Could you please mail me the HTTP of your CD player page? My PC crashed some
time ago (faulty SIMMs caused W95 to eat dust) and I lost your CD player
software as well. I want to download it anew.

    To Patricia McLoughlin:

Thanks loads for the nice cards you sent after your Satch gig! It was much
appreciated, and the only reason I didn't mail you yet is that I don't know
your email address any more. Thanks, anyway! I've seen him at Bospop (bald!)

I'm back, in case anyone cared... While I was in Delaware (no sales tax? YIPPEE!!!), I located a copy of Genesis's cd, "Selling England by the Pound". I couldn't resist, and I love it. I don't really like Phil Collins, but Peter Gabriel's voice is really good. I have a ponder: If Gentle Giant is no longer a working band, how can they be considered progressive? I know the answer is obvious, but if you think about it, what isn't new isn't progressive; it's pioneering. My Genesis cd has some stuff that is before it's time, but it's still not progressive anymore. Think about it. Since I unsubscribed for my vacation, can anyone email me anything important I missed? (dates, clinics, concerts, cds, yadda, yadda, yadda) Thanks...

I'm behind in reading the digests, so I apologize if some of this has been discussed already. Has anybody besides me noticed that the word "Rush" can not be found anywhere on the front or back covers? (Correct me if I'm wrong.) All other Magna Carta tributes have the band's name on the cover. The factory sticker (I don't know what else to call it) that seals the top of the case just says "Working Man-A Tribute." Does this have anything to do with Rush's attempts to stop it's release? The album is exceptional. Someone mentioned awhile back that "poor Lerxt get his ass kicked." I disagree; Alex can stand up to all of those players. He is one of the most underrated rock guitarists (I think he's much better than people like Clapton and Page). Most of the guitar playing is great though. And James's vocals on "Red Barchetta" are magnificent. Sebastian Bach does alright also (I'm surprised he did a song like "Jacob's Ladder.") A few problems I have are with Terry Brown's mixing; you can hardly hear Jack Russell on "The Analog Kid". Also, I thought Billy Sheehan's bass wasn't prominent enough (compared to Geddy's on the actual recordings). Before I go, I'd like to let everyone know that I have obtained a video of the same Rush concert that is the source of Michael Bahr's Critical Mass. (It is pro shot). I don't know how common it is, but I'll copy it if someone can offer to trade me anything. Jeff Falk King_of_the_Nighttime_World@msn.com

Hmmm... I don't supposed one of the tracks you LIKED was the last one?? Steve sang that one. :)

Personally, though, I think S&R is my favorite Vai album.. no, Devon's ot the singer I would pick for my own band (I like LaBrie too much for that), but I do like his style.... what I kinda see as the problem was that the music wasn't hard enough for him... you gotta realise, this was a 19 (? - I think) year old INDUSTRIAL singer that Steve picked...

Thanks to everybody who recommended Working Man. It's as good as a tribute album could be. Now if only I could see Sheehan and Portnoy together on stage!

One comment to whoever said that George Lynch overplayed: I don't see it. He just sorta played sloppy and went off through the whole song. It sounded right to me for an old '70s tune.

True, Rush would never have played it that way. To me that's the point of a cover--to hear a song played in a way the original artist would have never attempted.

There are two solos on the disc that *do* sound overplayed to me.

The dude from Symphony X goes way out on a limb on Analog Kid . Kinda cool sounding, but not really in keeping with the spirit of the song. Who the heck is Symphony X anyway? Anybody here know? I wouldn't mind checking out their original material. I also thought that Marcel Coenen dude had too much fun with Free Will. Where's he from? Both of those guys butchered the songs, but are such good technicians that I want to hear more.

    Hi all!

This is my first post to the Jam, and I just had a few things I wanted to say after lurking for a few months.

First off, I'm glad that DT is a band that has been good about releasing live material. LATM and the extra tracks on ACOS in particular. I am also a big Rush and Yes fan, and while these bands have released live material in the past, it has been sporadic, and sometimes the releases contain the same songs. True both of these bands are to release live albums within the next year or less, but they are few and far between. I have oftened wondered why bands don't offer a full live tour after the tour as a "snapshot" for those who missed it, or for those who want to relive it. I'm glad DT seems that they care enough about their performances and fans to want to release live stuff in a timely manner. After all, it can't be too costly. So, here's hoping for a forthcoming video or CD from DT, perhaps containing new material and some from the Awake tour, when the '97 tour starts. Till then Mike Bahr's CDs will have to do...

Second, I am curious about FW. Anyone tell me if they think I might like them? As I mentioned, I like DT, Yes, Rush, and King Crimson, to name those at the top of my list. I look for strong melodic structure, and just pure power too, so that may give you and idea of why I like the groups I do. I really admire James LaBrie's voice as well as Jon Anderson's. So, given that can you reccommend a possible good first FW album?

Thanks in advance and take care all!

    Joseph

Hello everyone, just wanted to post that I have some extra shirts from the last round of Dream Theater/Ytsejam shirt orders I did. These are the last there are, and I MOST LIKELY will never order anymore. I have left:

1 Navy XXL 3 Black XL 1 Large Black Tanktop

and that's it! As you can see it is not much, so if you want one, I suggest you write and tell me which one ASAP! Here's the relevant descriptions:

OK Shirt fans! It seems there is enough interest to test the waters more for another shirt order. After speaking with the shirt company about minimum orders, it looks like we need 50+ orders to make it worthwhile. So, here's the info, please send in your requests for shirts now, and if I see we're going to make the 50 mark, then I'll then instruct everyone where to send the money, etc.

For news on Tank Tops, see below!

Design ( front ): Majesty symbol in white ink, with "Ytsejam" on top in script font, and "INTERNET MAILING LIST" in small block letters beneath.

Design ( back ): Large white DREAM THEATER logo in white across the top, with Let the Light Surround You across the bottom in greyish GLOW IN THE DARK ink.

This shirt is now being offered in FOREST GREEN, BLACK, MAROON, and DARK NAVY. I cannot guarantee that this design will look good on any color but black! (of course, "good" is completely subjective).

Sizes Available: M, Large, XL, XXL (+$1.50), XXXL (+$2.00). Dark shirts tend to shrink more than light colors, so if you are on the edge of a size, order accordingly!

Fill out this form and return it to jgiles@crl.com:

    Name: E-Mail Address: Mailing Address:

Qty Size Color --------------------------- 2 XL DK Navy

Also, is it because of Rush's legalities that the word "RUSH" appears nowhere on the outside packaging of "Working Man: A Tribute" ?

They're simpler, but very excellent writers and musicians. Also, we don't have the RUSH tribute album in Oklahoma City yet. Awaiting its arrival.

    Dear jammers,

Hey there! Here's an update for the YtseCon III! First of all, it will take place at the La Guardia Marriot (Queens, NY), on Saturday, October 12th from 1pm to 5pm. We have spoken to Dream Theater and management, and they say that they should be there.

The cost for pre-paid tickets is $20 per person. The cost at the door will be $25 per person. This will cover the cost of the conference room and other miscellaneous stuff (name tags, programs, etc.). If you would like to pay in advance, please send a check to:

YtseCon III c/o Jeff Chew 350 Broadway, Suite 703 New York, NY 10013

When you send a check, please include a note or letter that says your name, return address, e-mail address, and phone number. This makes things a lot easier for us when we send the tickets back to you, plus if we ever need to get in contact with you.

Due to the lack of reservations, we have decided to return the block of 75 rooms to the Marriot. So, we have arranged it so that you can contact the Marriot through their 800 number. If you need a room, call the La Guardia Marriot at 1-800-882-1043. *REMEMBER TO TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE GOING TO THE "DREAM THEATER CONVENTION"*. If you need to find someone to split a room with, the staff is still doing that (well, Greg is), so you can contact him at grc8@columbia.edu.

If you plan on flying to the YtseCon III, we have arranged something with Rich Worldwide Travel so you can reserve airline tickets through them by calling their 800 number. Please call 1-800-431-1130, and tell them that you are going to the 'Dream Theater Convention'.

If you can provide a ride to the YtseCon III, or if you are in need of a ride, please contact me by either e-mailing me or calling me and I will see what I can do.

Well, that is all there is for now! I hope to see you at the YtseCon III!

    Yours, Jeff Chew =)

I have a solution for the people who are upset by the non-DT talk on the Jam. Assuming this gets through (I haven't seen a jam in a few days) I'm going to be setting up a mailing list for progressive music. Through a weird connection I got a free domain name (prognosis.com). It's in the registration process right now, but I hpe to have the list up by the end of the week. This would be for any progressive music related discussions, and of course, it's FREE.
