius. This will not leave my CD
    player until Christmas.

                                            Thankfully,
                                            Richie

That's right. I heard that they based that pattern on something they overheard on a radio scanner. Now who knows the significance of those letters being repeated over and over? :)

I really like it except for one thing: James' singing. Normally I love the way that he sings, but on AD he sounds too whimpy. He doesn't seem to put his heart into it. Is this me? Don't come and try to hunt me down for this, I just felt like it had to be said. James IS one of my favorite singers too.

You're one of the most arrogant fuckers I've seen on this list since I joined in March of '94. As for Ytse & Jam, maybe if you'd been around longer than the few weeks which you obviously have, you might get a few of the jokes contained in that story. Bafu Vai has hit upon almost every argument the Ytsejams have engaged in since I've been here.

Let's see, you don't get any of the jokes because you're new, not to mention the fact that you're new AND you're telling everyone how to run this mailing list... But Bafu Vai is the fucking idiot. Yes, makes perfect sense to me.

    > Well, farewell and lets keep this thing to DT info.

Good idea, jerkoff. Howabout adding some? Or do you even know who DT is? Last I saw you were posting about Alice In Chains' new album. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alice In Chains isn't Dream Theater.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd say we've found ourselves a new Fucking Idiot.

Here, maybe you'll understand this story a little easier than Ytse & Jam:

So, all guitarists!!!! Give me a Email at:

In post #1109, Andrew Stiles stated the Scarred isn't on the cassette. I only have one question, what's a cassette? I have lot's of music on cd's, but I don't buy anything on pre-recorded cassettes. The sound quality is CRAP at best and they wear out too quickly to appreciate the intricacies of the songs on them. Don't get me wrong, if you can't afford the cd or a good cd player, then by all means, buy the cassette. Just don't complain when you don't get all the songs that come on the disc. Talk to you soon, George.

    Greetings!

I know that this isn't anything to do with Dream Theater, but I'm desperately in need of some information from any European, Asian, or Australian Ytsejammers out there.

A friend of mine is in a band called The Fergie Fredrickson group, with Fergie Fredrickson (formerly of Toto), and due to unfortunate politics in the music business, the band isn't able to get it's own CD!

    The CD is titled:

    Fredrickson/Phillips

Fergie Fredrickson is formerly a vocalist with Toto, and Rickie Phillips is formerly of The Babys and Bad English.

If anyone could help out with this getting a CD, or give me some info on where to find one, we would all be eternally in your debt!

    Thanks in advance,

    M. Martin

I got up early this morning, specially to watch The Big Breakfast on Channel 4.

The reason? Special guest was Ozzy Osbourne, and his whole damn family (including the dog)!!!

Damn, that guy is so cool! It was the most entertaining thing I've seen on TV for a LONG time!!

He even made some very wistful comments about how all the good people get shot (John Lennon, Yitchak Rabin, etc), and how sad it was.

Only 9 days till his concert. I'm excited! :-)

****DT CONTENT STARTS AT = LINE. SKIP TO IT IF YOU WANT.****

I don't know about the rest of you, but, aren't we all just a bit sick of things like this:

    >>I think a new thread should be started on how to get rid of the fucking >>idiots who post stupid things like the dialouges between ytse and jam, >>recipes, NIN shit, and Blind Melon bashing.

You know, this ALMOST inspired me to post another 2,000 word essay on recording/engineering-related stuff. But, I will restrain myself. Ooh, that reminds me: I have email to send to one Andrew Keegan. Totally forgot. But, I digress...

    >> Well, farewell and lets keep this thing to DT info.

Why is it that we always come back to this? Ugh. Does anyone have my last outpouring on this matter saved? I should start saving things I send to the 'Jam...LIKE those HUGE essays.

I can't remember how long I've been on this jam, but, it seems to me that I've posted more non-DT related stuff than I have DT stuff - I think people who have BEEN HERE A WHILE (Remember the Layer Cake Explanation of Sound, anyone?) will attest to that.

I'm just curious, Dave, does that make me a "fucking idiot?"

Bandersnatch (shaggy@wam.umd.edu) said: >Good idea, jerkoff. Howabout adding some?

An excellent suggestion. As stated before, I LOVE people who post to the 'Jam, bitching about the lack of DT content. There seems to be a flawed logic in that, don't you think? It's just MORE NDTC, isn't it?

Bandersnatch again: >Last I saw you were posting about Alice In Chains' new album. >Correct me if I'm wrong, but Alice In Chains isn't Dream Theater.

I think you are correct. Dave would have been much better off posting the following, more truthful statement:

" Hi, My Name Is Dave. I think a new thread should be started on how to get rid of the fucking idiots who post things that I don't find interesting.Things that *I* post ARE interesting to me, and I think you should all cater to my personal tastes, needs, and preferences, because I'm so cool."

And, having said that, I also believe Dave should go start DAVEJAM.

=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=* DT CONTENT=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= (the preceeding line was provided for you anal-retentive types.)

Anyway, as you may or may not have seen, someone posted about hearing TTT as background music during a traffic report on a local Philly/Trenton area radio station, and that I was responsible for that, etc.

WELL, I've done it again, sort of. I was recently ordered to produce some "Sweepers" (you know, those little things that have noises in them, and tell you the station call letters, frequency, and maybe the DJ's name? I know most of you don't listen to the radio, but perhaps you've heard of these things? You are aware that there is an invention called radio, and on it they...<G>...sorry, pulp fiction reference) for the "Friday Retro Lunch."

I tried before to put a piece of ACoS into a sweeper - the first huge frenzied pryotechnics display that you come to. It was promptly rejected. Undalted, I tried again. This time I took a small snippet of the drum & piano solo break (I don't have a timer on my CD player, people, sorry I can't be more specific) put it in there, and it got on! Whoo-hoo! =)

Okay - perhaps sandwiching DT into the retro lunch (pun intended, but regretted) sweeper, where they play some pretty lame '80's tunes isn't the best presentation plan. However, I think my whole intent with this is to give the DT fans in the area a little kick, giggle, or "what the hell was that thing" response. It's fun. Anyone heard this yet?

I'm just wondering how long it'll be 'till someone realizes that I've used things from the new Anthrax CD (which is really good, even without Dan Spitz. Nice & Thick!), sounds from "Train Of Consequences" by Megadeth, and "19" by Bad 4 Good - remember them, anyone?

..OH MY GOD! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!? I MUST BE A...A...A... **FUCKING IDIOT!**

WHOA! I DRIFTED TOPICS! HOLY SHIT! PLEASE DAVE, DON'T HURT ME!

AND, FOR GOD'S SAKE, EVERYONE - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T RESPOND TO ANYTHING FROM THIS MESSAGE ABOUT ANTHRAX OR BAD 4 GOOD...OR THE RADIO! DAVE MIGHT GET MAD! OOOOH!

(Sorry about the language. I like cursing. A lot. It's fun.)

-Hairball, hoping my point has been made.
