In Ytsejam 1222 someone said that JP's riffs are getting to be heavier
and also he said that he thinks that JP is tuning his guitars low.
Well on Awake, 3 songs are played with 7-string Ibanez guitars. The
songs are CIAW, Lie, and 6:00. He also uses his 7-stringed guitar on "A
Change of Seasons." It seems as though he has 2 7-stringed guitars.
One of them hasa Black & white finish that is similar to the picasso
design featured on his JP100. The other one is a guitar that is
multicolored in purple.

Happy new year!
No, I haven't posted anything to the 'jam for a while ;-)
MP's drums:
Back to Tama, back to Bear Track, back to Prater, back to IAW? Maybe Tama
should replace the snare with a drumpad, Prater would be happy. Choke...
I couldn't stand another Prater production with either triggered or rattling
drums and vocals processed and mixed down to death! Uh... BTW.
Death:
Best death metal band ever, and since "Human" even sort of "progressive
death". I'm not sure if Cynic have Death's ex-bassist. "Human" features
Cynic's drummer and guitarist, bassist on "Human" and the following album was
Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus). Maybe Cynic recruited the guy that did the "Human"
tour with Death. Drummer on "Individual..." and "Symbolic" was Gene Hoglan,
ex-Dark Angel, now ex-Death. He left the band, which was BTW dropped by
Roadrunner. Chuck Schuldiner thinks of waiting one or two years and restarting
with a new sound then. Ok, another one: Anyone heard of Atheist?
Yes and stuff:
Just wanted to listen to the original versions of the Yes songs DT played at
the Uncovered gig and within two weeks I heard all albums from '71 to '80 and
bought three of these till now. "Close to the Edge" and "Relayer" are
mandatory listening for all Progrock fans.
Then I tried Rush (once again). I listened to "2112" and "Moving Pictures" and
was bored. I just can't get into it. The original "Tears" is inferior to the
covers DT made and after hearing the InstruMENTAL "YYZ"-cover a lot I even
liked that version better than the Rush original. Well, since Rush made many
albums and I'm a collector, I think I saved a lot of money ;-)

Here's number two! I don't really like them that much however. The only
real death metal band that I can get into is Sepultura. By the way, are
there any people here from Connecticut/ Long Island area who used to listen
to Dee Snider's Metal Nation on WRCN (103.9/94.3)? Could youtell me what
happened to the show? Dee kicks ass, and yet it is no longer on the air.

If you have the equipement there's an even easier way-
If you have a multitrack recorder (and a lot of you might since there are
many musicians on the 'Jam) just record the song onto tracks one and two in
stereo. Then flip the tape over and the song will play in reverse through
tracks three and four.
Actually, you should just hunt down some DT on vinyl- its the best
medium for sound reproduction anyway :) By the way, does anyone know if any
DT stuff is available on vinyl? If so, where can I get it?

I checked out Squick and Torman Maxt on the web and both have pages up and running (I used the InfoSeek search engine to look them up). Both pages have some bios and pics, as well as some down-loadable .wav files. The Squick tune was o.k. but I'd have to hear more, might be promising. The Torman Maxt tune was about 500k and it took about 15 minutes to download 250, so I gave up. Check them out using your search engine, or I can get their URL's if you need me to. Hi everyone,
**************ESPECIALLY FOR ALL AOL USERS*********************** I've read the stuff some have said about the IRC #Ytsejam. Well the thing is AOL doesn't offer that now and quite honestly don't know if they plan to. All there is are the chat rooms which don't do much good for non AOL jam members, plus in my opinion kind of suck anyhow. What I was thinking is for all us AOL jam members to send a petition of some sort to the network asking for them to stop depriving us of the IRC. I've mentioned this to one other member and he seemed ok with it. I told him I'd post this.
So anyone interested, e-mail me personally and we'll try to figure out a plan to do this.
Thanks a lot!

Tama had been after Mike for some time and have made him a very good offer. He's officially signed and will be doing drum clinics for them "in the distant future".

Anyway, I don't know about you all, but I prefer new Fate's over old Fate's, I love the new heaviness of DT, and I love listening to Death and Machine Head. Anyone like the Cocteau Twins? Since I'm new to the list, I would first like to introduce myself... I'm a DT fan and Guitarist from Albstadt (Germany)... what else would you like to know?
Concerning JPs "pretty brutal riffs" - I just love them! The answer to your question is very easy: JP has never tuned his guitar too low (as far as I know...) - he simply uses a 7-String Guitar which allows him to play those extremely low-tone riffs! Imagine "The Mirror" with a normal 6-String, it wouldn't sound half as... "fat" (? How should I express that in English...?). Well, this is not nice for guitarists who want to play DT songs from "Awake" and "ACoS" - you will get that bombastic sound only with a 7-String!!! (I would actually also like to have one)
TO ALL YTSEJAMMERS FROM GERMANY: Is there anyone from Baden-Wuerttemberg in the list... especially musicians? KEYBOARDERS?? (I am actually looking for one for my band (FOUR against ONE)... if you like some Funk- and Grunge-Influenced progressive music, please let me know.

Ben, this is really wierd, cos I heard a radio show when Awake was released over here, and Dave Mustaine was special guest. They played 6:00 and Mustaine started making snoring noises when it was finished. The radio presenter asked him what he thought of Dream Theater and he slagged them off! Of course he could always change his opinion (it was over a year ago), or he could be just saying he likes them to keep you happy...

Hello Jammers,
It is incredible to see how people analyze even the smallest futilities of DT's music. I consider myself a heavy fan of this band, but there are more excellent musicians out there. Fortunately, Cairo and Shadow Gallery are fairly known to the progrock fans, but bands like White Heart, Oracle. Jackal and so on are not often spoken of simply because little people know about them. It's very frustrating to see (even for a non-musician like me) that many great bands like forementioned and others cease to exist because they are systematically ignored by the fans. My advice: read the magazines carefully, go out and listen to those bands adn most off all don't become a one-band-Prince-like-hysterical fan. If you don't have access to decent mags you can e-mail me (privately_on almost every sub genre of rock nusic, from melodic rock to death metal (the only subgenre I know virtually nothing about is hardcore, but those fellows complain so much). The world doesn't stop at Dream Theater.
C-Ya,
Gerralt Partiman.

Patricia can you add me to your list? Gary from Newcastle :-))
Been reading all the threads lately about the recent New York gigs and i can only sympathise with the jammers who were frozen, crushed, kicked, punched and thrown out ( it was worth it though wasn't it).

Someone asked about this xn prog band...Torman Maxt.
Well, I'd always seen there ads in HM magazine, and they were always comparing themselves to Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Saviour Machine (all of which I love). I found their web page on the internet and downloaded some sound bites and then ordered their disc via VISA through their web page.
It's a pretty good album. One thing that lacks in the xn side of the industry is good prog bands. Torman Maxt is a "good prog band." They are not, however, a Dream Theater, or a Queensryche of xn rock/metal. They are good, and I see some DT and QR influences, but they aren't *that* monumental. One downside is the vocalist...I don't like him, but oh well...
Most of the tracks are acoustically based as well...
Well, that's about all I know now...if you want their web page URL, try a Yahoo or Web Crawler search for "Torman Maxt" or email me and I can dig it up...

Elliott, (hi there),
As far as judging the quality of boots... the transition between a pre-recorded intro and the live "kick-in" is not a good judge of quality for the entire boot... It is possible that a good sounding "board" boot of a show may have a bad transition into the kick-in... However, it is annoying if the soundman screws that up or the band comes in slightly out of time...

Dear Ytsejammers, for those who don't know me (hmm... that's most of you), my name is Marcel Berkhout and I am the second guy (you all know the first one) on the Ytsejam list to make bootlegs. I'm from Holland, keep that in mind if you find any typos :)
Like Mike Bahr I'm not out to scam all of you and make huge amounts of money. I'm really into bootlegs and this is the perfect way for me to broaden (sp?) my horizons (wow!)
As you can see I took the liberty of copy-ing Mike Bahr's update-style. I think it's something you all are familiar with and is easy to read.
2. What is .................. (still looking for a good name, hint!, hint!)
This was my 4th Dream Theater concert of the year and probably one of the most memorable 'cause they played ACOS!!
It was recorded on the 8th of July this summer during an outdoors festival called 'Bospop' (Please don't ask me why it's called that way). Dream Theater didn't headline the festival, but judging from the amount of people wearing DT t-shirts most of them came to see DT :)
A friend of mine recorded the show with his portable DAT-recorder and some great mics, so the quality of the recording is great, especially for an outdoor show. Aahh hell.... might as well tell you all the truth.... the only negative thing I can think of is that there are some people (with no vocal ability whatsoever) can be heard from time to time during the 'easier' and 'slower' parts of some songs (LSOAD and Another Day). I hope this doesn't bother to many people.
Because DT didn't headline the festival they only played for 70 minutes.
The setlist was :
Intro Under a Glass Moon Voices A Change of Seasons Another Day Pull me Under [encore] 6:00
The booklet will contain actual pictures from the festival, all FULL color of course! I have some cool ideas for this :)
3. What is the release schedule?
Like I said in my original posting, I need at least 100 reservations to get this project going, therefore I can't give any information (yet) about the release date. Currently there are 59 reservations and I hope that I will have 100 (or more of course!) within a week or two.
4. How much will .......... (fill in name here) cost?
I'm not out to compete with Mike Bahr, so my prices will be exactly the same as his. ($25 base cost) I'm not sure about the postage yet, but I think that it won't differ much from Mike's prices.
5. The reservations
Note that the numbers are not CD numbers. Please e-mail me if you see any mistakes/typos.
