In the weekly new-release list I get, this line appears...

    7/96 Dream Theater <title unavailable>

I thought it was going to be in SPRING of 96! =(

Anybody know how reliable this new-releases list is? Do they change stuff?

I just got my new releases list and I thought I'd edit it down to something
workable. This is a list of artists worth mentioning. Some are silly, some
are weird, but it's a cool list none the less. Do NOT e-mail me about more
info, as I have none, and do NOT assume I like all these artists. I just kept
them because most people know who they are, or at least I do. =) Enjoy. And
if you're looking for DT content, take a look at 7/96!

does anybody remember/have _Knebworth - The Album_? For those of you who
don't know what I'm talking about, about 4-5 years ago, somebody decided
to put out a compilation of performances from one Knebworth Festival, an
annual concert held in England for some reason or another, which features
various Bristish artists. There are some cool performances on the disc,
but there are some real stinkers. It was among the other cutouts, and
the two-CD set sold for $6.

Anyway, on this album, Genesis does a big ol' medley of some old rock
songs, and whaddaya know, they end it with "Turn it on Again."

    Hello!

Speaking of Watchtower: Listen to their first album Energetic Disassembly,
it's even more crazy. Never heard so arhythmic lyrics since Sieges Even.
The singer back then was Jason McMaster, now Dangerous Toys and the one who
wrote most of the totally unsingable lyrics on both albums, guitarist White,
quit the band before Control... and joined Don Dokken's solo project...

To the one who's wife's name is Kellie Brewer (can't you sign, man? ;-))):

The reason why DT didn't record some more own stuff is that the record
company didn't allow that. Back then it was said that there would be ACOS
and one or two other older songs (maybe Don't Look Past Me?) on it, but
then the label gave them only the permission to do that big thing and
nothing more. Maybe they put some older stuff on the next album or on a
B-side as they did the last time. Who knows...

Hey, did I mention that ACOS rules?

The Ytsejammers live in a world where nearly everybody loves this thing ;-)

ACOS interactive, don't get nuts. Enjoy it as we got it.

Oh, BTW: The example 'TCS' shows the insufficiencies of abbreviations quite
    good ;->

What's on with this fan club? Read a lot of complaints about it, no replies
and so on. But well, who needs a fan club, anyway? We got this mailing
    list. ;-)

The intro drums of 6:00 are in Surround? What a hell of a lot of details in
    these albums...

    Take care,

    Steffen

*way* behind the times... Fisrt of all, I sent off my money for the
Ytsejam CD. Whatever hapened to that? It never got mailed to me,
and d I never got money back or email as to what happened or anything. Can
    anybody help me?

Also, it sounds like DT has come out with another album, named A Change os
Seasons? Yay! Is it better than Awake? (Not that I don't like awake, it's
just a little more ... commercial than the Dream THeater I like most..)

One more thing. An ACOS tour? WIll they come to Philly this time? I hope so,
because I didn't get to see them on theAwake tour :(.

Please ecuse any typos. I'm lagging too badly to see what I am typing...

    A) Any notice that the cover Kid looks like Fred Savage's little brother
(the guy who has a show on running ABC now, don't ask me the name)
    B) Sorry, I don't hear Erotomania in the EP ACOS, but I do hear the Wheel

    C) and to Keith (?), or kgunner@imap1.asu.edu--I like most of your

So I'm sitting here listening to ACOS at high volume on headphones,
when comes along The Inevitable Summer and Derek's loud synth train
rumble and I feel the ground start to shake.

On cue a real train was coming along the track behind my apartment.
    Coincidence?

BTW I'm looking for Derek's great keyboard work and the Yes, UK, Rush,
and Marillion tracks from the covers gig. Also for Moore stuff and
At Fates Fingers. Anyone out there master of the boots, make a ytsejam
compilation (like Mike B but cheaper)?

OR, just buy me a CD presser, etc, and I'll make ytse cd's at bargain

    NO!

I play guitar. I know how to play both ACoS and Erotomania and they are
definately not similar at all. Erotomania is very chromatic in the riff
section you are comparing. In ACoS, they're simply changing between two
different minor scales. Which sounds kind of chromatic. And I guess the
keyboard sound is kind of the like the Erotomania sound, so I can see why
many people think they hear Erotomania in ACoS. But it's not really there.
The two riffs are musically very different.

    >I find reoccuring themes like these very

I'm am under the impression that that riff in ACos was written long before
    Erotomania was even though of.

    >Am I the only one who thinks they did it on purpose?

    Probably not. :)

Thanks all for listening to my point of view.

P.S. Ronnie Scott's vid in December??? Any other concert stuff coming
out? How 'bout a video for ACos? Yeah, right.

The guy from "Boy Meets World"? I'm not sure if that's Fred Savage's
brother, but I know when I first got the album, I showed my girlfriend the
cover, and she said "Hey, that looks just like... Umm... What's that show
again?" and I said "Boy Meets World?" And we both said "Yup!". Strange.. :)

Just got my latest copy of Metal Edge in the mail and I figured
I'd post this everybody that's too cool to read it could check it out:

*Note* I have changed the author's misspelling of theater. He does it
    every time!!!

"A Change of Seasons" is a studio version of the 22-minute cult
classic that Dream Theater played live only once in Germany and once in
New York City. Bootleg versions had left fans starving for a proper
release of this mini-rock opera. So after an amazing amount of fan mail,
phone calls and a massive fan-initiated Internet campaign that flooded
the EastWest office, the band decided to release an EP featuring the
legendary opus as well as cover versions of songs by their idols.
"A Change of Seasons" is titled in sections, beginning with
"The Crimson Sunrise," a beautiful acoustic intro that seques into
"Innocence," a full-on rocker with the intricate time signatures,
complex arrangements and superb musicianship that define the
progressive heavy metal style of Dream Theater. Next is "Carpe Diem,"
translated from the Latin "Seize the Day." This segment urges one to
live life fully, and encompasses riotous jazz piano, frenzied thrash
double bass drum riffing and ends with a grandiose finale that descends
into the somber "The Darkest Winters." This mournful sequence then
ascends into the hopeful and multi-textured "Another World," followed
by the bursting "The Inevitable Sunset," (should be Summer) then the
            shining finale of "The
            Crimson Sunset."
The live tribute, recorded at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in
London on January 31, 1995, features energetic, sometimes innovative
versions of Elton John's "Funeral For a Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding"
and Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers." Their Led Zeppelin Medley
includes raucous renditions of "The Rover," "Achilles Last Stand" and
"The Song Remains The Same," while their "Big Medley" features Pink
Floyd's "In The Flesh," Kansas's "Carry On Wayward Son," Queen's
"Bohemian Rhapsody," Journey's "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'," Dixie
Dreggs "Cruise Control" and "Turn It On Again" by Genesis. This EP is
a must for Dream Theater fanatics and novices alike. -Nick Fowler.

    Dear Airdance,

You really must give me the ok, or I'll have to write silly
long-winded replies like this one forever.

Yes!! This way we can get a "thank-you" in ALL future Dream Theater

Mr. McConney, congratulations on the correct Italian spelling of that
phrase. (breaks spelling award in half, hands piece to Shamus) That's an
interesting interpretation of the English translation, too.

Nevermind that Derek didn't write anything from WDADU, I&W, or Awake, nor

    Hey all:
I think Jim Bako (?) already supplied the remark about indeces, I am
just here to second it ('cuz I am trying to catch up on my old 'Jams). I think
that would have been cool if they did put index markings between the
"movements" of ACOS and of the Uncovered tunes. My dad's CD player (circa
1986) has the ability to search for indeces, and that little bonus would have
left it an EP, but still allow us to find our "fave parts" more easily. On
second thought...skip that. The entirety of ACOS is my fave part.
As for the Instrumental intro and outro: I read that some 'Jammers
would have preferred ACOS ending with a "BANG!" instead of a "whimper." As for
me, I disagree totally. If you think about it, the changing seasons of the
year are used as a metaphor for life. Just as the seasons always return no
matter what happens the previous year, life will continue to go on. To
symbolize this, DT *needed* to end the song the same way it began, with the
guitar solo. This symbolizes the seasons coming around again in the next year,
just as the "son's" life will go on after the father has passed, hopefully with
    less sorrow.
            Just my dos centavos.

I say we cut off the headstock of John Petrucci's prize guitar, the
Picasso #1, then wait until he falls asleep, sneak into his room, and
leave it in his bed. That way he'll wake up next to it. We could wrap it
in one of Jason Giles' Ytsejam t-shirts. Petrucci'll know who it is and
where to reach us. I can see the e-mail now... "Look, Mr. Petrucci, we
respect your business and your family, but the Don Progressivo wants
Metropolis II on the next album." You know, make Dream Theater an offer

    hi everybody,

someone mentioned metropolis ii. I don't really know outside the reguler
DT releases so can anyone say something more about this. When I first
subscribed the Jam everybody was talking about ACoS and I was like what the??
after I got the E.P kinda had a few days of relief but I guess I am back to
    that mode again :(

In case you are wondering .. love the E.P. but really wanted to hear more
of their own songs or at least couple of more complete cover songs with all
the medleys. I'm not saying I mind the medleys but I want more DT stuff.
one last thing I am a huge fan of Perfect Strangers and though I like the
stuff DT did but is there somebody else think that there is something in the
cover thats kinda wierd??or is it just me and my screwed up mind??

anyway, thanx to every one at the jam for the album, I wasnot a member when you people did whatever to get the band to release it ( wish I were) you guys are
    awesome!!

    Minhaz.
by the way I'm from Mars and you...?

I called the store and got the definite story on John's clinic.

Where: Ken Stanton Music, Roswell St. in Marietta, GA
--about 15 miles NW of Atlanta, for you out-of-towners
    When: Sunday October 8th, 7pm.
Tickets: $10 apiece at the store. When I called, about fifty
remained. The employee mentioned they'd been doing quite well, and
this is not a DT-friendly city, radio-wise. Kewl!

I will try to be there, despite the fact that the only instruments I
play are the stereo and the steering wheel. :) I'll be wearing my Ytsejam
t-shirt, of course! Complication: if we have tickets to the NL
divisional playoff game that night, I suppose I'll have to go to that
    instead. :(

It'd be fun to arrange a Ytsejam members' get-together before the
clinic (or afterward) -- if you're planning to attend, send me email.

In a recent issue of the Japanese metal magazine Burrn (sp?) with Iron Maiden's new front man and Steve Harris on the cover, they had a two pager on DT and it mentioned that James LaBrie won best vocalist of the year, John Myung bassist of the year, and Mike Portnoy drummer of the year. My question is: what the heck? What about John Petrucci?! And Kevin Moore?!

I really think that the funeral concept works... The voices under the Whoa-ing says: "Something happened... she was killed". That's the clincher for me.

Also... the solo to TTT is SO GOOD!!! I was listening to that the other nite.. it just sucks you in!
