That would be me who said that :)
Not to start a flame war or anything here, but would you go to an
orchestra and start moshing to the music? No? Why not, you paid to get in,
you pay their salary? You wouldn't because (aside from the fact that it's
not "appropriate") the musicians wouldn't appreciate it very much, would
    they?

As a DT fan I am surprised that more of you do not like moshing. Whats
the whole point of seeing a band if you aren't going to do anything but
sit there and watch? You might as well have bought their video. Thats
what thrash music is all about, moshing and headbanging. Sure not all DT
songs can be moshed to but a lot of parts of them can. I just joined this
thing a week ago and am very disappointed so far because I haven't seen
anybody that likes anything heavier than Metallica (and their fucking
sold out). If any of you go to the New Jersey concert you can't expect my
size 15 shoe going down your throat and out your ass and an elbow from my
girlfriend (any DT girls here that mosh?). Also anyone who gets injured
while moshing is either: a) a pussy b) a wimp c) a girl (girls are
excused). I am always in the dead center of a mosh pit and have never
received a bruise in my career. See you guys in Jersey.

Paul (sorry, dunno last name) was wrong about at least one of the females
who contributed to Mike's survey. Just because one doesn't post often
    doesn't mean they don't care :)

For those of you who are into Christian metal/rock, you may want to check
out a band called Reflescent Tide. They're from Wisconsin and were signed
to Rugged Records earlier this year. The best description I could give you
is a happy medium between progressive metal and alternative. They have a
CD out but I don't know if it's in stores (self-titled.)

BTW, Helloween's "Keeper of the Seven Keys" Parts one and two are not
concept albums. Only the songs "Halloween" and "Keeper..." are remotely
    conceptual.

Also, only the song "2112" is conceptual, not the entire album. I think
Fates Warning's "The Spectre Within" and "Awaken the Guardian" should be on
the list. Why were they overlooked, considering the number of Fates fans
    on this mailing list?

    Hello jammers,
I just thought I would post since I haven't yet, I have a few things
to say, and whoever wrote in saying that I should get off my ass and write
in was right. I just don't believe in clogging up the jam with stupid shit
and personal business that a lot of other people do. That is why I don't
read them all. If they were all filled with important information as opposed
to debates over religion and race, I might read them all Not to mention that
I have very little time in the day. I tend to just read the most recent one
in when I open my mail.
Anyway, Since people have been talking about introducing jammers to
cool bands- I would suggest checking out Into Another who just recently got
signed to Hollywood Records. Their new album is called Seemless, but if you
can get their last album Ignaurus, I would recommend it. Also, whoever it
was that wrote in saying that Al DiMeola and Michael Hedges are cool, has
his shit together. Anyway, gotta split.

PS- If anyone knows if there are tickets available for the Birch Hill show,
please e-mail me personally to let me know.

    ---What is YtseCon II?

I am organizing a YtseConvention II to take place before one of the shows
that are being held this Dec. A while back, Babs did this with the
pre-release of ACOS. If I remember correctly, (I wasn't there) JMyung,
Dereck, and Mike P attended along w/ many jammers. The, at that time,
unrealesed ACOS was played as a sneak preview. This version had the
infamous "mercy fuck" in it BTW.
I hope to do this also. It all depends on the managment and if the band
wants to do it. I am fairly opptimistic though since it went over well last
time + they say that thier latest album almost came out because us! So come
    on!!!
Anyway, this will be open to only jammers and their friends and will
hopefully be a chance for us all to actually *meet* each other and at least
    some of the band!

I want to do this when as many people as possible can attend. Therefore, I
need to know which shows your going to and if you have any freinds DEFINATLY
    going.

I NEED EVERYONE TO MAIL ME WHICH SHOWS THEY ARE GOING TO ATTEND AND IF THEY
HAVE ANY FREINDS WHO ARE DEFINATLY, AND I MEAN DEFINATLY, GOING AND WHICH
NIGHT WOULD BE THEIR PERSONAL PREFERENCE FOR THE YTSECON.

I personally think that the 28th would be the best night to have it since
New York is the most centrally and timely located but this depends on DT's
availiablity and the number of jammers who are attending the other shows also.

IF YOU ARE NOT ON THIS LIST AND SHOULD BE, E-MAIL ME VERY SOON!

I was thinking the other day while listening to other groups, and thinking,
"Wouldn't it be cool if DT busted into this song in a concert?"

    So how about:
Larks' Tongues in Aspic, part I
            The Ivory Gate of Dreams
            Spain (by Return to Forever)
            Inca Roads
            Something For Nothing
On Reflection (have to teach all the members to sing, first)
            Nothing At All
            The Mission
We Were Born to Be Loved
            Astronomy Domine
            The Gates of Delirium

Wouldn't it be cool? Too bad I couldn't afford to see it.

I'd say it's worth it. The video is from the back of the club, but it has
a clean view of the band. The best thing about this show is that they do
a (mainly guitar) instrumental that was only done at a few of the '93
winter shows. It's one of my favorite DT instrumentals, it's kinda mellow
with a very melodic guitar line.

    Anyone else like this one?

I mean, one of the first >songs, "Jesus Saves" is basically about a guy named DT Jesus selling drugs to >people, thereby "Saving" them from their realities. But look at the damn title >of the song! Obviously we have some parallel meanings going on here! > >Anyway, looking at the rest of the album, I have a sneaking suspicion that >they are indeed a Christian Rock-band. They're just kind of subtle about it >and maybe deliver their message under the guise of a "traditional" prog-metal >band. (Whatever THAT means. =) > >Are these Christian overtones present in Dead Winter Dead?

IMO, if that's what the song is about, and that's what it's called, then it sounds like they're trying to say that Jesus is a lie that saves people from reality. FYI, that is NOT what I believe, that is what I think it means. No religious lectures, please. :-) And, no. There is no mention of Jesus Christ in DWD. It's about Sarajevo. Super-emotional. Higher than ACoS level. (IMO)

    >Moshers probably make up 1% of DT fans. You people are a very small >minority, accept it.(another example of _your_ logic) >

First off, I am for moshing and I have no logic whatsoever. None at all. Nada. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Second off, of all the posts I've seen on this subject, there have been equal numbers of those opposed to and those for moshing. You must be one of the 1% of DT fans that aren't too hot in the area of counting.

    >Umm...guessing here. Hetfield, Ulrich, Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney? >(or something like that).

    BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!

    Wrong again.

    >In ytsejam1139, Ben Laussade asks: >>>Who were the four original members of Metallica? >If you mean from Kill 'Em All, then it's Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammet, and Cliff >Burton. But have a compilation LP from 1982 called "Metal Massacre" that has >Metallica doing "Hit the Lights." The line up is: >James Hetfield - Vocals >Dave Mustaine - Guitar >Ron McGouney - Bass >Lars Ulrich - Drums >Lloyd Grant - Guitar

NOW I get what Adam Cook was trying to say. But it's still wrong. I'm not talking about the members on the first thing that they released. Just the first members. The first FOUR members. There was a time where they had Lloyd Grant, but no Dave Mustaine.

You forgot to add "IMO" to the above statement, you're being very general in your assumptions.

Wow - you sound like you would be fun to be around at a high-enegy concert, that is if you want to be with someone who wants to be the center of attraction and a source of senseless body spasms. Are you a career mosher? What is the starting salary, is there room for advancement? Gee, I wish I could be like you when I go up.

I know there are some other Def Leppard fans on the list (and I'm glad to find out I'm not the only DT fan who likes them ... I'm not so much into them anymore, but they were one of the first bands I listened to when I was younger), although I don't know if anyone actually gets Much Music. Anyway, Def Leppard will be doing an Intimite & Interactive on MM this Wednesday. I believe it's on at 9pm EST (not positive about the time though).

Amen! (oh no, now I've started another religious debate :p). I haven't responded to any polls, mainly because I don't see what purpose or point they serve, but two of my all time favorite songs are Light Fuse and Get Away, and Only a Matter of Time.

LFaGA is such a stark portrayal of that one woman in every man's past that not only stabbed him in the back, but twisted the knife several revolutions and poured five pounds of salt on the wound (all metaphorically speaking of course 8^). It is obvious that Mr. Moore had a very unhappy ending to a relationship at some point in his life.

By contrast, OaMoT is about the most spiritual song I think DT has ever done, even more so than Surrounded. It's basically a long series of metaphors about trusting in your faith no matter what. I don't want to spend a bunch of time pouring over the lyrics, but there are lots of images this song portrays:

+ Someone being offered a "can't lose" deal, yet knowing that there's no quick and easy way to their destination. + A dream-stricken musician playing his instrument on a stool, imagining that the wall clock is an audience (I love this passage). + A mariner either returning to, or leaving from, land (I can't decide which) with the apprehension of finally reaching his destination. + A father's benediction as his son goes out to face his challenges at sea. + A captain at sea searching for any sight of land, as the crew grows more and more restless, until the only thing driving him on is his faith, despite the fact that the crew has given up and is considering mutiny.

Then at the end, you realize that these are metaphors to varying degrees of the same thing, which is summed up in the last couple of passages (some of which I've been noticing popping up in peoples' .sigs).

"Even when plans fall to pieces I can still find the courage with promise I've found in my faith.

Likely or not it's a dream that we keep and at odds with our senses we'll climb. But if faith is the answer, we've already reached it. And if spirit's a sign, then it's only a matter of time."

This song never fails to get my spirits up. And please note that I am about as un-religious as one can get; I just enjoy the uplifting feeling that alot of songs with positive messages give me (another reason why Surrounded is another one of my DT faves).

Anyway, getting back to the original post, do yourself a favor and sit down and really listen to WDADU! It really is an amazing album, not to mention a great display of how good Kevin Moore really is...

    Happy 'jamming!

Some people mosh, some don't. We all enjoy the music best in our own way - whether it's running around like maniacs or sitting still, too fucking blown out of our minds by the music to do anything. I personally fall into this latter category, but I have moshed, and I enjoyed it very much (sure as hell beat the stupid regular dancing that had been going on up till then). Course I was moshing to Def Leppard, so I didn't care if I was missing the subtler aspects of the music. But here's the real point. If I'm enjoying the music in my own way (sitting, staring, drooling), then I'm going to be disrupted by someone barreling into me. I'd be upset. If, however, I am moshing and some joe is sitting in his seat (sitting, starting, drooling), I am not at all disrupted (well, depends on how severe the drooling is). See the difference? Since DT is not a 100% moshing band, it probably isn't a good idea to do it, unless someplace is sectioned out for it, away from the droolers.

    Hey jammers,

To jump on a thread, I've thought of three bands that qualify for the "all original, 5 releases" thing.

They include two Australian bands, and a Canadian.

INXS: I think they might have just broke up, but if not, they qualify!

Midnight Oil: I think I may be right with this one. If I'm wrong, flame away!

Tragically Hip: Canadian band with a bit of a following in the US. They definitely qualify!

The top selling album of all time is definitely "Thriller" by Mikey. I believe it broke the record set by "Saturday Night Fever".

Sorry for the lack of DT content.

    Hello all ye jammers!

I have a very quick question here. I hope some one can help me out with this. Okay. I downloaded this quicktime mov file of 'Lie' from Dream Theater's internet www site. And now I'm running into a problem that my computer won't be able to play it back. Why is that happening? Does any one have an answer? Is that 'Lie' mov file for Mac or something? I have an IBM compatible that's very very fast and I know I have plenty of memory in my computer. Yeah, this 'Lie' is the only mov file I can't play back on my computer. Help!!!
