Hi everyone!
Now as someone (I assume it was Skadz) has liberated us from the
evil 'Mail Item etc...'- stuff and gotten me out of the doghouse,
I finally dare to open my mouth...Skadz, if you stop by here in
Finland, I'll buy you a beer. Any of our local beers tastes way
better than those fermentation bin washings you drink over there.
With the possible exception of Michelob. (IMO, of course)
My vote in the 'President of the 'jam' election would have to go
to Bafu because Ytse-Ben is a minor, and that prevents him to
work efficiently in any administrative position. Both Bafu and
Ben are equally warped (positive) and at least I would not have
as much fun reading these if either one was missing, so it's a
tough call to elect between them. The above serves as a plausible
excuse to make some kind of difference.
There's been so much babble about Mr. Sherinians sexuality and
Ms. Amos and other as unimportant topics that I'm starting to
wonder if any of the posting persons ever has anything better
to do that to deliberately raise waves in the 'jam....
When talking about this DT tribute thingy, has anyone thought of
the possibility of making a prog-rock symphony? The jam has a
shitload of musicians on it and that means tons and tons of
possible contributors. Some of the more acknowledged musicians
(Jay Peele? Bernd Basmer?) could compose the whole thing, one
part of the Ytsepopulation could make the required guitar and
bass tabs. The composer could tell the lyricists(sp?) what the
composition's theme is and select the best lyrics amongst the
entries for the final song. This way there could be multiple
drummers and percussionists and this means all sorts of neat
polyrhythmics. How would a wall of fifteen guitars sound like?
Or five sets of keyboards? Battle of two basses? A choir?
Just a thought.....
Has anyone thought out a competitive version of either of the
drinking games?
And for the ones wondering how to understand women, how's this
one? Back when I&W was the only DT CD I had, she loved every
song on it. When I bought Awake and she heard about ten first
beats of 6:00, she decided DT was too jazzy for her and has
refused to listen to any DT material (including I&W) ever since.
Now would any of the female jammers inform me what can this kind
of behavior be based upon? Any amateur psychologists out there?
Last week my local music store pissed me in the eye. They boast
that they can acquire any CD in the world just by getting the
record company label, band and CD title. I tested this and they
told me that they cant acquire Angra's 'Angel's Cry' bcoz it's a
Japanese import, and they had never gotten ANY information about
either Superior or Ivanhoe. Now I need a way to purchase these
CD's without having to pay International Money Orders. Bernd
Basmer has helped me concerning the Superior CD, but the other
ones would cost me about forty bucks apiece. That's too much.
Would any of the Finnish jammers (Karri K.K. or someone else)
be interested in making a group order of Angra's or Ivanhoe's
CD's?
As of how have I gotten into DT it happened when I was winding
through a tape of Headbangers Ball. As usual there was none of
my fave bands in it and I started rewinding the tape and hit
play when I saw some very agile keyboarding. What hit me in the
head was the drumwork. As everyone has guessed by now, the video
was TTT. I listened the drummer for a while and rewinded the
song to the beginning and listened it about a dozen times. Until
then I had been very convinced that there's no match for QRyche
on this planet, but my world hasn't been the same since. So don't
tell MTV is of no use. It got me into DT.
It seems this got a bit long. But on the other hand what's
bandwidth for if not wasting? Bye for now.

hi all
Brian, aka DreamNDay, recently asked who we would vote to be king of the Jam.
Bafu? No: too sane. Ben? No: too old. I propose the most frequent contributor,
everybody's friend, "RESPONSE at IBMMAIL". This guy doesn't vary his postings
much, but he is very persistant. All hail King RESPONSE!! But why be satisfied
with just a king: why not a queen too?
I promise this next bit will be my last contribution to the ytse-drinks game.
The ultimate booze for all true-blooded jammers has got to be the Metropolis
(so lime port). The answer was staring us in the face all the time, and we were
to stupid to see it. Did anybody realize that Ytsejam is not quite a palindrome
of Majesty? I must start taking the tablets again.
Moving on, we come to the next point that has been puzzling me (some DT content
here, folks). There is a lot of stuff posted here saying that Dream Theater and
progressive music in general deserve more attention and a wider audience, but
there is also a lot of stuff (sometimes from the same people) saying they want
the concerts to remain small and personal, thus making for a troop of exclusive
elitists who can still look down on the rabble who don't like/understand
demanding music such as that played by a lot of prog bands. Hm, looks like a
small dilemma or personality disorder there, nurse. Does anybody have a sensible
answer to this little teazer?
And finally, a positive note to end on. Somebody recently praised the fact that
there are a lot of music tips being thrown around on the jam, and that people
are getting to listen to new/unknown bands and music as a result of these tips.
I can only agree whole-heartedly. Without the jam I would never have heard of
Vanden Plas, Superior or Skyclad - keep those tips coming.
PS Does anyone know when "Dearly Beheaded" are going to release their album?
stay safe and happy listening

Jammers,
Just wanted to say that Trey's sweat shirts were underrated! I got
mine yesterday and they indeed turned out better than I imagined. I'm
wearing it to work today and getting lots of comments and am finding
out who the closet fans are :> I also have one of Jason Giles t
shirts and it too is quality stuff. If any of you haven't ordered a
shirt from either of these guys you're missing out. Next time you get
an opportunity, take it.
BTW, Ytse-Ben and Bafu Vai (my baby cockatiels I wrote about
earlier, not the real ones) are doing well. They're ugly as hell
right now but all baby birds are. When they're juveniles then I can
sell them and that will make all the sleepless nights worthwhile.
Later,
Wilmo

Hmm, let's see. In 10 years, I think that Dream Theater will have changed its name to Dream Theatre, to appease all the fans that can't spell. Their seventh album, "It's What's For Dinner," will include "Metropolis, Part IV: The Ytsejam Drinking Game and the #ytsejam Drinking Game." Derek Sherinian will have announced that he's bisexual and will have been replaced by Tori Amos. John Petrucci will have been replaced by Bafu Vai, since JP's going to be in prison for beating an old EVH to death with a JPM 400. They will have toured with Rush, but very few people will have liked it, even though they thought they would. Oh, and they will have gotten rid of EastWest, and signed with Prism Records.
Ok, now for a serious answer: I think that about four or five years from now Dream Theater will be what Nirvana was about four or five years ago. That is to say, everyone will be "discovering" prog-rock-metal-whatever because EastWest smelled the coffee and did a little promotion. And what they will be discovering is the new DT single, much the same way that "Teen Spirit" broke open the grunge scene. However, I also think that Dream Theater is going to ride the crest of that wave for a long time and not die out like Nirvana did. Rather, I see all the prog bands like DT, Fates, Shadow Gallery, etc., helping each other out. As for us, we'll still be around, 'jamming like always. Except some of us will probably be teleconferencing, instead of reading e-mail. And we'll probably be watching the band on this infernal metal box as well.
Then again, maybe they'll just go disco.

Hi everyone!
I actually heard Dream Theater on the radio last night! That has to be the first time since I used to hear PMU back... when the hell was that?
I recently found a metal station (thank the Lord!) here in Chicago. They're only on after 10pm, but it's a start. Anyway, they played Lie and LSoaD BACK TO BACK! Can you believe it? And they played the ZEP medley a couple of days before. I'm complelely in awe.
LSoaD contrasted nicely with the Motorhead they had played a few minutes earlier. :)
The station is 103.1 Rebel Radio if you're in the area.
Cheers! (since I actually spelled out DT earlier) Glenn

Im-HO, D T is the best band out there. My favorite album, is "Widadoo." And my favorite songs from that album are "To Whats Its," "El-Fagga," and "Oh-Mot." On their next album, "Eye and Double-ewe," there are some real killer songs like, "Oo-ah-g'm," "Wufuss," and "little." Highlights from Awake include "El-Soad," and "Amby." I just couldn't get enough of this band, so I went out and bought "Ay-Cose." Then I got on the internet and subscribed to the Ytsejam. I saw Bafu Vai's posts and I was "Rot-Flame-Oh."

Fates has lost Frank Aresti and has add Andre Corbin (Helstar) for the future tour. The new album will be out in early summer. The CD will have one song and will be 45 to 60 Min. in length.
