But the one thing I forgot to say, the one thing I wished I had said right
to the face of any of the members of DT backstage at Birch Hill:

Somebody mentioned "reversing" DT and asked about a big PC to do it.
Well, it would be the best way to reverse a track, but it surely
needs tons of free disk space. Besides, I don't have a CD to do it.
So here is another, "hardware" solution I discovered a few
years ago (I haven't got the time to try it on DT, though). The quality
of the reversed track will be less than mediocre, but at least you can
get an idea of how it sounds.
    So:
    take an 90-min audiocasette.
transfer on it the record you wish to reverse. if you can do level control,
record it with the maximum level you can.
rewind the tape to the beginning.
open the casette (you will need a really tiny screwdriver to do this, but
    it's not that hard)
carefully turn both rolls in their nests, so that past the head of
the tape recorder goes the BACK side of the tape. if the tape starts
unfolding, you're nearly lost the tape - it is VERY hard to get it back
    right.
close the casette and rewind it a few times back and forth.
now find the recording and enjoy it!
Since the magnetic layer will not be close enough to the reading head
of the player, the sound will be muted. 60-min tapes are thicker,
and thus the results are worse.

OK, this should maybe convince you it's not THAT hard to find
a few GBs of disk space?
    I wish you luck (hehehe)

Hey everybody. I noticed something at Birch Hill which struck me as a
little odd, and I wanted to find out if anyone can shed some light on it
for me. Did anyone else think it was kinda weird that Mike's kick drums
had "home made" Tama logos taped on them??? I was pretty far back in the
club, so my eyes might be playing tricks on me, but it seemed to me to be
his regular Mapex road kit. Did anyone ask Mike about this? I'm under the
assumption that he's supposed to play Mapex drums exclusively because of
his endorsement deal, so the only conclusion I'm left to draw is that Mapex
dicked him over, or his contract ran out or something. Either way, he seems
to be making a point of NOT advertising Mapex.

Any ideas? Or am I missing something entirely?

     Jeff hochbj@sage.edu

P.S. - As previously reported, the show was brilliant beyond words. I'm
SO glad I chose Birch Hill as my one holiday show to attend! :) Damn...
I've seen these fuckers 6 times, and somehow they keep topping themselves
with each consecutive performance. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking
      about it...

P.P.S. - James *really* impressed me. He was dead on the whole night, and
I especially admired his new-found restraint in the shrieking department.
He actually *sang* the words! No, really, in "Pull Me Under" he actually
sang "and then my only father's son" instead of "AN DEN MY ONLAY FADDA
SUN!!!" And check it out: in between lines, he rarely, if ever, let loose
a bloodcurdling scream just for the hell of it! I think he read some old
'Jams and has finally founditsa caudup wihim. :)

Hi everyone, just a short question for the jammers who attended the NJ
    show last Saturday:

What was that Metalica-like thrash riff that DT played between the Kansas
and Pink Floyd jams? Thanx a million. Please reply directly to me.
    Thanx.

To those of you looking for Alex Lifeson's new album, don't look under
"L", because apparently, he calls himself "Victor" on this album. Or
maybe that's the name of his "band" that he's put together for this.
As before, the album's name is "Victor", of course. The release date
    is 1/09.

Does anyone know what's up with Aerosmith's new album? I've been
reading on the net that they've been playing some local clubs on one of
the coasts under the false name of "Remco and the seat covers".
They've been playing a combination of really old songs off Pandora's
Box, and brand new stuff (which has been described as a throwback to
their older stuff...). One thing though, they aren't playing ANYTHING
off Get a Grip. (Shit, they've been doing that stuff for what? 2
Years now? It's good, but I can see where they want some variety...)
My point is, that their new album was at first sleighted for Christmas
'95, but obviously that didn't happen. So is there any news at all?
One other source said it'd be out around the 10th, but now that seems
unfounded. Can anyone help me out on this?

It's kind of cool that they're being mysterious about everything. I
think they must miss the small club scene and "Remco..." is the only
way they can get into those places. Imagine seeing them walking out on
stage!!! And playing those older classics and brand new stuff!
    ROCK!!!

Sorry for the blatant lack of DT content, but we've been getting a
whole hell of a lot of that lately, so I figured you guys (and gals)
    wouldn't mind. ;)

    Peace, mama!

I noticed on the new releases list that WDADU is being rereleased in February
I guess this ends the far fetched rumor that they would rerecord it with
James singing, (We do have WDATU though). Plus the band members have
stated that they dont care to play WDADU songs anymore.

Since I am sure someone taped some if not all of the December shows, i think
we need another Mike Bahr production, like perhaps a 2 disc work of a whole
show, or a 2 disc work that has the best version of every song that was
    played. Something like that.

Thanks to all who talked to Al Balkewicz about the videos he has owed me
for almost 11 months. Hopefully he will get the hint...

Correction. Anyone copying this down, insert "Caught In A Web" after "Take
The Time." Immediately after "TTT" ended, James said, "Blah, blah, blah,
blah...WEBBAGE." That was the point at which fifty or so of us fans with
the ability to predict the future groaned in unison, as we realized we
were about to be crushed a little more in the sardine can that was Birch
Hill. I remember thinking, "No, please, can't you do Wait For Sleep or

"Wrath of Zeus," heh heh, dat was me. Elliott Kim had another good one. I
think it was for ACOS - "Didn't you hear? Portnoy is now endorsed by
    Maxwell House!"

Anyway, I don't know if Trey has posted this yet or not, but he asked
Derek when his birthday was, and then told me not to let him forget it.
"My birthday," Derek said, "is 8, 25, 66. In the rhythm section, out of
me, John and John, and Mike, I'm the oldest." I found it odd that Derek
referred to the four members playing external instruments as "the rhythm
section." Does that make James "the lead section?" Maybe he could do a
beatbox at one of their shows to jam with Mike? :)

Never saw that before. To those who haven't seen it yet, In the inlay from
WDADU, it says under AFIL, "Music by Dream Theatre". Also, did anyone notice
that on the CD itself, all the songs Charlie wrote say "lyrics by Dominics"?
Speaking of misprints, the tickets that the Malibu sold at the box office
said "Dream Theatre" while the Ticketmaster tickets said "Dream Theater" I
    wonder why?

Does anyone know if SDV or IF have ever been performed live? I doubt it

    HI all,

Just got back into town and thought I would say hello. I guess by fate I
picked the best show to go to(or at least that was the oppion of a jammer
that went to all 4 shows). It was a great experence.

We showed up at 5:10 or so with to here the sound check. One of the
local club worker thought that it was cool that we came all the way
from Florida and showed up 3+ hours early to see a show so he let us
into check out the stage. While we were in the club Derick was warmimg
up on a new prototype Korg(?SP), man he has more talent than I ever
expected- from what I heard and say his preformance on ACOS and live
have been limited, I can't what to here to new album. We also saw Mike
and JohnM, but one of the DT crew guys made us leave before they
started to warm up. O well.

When we finaly got in after 3+ hours of whating in the cold. We got the
front bow spot infront of JohnP.

The opening act Kicked Ass, laked diversity a little but still kicked ass
(I will defentaly be looking for a releace from them)

The show ruled. I totaly loved the number of little insturmental passages
that they used to introduce LSOAD and the like. The new cover set also
    kicked ass.

Got to meet the band after the show. All of them were very cool. I do not
know why every one says bad things about JohnM. I talked to him for a few
minites and he was realy cool, he acualy said hello to me first. It
seemed to me that he is gust not comfortable around alot of people( I
talked to him before everyone started to croud around the band members.

I finaly met jay peele and got a Inferno tape. I encurage all of you to
email him and get copys of their tapes. Their sound is a cross of
Rush/DT/Cynic in my oppion. Check out their first album "Psychic
Distance" for heavyer stuff and their second album/ep "Architect" for
    more Rush like stuff.

I saw on the video monitors that there was a single camera shooting the
entire BH show opening act through the very last DT song. Dose anyone
know if the show was taped and if so can copys be attained.

Great show and JohnP said that they will tour Florida the next time they
    go on the road:)

    Talk to you all later.

I have set up an IRC Server just for Dream Theater and ProgMusic known as
YtseNet. To get on and chat with all the other YtseJammers, do the
    following:

Get on to IRC how you normally would.

Once on change your server to:

    irc.dreamt.org 2112

This can be done in most cases by typing:

    /server irc.dreamt.org 2112

at your IRC Prompt. Once you have done this, join the channel #ytsejam.
    This can be done by:

    /join #ytsejam

    with most IRC Clients.

If you have ANY questions about how to access IRC or the server itself,
MAIL ME. I will find a way to help you. I want more people to come
and visit. It get's boring talk to Bafu every night ;) (JK Steve)

    Hello YtseWorld....

Well, I've finally gotten a chance and sit and write to this
list about all the fun last week, so here goes.

The Con: It rocked! Many thanks to Trey and crew for
organizing it. It was real fun meeting all these people that
I mail back and forth and talk to on IRC. Everyone was real
cool and it was aa pleasure meeting you all.

The YtseJammers: They rock. End of story. As DMan mentioned,
we we're saying it was like we all were long time friends by the time
    we got to Birch Hill.

Malibu: Packed. Morgenstern and Rudess were a very cool
opening act, even if I did miss half their show cause I felt like
I was gonna pass out and had to go and sit and half a Coke before
DT. DT was amazing as always. James seemed very pissed at the crowd
and I was too. YOU DO NOT CROWD SURF TO DT. The worst part was
the idiots at Malibu were throwing the surfers right back in to the
crowd and they were getting right back on top of the crowd. Scarred
was great live. Perfect Strangers wasn't the best song to end on,
but it was DT, so it was good enough for me.

Birch Hill: WOW! Met more jammers which was cool. Saw the
whole Rudess and Morgenstern show this time. Can't wait for an album
from them!!! Dt just kicked ass. BH was smart the crowd surfers got
their asses thrown right out the fucking door. Thank God. That stopped
after the first song. James was REALLY in to it at BH. Now we have
"Mercy Fuck", "Sympathy" AND "FUCKIN SHIT!" That was very cool.
Learning to Live to finish was PERFECT. They just rocked.
After the show, Derek came out to the bar and a bunch of us were talking
to him. The next thing I know, we are all at the Aftershow party with
backstage passes. (Bafu is a god) The band was awesome. I am the
infamous wedding picture person from a certain Professional Criminal's
post :) I could go on and on, but won't.

The Day After: Got home from BH at 6AM. Had to get up at
8 to catch a plane back to Boston. That sucked. Made the plane by
    about 1 1/2. Thanks Brian!!!

Overall: This will be something that will stick in my head
for a LONG LONG time. It was great meeting everyone. Hopefully
we can all meet again sometime in the near future.

            That's enough babbling from me.

    Later
    Skadz

    PS - COME VISIT IRC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you posted. Remember: "How about some webbage?"

I would like to say something on the subject of moderation. I think it's a
good thing, Ken, but the thing is that I have discovered you moderated a few
messages too many. I have been trying to contact two Jammers via the digest,
only to find my messages, er, moderated. The Jam is the only way for me to
contact them, as I don't have their email addresses. I can understand why
you took them out, after all, they were only vaguely DT-related. And I also
had some lyrics questions that you took out - what's wrong with that? They
never seemed to clutter the Jam much before. Sure, you can get rid of
Favourites Polls and Religious Banter, but other than that, I think you
should moderate just a tad less.

And I am so envious of all the USA guys who got to hear "Scarred" and
all...and your backstage experiences made me experience Deja Vu... DT are
great as persons *and* musicians. I am glad they always take their time to
talk to the fans, especially Mike. Bummer they couldn't make it to the
Ytsecon, but I guess that management and bureaucracy for you...I am sure the
band would have preferred it. Trey, I hope you got out without a financial
    deficit.

To the people who say "A Change of Seasons" was on various bootlegs: Yes,
it's the *old* version. The *new* version is not on any CDs yet. So Marcel
Berkhout was quite right and I have also told him I'd be interested in the
boot CD he'll make of the Bospop festival (70 minutes, complete gig).

Now for a few other miscellaneous questions:

To the guy that I dubbed Subcon from, who lives at I.B. Bakkerlaan: Please
contact me! I lost your home address to bring by the tapes you wanted!

To the really nice German dude who got me Satriani/DP's FiaPD: I would
really like you to order "Lost in the Sky" for me. Can this be done? I will
me more patient this time :-)

To the guy of "Skyway of Nightmares" and DT never playing "Another Day"?
Well...they played that song on just about every single concert of the I&W
tour, and probably a few Awake ones too (Thomas Prehn).

I guess I am not the only one interested in a tape of the Birch Hill
show....can anyone help me? Of course, all expenses will be paid. Could Mike
Bahr maybe do a 2CD bootleg of the Birch Hill show? <mega grin>

To Bafu: Man, you should be a music magazine journalist. Or at least have
your stuff printed in a paper DT newsletter. I don't think I enjoyed
anything as much before in the Jam. Tip of the hat for letting us Jammers
share the atmosphere! (and the other guys and girls too!)

     Hi there!

I have a question. I need some help identifying some bits of
song lyrics. If you recognise some of 'em, can you email me
personally? They are supposed to be really difficult to
identify, so it's quite a challenge!

"Letters feast the smell of cooked flesh; last scent of sweet death"

"I love you, I love you my little porno slut"

Hint: The two above come, alphabetically, before "Gathering".

"Rise through the gate, Iak Sakkath from depths beyond the sky"

"Sadness, despair sometimes the things I cherish"

"Love crushing, skulls smashing in the vice of Hell"

Hint: The three above are between "Gathering" and "Orphanage".

"Schizophrenia, paranoia, insane death rests in pain"

Hint: This one comes between "Paradise Lost" and "Sodom". Might
    this be Sepultura?

"Oooooh, ooooh, you've always been a good friend of mine till you
    said farewell"

Hint: This one comes after "Uriah Heep".

     Cheers!
