Before Christmas, Dutch Marcel Berkhout said he was trying to gauge
interest in a live Bospop Festival CD, featuring good quality DT, 70
minutes, including the new version of "A Change of Seasons". I wonder if he
actually got many reactions. I know him personally and I can vouch for the
fact that he's legit. I'll want one of the CDs for sure!

And I can't help but proclaim that I'd really want someone to do a good
bootleg 2 CD of the full Birch Hill gig. But, for now, a tape would do fine!

Hello all americans! Where are all non-americans on this list? Remember, it
is supposed to be a global network, isn't it? I'm from Sweden and is very
struck by a marked difference between american and european fans - you
americans are like the japanese; you want pictures taken of your idols and
feel like you're in heaven if you get to shake their hands or talk to them.
And then you say that's cool! Is it? Or is it childish? Now, don't kill me,
please! What is clear, is a clear difference as to what is cool behaviour.

About Steve B and the pen, which is an excellent example of the above. I
once travelled to England to attend the first WOMAD festival (1982). Peter
Gabriel - my idol at the time - walk out of a door and I was the first to
spot him. I ask for an autograph which he kindly gave me. Then all these
other people come along and I left. At that night's concert - which
started with a chinese opera act - I was at the back, leaning to the wall.
I suddenly found Peter G standing beside me, watching the show. It struck
me that he never gave me my pen back. I smiled to him and said: - You stole
my pen earlier today, mr Gabriel. He took it very seriously and started to
apologize, he felt soo sorry! Well, a pen isn't everything we agreed after
a while. And of course it isn't.

Bye for now (and by all means; feel free to defend your ways!)
    Stefan

    Hi all,

In the last Ytsejam I got, someone said that all four of DT's east
coast club shows were taped. If anyone has a tape of the Malibu
show, please e-mail me; it would be a great service to me if I could
find a tape of that show. Thanks.

I realize that at this point copies of the holiday shows are scarce, but
would like to attain one if it's at all possible. I'm looking for either of
the four shows (preferably Birch Hill). If anyone has them, e-mail me and
I'll show you what I have to offer. I'll even trade double the amount of
blank tapes if I have nothing of interest. Here's the address:

I met so many ytsejammers, I just HAD to spew out my impressions so that you, my fellow Dream Thespians, may glean some sort of description for your wonderings of who is typing what! The people I drove up with were Brandon Ghioto, Trey Allen, and Paul Cashman, just so you know because I know you want to know. And don't do what Johnny Don't does.

Anyway, here's what I learned/observed about a few of my fellow 'jammers:

Brandon Ghioto has a very fast reaction-time, especially when he's driving a car and is less than a hundred feet away from an upcoming necessary exit, and needs to cross over four lanes of highway traffic. Not only does he react, but he succeeds. Maneuvers such as this one had me feelin' kinda spooky. It was also entertaining watching him hit on Marcy, the waitress in the diner we stopped at in New Jersey on the way home. (though I think the unusual tension present may have been the two of them marvelling at each other's accents.) Brandon is the proud owner of Maroon Ytsecon Shirt #1.

Trey Allen, while he does not play the drums, enjoys drumming inside moving vehicles with real sticks, usually along to what happens to be playing on the stereo. But unlike most wannabe-drummers who stick with hard, reliable surfaces like seats and dashboards, Trey has a tendency to go all-out and assault the windows to expand his percussion-palette. His sudden, rapid fills on the windshield made the whole trip north kinda spooky.

(It should be noted that Brandon and Trey had their own language at times. This speech was reserved for referrals to interesting pieces of music, alluring women, and good Florida food that they missed.)

Paul Cashman got all of my obscure movie references, as did I his. He turned out to be older than I thought he was, but I guessed his age to be within two years of what it actually was. His constant utterings of the word "danger" allowed We Of The Car to instantly know that we were in a dangerous situation. It became clear after much of this that the driver was well aware of when we were in danger, and wished Paul would stop saying that word.

Heath Augustover was just as straightforward in real life as he is on IRC. I saved him after the Birch Hill show by providing support, literally. He looked as if he were about to pass out. He seemed kind of tough, and I'm glad I didn't end up having to fight him.

Speaking of tough, I also met WildKoba, aka David The Magical Kobayashi. We got along just fine during the whole minute we communicated in line at the Malibu. He looked like he could really hurt brains if he wanted to. :)

Andrew Keegan turned out to be older than I thought he was. This man knows his pizza, and he knows the correct pronunciation of "Neopolitan." He's also got one of the largest music/boot collections of any person I've ever met. I was allowed to sleep in his domicile for one of the evenings with several other 'jammers. For his benevolence we are all eternally grateful. (this empty spot right here^is roughly what I slept in at Andrew's house, at the time nicknamed "The Bafu Alcove.")

Scott McCammon (Tolk) I don't remember much about, but he smiled when he shook my hand, so I guess I haven't pissed him off. Yet.

Jeff Chew (Hunt 'N Kill) and Greg Chew (Jeff Chew's brother) met Trey, Brandon, Paul and I at the Econo Lodge and attempted to provide entertainment by taking us to the local Q-Zar, which was unfortunately closed when we got there. Greg (or Jeff?) is the proud owner of Maroon Ytsecon Shirt #2. At the Malibu show, I was amazed at the Chews abilities at maneuvering to the front of the crowd. Nicknames abounded for these guys, from "The Frog Brothers" (The Lost Boys) to "The Chewbaccas" to "Hunt and Kill," despite the fact that this is exclusively Jeff's Net-Alias.

Adam Marshall did a good impression of Andrew Keegan while trying to dry his laundry. Neat accent they got up there, eh, Adam? Otherwise, Adam had an aura of sarcasm about him at times. It meshed well with mine.

Ross Spector (Thrak) ended up next to me when the moshing started up at Malibu. "Which one do you think is Toxic Waltzer?" he asked. Cool guy, but a bit too quiet.

Mike Bahr turned out to be much younger than I expected. He gave a brief lecture at the Ytsecon on the Principle Stage-Motions Of James LaBrie. (It was all videotaped, so expect to see bootlegs popping up soon!) He ran the gamut, from "The Vibrato Hand," where you extend your fingers towards your face and shake your hand wildly to match the vibrato of your voice, to "Calming The Waves," where you wave an outstretched hand from left to right, as if you're smoothing out the crowd(be sure to rock your body from left to right to follow your arm-motion). He was a really cool guy, despite his evil Magic cards that he brought to the Ytsecon...

Lurker spoke very quickly, and had a lot to say. Soon he will come out of lurker-mode, or so he said. He and I had a few magnificent verbal-sparring sessions, as anyone in line at Birch Hill can verify. Lurker made comments like, (in reference to Portnoy) "He can't sit still. He feels a need to cram every inch of music with some kind of noise. He's just busy, he's not good," and (in reference to LaBrie) "I judge a vocalist on his ability to perform live, and James...can't." I wondered why Lurker was going to the shows if he detested two of the band-members. He also asked me how I could like Extreme and not like Rush. Shortly afterwards, someone in the crowd to our right could be heard to exclaim in mockery, "You like Garth Brooks, but not Metallica?" Overall he was a great guy. He is quite the backstage stuntman, as I think he had signatures of every member of DT, their manager, their roadies, even a few of the groupies from the other shows he had been to. ;)

Rachel Goldenberg (Wisha) was just as friendly in real life as she is on IRC. She is and always will be Wisha. :)

Bafu Vai shook the hand of everyone he met and was greeted with many smiles. It seemed like a normal guy, not the insane psycho he is portrayed as/makes himself out to be on the Ytsejams. He took a few pictures and cracked a few jokes, and also hooked up a few people with backstage passes at Birch Hill. It was lots of fun screaming "BAFUUU" during the shows and watching him try to hide himself. During the Birch Hill show, he could be seen making hand-shadows on Petrucci's face from the bright spotlights. A shadowy hand would suddenly appear, stroking Petrucci's beard and cutting the hair on his shoulders. Heck, at one point the shadowy fingers even started flailing away on Petrucci's guitar. He is the proud owner of Maroon Ytsecon Shirt #3.

Chris Merlo (The Digital Man) was hilarious. A true ytsepal. Luckily I was able to send a mole into the Malibu club during the letting-in of the long line to inform Chris that my driver's license was in his car and I would not be able to enter the club if I didn't have it. Had it not been for Chris' speedy feet, I would never have gotten into that place. He cruelly tempted me by shouting (from the line at Birch Hill) that Jennifer Aniston was in the line with him. But it was much too cold for me to turn my head to verify, so perhaps he was telling the truth... ;>

Buck, aka Mr. Serious, looked at me like I had pissed him off, so I am assuming I said something on this list that he didn't like. He stood about 6'3" or 6'4". He looked like he could have pulled a rollercoaster. During Birch Hill, he calmly "stopped" this drunk redneck fellow from starting a moshpit. Without a word, it was Stonefaced Buck to the rescue! About ten YJs, myself included, witnessed the event and shouted congratulations to him with pumped fists from afar. "Go Buck!" "Hold the front!"

Hairball had a lot of hair. He was busy giving free technical advice in the line for Birch Hill, so I didn't get to talk to him much. But he did his best during the show to cause a ruckuss by shouting my name at the top of his lungs, which in turn caused several other people to do the same...

Ryan Skadberg. Where do I begin? We did a few improv moshes, which confused anyone who had never IRC'd while the two of us were there. In the line for Birch Hill, he could be heard to shout, "It is FREEZING! Let's light a big bonfire and sacrifice Bafu!" Am I that evil? Also during the show, he ended up having to put up with the same 40-year-old assholes who were trying to mosh in their inebriated state as I did. He also repeatedly joked about burning holes in my shirt (body) with one of the 10 (11? 74?) cigarettes he blazed through. Somehow, he and Al Balkiewicz were right next to me for the whole show.

Speaking of Al Balkiewicz, who will never send me the tapes he has owed me for nine months because I've never traded with him, he's a really cool guy. During the Birch Hill show, the crowd started rotating. Nevermind linear back and forth, left and right, I mean ROTATING. Like someone was spinning the club while we were in it. I was near the axis in the middle of the lower floor, so the movement was not that severe for me, but Al was about six feet further back than I was, so he was caught in the sudden circular motion of the crowd. He could be heard to scream, "I'M GOIN' BACKWARDS!! WHAT THE FUCK?! WHAT THE FUCK?!"

There were several (dozen?) people I met but was unable to form an impression about. For the time being they may all be placed in the "Too Cool For Words" catagory. :) Brian Cox, Michael Bradley, John Mastin, Bigman, Brian Wherry, let's see who else... This is difficult. I now know how DT feels after a show because I met about 100 people over those three days, and they all remember me, but I can't possibly remember all of them. I know I'm leaving someone out, and they're gonna be pissed, but oh well. I'm just a Fucking Idiot, after all...

All posts that have been addressed to individuals have been sent, as far as I know, directly to those individuals and have not been sent out to the list. In each case, 1223 people who were not the addressees would have received the posts.

If you have not heard from those individuals, it may be because school has not yet begun at many campuses. If you would like me to forward another message to them, I will, but I stand by my decision to filter out personal messages from the list.

    > And I also > had some lyrics questions that you took out - what's wrong with that? They > never seemed to clutter the Jam much before. Sure, you can get rid of > Favourites Polls and Religious Banter, but other than that, I think you > should moderate just a tad less.

As I recall, I answered your lyric question. If it's a lyric question like your post tonight, then I personally don't have a problem with the post and it was erroneously returned. Also note that I state in all returned messages that those who receive returned messages can appeal the decision and I will listen to your justification.
