A quick note to Boston area Ytsejammers that the band Devine Regale will be
playing at Club III in Sommerville on Friday April 5th. Entertainment is
supposed to begin at about 9:00. I believe that they will be either the first
    or second band to play.

Devine Regale is a band which supposedly sounds *exactly* like (you guessed it)
DT. I had ordered one of their disks about four months ago but, alas, it has
not arrived yet, so I do not know to what degree this is true. Will not accept
any responsibility if this claim is total horse shit. But anything remotely
close should be worth checking out. Only five bucks. Let a little fresh air
into your wallet and check them out.

When will my WDATU arrive ??????

It's funny you should bring them up. Being that the people I hang out with
the most are pretty much a bunch of hippie freaks (my best friend and his
then-fiancee followed the Dead around the US for an entire summer a couple
years ago), I'm quite familiar with Phish; a bunch of my friends even
traveled from here (Norfolk, VA) to see them in New Orleans. They've been
hailed as the Dead of the 90s, and to my shock, even my *parents* had heard
of them. I was supposed to go see them in Hampton over Thanksgiving weekend
after the aforementioned best friend said he'd buy my ticket if I went. Due
to complications that were all his fault, <G> I ended up not going. I kind
of wish I had; I've been to quite a few alternative shows since I came to
college, and I enjoy the atmosphere; it's completely different from that at
metal shows - it's very laid back.

I like Phish quite a bit. Not to the point where I've started borrowing my
friends' bazillion CDs and bootleg shows, but I enjoy listening to them when
I'm at parties or just hanging out. No, they're not metal by a long shot,
nor do they play mind-bogglingly brilliant and technical material, but they
do some great jams that are great for just kicking back and relaxing -
whether you're tokin' on a bong or completely sober. <G>

If you're openminded enough to listen to something other than prog rock or
metal, I'd recommend that you check them out.

YES!!! I agree with the "progressive" definition of Phish! Sure they
have a lot less distortion than the bands we talk about, but their
musicianship and especially the way they play off each other is
phenomenal! If anybody gets the chance to see them live, it's well worth
the money (great music and about 3hours worth!) If you decided to give
them a listen, DO NOT get Hoist!!! I would recommend A Picture of Nectar
or Rift for a first chance listen. Have fun!!

    Hi all,

This was posted on the Dokken list and figured people on here might be
    interested.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
I just wanted to plug a new mailing list for one of my favorite bands:
Galactic Cowboys!! The list is run by James Dueck, and I suggest those
of you who are fans of GC to check it out: umduec37@cc.umanitoba.ca

DT content: I got my copy of the Status Seeker promo CD today and I
don't know what to do. Ya see, it's sealed and the seal is a sticker of
the MAJESTY label. So if I open it, I risk tearing the seal, and if I
keep it sealed, I don't get to listen to the Terry Brown remix. I do
have the TB remix on a boot tape, but the quality is average at best.

    Decisions, decisions....

Dont annoy us further, we have our work to do
Just think about the average, what use have they for you.

I don't mean to flame, but, I have posted, and have seen others posted
about getting dubs of the Xmas shows... and have seen nothing in turn. I
thought the tape tree was a way for all the unfortunates in the jammer
community who didnt get to see it first hand, get a dub of the shows.. I
also realize that sometimes people get busy, I myself am guilty of this I
am supposed to dub a few people a few things which they dont have and
still have to set up a time to go to the studio and dub them ( I havent
forgotten about anyone Im doing this for)

     So, again I'll ask:

Is there anyone who can dub for me the Xmas shows? I would like to get
them all, but if you only have 1 or two that would still be MOST
    appreciative!!!

Unless you are all to phuquin greedy and dont wanna share, you can all
    phuq off and die!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

somebody said iron maiden's lyrics were verbatim from the
    oriinal poem
in "rime of the ancient mariner". no, no, no! the parts of
    the song
that are in quotation marks and cite coleridge as the author are
    direct
quotes, but the majority of the lyrics are courtesy of iron
    maiden.

Yea, it is very cool.. My guitarist in my band, Xavier's Dream, got it a

he claims it was all worth the wait.

Someone asked who the younger jammers were. Then someone complained about
all the young jammers. So, who is the oldest jammer on the list?

It's true, there is an article in the back of guitar world on Norweigen
black metal. Not only did Mayhem's bassist kill the guitar player but he
boiled the brains and offered them to the rest of the band. Most of the
other members of the band is also in jail for defacing churches, etc.

There was also a band here in Denver who's bassist told the band he was
going to rape a girl, and he did. The rest of the band is having to testify
against him, which should be rough judging on how tight friends in bands
    are. This is pretty scary.

There are some sound bytes on WDADU that are not understandible on my CD
because of the poor sound quality. Is anyone able to hear them? Better
yet, does anyone know where they are from? I have loved sound bytes ever
since the ones I heard on Dark Side of the Moon. Actually those are just
people talking, but they sound very spooky when mixed in the background like
    that.

Anyone from Denver planning to see the Psychodelic Zombiez at the Mercury on
April 15 or 16? Great band. Great sense of jazz and all other forms of music.

    Later,
    Cory

       What is a musician?
A musician is someone who can play a song on a instrument. What is this
debate for? It's all just opinion anyway, based on your bias of
interpretion of a good or a sh*t player, but the fact remains that any
monkey with fingers and a guitar can play something on the thing.
Musicians are a dime a dozen but someone who can create the music
themselves should be respected because there in lies the talent, anything
else can be learned.(Even Kurt Cobain had something good even though I
don't care for his work, he wasn't a complete monkey, was he?)
So quit bickering we all have different tastes in music.

Yes, and without knowledge of proper context, all I would have is a bunch of
words and definitions. I can string 'em together, but they won't necessarily
    make sense.

    ===========

    >what I'm trying to say is that besides knowing names for all these things,
    >you also learn a lot more than you would normally learn... do you think DT's
    >music would be as great if they didn't have such a great musical vocabulary?
    >they certainly go beyond the usual major/minor/seventh chords which is what
    >most people learn since that's what's mostly heard...

But knowing something, and knowing how to USE it are two completely
different things. Just like the dictionary, you can understand all these
concepts and still not be able to write music that anyone would want to
listen to. Conversely, you could write music that uses these concepts
despite being ignorant to the "vocabulary".

1200 baud, ah...the old days. Shit, I remember stepping from 300 to 1200 and
    thought "Wow, this is *screaming*"

..and I'm not even ancient or nuthin' - I just used old equipment. :)

The only place I found the CDrom was Tower Records. The CDRom contains the
entire movie, plus extra footage that was cut from the movie, as well as various
other videos, stills, etc. It is well worth the $30 if you're into Tap.

Wasn't me, but you can find it in the May '96 issue of Guitar World under the
    "Trends" heading.

from the latest _zia zine_ (an arizona record store):

blind melon has found a new vocalist: sebastian bachm formerly of skid row. in related melon news, a final album featuring deadguy shannon hoon is to be released later this year. it includes tracks recorded shortly before the singer's untimely death--not from drugs and alcohol, as previous reports indicated, but from asphyxiation resulting from looping a necktie over a joist in the tour bus, and hanging himself while masturbating--as well as "hotel" tapes made by hoon during the band's tour. in addition, a bootleg video of hoon and other band members is reportedly circulating amoung tape trading circles: it depicts the melon guys taking turns hanging with the necktie while whacking off.

i don't make up the news, i just report it

as for some real dt content, the big station here in the phoenix area, kupd (97.9), played perfect strangers about 45 minutes ago. at first i thought it just kind of happened. instead, they were just do a cover segment from "obscure" bands of somewhat famous to very famous material. doh!

the perfect example: SKID ROW... compare the first CD to the second... isn't it iroinic that a pretty ballad gave them the liberty to get heavier on the second?... and even heavier-er on the third?
