    -- [ From: Dan Carlisle * EMC.Ver #2.5.02 ] --

    Hi all !

Well I've finally arrived home from my trip to Japan. WOW, the show on the
    28th
at the NHK Hall in Shibuya was fantastic ! The band was really tight. Best
    show
I've heard and/or seen in a long time, no exaggerations ! Positively an
    inspired
performance by every member of the band. I almost fell over when they
    started
playing "Heart of the Sunrise". ACOS was brilliant. James was perfect all
    night.
I spoke to Mike P. the next day at his hotel ( while dropping off copies of
    the Jam ! )
and he agreed that the band was really in sync that night. He said he spied
    me
by my YTSE Jam shirt ( BIG thanks Jason G. ). I though he was pulling my
    chain
but he told me exactly where I was sitting ! ( I was 6th row center )
    Unfortunately
I could tell where he was looking cause they had him backlit most of the
    night.
Can't wait to see them again in NJ.

Thanks a whole bunch to Takumi, Atsushi, Karou, Okuda-san, and the
    numerous
Japanese Jammers I met at both shows for making me feel welcome. You guys
    and
gals are great ! This was my best trip to Japan by far. Big thanks to the
    guy who sold
me the ticket for the 28th. Sorry your wife had to work, but I'm real glad
    I got the
chance to go. If I had only been able to see the 30th show, I think I'd
    have been
disappointed. The band was good that night, but either the acoustics of the
    hall were
really bad, or the sound guy had the mix all wrong !! Everything got lost
    in the low end.
They finally got the sound sort of worked out about halfway through the show
    , except the drum
mikes kept falling off. Lost alot of the tom fills and left hand cymbals.
    The acoustic encore
was well done. Mike P. kept trying to entice Derek out to center stage to
    play with them,
    but he seemed reluctant ( ?? )

I saw that Karou has already posted the set list from the Osaka and NHK
    shows.
The Kokaido Hall show setlist will follow as soon as I re-listen to the
    bootleg I
made of the 30th show and write it all down. I'm still trying to adjust to
    US time
and haven't done much except sleep lately. As i mentioned before, I booted
    the
show on the 30th, and another guy did the show on the 28th. The quality of
    the
30th boot isn't real good. Plenty of low end, but still listenable. I'm
    waiting for
my copy of the 28th which I expect to arrive soon. So .. anybody want to
    trade?
Email me directly if you're interested.

Is there a get together planned for the Birch Hill show yet ? I got tickets
    # 41 and # 42.
Has anyone else recieved them yet ? Who's going so far. I think Trey said
    he was
going, and some of the FL jammers mentioned coming up. Lets plan something.

    Dan ................. no - sig :)

Yes, John Petrucci is human. So are all the musicians we seem to like on
    this list.

Unless my imagination is really active, Kevin Moore goofs a few notes in
the intro to ACOS from tDoE/Subconscious.

Also from tDoE, Petrucci hits a blatantly incorrect note in the intro to PMU.
You can even hear the crowd pick up on it.

At the Alan White clinic, he said that "Tales of Topographic Oceans" was
only performed perfectly on one occasion, in Cincinatti. One member or
another made trivial goofs at every show except one.

Walsh's voice is very rough, but I don't much care. The playing is
incredible. The solo/instrumental at the very end of PoKR is really
great. The arrangement of "Mysteries and Mayhem" makes it into a fun
metal song. You get "Down the Road" and "Lonely Street" and both
are a lot of fun live. I recommended this to someone who said they
were surprised they liked Kansas because they aren't heavy. Live at
the Whiskey provides a lot heavier music than Kansas usually does.

    > >Truly, if you like Monolith, you'll like all of their stuff.
    >
    > I have to agree. Although Monolith, IMO, is a phenomenal record,

I like Monolith a whole lot myself. "Angels have Fallen" and "How My
Soul Cries For You" are great songs. This album, however, contains a
lot of the musical sounds and "nuggets" that fill all the other
albums. If you like "On The Other Side" and "A Glimpse of Home",
you're probably going to appreciate their more progressive/classical
songs. If you like "People of the South Wind" and "Away From You",
then you'll probably like their more "pop" stuff. If you like "How
My Soul |Cries Out For You" and "Stay Out Of Trouble" then you'll
probably like their more bluesy/hard rock sounds. And "Angels Have
Fallen" and "Reason To Be" show their more melodic side. All these
styles are what make up the basic Kansas "Repetoire", with a few
exceptions here and there. Kansas fans are bound to object to this
oversimplification of Kansas' music - please understand this is
geared to those who are ignorant, and need a handle on their music
when all they have is Monolith to go on.

    > > _Freaks of Nature_. Anyone who likes DT should LOVE this album!!
    >
    > Why? I like only one of the songs on it, and Walsh's voice continues to
    > sound worse. Sigh...enough Walsh bashing for one day. =)

He can't sing loud and high anymore, but he really hits some tough
stuff right on, like in "Under The Knife", and "Peaceful and Warm".
But I'll agree - DT lovers will not necessarily like this album.
Kansas is NOT heavy enough for many of the people on this list. The
song Freaks of Nature is about the only song on the album that DT
fans could like AS DT FANS.

BTW, I recently purchased Fates Warning "No Exit". My first Fates
album, based on recommendations of this list. So tell me, did I get
a bad one or what - IT SUCKS! Pretty unimaginative hacking, if you
    ask me.

DT Content - I've begun compiling the survey answers, and results
will be posted to the list in a few days.

"To Live Forever" on it. I think it's on the "Lie" single, and that's the
song I'm really interested in. If anyone has an extra copy of this single

Oh yeah... those 4+ minutes of jazz fusion was surely made for commercial

What makes you think I'm not already tired of killing thousands of household pets? And even if I weren't, why would I need to enter this contest to do all that stuff? And why would I need a car to do it?

In fact, why would I need a CAR?! Are you implying that all men do is drive cars and stuff?! I AM OFFENDED!!

What the fuck is that supposed to mean?! If you don't have anything to say, keep your damn mouth shut and stay off the list! What a waste of bandwidth! I AM OFFENDED!!

I am a superior, raceless being. I am 6'9", and I hate short people. You offend me by even posting this fact about yourself, even though you have no control over it. I have an eight-year degree in Frozen Doorknob Licking. Your ignorance offends me. I hate Sade and Sting. Jazz is worthless. Your musical taste pisses me off. My parents were killed by an avalanche of speeding tickets years ago, and you have brought up a very touchy subject with me, you bastard! Furthermore, when they went to Heaven, they were only given left wings, so your right-wing comment pisses me off even more!

Abortion is the greatest invention since sandpaper! I like the Washington Redskins, so I HATE the Dallas Cowboys!! You use turn signals? Don't you know they pollute the environment, you enemy of the Earth?! I HATE turn signals! Fuck you and your turn signals and your fast driving! I don't even OWN a car! I'm AFRAID of them!! I hate ALL the lanes on the highways!! Paved roads SUCK!! Steamrollers are the vehicles of SATAN!!! I'm not even from a country on this planet, so your Irishness poses a threat to my existence!! And I got news for you, buddy, I AM Big Brother!! ME!! AND I'M A PASSIVE MOTHERFUCKER WHO STANDS FOR NOTHING AS WELL, SO WATCH YOUR DAMN MOUTH!!!

I know! What is it with these negative people? Why the heck would you waste all that space typing angry stuff? Depressed people have nothing better to do than spread their depression? :)

Seeing as how I have resigned from the Visual Music contests due to their lack of competition and incredible ease, I will approach this new thread with great drama. In fact, those Visual Music posts were so easy, I WAS OFFENDED!! Yes, that's the real reason I stopped answering them. They insulted my existence.

Hi folks, I know, I know...don't respond to polls on the list. Well, this is possibly the most interesting new thread I've seen in a long time! (even if it _doesn't_ really involve DT...:) Anyway, the question goes: name as many bands as you can that have A) had at least five releases (thankfully, EPs count), B) are still currently together, and C) have had the same members on all their releases. That's fuckin' hard!! A quick scan of my music collection (not all of which I have at school with me) found TWO: Primus and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Now, I don't know everything about every band that I like, so there could be others (and I also didn't go through everything), but the fact that so most of them were discluded I found really interesting. For example, DT doesn't qualify because of Charlie and Kevin, Faith No More doesn't qualify because of Chuck (the original singer) and Dean (the new guitarist), Metallica doesn't qualify because of Cliff, GWAR doesn't qualify because they have a new bassist, Ministry doesn't qualify because there are a LOT of people involved and not everyone is there all the time...the list goes on and on. I'm sorry if I bored everyone with all this, but DAMN, it's an interesting little trivia tidbit! :) I'll let y'all know if I find more bands that qualify...

How many Mexicans does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Five: One to screw in the lightbulb and four to hold the radio. :)

Why were there only 2000 Mexicans at the Alamo? Because they only had one car. :)

Any whiners who take offense at these harmless jokes, contact me (the evil bigot) personally; don't clutter the list, huh? (I'm a pretty devout Catholic and I thought that Jesus joke was hilarious!!)

    I second the motion.

Wait a minute, didn't Clinton pass a new set of term-laws last year? Let's see, I think I have a copy here somewhere... Yes, here it is... Okay, Congress... House of Representatives... No, wrong section... AHA! God! Let's see...single term...all-encompassing powers of national, state, local, universal government...cannot be impeached? Whoah, that puts a damper on it right there. Wait, here's what I'm looking for...term limitations! Yes indeed......WHAT?! ETERNITY??!

That's just great. How convenient. Now I'll NEVER get to be God. Man, that would have been fun, too.

Oh well, Mike. Get back to me when time ends.

    RACHEL GOLDENBERG,

What the hell posessed you to come up with those idiotic lyrics.

You're the YTSEJAM, you SUBSCRIBER. Get a life BOOTLEG. Stop wasting my

    time with your bullshit letters.

(Rachel, if you haven't been here for at least two months, you might think I'm actually yelling at you. I'm not. I laughed at your lyrics.)

Of course. He misses notes all the time, like when birds fly north for the winter and sunlight feels cold and pink elephants stampede around playing Louis Armstrong through their trunks.
