I don't want to review the shows I saw because, well, everyone else
has done a good job doing so. :) DT was splendid, fantastic, and
well-worth the drive up from Atlanta to see. Just a few comments on
    this-and-that.

    1. Absolutely wonderful to meet the other Ytsejammers who were at the
shows and at YtseCon II! There are too many to list and I'm sure
I'd miss someone if I tried, but everyone was amazingly cool. Of
course, you'd expect this from DT fans, since we're a cut above the
average mallternative rats, but still.... I'll have pleasant
    memories for years to come!

    2. Extra special thanks to Andy Keegan for selflessly putting us up
for the night and for helping me get my damaged glasses repaired after
the Malibu show; to Trey Allen for arranging YtseCon II, the shirts,
the stickers, everything; to Brandon "Stinkie" G. and Bafu Vai (as
well as Trey) for being really cool road-trip companions; Mike Bahr
and Jaison for being cool "hey-the-Roy-Rogers-is-closed" driving
companions, and, well, everyone deserved some thanks just for being
    cool. :)

    3. The motherFUCKING asshole(s) who handled the tickets for the Malibu
and Birch Hill shows should be hung, drawn, quartered and fried for
overselling the venues. Birch Hill is rated at 700 capacity; 2,000
tickets were sold. Folks, this isn't cool, this is dangerous; all our
lives as well as the bands' were put at risk. Care to speculate what
would have happened had a fire broken out? As it was, people were
being crushed against the stage barricade and at Birch Hill, I
just couldn't take it anymore; I went back by the bar (where it was
still hella crowded, just not life-threatening) and enjoyed the show
without worrying where to place my feet to avoid falling under and
being trampled. Dream Theater needs to play reserved-seat venues, or
at least insist that # of tickets sold not be triple the fire-code
    capacity.

    4. Backstage (and me without a pass, whew!) at the Malibu, Kevin's ex-
friend Rich Kern was there. When Mike P. asked him point-blank whether
that was him in "Dead or Alive" on SUBCONSCIOUS, Rich answered a bit
sheepishly "Yea, that was me." I almost wanted to get HIS autograph.
    :)

    5. James LaBrie confirmed they will play Atlanta the next time they
tour, so Southeast fans, don't despair. :) When I mentioned I was
from Atlanta, Derek observed sheepishly "Yea, I guess we kinda ignored
you the last time, huh?" He also mentioned he really likes Atlanta
and wouldn't mind staying two months here.

    6. Everyone from the band was amazed that I'd come from Atlanta to
see them. Uh, why, guys? DT is worth the time and the drive (but
that crowd press wasn't) and besides, others came from farther away.
    :)

    7. The Internet guideline for sig length is 4 lines (my newsreader
will reject anything I attempt to post with a longer .sig). Seems
like this is a reasonable guideline anywhere, and we could adopt that
    here, too.

Quotable quote (with apologies to Marillion): "Did you know this
    crowd is just totally Bafugazi?"

Once again, y'all were cool to meet. We need to do this again
sometime. I'm already checking into renting Atlanta venues.
    :)

    Dear jammers!

I have this very strange release with DT called "Skyway Of Nightmares". It's a live recording from Augsburg Rockfabrik 07.04.1993. The cd is 78 minutes long, and it contains the following tracks: Metropolis Part 1 - Fortune In Lies - Under A Glass Moon - Surrounded Ytse Jam - Another Day - Pull Me Under - Take The Time - Wait For Sleep and Learning to Live.

First of all I would like to know if anybody knows this cd? I thought DT never played "Another Day" live, it's this just an exeption?

    Man. Man ooohhh man.

I have decided that there is nothing worse than reading about how great a show was when you couldn't go to it and not being able to meet any Jammers. Well.....maybe getting run over by a backhoe and have yourself torn apart limb from limb and then have somebody pour lemon juice all over your wounds....BUT that's not the point. We really need to have a Western YtseCon when DT decides to do a show over here.

Am I the only one that thinks Perfect Strangers is a crappy way to end a show? I'd take Learning to Live over PF 8 days of the week (Sundays too!). I mean, gawrsh!

    >High points: > I got to meet Bafu and Mike Bahr. Neat bunch of guys. > I ate dinner with Hairball!!! He's a fuckin' trip. > I was literally at James's feet the whole evening. > DT played really, really well.

How is that possible? Was James not running around like a maniac that night? I don't know how he does that. I can't even walk and chew gum at the same time.

Can anybody recommend any scary music? I mean, if a song scares you, how can you NOT like it?

How come nobody's ever on IRC? Always empty there.

    G'day.

****short spoilers to save bandwidth**** Well, Brian, Jonathan, and Adam just left and it's quiet except for DT music. All the shows were great. We figured out that only 5 songs were played at all 4 shows. That's incredible.

    A quick breakdown-

El N Gee - first night. The long wait outside was the low point of the 4 shows. I'm glad we got that over with right away. Too bad they had to cut the set short.

Malibu and the Ytsecon- Both were great. It was a trip meeting every one and hanging out in line at Malibu. Rod and Jordan were great- too bad they only opened 2 shows. They played Scarred!

Birch Hill- AMAZING. Everything was the best it could be. It was like a total Ytsejam party, from getting booted from the diner to hanging with everyone after the show. A great set capped with Learning to Live. The sound was great right behind the soundboard ;)

El N Gee- second night- Kind of anti-climactic. Another different set. No ACoS, but they added a few solo spots. The lighting system went dead during the middle of Voices, so they had to finish the set with just one spotlight pointed at the middle of the stage. Still a great show.

That's my surface views on the shows. I hope to do it all again in '96.

    Andy

Whoa!!! Mega stuff right! That was one hell of a trip to New York! I'll have more to say later on it but this is my initial Whoa post.

First off, I have about ten bazillion messages in my mailbox... I've spent all morning at least trying to clear most of the oldest ones out. If you e-mailed me, I swear to GOD I will get back to you, just bear with me, please. :) Time is short and my letters are many.

Second off, THANK YOU to ALL of you Jammers I met at the con and hung out with, you all rule!! Such a warm welcome, it was like nothing I'd ever received in my life. I hope I didn't leave anyone out or come off like too much of a jerk to anyone, because I truly enjoyed meeting each and every one of you.

    Thidly and VERY importantly,

WHEN DREAM AND TODAY UNITE DISCS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like I imagined they might, they arrived while I was back east. I will be picking them up tomorrow from the printing plant. Shipments will begin immedately thereafter. I appreciate everyone's extreme patience with me in this, it has really helped me deal with the snafu that delayed them until now.

I have a few more things to say, but for the most part I'll post them later. One thing: some Jammer snapped a picture of me standing next to Mike Portnoy, so the rumor can finally be quashed forever. Though, it was pretty fun while it was around. :) Dream Theater was truly a class act. Even James, who I thought would be a jerk, was actually very cool to me all three times I spoke to him. He knew how rabid fans we Jammers were and now that he expected it, I think he dealt with it better. Portnoy was, as always, a complete gentleman. Petrucci was VERY cool considering some of the stuff people were asking him to sign (Wedding pictures!) and Derek went above and beyond the call of duty asking all us Jammers about the net and how to listen in. Only Myung was reserved, but that's to be expected. It's his way. Also! At the Malibu I met Rich Kern, who in front of Portnoy, confirmed for us that he did indeed do the voices on the Subconscious version of Wanted Dead or Alive. :)

For some reasons, there were a few Jammers in particular that I wound up hanging out with the whole time, I don't know why, just coincidence I guess. Chris Merlo, thanks for the armrest. Bafu, you were a blast to hang around with. Skadz... what can I say. Paul Cashman, hope I'll catch up with you in Atlanta, however briefly. Brian Cox, nice to see ya again, even without the goatee. Aw shit, there are STILL about twenty other people I want to thank right now, and then a few dozen more for saying hello... I'll try and remember to do them all later, but for now, a big thanks to Jaison John for letting me stay at his place and make a wreck of it.

Oh yeah, Chris Merlo and Jeff Chew... thanks for the RIDE. (grin) I guess sometimes plans just fall apart. Ah well. No sense crying about it now.

Although I froze my damn nuts off in New York, it was still a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thanks to all of you for being a part of it.

Sorry to do this but I was wondering if it was just me. In ACOS where James sings: "No matter what don't let him be let's feed upon his misery" does any one hear: "No matter what they take from me they can't take away my dignity!!!" "Because the greatest...."

sorry....please don't kill me....I heard it once when listening and now it haunts me everytime. I need help....bad.....but then again....so do all of you now.... 8P

    Sorry once again

    Take care all

Several Years ago, when I started driving I stopped listening to music through Headphones...and started to blast my car stereo.... When you blast your car stereo, you tend to loose certain qualities of the music.... So today for a change of pace, I sat down to listen to both IAW and Awake on Headphones..... I noticed a significant diference in the way the vocals were produced.... James' voice on IAW is doubled and sometimes tripled...( Im not certain on the tripling...but itsure sounds like it)

Its weird to hear a doubled Labrie...even though aparently weve been hearing it all over IAW....

Im guessing that the doubling was the choice of David Prater and not James....his voice is too damn good to double....but Prater is making a living so maybe he knows what hes doing....

    C ya Mojoman
