So what? Like was said when Lars' kit was being discussed, size doesn't
matter. I can play virtually everything Portnoy plays on my 5 piece. Nobody
    says I'm a god. Well, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm NOT a god...okay,
    I'm getting off topic now.

The Rush CD - Run From The Fans is 55:45 minutes long, probably recorded
from a radio broadcast on the Roll The Bones tour...
Since I have the double CD Rush 'N' Roulette '92, I really don't need this
    one anymore...

    Here is the track list:

    Force Ten
    Limelight
    Time Stand Still
    Roll The Bones
    Freewill
    Distant Early Warning
    Ghost Of A Chance
    Xanadu/Superconductor
    Tom Sawyer

It's on the Italian import company KTS and is in perfect shape... I paid
around $27 for it in the store but I'm selling it for $22 (this price
    includes postage)...

Let me know if you are interested... Thanks... Jay Peele

The Top Ten Reasons Not to Post Top Ten Lists to the Jam:

    10) It's highly doubtful that your ten favorite guitarists, bands,
albums, toothpastes, or whatever are really all that different from
    anyone else's.
    9) With 300 people posting this stuff all at once, no one's going to
remember yours anyway, and we would just have to go through all this shit
    all over again.
    8) Top Ten Lists are blase. There's never a Top 14 list, or a Bunch of
    Top Six or Seven. Booo-ring.
    7) We have to conserve bandwidth for the Mojo/Mithrandir thing going on.
    6) This space intentionally left blank (I couldn't think of 10).
    5) There isn't ten of anything in hockey.
    4) We've asked politely.
    3) Someone will disagree with something in your list, and who knows what
    could happen as a result?
    2) Not enough mention of Alex Lifeson in the guitarist lists.
    1) Skadz said so.

    Okay everyone...

I managed to catch some more of the new Metallica from their new album
"Load". What a cool name for an album... wish I'd thought of that
earlier. Now I can walk into a record store and ask "Yeah, I'll take a
'Load' please..." and watch their reactions. :)

    But I digress.

Anyway... the song that most of us have heard already (Until it Sleeps)
sounds pretty kick-ass. Athough the drum intro sounds a bit like Alice
In Chains, the whole song gets pretty fuckin rockin.

I was just about convinced that I had to get this album... until I heard
the other song "Mama's Boy" or something like that. People, imagine (if
you will) Metallica sounding like Eric Clapton unplugged. I love Clapton
(esp. Unplugged) but THIS SONG SUCKS! I hope to never hear this song
    again in my entire life!

If I wanted to listen to someone whine about their mother, I'd put Danzig
on. And if I wanted to hear someone do that with acoustic guitars and
country-shit steel guitars, I'd listen to Willie Nelson. I can't believe
Metallica, the masters of butt-kickin rock, released a song like THIS.

Enough of my rant. Hope the rest of the album isn't this bad, 'cause I
sure as hell ain't gonna buy it.

Someone's been tossing around ideas for a DT+RUSH tour again. I love
both bands but I just don't see it happening. They're too used to being
good band by themselves... they probably won't team up. Even though DT
likes RUSH a lot, I can't see them playing second fiddle to anyone now.
Maybe 5 years ago they would, but they just aren't an opening act for any
    band. Not even RUSH.

All of the above IMHO of course.

    See ya,

    Dear jammers,

Hey, what's up? I'm writing just to remind you that the YtseCon III will
be held on October 12th at the La Guardia Marriot. I've spoken to
management, and they are defintely aware of this convention and things
    look really good for us.

Anyways, if you plan on coming and you haven't contacted us about it yet,
please write to Chris Merlo at cmerlo@cs.uvm.edu. Also, please include if
you plan on staying at the Marriot, and if you will be flying into NY. I
will be trying to get airline discounts for those of you who are flying
    in.

BTW, due to costs that I forgot to consider, I'll have to bump up the
price of admission to $20 per person. This is the same price as the last
YtseCon, and this wil hopefully pay for all of the expenses that we have
    to pay for the YtseCon.

Well, please write if you plan on coming and you're not on Chris's list.
I'll talk to you guys soon!

    Yours,
    Jeff =)

to california and when they get there they just sit around on the beach

and laugh at you then they hide in the fridge again and only these cows
know the secret of wether or not the little light stays on when you
close the door and maybe if you find out you'll ask them and ask them to
tell you the answer beacuse it's been bugging mankind for years and

    Well,

I haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I'd cover everything in one shot.

Top 10 Bands: I'm assuming other than DT since we all know that one..

    In no particular ranking:

    1) Pantera
    2) King's X
    3) Iron Maiden (before Bruce left)
    4) Fates Warning
    5) Shockhead (San Diego Band)
    6) 24-7 Spyz (what living color always wanted to be)
    7) Queensryche
    8) Metallica (it's all good stuff)
    9) Testament
    10) White Zombie (gotta luv that groove)

As for Metallica not being the band they used to be.. who cares.. Has any
band remained the same over the years.. NO.. I wouldn't want them to be.
A band HAS to evolve and change in order to stay interesting. Has any QR
album sounded just like the previous one.. NO.. Bands that don't change..
. DIE.. and I don't mean changing to fit the flavor of the month.

    Ok.. Top 10 guitarists..

    1) JP
    2) JM (plays more than most "guitarists" do)
    3) Ty Tabor
    4) Chris DeGarmo (great minimalist lead player)
    5) James Hetfield (maybe the best rhythm player around)
    6) Shawn Lane
    7) Stevie Ray Vaughn
    8) Jason Becker
    9) Dimebag Darrel
    10) Tony MacAlpine (maybe the best technical player there is)

The reason guys like Steve Vai, Frank Aresti, Nuno Bettencourt and other
don't make it onto my list is.. "what have you done lately ???"

I know what you're saying "SRV hasn't done anything".. yeah... well DEAD
    doesn't count..

Glad to hear about Metropolis II (October can't come soon enough for me)

I was thinking of buying it as well, but I probably won't. They
haven't been the same since Master of Puppets, IMO. That album was,
and still is, my favorite of theirs.

UiS is a good song. At first, I loved it, but it's not like when I
listen to DT (DT- content). I can listen to DT songs over and over
and not get tired of them, but this song kind of grew old after about
    the 4th listen for me.

P.S. Check my .sig file about my CD Player. I made up lyric files for
this program for I&W, Awake, ACOS, and a partial one for Live @ the

I'm not sure about that Dave... in fact, I'm unsure about a lot of remedies
that might be possible to save a scratched CD. I've tried buffing out
scratches with toothpaste, but depending on the brand, this has limited
effectiveness (you're introducing tons of tiny scratches in an effort to wash
out the big one). I've even tried fine diamond paste (usually used to polish
hard samples for microscopy), which didn't have any effect. Maybe my angle
    on this is all wrong.

Have any of you 'jammers had success with that most troublesome of troubles --
one of your favorite discs is scratched, but you've somehow miraculously
repaired it? I'd love to read your suggestions (maybe CD god Mike Bahr can
give us a few insights)... e-mail me directly, and if I get enough responses,
I'll compile and re-post to to the 'jam.

Thanks for you time and advice!

to the guy who was asking about what 4track portastudio is best
for the buck with bouncing capability: definitely the
tascam 424mxII. one word about bouncing, though: on analog
portastudios, that adds a LOT of noise to your mix, even if you
minimize it the best you can. of course, that doesn't matter
if you are just trying to get basic ideas on tape.

    >Here I go with the Top 10 Favorite Guitarists. No particular rankings/order.

    AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

    >2. Top 10 guitarists - if you don't like it, fuck you -
    >if you've got something better to talk about while we're
    >in the off-season, then talk about it. If
    >you don't like them, then it is my pleasure to introduce you
    >to the "return" key - a marvelous device that takes you past
    >the things you wish to skip.

    AAAAAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!!! ;) and don't forget that ever-so-useful
RIGHT ARROW KEY in the event that you have to expend the effort to
scroll the page to the right! ;) and no, you can't fuck me.

    >Stop sending me stuff!!

people unclear on the concept?.... well, do something about it! ;)
gosh, we have to do EVERYTHING around hear!

    ok, sarcasm mode OFF.

    later,
    matt.
