Did anybody catch the Rush question on the new gameshow "Debt"? (last week)

The question was something like this - "Progressive rock band that features
    the member Geddy
Lee" - a contestent answered correctly.

One of the few national TV comments I've ever heard about prog music. Does
    anybody have
    any other instances?

Personally, I think DT should play on Letterman! or Portnoy sitting in for
    Anton?
That would be a nice change of pace.

My opinion is that if we are getting albums like I&W and Awake I don't mind
waiting some extra months. Don't know about you guys out there but I get
totally taken away when I get their new albums (read Lock me in in my room
and play nothing else for at least a week.) My friends calls it crazy and
can confirm ,but for me there is no other music that interest me in those
    moments.
And when there are lives, bootlegs (esp. yours MBahr) I can live it thru'.

Still if the album is something like Met's LOAD , dunno...

and, while I'm talking 'bout nothing of DT.
Just saw the hockeygame Canada-Russia again, and I feel sach a rage 'bout
you canadians. Guess you are all feeling kinda ashamed about it, since the
ref. stole a cristalclear Russian victory , by making hordes of odd decisions.
How is it possible having a canadian referee in Canada while Canada is
playing, especially when he's a lousy one. Hope the rest of the tournament
will be fair, and justice will conquer (i.e. Gold for Russia), even though
I'm a Swede, but under these circumstances, I settle for silver.

My apologies for not remembering the names of the persons that
      brought this to my attention.
There has been some use in describing the work of some artists
as self-indulgent, mainly referring to their products lenght. (Some
Rush and DT songs. There was even referral to ACOS in some article.)
Now this kinda pisses me off. Music is art. Artists try to create
their OWN visions. What has anybody else have to do with these ? So
ofcourse they're SELF-indulgent, just don't make it sound like a bad
      thing.
It is different in popular art of course (I'm NOT trying to say
that is not art), where artists try to create visions that appeal to
large number of people. In prog music it can be seen that bands lean
(or try to) more into not-so-pop sound.
So once more: If artists create their on visions, where does self-
      indulgence come from ?
In classical music this has been accepted long time ago (propably
due to it's age). Looks like we have a long way to go still.
And damn sure it's my opinion ! =)

            Take care all!

            Karri
            kkiviluo@cc.hut.fi

PS. And if you're thinking of quality decreasing as the lenght
increases: Have you ever really listened to the damn songs ? =)

Nooooooooooo!!!! Don't dub Kev's demos. That's evil. If you want one, get it from Kevin himself so that he gets the money for it and stuff. Don't you think that makes more sense?

Kev's e mail is ChromaKey@msn.com and his web page is http://chromakey.com If you want to order a demo though, all you have to do is send a check for 7 dollars plus two dollars S&H to

I have the tape and I like it very much. It's really not worth screwing Kein over just to save a couple of dollars.

    Hey everyone,

Just a little comment here. It's good to have some messages included when you reply, but constantly including old messages, and old replies makes for a very long YTSEJAM digest. Maybe if we just referred to the person who posted in the subject, then we can be more succinct in the digests.

Also, another good rock group, who's latest release is modestly dissappointing is the "screamin' cheetah wheelies". At least w.r.t. their first release (1993), it was excellent. I still haven't fully and carefully listened to the last release (this year), but it appears to lose some of its jamming edge to it. Also, a while back, before I got booted off the subscriber's list, due to domain changes in our university's e-mail, I mentioned the group "Leviathan". Anyone hear of them, or know about their music? They personally thank Dream theater in the credits. Also, their music is extremely precise and accurate, similar to DT. Much odd-time in many of their songs, so if anyone knows more about this group, let me and others know. I only have 1 release, called "Deepest Secrets Beneath" (I think). I would like to know of more of their releases, b/c they are excellent!

It may be a little late to get in on the "Rush Bashing" ...but I figure I should put my 2 cents in.....

I've been a Rush fan for a long time!!! even longer than D-Man...... I enjoy the bands music...and I've enjoyed what ground they've covered....Yet sometimes I loose interest in the group, and stop listening for a couple months....geez...I brain farted so badly this past week that I had to call Chris Merlo and ask him what album came between Presto and Counterparts. That doesn't affect what I have to say about them, though....

Someone on IRC, about 2-3 weeks ago, said something that we should all take into consideration. Listen to "Spirit of the Radio" and hear that they say about 'freedom of music' ..... Ever time I hear that....it turns my stomach. ...Rush is seriously loosing it's integrity......It's the fault of the management.....Sure....SRO Management may be responsible for swaying Rush to this.....but Rush makes the final call........that's an integrity problem...and it has affected my interest in the group.... As a result...I WILL NOT purchase this album until it has been in release for exactly a week.....hopefully....enough of us will do the same....to WARN Rush that they should listen to us (the fans) a little more than worldclass cluster-fucker and manager Ray Daniels....

A little side note about Ray Daniels.....he has effectively destroyed Extreme and Van Halen.....If Ray can bring down the almightly Van Halen.....I think Rush should reconsider who calls the shots in their music.

On a totally unrelated side note....I'm gonna play golf in Hurricane Edwuard!!!!!

    Hey, Kids.

So, i'm sitting here listening to the King Crimson box set "The Great Deciever", which is a 4 cd set of live recordings from the "Starless And Bible Black" tours. This is amazing material. The interplay between Wetton, Bruford, and Fripp is just amazing. I can't say enough good things about this thing, and if you like the crimson, this is a _DEFINATE_ pick up, no matter _WHAT_ you pay for it.

In responce to Charone's post about the Kevin Moore stuff, lemme clarify: i'm not taping Chromakey. The last thing I wanna do is get in the way of Kevin's profits, and besides, he deserves to get every penny. i love the songs, and hopefully he'll do more stuff like it. What i _WILL_ tape for people is the "Music Meant To Be Heard" stuff, since not alot of people have it, and i do. Why not spread the wealth?

Crimson's doing a song called "A Voyage To The Center Of The Cosmos", and it's freakin' me out. It's creating an atmosphere in my room which is kinda strange. It's sick, but beautiful.

I haven't posted in a while, so just to settle the rumors, I have NOT dropped off the face of the earth. (yet) I have a few questions and ponders. First, what does Van Halen have to do with Dream Theater? I didn't see them as being relevant enough to recieve the amount of attention that they are getting. Don't kill me, it's just a thought. Working Man has turned up in my area twice that I know of: I bought one and a friend of mine located a copy. Guess it's been shipped, eh? I do like it, but it's a bit overrated. Sean Malone does an awesome job of 'Red Barchetta', though. I was wondering: what Ozric Tentacles and Gentle Giant albums should I look for first? I've heard cool stuff about Ozric, but I don't know anything about Gentle Giant. And that just about wraps it up for me, folks. What is the song 'Afraid of Sunlight' about?

OK, I'm gonna take you up on that, too! (jeez, why didn't you just leave this stuff in your messages?) :^) But, hey, since I know that Awake is already the best album of all time, what is different about the Japanese version? I apologize if this is common knowledge . . .

    To Chris Ptacek:

Thanks for the kind words about our last trade. I would like everyone to know that YOU are a helluva guy - you shipped the CD's BEFORE getting the money. Not many people are that trustful! I got mine 2 days after confirming the deal via E-mail. And that's why I put a little "extra" in the envelope - cuz U RULE!

Speaking of trades, I'd also like to vouch for Tim Lodge - he did indeed send me the DT InstruMENTAL II CD as promised. I have yet to be burned by anybody on this list! Kudos (the M&M kind) to Tim, Chris Ptacek, Scott Cook, and Jason Skewes! Mike Skoog wrote:

Well, his wife usually has to pick it up off the bathroom sink after he trims it - sorry, couldn't resist!

Sheeeeeeeeeesh! (TM Ben Lassuade 1996) First Steve Johnson gives us the AutoReply BS, then THIS guy who's been dead for 29 years anyway starts bitching that he got too many Jams! What's the Net coming to? And how the Hell (oops, sorry Carson) did he send this?
