Does anybody know what up with the California band named Squick. They
are supposed to be an instrumental progressive rock band. Last time I
checked their web site, they said that they were busy working in the
studio for a fall release. I don't even know if their web page is up.
I heard they have a demo with one song on it. Anybody hear it and can
tell me what it sounds like?

Also another band named Process which I heard sounds like DT w/o the metal
crunch and Moore-influenced sounding keyboardist and Torman Maxt, a
    christian prog rock band.

    Thanks,

    Walter.

The sign in this advert is NOT from the actual Dream Theater in Monterey
which I saw in September and Jennie described as follows: - the

           ------READ EVERYONE------
Since everyone seemed to like the YtseCon shirts AND I am going to have to
have more made anyway, I am going to alter them and make some Ytsejam
shirts. The front will be like the back of the YtseCon shirts with a huge
correct Majestly symbol and the Dream Theater logo above it in white ink.
On the back, written across the shoulder blades will read:

                              --Ytsejam--
                Dream Theater's Internet Mailing List
                          ytsejam@arastar.com
                (small majesty symbol centered here)

There is a gif of what will be on the front of the shirts (this is also what
was on the back of the YtseCon II shirts) on my DT web page...check it
    out!!! http://www.ju.edu/UsrWebPages/tallen/home.html

NOTE: This is not the EXACT image that will be on the shirts. This one is a
little rough and the screen print place cleaned it up a ton (ie. looks
pixel-less or not from a computer. I think this one was scanned in w/o the
highest resolution) but it will give you a good idea.

    =======PRICES==========
All garments come in any dark colors (blue, black, red, purple, maroon, navy
blue, royal blue, forest green, etc.) and sizes S, M, L and XL. They will
    be printed with white ink.

                  ====T-SHIRTS====

    -----50/50 $14 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----100% cotton $15 (add $2 for XXL)

       =======SWEAT SHIRTS=======
--All sweat shirts are 100% cotton--

          -------Non-hooded-------
    -----7.5 ounce $18 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----9.0 ounce $20 (add $2 for XXL)

              ------Hooded------
    -----7.5 ounce $21 (add $2 for XXL)
    -----9.0 ounce $23 (add $2 for XXL)

SHIPPING = Add $3 per item...I know its alot, but complain to the US postal
    service!!!

I will throw in a free Majesty sitcker w/ every order. They are also sold
seperately for $1 a peice (no shipping costs). They are the same design as
the Majesty symbol on my DT page.

I am accepting orders today and will be for about 2 1/2 more weeks. Please
e-mail me and tell me what you will be ordering and send the money
immediately. Since I lost a little money w/ the whole YtseCon thing and DT
cancelling on us, I have decided not to order any of your shirts unless I
have your money in hand! So send, send like the wind!!! :)

Ben said it would be cool to play a song backwards at high speeds. Didn't
Z-Rock use that as a contest? I believe it was called "Back Rockwards", but
I'm not sure because Z-Rock went off the air here about a year ago and went
    all-70's :(

Hw also said only about three people on the jam had probably heard of Death.
So who are the other two? I think they're OK, but I wouldn't go buy their
album. Has anyone seen their video? Its a complete rip off of Pearl Jam. A
little boy with no shirt running through the woods. I think it was even on
Beavis and Butt-Head (Hey check it out! Ther's Jeremy! Yeah, Heh heh. And
he's still running!) I don't like the singer that much ( also from B+B, "I'd
like two tacooooooooooooooos and a small order of friiiiiiiiiiiiieeeees....to
    goooooooooo!")

There's been a lot of confusion on AD live. I have about 5 or 6 different
versions of this, and I could've sworn that I heard JP use a pinch harmonic
on the bend during the second solo (3:07 on the I&W version), and someone
told me I was wrong, so I went through all of the bootlegs I could get my
hands on, and none of them use a PH. Am I going crazy, or has anyone else
heard it as wel. If not, try playing it that way. It sounds pretty cool.

Is there a Journey expert who knows this album from which I have been told
'When The Love Has Gone' comes ? If so , was this album given a different
name in the UK as 'Dream After Dream' is not listed here. Alternatively,
what year was that album and perhaps I can locate it from that. (I am told
there is a great Neil Schon solo on it ). Thanks

Firstly...when I went to Illinois..I left my brother at my house with keys
for the four of you...He drove there from 6 hours away just to make sure that
you four were ok. PLUS I called every fucking hour till midnite to make sure
that you guys were able to get in the house...etc... I even left you a
hundred dollars for expenses. Sorry Elliot. Im not your fucking fairy god
mother..I have a life. And the fact that you have the balls to call and act
all loving to me less then ten hours ago shows me what a backstabbing loser
you really are. Sorry babe.. Im not stopping my life for you.
Just because my room mate wasn't your type...doesn't give you the right to
push it off on me. All I promised you ..was a place to crash. If that wasn't
good enough..then fork out the cash for a hotel.

    Hi ytsejammers!
I have a question to you all, concerning the overall sound-progress of DT.

Since "Awake" I think DT has made an effort to make more heavy riffs.
Awake and the new version of ACoS has got some pretty brutal guitar-riffs,
which you cannot hear in the same degree on IAW. Some of these riffs sounds
like if the guitar is actually tuned too low! I just can't see DT as a band
which are down-tuning their guitars! (and bass offcause).

Not that I don't like this new style, I was just wondering......

Hi everyone. I apologize right off for being a little late but I
haven't had computer contact in a while. This is another letter about
the Birch Hill show. It was my first show and I must say it was one of
the most incredible things I have ever been to. I want to say hi to
everyone I met, especially Brian, Ryan, and what's-his-name, the warm
    guy.
I have been a DT fan for a long time now but I could never have
imagined how incredible they are in person. It is rare to find a group
that can actually perform better live than recorded. A true measure of
ultimate talent. Now, if only I could get a recording of the show...
Of course they did get a hell of a lot of help from the crowd.
What an awesome group! Unfortunately, I missed the get together before
hand but everyone I met at the show was great. We should have some
type of monthly get together or something to just hang out and get to
know the rest of the great people in the world (DT fans!)! There were
a couple who could have used some help but hell, we can't win 'em all!
The best we could hope for is the death of the roadie, slow and
    painful!
Overall it was a fantastic night. I had a plane to catch and
missed them afterward but if anyone could fill me in on what went on it
    would be appreciatd.
[The concert reviews are in digests 1208 on--kbibb]
I will be at my regular address as of the sixteenth. The only real
question I have is when is the repeat performance? I can't wait, as I
am sure neither can all of you!
Have a great day guys and I will be back when have regular computer
service again. Until then, don't worry, there is always Dream Theater!

            Hehe,

well, i have more or less listened to the "chasing time" cd as i was
recommended, and i have to say............i'm a bit disappointed.

one thing for sure- i hear the queensryche influence.
i could swear there were times i thought i heard degarmo and wilton, and i
    heard geoff tate a lot.

not that i don't like queensryche- i absolutely love them. in my top 3 of
favorite bands (behind pink floyd and dt). there are some interesting prog
elements abound, but i also heard stuff that turns me off a lot.

i heard a little too much of that phrygian-y guitar solo melody that seemed
to stereotype that heavy metal genre (along with harmonic minor).
    zzzzzz........

who plays keyboards? that wasn't too bad.

some of tunes just seemed to be way too long (or at least feel that way). the
1st 2 songs reflect this opinion.

my general comment would be this: they are quite accomplised musicians, but
they (for my own personal taste) are way too queensryche-y for me to swallow.
if i want to listen to "rage for order", i'd pop THAT cd on. if i want to
hear chris degarmo (one of my all-time favorite guitarists), i'd pop on
    "empire" or "mindcrime."

someone (i think it was mr. bahr) recommended me king's x as well. i have
"gretchen" and "king's x." those are good albums, and quite progressive. and
just cause they're a trio, it don't mean they sound like rush. i like stuff
to be different, and i guess this is what lacked with fate.

oh well, maybe the galactic cowboys will be better. any other recommendations
on the modern prog thang that i should check out? please let me know. i am
committed to broadening my knowledge, however much i like or
    dislike.....thanks anyways, and see ya.

hope you're all loving the 4576243 feet of snow.

I can tell you that it was the MAPEX kit I was right up front and you
could see the mapex badges on the sides. Also I was at BH when they were
tearing down and went over to check them out. Still pretty impressive.
Also as for TAMA making his new shells. Mike uses shells that are just
slightly smaller then a normal shell diam. This give the drums more of
an atack sound. Hope that sheds some light for all the MP fans.

Yea! They're pretty cool!!! And the guitar work isn't too bad at all. I
however love the vocalist. He's no James, but as far as Death goes, I
prefer Chuck Scheulder (sp?) over anyone. I like him cause you can
understand all his lyrics even though it is very heavy and "deathy".

As far as Cynic goes...they have Death's old drummer and bassist...two
musicians who, I dare say, may even be better than Mike P and John M!!!

Um, maybe not the best advice. You'll go blind if you keep on, you know
    that?

Seriously, it's probably not the best way to address one's detractors.
Maybe just, "Tastes vary, what can you say?" or even a "Fuck off" if you
feel particularly defensive, as long as you keep a sense of humour about
it. Lots of people like Labrie's singing (even I, though I don't idolize
him as much as I did the rest of the band), so I don't think he's in
danger of feeling worthless. There's no reason to be rude about it.

    But everyone doesn't have a peachy-keen personality like I do, so *I*
    let it pass.

No hint of "Knife" at any of the shows, eh? Too bad.

("My friend, my friend, he's got a knife.")

You know, normally it's warm in Florida, but now the weather sucks. How
much does it suck? I'm sitting here typing and have no heat so I breathe
and it looks like I'm Doug in the "Dogman" video. "Give me a dollar
or give me fifty cents" ... just give me 50 degrees.

And Death is awesome. The band (solo artist), too.

This is an email directed not only to James Labrie, but every
other musician who has faced a critic.

Blah. That's what i have to say about critics. Mr. Labrie,
I believe you to be one of the best vocalists in music
today. I believe all of DT to be one of the best on their
respective instruments as well. Obviously, if you weren't a
great singer, you wouldn't be where you are today. I agree
with you. Anyone insulting your abilities are just "amusing"
themselves. Especially people that aren't even vocalists
             themselves.

I'm a classically trained keyboardist. I've been playing for
20 years. I consider myself a good player. I'm better than
alot of people, and there are alot of people better than me.
Even so, I wouldn't expect Derek to listen to any criticism I
would offer. For starters, i have none. I think he's great.

But that's not the point. The point is, who gives a shit
what people think? Are you playing music to please the
world? I don't think so. You guys are doing what you're
doing because you love it. If people like what you're doing,
(and people do), then great. If they don't, who cares. You
can't please everybody. I've always believed you should live
up to your own expectations and standards rather then
             everyone else's.

James, I believe Dream Theater will go down as being one of
the most talented bands in history. I wouldn't let a few
critcs get to you. These people know not what they do.

Just keep on doing what you guys do best..................

             Andrew

p.s. if anyone would like to discuss this further, email me
privately. if anyone would like to flame me, i'll have my
             torch ready to go...........

Hi! I've gotten some feedback on the Cygnus for $16.00 with any
other purchase offer. Well, the thing I want to clarify is that if you
have an order on tap for WDATU or Antiquities, it's 100% cool with me for
you to get the $16.00 Cygnus. I will send it WITH your other order, which
will sufficiently accomplish the decrease in overhead costs that make
such a price possible. Thus, if your WDATU order is less than #100,
please e-mail me before sending for a Cygnus off THAT order. (I've
packaged up to #100 and I'm sending them day by day.) If you were going
to order Antiquities anyway, this is an easy chance to get Cygnus.

All this MAY be too late anyway as about half the remaining
Cygnuses were immediately reserved at the $16.00 price. If you want any
number of the remaining ones, let me know! Take care all! :)

Hi again to all you Jammers out there!
And a special "Hi!" to all you keyboarders!

My question for you is: is there any synthesizer or keyboard you can
recommend for progressive rock/metal-type music? It should be able to
produce decent orchestration and E-guitar sounds (you know, for a
temporary replacement of a second guitar for example).
Any idea? I'm also interested in equipment other keyboarders use.

Any opinion about the new Roland XP-10? Reports sound interesting so far,
but of how much use is it?

    Thanks for your replies!!!

Whoa!! I just got digest 1221 and nobody except one guy replied!! I just
thought I had to reply now because of duty or so to say. We should not
let another day go by where only one person replies to the digest.

[There are 80+ posts in the queue (including bounces). I was at work until
after 1am and left for school early, so I wasn't able to process the queue.
One message was left in the queue from the previous digest and it went
out. The only other time single posts should go out is if there's a
     special announcement--kbibb.]

Any jammers out there from CA..?? specifically the central valley...near
Sacramento, Stockton Modesto area?? I really want some info an when DT
will hit CA again..!! I heard that DT was releasing a whole new album
sometime in March from a guy at the school's radio station(CSU
    Stanislaus) any truth in this???

[I've heard of a WDADU reissue in Feb, but the new album isn't rumored to
     be out until July--kbibb]

As to what some jammer said about Mike Portnoy being dropped or
something from Mapex..and Mapex not doing to well..I don't think
so..Mapex should be doing just fine they've got a killer list of
endorssee's from Portnoy to Cobham they look pretty killer...in fact ther
is a Mapex ad in the new Modern Drummer with Mike Portnoy in it...(Feb.
'96) Well, I could be wrong but I doubt it! later
