I feel the very same way, and I'm sure many other fans do, and I will
attempt to explain why I think it's that way. I attribute it to the
typical type of listeners music like DT's attracts: usually they're more
intelligent, a lot of them musicians (more often than not *good* ones)
themselves, and can appreciate what most of us would agree is just
*better* music. Generally this type of fan appreciates that "underground"
quality in a band, because if few other people have heard of this band and
they're not real popular, the listener will feel "set apart," if you will,
from the crowd. I say this because the listener I describe above usually
doesn't like being just "part of the crowd," but wants an identity for
himself, and listening to an underground band like DT gives him that
identity.

I found a rotating cd storage container that hold 400 cds that I think is pretty good. It doesn't have indivdual slots so it makes it easier to move cds when you get a new one. Still a kinda pain if you have more than 400 cds. I need another one since I have well over 500 cds. I bought it at best buy.

after the mtv movie awards rob claimed something about the click in his headset being off so the band played horrible and out-of-time. first off any band who needs a tempo click on their headsets to stay in time shouldnt be up on stage playin in the first place! also, rob always seems to run out of breath on stage and just gasp the vocals out... i've never really had much respect for WZ after astro-creep came out, rob just seems to love all this mtv bs attention he's getting and just diggin the band deeper in shit. ` ~Rip not ~Ro[ :)

Someone posted a reply that the Edge show wasn't the first gig. Well, Jack stands corrected since I was only repeating what he said. whoever said that they played an AC/DC tune at soundcheck; did you see the show? Because at our show the only did ONE Damn Yankees song in the acoustic set. And just because they play a song at sound check doesn't mean they play it live. I went to BOTH Metallica show at slims last month and at soundcheck they played Wasting My Hate both days, but it wasn't played at either show.

If I didn't know better, I would think you didn't actually go to the Night Ranger show, you just heard a soundcheck and figured that was the set.

When Awake came out, I heard CIAW on 'Smash It or Trash It' (or whatever it was called). It was about a 50/50 split.

There is a very good chance Faith no More broke up. And I am surprised no one new about this. Founding member of Faith no More, and keyboardist/vocalist/gutairist, Roddy Bottum HAS LEFT THE BAND. He has formed a new band call Imperial Teen, who in my opinion are pretty damn good. If you like pop alternitive type music check 'em out. I saw there first video of 120 mintues on Sunday, Roddy is the lead singer and plays gutair, plus there drummer is a major babe.

So with all that I wonder where that leaves, Mike Patton, Dean Menta, Billy Gould, and Mike "Puffy" Bordin --> who has been spoted playing drums with Ozzy on the Dave Letterman show most recently.

BTW, KFADFFAL is my favorite FNM album.

I know that there are sometimes reasons why someone can't finish up a trade immediately. For instance Brian's Father in the hospital. But the question is how long is too long? If you really think about it, to make a copy of tapes is not difficult. It takes only a couple of minutes of your time. I mean you put both tapes in. Push play on one, push record on the other, then come back an hour later... Brian doesn't owe me tapes but I think now he will have more time to get his trades done. Brian has been mentioned in trades before many times and is a GOOD TRADER.

In my opinon when a trade is agreed upon, the trade should be completed within about 2 weeks.

Brian, about the tape tree. There are a lot of jammers (like myself) who really appreciated you doing the tree. We did not complain about the quality. I mean we were getting a boot of DT at a very minimal cost. Thanks for doing the tree. The tape was great.

Please consider doing another tree...

Agreed. Burgess was quite an author, and I'd probably rate the movie a cut below the book, but it doesn't suffer like some of the other movies translated onto the big screen -- "The Fountainhead," "Dune," "Last of the Mohicans" -- though the last of the three is a great sounding movie.

Sure....history is filled with genius that's not fitted in well with the world. I don't know that I'd say that drugs are necessarily strongly correlated with genius, but it's certainly prevalent in the musical world. But eccentricity, man, you can draw up a list of any ten great individuals, and you'll find that nine of them were patently eccentric: Einstein, Pythagoras, Sanger, Leibniz, Lavoisier, Washington, Alexander the Great, Truth, Mohammad, Gotama (Buddha). I just picked ten at random....and my pattern holds. Sojourner Truth is the only one that I'm not aware of historical documentation for some real eccentricity. I'd say genius is ALWAYS tinged with eccentricity, and that we all have our failings....including those people we think of as "great" or "revolutionary."

I don't think the soundtrack is bad or anything. It's a little 70's, surely, but it's a point of reference for a lot of folks doing PoMo sounding soundtracks. Well, that's partly true -- either they're indebted to that ACO-type sound or the Tarantino melange....

Your description is surely accurate. "Angel Dust" is a keyboard-driven album in a lot of ways -- it's very atmospheric, punctuated by musical events. It's (an this surely sounds a little strange) more symphonic than their other work, I'd say. Though I'd say "Introduce Yourself" is more of a "rocking" album than "The Real Thing."

And as an aside to the world: I've seen the Melvins four times and they've never failed to bore me.....

Well... I can say (not-so-proudly) that I went to the last Grateful Dead show in Portland, OR. This was last May 29th BTW. It wasn't their last show.. I think that was in the June or July after that.

Oh... about your question... no, actually I don't wish that would've happened at all. We all knew that Jerry Garcia was gonna kick the bucket sometime... but it's kinda nuts to wish for the death of anyone, let alone one of the greatest guitarists in psychedelic rock. Saying "I saw their last show" is trivial, compared to the loss of a musician and, in this case, a great guy.

Anywayz... just thought I'd get that off my chest.

BTW -- I'm still collecting people's webpages for the YtseWeb page that I'm working on. If you haven't sent me your info (Name, Nick, Mail, URL, description/bio) get it in NOW! I'd really like to see this thing take off, but I don't have the time to scan every JAM for URL's and bug people individually for their info.

In no particular order:

1) As I mentioned in a previous post here, I'm originally from Long Beach, California, and was very much a part of the "scene" there. They were light years away from my band musically (I'm tempted to say "not as good," but I'll leave that out of the conversation for the moment), but Sublime is the only band that grew out of the same OC/LA scene that I played in for years that really got very far (Unles you count Youth Brigade, Middle Earth, Zen, or The Lost Souls) commercially. Brad Newell's OD, then, was a pretty bitter pill for a lot of us to swallow. I'm not there, anymore, and have only spoken about it from a few people, but the general concensus seems to be something along the lines of "He knew the risks going in," which you could certainly say about a lot of more notable people whose extra-curricular activities placed them in mortal danger... Jaco, Charlie Parker, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, et. al. A lot of us know that scene, even if we aren't participants. The bottom line -- drugs are the hamartia of rock n' roll (and jazz and blues and bouzouki music).

2) Seeing Ray Alder live, I couldn't have been more impressed. It was like watching someone with a 454 engine with the hemi....most of the time, you just have this amazing tool and power and every once in a while, it's a blast to step on the gas. I LOVE listening to that guy sing. Arch is good, but not THAT good. Not in my opinion, anyhow.

3) I reject the notion that "The Real Thing" was just a ploy to get Faith No More into the mainstream. You don't release and album like THAT -- not then -- expecting to receive commercial acceptance. It was too radical an album....not radical on the same order of Mr. Bungle, but a natural step from "Introduce Yourself" and "We Care A Lot." Incidentally, Mike Bordin's a hell of a drummer....
