Usual Suspects is also a great flick -- Kevin Spacey makes one hell of a
    bad guy!

(DTC)- John L., you're totally right about that part in ACoS that people
think sounds like Erotomania. Erotomania is all chromatic and whatnot,
whereas ACoS is just phrygian. I guess the key sound is what did it.

To David G. Swanston IV: "Joey...you have to stop the Q-tip when there's
RESISTANCE." It still makes me laugh when I think about it!

To Paul Cashman: a John Petrucci clinic? I know he disapproves of
bootlegs, but I don't suppose you could organize something in which
someone were to, um, videotape or possibly audiotape the clinic itself?
Seriously, this would not only be entertaining to us Dream Theater masses,
it would be extremely educational to us struggling guitarists!

just felt the need to comment on Bafu Vai's "Godfather" inspired post.
while it would definitely be an interesting way to get Metropolis II
released, i do not recommend following through with it. i have a feeling
John Petrucci would give you an offer you couldn't refuse if you touched
    his guitar.

Couldn't help it. I was listening to Kevin's demo tape for 2 weeks
straight whilst I was waiting for ACOS. :)

    >Maybe he's really just a closet "Full House" fan and won't admit it though. ;)

I'd be more of a FH fan if they had gotten rid of that little brat
    Michelle. Talk about gag-worthy.

    Jason Giles:
    >damn it all! I KNOW I edited the right file, but my changes apparently weren't

Was wondering why you were allowing orders until May of next year. :)

    To everyone:
    >The shirts are black 100% pre-shrunk cotton, with the Majesty logo on the
    >front breast. Underneath it 'ytesejam the internet mailing digest' is written.
    >On the back there is a large DREAM THEATER logo, with 'let the light surround'
    >you written in greyish, glow in the dark ink.

If you don't have one, get one! It's a great shirt, and I get questions
about it everytime I wear it. Only problem is that people obviously don't
know about DT. When I mention that it's a progressive metal band, the
usual question is: "Oh, which instrument to you play?" I'm usually tempted
to say I'm Mike Portnoy, and I play the drums. (Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's
    a lie, but I can dream, can't I? :)

    Toaster:
    >Hi y'all! Well, I've been gone for a few solid months now, and am

    >Ytsejam CD. Whatever hapened to that? It never got mailed to me,
    >and d I never got money back or email as to what happened or anything. Can
    >anybody help me?

What Ytsejam CD are you referring to? If it's Acoustic Dreams, then,
it's not due to start mailing until September 30th, this Friday. Mike
Bahr isn't a con artist by any stretch of the imagination, demi-god
    maybe. :)

If you don't get the CD by end of October, then start worrying.

    >One more thing. An ACOS tour? WIll they come to Philly this time? I hope so,
    >because I didn't get to see them on theAwake tour :(.

Nope, it's more of an EP like _Live at the Marquee_.

    Ben Laussade:
    >I need (not want, NEED!!) the early version of ACoS/DoE/whatever.
    >If anybody is willing to copy it for me, I'll send a blank tape.

It's on the _Subconscious_ CD compiled by Mike Bahr. Check with me or
Trey Allen for the list of dub sites.

    >I wouldn't mind a copy of WDADU either.

Telnet to cdnow.com or cdeurope.com and buy the CD.

    Fernando Ma:
    >I was wondering if anyone out there knows of any DT posters I could get.

Hate to say it, but ME TOO! :)

Maybe we can put pressure for a poster as an item during the next tour
along with the ball caps and shirts.

Anyone know what I'm talking about, the CW arrows in every newsweek issue? No? Oh well... Bafu Vai: Ooooh, love that Don Progressivo story, especially as how the Godfather is my favorite BOOK (the movie's OK, too), but i'm not the one that's gonna give up my Ytsejam shirt ACOS: It's taken me a week to figure this out, but here's what i came up with....The songs I was *disappointed* with (ACOS, PS) are those for which I had the highest expectaions....ACOS, knowing the DoE version, and PS, having the orig. on my all-time fave list.... On the other hand, the other covers I had no expectations for, I love AWAKE: This is a strange by-product of my 'new' ACOS antipathy for me, IaW = best album ever made, but the new IaW style ACOS suffers in comparison to the (dare i say) Awake style DoE version As a result, I went back and listened to Awake for a long time Saturday (I hadn't really listened to the WHOLE album in a while) My estimate of its worth has risen greatly Of course, you all probably don't care, but I figured If I could waste another 5 minutes of your life, why not?

Partha "Cynical Fuck" Mukhopadhyay P.S.> I got a 120 minute tape and am trying to make an ACOS + for myself, with all the original version of the covers....what album do I find the Dixie Dregs "Cruise Control" on? And how about the Elton John stuff? thanks in advance, psm

Especially when most of them say the same thing...I love ACOS, or, I wish "please don't go" was still there, or Acos is a masterpeice. I agree w/ all of these comments but can we kind of refrain from sending comments which have been stated more that 10 times already. Please no flames...I am sure many others feel this way.

    Hey jammers, a few things:

1- Does anyone have a really good Majesty symbol that they can email me?

2- My theory on ACOS being done only twice live...they are refering to the new version.

3- My commentary on Awake as a concept album (all songs included) is temporarily on hold due to constant listening to ACOS.

4- I like the ACOS reviews in #981. They actually had some really interesting stuff that has not already been mentioned.

5- I asked one of the voice teachers here at PSU to translate "Adesso che o perso la vista, ci vedo meglio e di piu." According to Marshall Urban and his Italian\English dictionary, it means, "now that the sight is lost, we can see clearly and of more." That is direct from archaic Italian.

see yall later and yay for AD in just a few days, Howard

Then what is this forum for then? Who are you (or I) to judge who should lurk and who should not? If you don't like the volume of posts, then unsubscribe for a while (like Hairball), or just perform massive deletions. The traffic has _already_ died down. Since there are almost 1K of us now, accept the high bandwidth, especially when a new release almost coincides with the new semester. What are you complaining about anyway? You don't have to pay for your account, it's funded by the taxpayer.

Really? Where were you all summer? It's _ACOS_, things are in flux right now. Please. You've only been here a year (not including the summer, right?) and you dare include yourself with the "old-list Jammers?" This list has been around a lot longer than you (or even I) have. Despite your complaints, I like the list better _now_ (read: not the past month; rather, the past year), even if it can be quite seasonal. "Dry" periods used to be boring as shit. I've been on the list for about a year and I think talk about the album and reviews are not only expected when the CD comes out (only a week ago), but the discussion IS very interesting, forcing the issue to go and listen to what other Jammers have heard. A great example of this is how many people hear Erotomania in ACOS. I never picked that up and I still haven't, but it gave me something to think about and listen for. The "ACOS--My View" surge will die down in a couple weeks and new threads will start. Sorry you feel the way you do, but good initiative in starting up a new thread.

I have to disagree with you (I know people seem to be building arguments on both sides of this fence). I like the real snare sound. It sets the drum apart from the rest of his kit and is a nice break from the snare sounds hPortnoy uses more often. And as someone else mentioned vs. the triggered snare, one can really hear the subtleties and you can hear them better with this snare than with the deeper snare. LATER-

Did anyone have a hard time reading digest #986? I would read through it and then my terminal would freeze up part way into it at the exact same part of the jam, everytime. I forget who posted the message but it was something about their idea of what the lyrics meant in Another World. I had to save the messages by itself and then view it in a text editor. When I got to the message that was screwing me up, I noticed it had a bunch of wierd control codes in it. LIke everywhere the person used a " ' ", it would put something like "/221". So the line might look like "I don/222t really like it".

Any ideas on what they did wrong? I hope they can fix this "problem" so I don't have to keep hanging up and calling back into the system and reading the jam in a text editor from now on.

I have seen the Dave Matthews Band twice, and although I am a BIG fan of what they do, I really don't think they give a "better" live show than DT. Someone mentioned how DMB go on and on with lots of improvised jams at their shows and stuff. Yeah, but it takes about one of those per show to get boring -- and they seem to throw one in during every song!!! How about the twenty minute into to Ants Marching? (people recognize it, so play it to death!) I don't see what's so great about the violinist. The drummer, on the other hand is AMAZING! He's got all kinds of chops, and he plays really tastefully. Well, that's just my $.02 on that one.

Also, I really think "Seven" kicks "Pulp Fiction" in the ass!! Going to see it again soon . . . .

    Later!

I'm new to this list, but I have to say that I am behind you Ryan. I can understand how this list can get out of control. We all love Dream Theater and it's easy to get carried away.

For the sake of debate,I must admit that when I first heard DT I thought they were another one of those "hair bands",i.e. "Another Day". Therefore I didn't dig their music.

    BOY WAS I WRONG!!!!!!

That being the only song I had heard by them, I was easily dumbfounded by the pure power of _AWAKE_ and the rest of I&W. This is what I hope they can accomplish with the new LP. I like it when each time you listen to a song and you can find some new little place you have never been.

O.K. that's it for my rambling. Later!

    Hi All,

I was in this music store here in Madison the other day and saw this HUGE poster of John Petrucci. It was an Ibanez ad that showed him on stage rocking away and had a cool little insert of him holding his guitar. Does anyone know where I can get one of these? Does anyone have the number or address for Ibanez? Any help would be appreciated greatly, thanx.

I'll leave this subject alone, because it fits... :s (a smiley who doesn't know whether to be happy or sad) Anyways, really enjoyed seeing a UNSUSCRIBE message immediately followed by a SUSCRIBE message, and then seeing a guy named Ryan complaining about the # of ACOS reviews immediately followed by a guy named, guess what, RYAN with yet another ACOS review..... My point? To the complainant Ryan, don't worry, friend, we'll get over this phase....if you were suscribed to the Queensryche digest (SiD) when the band was on tour, you got 12000 carbon copy posts doing concert reviews each week....it has since recovered (sort of).... just as we'll get back to discussing the lyrics, or whatever it is that turns you on.....

and oh, yeah, you're right, I'm just posting this for the hell of it.... Partha "Cynical Fuck" Mukhopadhyay

I'm interested in getting hold of the Fates Warning CD containing 'Ivory Gate of Dreams', but I'm not sure what the CD is called, or if has been released over here in the UK.

    Can any jammers help?

YES! What the hell is this list for anyway? Isn't it to talk about Dream Theater? Here I am. Stranded in Boylston, MA with no Dream Theater fan friends around. So I turn to the 'jam. Here I can voice my opinion or ask questions or just talk about DT. Damn. A new album was just released and I wanna talk about it. I want to hear other people's opinions. Let's discuss it. Interpret it. Listen to it. There hasn't been so much DT content on the 'jam in a long time. If you didn't like the story of the drunk guy, skip it! Wasn't there a warning at the beginning of it? If you're tired of ACOS discussions, skip them too. One guy didn't even know about ACOS. Now he does :). So, Ryan, if you don't like a topic, skip it. If this is the best thread you can do, try harder.

No applogies if you read this and didn't like it :p.

    Back to the 'jam.

As much as I like James, I can't help but agree with Steve's comment in the last 'Jam about this subject. It seems like he starts without thinking about where he want's to finish. Personally, I think his harmonic-minor posturings in "Perfect Strangers" are some of his best improvisations yet, but there is other stuff out there that would best be forgotten. He's still the best male rock singer out there today. A while back there was some discussion of what the female equvalent of James LaBrie would be. Some people said Ann Wilson. She's got the range, but not the technique. I think on the quiet stuff James does a pretty good Tori, but as far as being an all-around singer I'd have to say Pat Benatar. She has a truly great technical and emotional voice, and I think she would be the most fitting female counterpart to James.

Has it struck anyone in listening to ACoS that all these Chritian themes and New Testament allusions are coming from our Jewish friend Mike Portnoy? :) When someone is admittedly "not religious" I think it's a beautiful thing that he can conceptualize these ideas.

Concerning the "mercy/massive fuck" thing, someone a few 'Jams ago said that he interpreted it as "I don't need your mercy, <you> fuck..." I always thought that it was "I don't need your mercy fuck...", a mercy fuck being, how shall we say, one more for the road or for old times' sake before we part. Kind of like a good-bye kiss after a breakup--"we've already broken up, but let's kiss anyway so you won't feel so bad." As if that helps.

Anyway, that's it for now. I'm gonna go to my girlfriend's house later and get me a "massive fuck!" :)
