Do WHAT in bare feet? Oh yeah - cross the road, sure we can do that. I

    >I have been a RUSH fan since King Tut ruled Egypt. now, all this RUSH
bashing is really starting to get old and annoying.

Who'sbashing Rush? I happen to love Rush. That doesn't mean I have to agree
with everything they do. I happen to think what they're doing by giving
Magna Carta such a hassle over Working Man is really fucked and they should
be told that. Living in America I know what a pain in the ass it is to have
to get cd's and LP's from other countries because they weren't released here
(ie. Live at the Marquee) and so making Canadians have to get the CD's from
here and risk having them confiscated at the Post Office as contriband is
uncalled for an inexcuseable. Especially considering they ARE a Canadian
band and were popular there years before getting success in the rest of the
    world.

    >first and foremost, they have NOT sold out! they have EVOLVED.

That's your opinion and your entitled to it. My opinion is they sold out,
and I'll probably always feel that way. That said, I have EVERY Rush album
    released and a few boots.

    >you think RUSH'd still be around today at all if all they kept writing is 20
    >minute epics? that would be selling out; just doing the same old thing that

    >as Geddy was said, "it has become easy for us to write long complicated
    >pieces of music, therefore, it pointless to do so...". it was more of a
    >challenge for them to write shorter songs. and Neil's lyrics also got more
    >concise.

I read an article about two years ago where Geddy said they didn't write
long songs anymore (ie Cygnus) because it was too draining on them.

Anyway. I love Rush and will go see them when they come to town. I'll get
the import vinyl of TFE since they won't make it on LP here in the States
(the last USA vinyl was Presto). But I rerally wish they would reconsider
    their position on Working Man.

Dale I agree, I mean ACOS was enough to keep me a dedicated listener,
and I firmly believe that DT aren't commercial enough to have to worry
about compramising the quality of their music to meet a timely release
date. Atrue fan should appreciate the fact that they are in this for
the music not the $$$$$. And yes, I don't think it's been that long
since the release of awake. I am a big time Metallica fan, Nothing
against them but LOAD is a sub-par attempt for them but then again they
have big-time commercial success now so anything they do is going to be
    big. Keep Rockin'

Call it what you want. I think it's more than a coincedence, the way
the music changed when the money came in. And I don't care if DT
LOVES Rush or even Gorky Park... that doesn't mean ANYTHING to me.
Friedman, one of my favorite guitarists loves Uli Roth.... whom I can't
STAND for the life of me because of his vocals (his playing is great).
Some people love Buddy Guy, and coming from Chicago, I think he
sucks. But that's my opinion. And just because it's good enough for
me, doesn't mean it's right for you. Just as DT's opinions are
pretty meaningless to one who makes his own mind up.

This sounds like trend following to me. But I already said, I think
some of their best material occurred after the point at which I feel
    they sold out.

    > the fact remains that RUSH doesn't get the airplay they
    > deserve. if you heard a RUSH song every hour, like a friggin' STP song, then
    > they'd be a sellout, but you don't.

Really? Do you live in Chicago? I hear Rush CONSTANTLY on the
radio. Test for Echo IS being played once every hour as a gimick on
weekends on 103.5. I also frequently hear Rush on 105.9, the classic
rock station. I'd say in Chicago, in the evening, if you take a 1
hour car trip you have a 75% chance of being able to find Rush on the
radio. At least right now. I noted on the jam that i heard
Chronicles in it's entirety on one of the big stations about 3 weeks
    ago.

But I will let this thread die, if this is getting too tense for you,
or is making you too mad. Don't perpetuate a thread if it bothers
    you.

Does anyone know of a place to pick up spocks beard besides ordering the
    cd directly from the band?

I dont really have a problem with that, but I really hate waiting! :)

(grumbles something about needing a prog. music store in so. cal)
