No, you don't understand, since you didn't see the web page. It is not
like a physical card that was scanned, it is an electronic postcard sent
by an electronic postcard company (i.e. you create the card on their
site and send the WWW address for the card thru e-mail). On the card it
said that the SENDER's address was mikep@eastwest.com. This would mean
that Mike Portnoy has an e-mail address on a server which would probably
have a WWW presence as www.eastwest.com or eastwest.com. eastwest.com
doesn't exist, and www.eastwest.com is a bookstore.

My thoughts concerning Phish, This is a truly talented band combining many musical styles, and with amazing creativity. What other band do you know of that has a drummer who whips out a vaccum and jams out a solo on it? In response to Scott Cook's post about Phish becomming trendy (i.e. Smashing Pumpkins, etc.), give it a listen before you decide. Check out any live show (Phish allows taping at shows) or A Live One and check out their incredible improvisational jams and witty lyrics. I don't mean to start a Phish Phorum here on the Jam, but this is my 2 cents on the matter.

Well, as far as I know, there is no such thing. Reading it shouldn't be any different except that you can't just look at the tab as a fretboard. He'll just have to turn it around in his mind. If he's never played right handed it shouldn't feel backwards. TTFN- Sean

There is no such thing... tell him to restring his guitar the other way around... better yet.. he should still learn it right-handed... I'm left-handed and I did and it's better for you in the long run... think about it... we have better control of our left hand, and that's the hand we move the most... makes sense to me... right-handed players should be the ones playing like Jimi H.

Whats up guys,
I MUST let everyone in the NYC area know about a GREAT day for which fans of progressive rock/metal can see some great bands!! The first Wednesday of every month is progressive night at the
Rock 'N' Roll Cafe 149 Bleecker St. NYC (212) 677-7630
Both times I have gone I was completely amazed that such underground bands would travel so far to play here and was totally blown away. I saw BOUD DEUN two months ago. As far as I am concerned, they are a REQUIREMENT for any fan of instrumentals like Steve Morse and Dixie Dregs...intense prog!! Last night I saw Tristan Park and the headliner..SOUNDSCAPE! Only two words describe them.....HOLY SHIT! I couldn't believe that I was seeing such amazing bands and all it cost me was what I paid for a beer (which was outrageous in itself...but what the hell!!) Tristan Park was ok..kinda like Marillion...a little mellow for my tastes, but the keyboardist totally shreds. Now SOUNDSCAPE....damndamndamn..these guys are GREAT!!!!!!! The guitarists is AS good if not BETTER than Petrucci!! Their trilogy completely blew my ass away! The guys from Braindance were studying them....which I guess is good but those guys seem a little too pretentious for their own good (anyone who has ever seen their cd booklet or their little fliers know what I'm talking about). So, all of you NYC Jammers remember that the first Wednesday of each month is prog nite at the Rock "n" Roll Cafe and I URGE ANY FAN of prog to check it out...its a great showcase for prog and I'm proud that their is finally an outlet for great musicians in the city!! Heard that Shadow Gallery was supposed to play...but its probably just a rumor :-(
Oh..btw, whoever mentioned ELEGY and ANGRA....GO AND BUY WHATEVER YOU CAN FIND!!!!!!!!!You will thank me later!
Long live the Mariner.........UP THE IRONS!

Just wanted to let you all know that last night I bought the SM single featuring a demo version of TtT and the studio recording of Eve. (For anyone who lives in the Chicago area, I bought it at the Best Buy store in Downers Grove and there were two other copies for sale @ $9.99.) I just have a question about the Eve recording. When Awake was released, it was released in Japan with a mini-disc that had the version of Eve recorded in the studio while Awake was recorded. I think one of the band members also said it would show up in the U.S. as a B-side or something. My question is: is this studio version of Eve the same as the one on the SM CD?

Hey guys!
I'm just wondering if anyone has a high quality recording of the final "Home for the Holidays" show that took place at the El 'n Gee club. This was the only show of the four that featured extended drum, keyboard and guitar solos. I have a pretty good assortment of DT boots and some miscellaneous DT items that I would be willing to offer in trade. If anyone can help me out, please let me know.
ALSO, I have a very good recording of Alex Skolnick at the National Guitar Summer Workshop two years ago. I recorded this from the audience during a concert where Alex played all sorts of tunes with teachers from the camp. The recording quality is excellent and Alex plays on a variety of rock and jazz tunes...and even sings a bit! The highlight of the tape is a burning version of "On Broadway" which ends in a guitar/scatting duel between Alex and NSGW's Matt Smith (also columnist for GFTPM mag). It's a VERY close call who smokes who:) The concert is about an hour long. If anyone is interested in trading any DT, Rush or Yes boots or miscellania for a copy, e-mail me personally. Later all!

I love Phish...even though I only have two albums...I plan to get more though...they've got a very cool sound. I have Hoist and Junta...great CDs! I would consider them progressive...although they seem more chilled out in there music...compared to most progressive stuff being wild and all over the place. Anyways...they're great musicians. Ryan...you know if they're ever coming to Madison or anyplace near here again?

OK....Forgot to tell Tori fans she was on the cover the last months MUSICIAN mag. Pretty good article, IMHO, and I don't even like her much.
Bruce Dickinson is even worse at improv than James LB. On "Perfect Strangers" off Acoustic, it sounds like he's trying to mirror John P. and is having a hell of a time. "WOOOOAAAAHHHH......OOOOOOHHHHH (warblewarblewhatever)" Yikes!
Musician thread: because you can write doesn't make you a writer; because you haven't studied writing doesn't mean you can't be a writer; the best writers studied their craft....see the connection with music? To be the BEST you DO need the knowledge, but it isn't neccessary to BE. I think those who have "the drive" would WANT to learn music theory and construction. As far as history goes, fine if you want to be a music historian. But musicians should at least have some historical knowledge of their "vibe." What are your influences and why? Art is an intellectual medium and should have some meaning behind why it's created and what it emotes. Justify!
Damon!!!!! Happy 22nd!! I hope you remember yours, cause I don't remember most of mine. Of course it was 5 years ago. You want "you're momma" jokes?
-Your mamma is so fat, she needs to drive a spandex car
-Your mamma is so fat, to measure her waste, she needs first down markers
-Your momma is so ugly, her nickname should be "DAAAAAAAAAMN!!!!!"(said hiding your face)
-Your momma is so dumb, it takes her 2 hours to watch "60 Minutes"
(ok, this next one is kind sick, but cracked me up first time I heard...sorry in advance to the women on the Jam)
- Your mamma is so dry, even her crabs carry canteens.(woah)

Hey, lighten up, jackass! Is it *my* fault that the best part of you ran down your mother's leg? No. Oh, and by the way, tell your mother for me that the double-condom thing was nothing personal. I just heard that I ought to be careful. :)

Hey Ben I think it was you who said "That showed up in jam number 1349, how long has that been going on". Well seeing as we are only about 50 past that number, and the jam have been coming out 8 or so the past couple of days, my guess would be jam 1349 was like 2 weeks ago. Nice try, still love ya.
