Hey, does anyone know the address for Saturday Night Live? Why don't we try
to get DT on? (drink). SNL is in a definate decline, and they have shitty
unknown bands on all the time, so why shouldn't they have a talented unknown
band on for once? Also, to whoever suggested we try Conan, why not? 1)They
support prog-King Crimson was on a few months ago. 2)I think that Conan has
heard of DT-Would they be allowed to use those samples in SDV without
    permission?

Okay, everyone. Its time to elect the KING OF THE YTSEJAM! The two highest
contenders are Bafu and Ben Laussade, but you can write in anyone you want.
Send your vote to me privately with a subject of "vote" and I will announce
the winner on Friday or Saturday (or Sunday).

Hey guys, I don't exactly follow what the idea is with the
recording threads but this is how it works when your in a
    studio.

Drums always ALWAYS have the most mics, so most of the time,
the first 20 channels are for the drums only, depending on how
    big your set is.

The bass will take up maybe 3 channels. 1)DI-Direct Input 2)2
mics from the amp itself and yes, some people use 2 mics for
    bass amps.

Guitars, only 1 or 2 mics, no more.

Vocals-depends, 1 mic for sure, 2 or 3 group mics for big
    groups back-up vocals.

The first thing to get done is to lay down the drums tracks
with the WHOLE band, then bass or guitar, usually rythm
guitar, leads are almost always last. Once thats done,
everyone else just plays along to the drum trax, either that
or the entire band will take the song and play it all at the
same time and TRY to get the song in one take.

DT didn't do this, they do everthing seperately, I noticed
this after watching Live In Tokyo.

Stuff like Keyboards and percussion are done last, they aren't
    as important.

SO, it goes drums, bass, guitar, vocals. Thats how its done in
most places. A great example of this can be found on
Megadeth's Youthanasia video called Evolver. ANy other
question, ask please. I sorta do this for a living and I've
been in the studio a few times myself for demo's etc...

I'll be the first one to admit, I thought this whole drinking game thing
was funny, THE FIRST TIME!!! I mean, enough is enough. I've been on
this list for a while now, and when I first began to receive it, I
thought it was by FAR the best list. I am on the Rush and Marillion
lists as well, and I always found that in the Rush list, all they ever
talked about were their favorite songs or albums, and the Marillion list
seemed to be very technical, but informative. The jam was always the
coolest, because there was talk about the band, the Ronnie Scotts show,
cool songs for Dream Theater to cover, reviews of shows and bootlegs, a
lot of opportunity to trade, etc. But now, this list is the WORST list I
am on. I really do appreciate some of the posts which are very helpful
to me. I never would have listened to Fates Warning, Kings X, or
Savatoge without this list. I would never have received a copy of WDATU,
which is probably to a lot of Dream Theater fans, the ultimate bootleg.
But if the band really does read these sometimes, I am embarassed for how
far this drinking game thing has gone; but hey, I guess there isn't
anything better to talk about....Does anyone have any idea how many less
people are reading this list now, I am just curious. To those of you who
will write in, quoting me and tearing apart my post, comment by comment,
I am subscribed to the Metropolis list, which has yet to come out. It is
really hard to keep up on current Dream Theater news, so this is really
the only way. Skipping through all the moronic posts is fairly easy, so
I will continue to do that. But I think of it this way: When I read the
original drinking game post, I laughed, and thought of a million more of
them. I figured everyone else did, too. It was a funny post with funny
punchlines, but the punchlines are over.

Just thought I'd relay a story that shows the kind of influence the 'jam has
had on my music purchases. I went to a CD show today, mostly looking for DT
boots. I didn't buy any, but I bought three other CD's:
Shadow Gallery - "Carved In Stone"
Galactic Cowboys - "Space In Your Face"
Dixie Dregs - "Bring 'Em Back Alive"
None of these are bands I listen to regularly, but all three *have* been
mentioned on here at one point or another.

You people are a bad influence. :) Okay, back to the Tori Amos/falsetto-jam.

Ok, I know this may be getting annoying, but I'm still looking for
a copy of the original "Subconcious" on CD. If anyone can help me with this
and can give me a FAIR deal(I know how collectable it is, believe me)
    PLEASE e-mail me personally.

Also, I'm still looking for a copy of the Japanese ACOS with or
without the limited edition single of "Tears," but preferably with. Later

    Greetings jammers!!!

This is my first post on here, so I guess if you play the ytsejam drinking
game, TAKE A DRINK! (I'll pass...did enough of that last night) I just LOVE
that purple bag that comes with Crown Royal! And by the way, you guys drink
    some WEIRD stuff...

I took the advice of a recent post and bought Chasing Time. Although
skeptical at first, I was pleasantly surprised! I'd recommend it to any
DT fan. I'm at PURDUE UNIVERSITY, and I'm wondering if any of yon
ytsejammers are here, or near here, or have heard of here! I need reassurance
that there's more than one of me on this campus! Does anybody know how
many jammers there are? Are we hundreds or thousands strong? Millions?
(Yeah right...there aren't that many smart people in this world)

As for all these comparisons shooting around, who cares? Either you like
the music or you don't! I'm not going to hate DT because somebody has
convinced me Alex Van Halen is better than JP! Ain't gonna happen...

Well, for my 3 dinars worth, RUSH/DT would rule, but they're better off
    going separately.

Well, I'm going off beat a little bit here, and out on a limb, too. My cousin
used to be the drummer for a band named S.S. ALEXANDER. It would have been
in the Chicago area about 5-8 years ago, maybe Florida too...has anybody
heard of them? If so, e-mail me because I'm curious...sort of a memory
kinda thing. He passed away recently (long story...ended up on Current
    Affair). Any help appreciated!

Burned out? You mean like when a star loses all its radiance? I'd almost
think you were referring to dark stars, but then again dark stars don't
have any radiance to begin with. Maybe you mean when a dark star goes
supernova, where the only radiance it knows is a brief flash as it
explodes into permanent nothingness? Yes, that would be "burned out."

And you sure would smell it.

(kidding, kidding, space is a vacuum, no one would smell anything)

First, I said throughout my posts that Derek was talented and could play very well. Second, I really do think his style fits the band. The age thing, I meant how old is he as in how long ago did he play with Kiss and Cooper, not saying he was old, just saying that I never knew his age. Is that really him in Wayne's World? And the whole gay thing was just a joke. I have no idea of the sexuality of any DT member, nor do I care. (I'm assuming JP and JL are straight, being they have wives, but you never know). They could be gay, or bi, or smoke crack, or shoot heroin, or whatever, and none of that would take away from their incredible talent. I have no personal vedetta (sp) against Derek. I sincerely apologise to Derek and any jammer I offended. later--------------Brian

Ben, you're dumb. Probably ate one of my evil black nachos.

Isn't it true that a CD player produces digital sound, therefore ALL CD music is played the exact same speed, despite the quality of your player? So although tape decks often have a varience in speed (and thus sometimes the music is slower and lower...) CD players physically don't have to deal with this. Of couse I'm not claiming that all CDs spin at EXACTLY the same speed, but the music that's being "read" isn't released right away. It's oversampled so that you get a nice quality sound from any player. Of course there are some CD players out there that have NO oversampling but I think they went out of style as quickly as Beta tapes did...

I'm not technical audio guru but I think I'm write. (Perhaps this topic might awake the sleeping giant, Hairball...)

So in the words of Jim Carey, Ben - you're "Wrong, Poopy-pants!"

In reference to Al Balkewicz, First I then Ben wrote:

    >>You're giving the 'Jam a very bad name. Especially by not saying anything. > >No...he's giving himSELF a bad name. What does the Jam have to prove to anyone?

True, but he's also tarnishing the 'Jam's squeaky-clean image of an enviroment where people can come in, trade and leave feeling like they have that "just showered" feeling. With jerks online like Al, people will hesitate to trade, not trust any and all jammers and probably resort to douching.

Now that I've got that out of the way...

I was wondering how many systems out there can't "Finger" an account. If you don't know what this is, I have this "status" thing of my account that I can change from time to time. If you type: Finger Glyde@vax1.mankato.msus.edu you'll see my name, stuff about me and my "Plan".

I'm asking because soon I'll be selling a DT bootleg I have and I was wondering if it would be fair to put the highest bidded price on my "plan". That way I could have a nice little online "Auction" without me telling everyone what price it's set at.

But if this "Finger" thing is not accessible to most people.. then I won't bother. I'm on a Vax machine so I don't know how up-to-date this stuff is, ya know? (Vax = old)

    Let me know, people!!!

What the hell was Allison Eng thinking? Magazines?? Howabout a rolled-up magazine to swat her a couple times?

I thought this was a pretty brutal story. I guess in Europe they have an equivalent to the American game, "Kick The Can," called "Kick The Cat." And Damon says I'M a twisted individual... :)

Can anyone tell me what such recordings would be called? Booty-bootlegs? Double-bypass bootlegs? Bahr-legs?

It WILL increase your sex drive. It WILL NOT add highlights to your hair. It WILL increase your falsetto range.

OWW! (winces, covers ears) Someone turn him off!

Geez, if my opinions angered me as much as Mojo's angers him, I'd probably stop thinking...

Synopsis: "If I think Tori Amos should fuck herself to get attention and sell music, it's MY FUCKING OPINION!"

    > Formal warning....back off man....

Hey Jason Giles, think you can make some wheel-flaps with a picture of Mojoman, encaptioned "Back Off" ?

    Good point.

    > Oh yeah, by the way, I'm writing this in falsetto. :)

    HAAAARHARHAR!!

(Adrenaline-Induced Advertisement: Everyone should go see "Rumble In The Bronx." It R-O-C-K-S. I'll be first in line when Nike comes out with the Air Chan cross-training/building-hopping/fence-scaling athletic shoe.)
