I received my DT window sticker a couple days ago, and I must say I'm a
little disappointed in the quality of it. If I could explore the WWW
graphically, I could have seen it, but alas, I couldn't because I have a
shell account and can't get SLIRP or TIA to work. Anyways, it didn't
look very good quality-wise, with, for instance, the way curves are drawn
with lines instead of smooth curves. I don't know if that made sense but
you that have gotten these stickers know what I'm talking about. Also, I
thought the Majesty symbol was more circular.

I'm not asking for a refund, as I admire this guy(s) want to put out
something for all the DT fans. Just call me a sticler for quality stuff,
which explains my extreme like of DT. :) I'm sorry if I sound like the
bad guy here, I hope nothing bad comes out of this..

I stopped in Strawberries Music last night, and asked what the ACOS
release date was. My friend who works there looked it up, and told me
he had the date as the 19th.

Well, I'll save myself the trouble of driving over there by making
    a phone call. =)

(Then again, I've gone out to buy a few albums on their release date,
and the people working there have had to open the boxes up... <g> )

BTW: Anyone know the name of the producer(s)?

    >KNAC (the recently deceased local heavy metal station)

    Ah, yes! Long Beach, CA.
For those of you not familiar with that station, you really missed out.
Whenever I was in LA, that's about the only station I listened to. It's
like all Hispanic programming now, from what I'm told. And it's a
shame that such a great station had to fall by the wayside. :(

When I heard about it being sold, I took my "KNAC - PURE ROCK"
window decals and turned them upside down in mourning. <sigh>
Happilly, I do have pictures from Foundations Forum of KNAC stuff
and the memories of drinking with the station's Program Director,
    back in '93. =)

    Hello again!

Just read all the DT-info I could find in the German mag "Rock Hard". One
thing was the review of ACOS. The first time a DT-release did NOT get a 10 (out
of 10) but just a 9. Of course that's just because of the cover tunes ;-)... oh
I don't know what LatM did get, maybe they aren't fans of live recordings ;-)
Then there was a short feature in the news section with the usual blah we all
know, like that ACOS is just an album for the fellow fans and so on. But one
thing was that: a) The sales of Awake were more as twice as high as the ones of
I&W in Germany and the Netherlands, b) they got triple gold in Japan (don't
know which album, maybe all together), c) the US sales were just enough that
they won't be dropped (200,000 of Awake, about 400,000 of I&W). And then you're
asking why they aren't touring to support ACOS! They just don't like to ruin
themselves, it would be too risky to start another tour.

But another album isn't that bad either, isn't it? ;-) Hell, I'm wondering who
will produce the next album! My vote goes to the Awake-team, everyone else
would be compared with these guys. But well, I think they know what they are
    doing...

    Really unimportant stuff coming up!

Just read the answers to the trivia questions. Here's another band which used
the main theme from "America": Metallica on the black album ("Don't tread on
me", one of the better songs on a more or less boring album). BTW: Why does
everyone like Master of Puppets most? I think the overall best album ever was
    Ride the Lightning.

The german song is named "Der Kommissar" and this guy called Falco came from
Austria, but who cares for THIS anyway...?

Again the Wayne's World question. Just a few weeks ago I watched it with that
in mind. During the concert there's no close-up, but you can see him playing
keys and wildly banging his head, very funny ;-) I'm not sure, but I think
that you can see him for approx. 0.2 secs on the after show party. Mostly hair
and some part of a face - that's not that long, I think. I don't know if it
could be Derek, it's just a short flash. The scene I'm thinking of is the
moment where our two protagonists are just entering the party room. There's one
guy in the foreground who turns his head and that's it. Oh well...

    Bye,

    Steffen

I called Warner Bros. last week about that sucker, and it seems it
won't be out for about 3-4 weeks. Maybe they are trying to do a
double release with ACOS? Who knows. I guess Petrucci mentioned it
since the GW magazine was the October issue. But the way magazines are,
we read about it in September and are thrown into a major frenzy
because of it. Unless another Jammer hears about it (or gets it) before
I do, I'll post when it is available and how to get it.

Also I have just been to Our Price records and asked, and they have on their

i just found out about this yesterday. mike portnoy is doing a drum clinic
on wednesday, 9/13/95, at 6:30pm. location is "millenium" on fm1960 3 miles
east of I-45. tickets are **$1** in advance, $2 day of show. pretty
    reasonable, eh? ;)

i will be there even though i am a guitarist. the commercial for it on the
radio was pretty cool. says he will be doing the clinic, a q&a session,
a solo, and signing autographs. it said cameras (pictures) were ok, but i
dont know about camcorders. too bad mine ate shit and died. i might try to
borrow a pro camera if they will allow it.

the place holds ~1000 people, so that shouldnt be a problem. the general
location of the place is 20 miles northwest of houston off of interstate 45.

anyone wanting to hook up let me know via email or phone. my phone # is on
my web page if you *really* want to call ;)

I'm not sure but I was listening to 102.1( ZROCK) Detroit and on the

Purple. The voice sounded just like James and the sound was D.T's but is
it possible that this is D.T's version of the song because it was a great
version and I would love to get a copy of this.

    Hi,

I've already received a number of responses from people who
are interested in the ACoS promo CD so there is no need for anyone
    to send more replies.
BTW, for those that asked, I did not get this promo CD for
free (I wish I *did* get free promo CDs!) -- I asked around at some
stores and finally came across a place that was willing to sell two
of them at regular CD prices. I'm asking $20 (which includes shipping)
so I'm really only making a few dollars on it. I hope no one thinks
I'm out to make a mint or something. You should try asking at stores
in your area too -- you never know. :-)

What I want to know is: Did ordering and production already take place? When Mike first introduced this CD idea, I was really excited and couldn't wait to get my hands on the CD. I'm really hoping that I didn't miss my chance! :( Mike or anyone else who knows, if you read this, please E-mail me if you have time and let me know what the scoop is. I would appreciate it greatly. :)

As I promised earlier, here is my review of the ACoS CD. Overall, it's great! :-) I especially enjoy the new introduction to ACoS and the vocals sound much better than on the live version (and the backing vocals add some nice texture). I'm not particularly fond of the crunching guitar sound, but other guitar sounds are used as well, so there is nice variety. I now know why no one replied when I asked if my favorite part of ACoS (the part at 15:00 in the live version) was still in there. :-( It's not really there, though pieces of it are still used. That was pretty disappointing for me. Why they took out that cool jam, I guess I'll never know. Sigh. As I listen to it more, I'm getting over it though. ;) The middle section of the song is very strong, especially the vocals. I'm listening to that part now. Cool! Anyway, I really enjoy the disc -- the covers are all very good too. I think it's wonderful that DT would put out a release like this mainly for their fans. It shows what a cool band they are. Thanks DT!!

First of all yet another huge THANK YOU! to Mike Bahr on Cygnus, it's simply awesome/enthralling, fill in your own superlatives... To add to the Favorite DT moments thread 1) The section of Scarred from "Do you feel...." through "Sometimes i feel i should face this alone...." (~5:00-6:30) sometimes brings tears to my eyes 2) Approx. from 4:00 to 4:30 of Bombay Vindaloo, especially the last ten seconds....I don't know how to describe it in musical terms, but it hits me *right there* 3) The Instrumental section in the middle of "A Vision" (from the Majesty Demos)--I like that section enough to vault the whole song into top 5 status when I make up a Favorite DT songs list On the flip side: 1) I don't particularly like UaGM--it's the one song on IaW that just never hooked me.....I know exactly what the guy who talked about 'cycles of liking some songs' means, but I guess UaGM's number hasn't come up yet 2) When I see mention of the IF outro here, I feel sorta left out, and wonder if I'm listening to the same song as you are....another section that has never struck me as PARTICULARLY awesome...... 3) The song Afterlife form WDADU--after great verse lyrics, like the "Running like Mice through a maze" line, the chorus is a huge disappointment and just killed the song for me

One last thing: As I said above, "A Vision"is on o' my fave DT songs, even if they weren't exactly DT at the time....Has the band ever done studio versions of the songs from the demos, or are there any bootlegs out there including "A Vision"--I'd love to hear a LaBrie sung version of that song..... The address for Dream Theater is 701 Lighthouse Avenue, Monterey, CA The phone number is 1-408-372-1331. Any one could have found it, just dial a directory service.

I went to Tower records the other day, and looked up on their list of releases-to-come. Surprise, surprise, A Change of Seasons was not on the list. I asked the clerk, who checked up on his handy-dandy computer, and there was nothing about a Dream Theater release arriving in the future. Nor was there a recent release. Nor did they have the demo. What is up with this? Any similar results aside from Tower and Musicland? Perhaps we should complain to them.

The local HMV here in Edomonton said that the release date for ACOS was sept. 26, so maybe it's just you guys in the east.

Anyways, I have a copy of the Sub. CD for sale. I am going to start the bidding at $25 US, since that is what I paid for it. Please E-mail me directly. My address is:

Braveheart rules!! It may not be entirely historically accurate (it's not, I checked), but the battle scenes are excellent, and he does a braw Scottish accent. The real test, though, will be what the Scots think of it. Desperado rules the world as well. The scene where he's walking towards this guy and brushes hand through his hair and pulls out a gun- I didn't know anybody could be that cool! Apparently a movie version of "Evita" will be coming out, with Madonna and Antonio Banderas. I can't wait!!!

Sorry for the random movie comments, they needed to be expressed.

    I eagerly await Sept. 19th.

    hehe...j/k!

Anyway, I finally broke down and bought myself car stereo #3. =)

    Hopefully this one stays around...

*Fun At The Electronics Store* - by Hairball (Contains SOME DTC!)

Went to Circuit City (hey, they're the cheapest around here...) and (of course) brought Awake with me. =) I popped it into the car stereo display, and another sales guy came over, wondering who was playing DT...heh...I bought the stereo, paid for it, and went back & chatted with him for a while. (I had about an hour to kill before they got it in) He got busy, so, I wandered around for a while. Finally, I went out, they took the car in, I signed, they went to work.

Back into the store again...I went to the music department, and asked the guy what release date he had for ACoS. He didn't have it. We talked about DT - I heard him playing Tull earlier - and I actually convinced him to let me put Awake in the stereo system. =)

He also got on the phone (at my suggestion) and called the retail rep (who I also know), and was going to try to get a promo copy of the CD in (I asked him to try for two...hehe...). By the time I left, he said he would probably buy Awake. =)

    Another sale success story! =)

First lemme say that you all suck who have gotten promo ACOS CDs. I tried my local import/used CD store and they didn't have it. I even asked :(

Second, lemme just say a word of thanks to everyone for visiting my Dream Theater Site. I am planning on doing a complete make over of my Dream Theater pagessoon, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Stickers just rock. I love em. Check em out on my Dream Theater Page at http://www.dreamt.org.

Last but not least I wanna say, Brian Wherry is a Guitar God. :) And he's even being nice enough to give me lessons, so I can be as cool as him someday.

Think that's it for now. Talk to you all later
