I heard the AfterLife Cd single, which only has AfterLife on it. the heavy
Metal department at WMCX, my university radio station that I work for, has
it. It is remixed, and sounds really weird. the song even has a true ending.
The drums are very beefy, and to my ears, don't fit the song. But, it sounds
good. They're not sellingit, in fact, they play it on their show once in a
    while.

Speaking of DT on the radio, if you live in the Monmouth County area, and get
WMCX 88.9 f.m. you can hear Dream Theater on the radio. All right, it's only
the big medoly, but it's a start. If you want to hear more than that, tune
into my progressive rock radio show on Saturdays from noon to 3:00.

Speaking of that, I got three calls from females who like prog rock on
saturday. One was in her 30s, but the others were 17 and 24, respectively.
The 17-yeard old requested Emerson Lake and Palmer and Yes, (a 24 minute yes
song to be exact), and the 24-year old requested Xanadu by Rush. Is it wrong
to have gotten their phone numbers? Tell me what you think. Until next time,

Speed metal, Doom metal, Death metal, Thrash, Rock, Metal, Hard Rock,
    Rock-n-Roll, Industrial, Techno, Prog-rock, Prog-metal, Ambient...
    What do they all mean?

Somewhere on the web, I know there's a page that has definitions of about 20 or
so of these different kinds of music out there. Of course, that's just one
person's opinion of what's up, but hey, it's better than nothing.

But my point is, I thought of a cool idea someone could put on their web page.

If you have a huge music collection and are in touch with these words and what
they mean, why not put a page together with music SAMPLES of each different
type of music. So for say, Speed metal, put the quintessential 40 or so
seconds that defines (in your mind) what speed metal is. (Of course, people
will be hounding you, saying you're full of shit and stuff, but that's
expected. Learn to use the DEL key, and you'll be fine.) But wouldn't that be
cool? So when someone says that they're into Doom metal, you at least have a
clue as to what it sounds like.

If such a page exists, LET US KNOW ABOUT IT!!! If not, give it a try. I
would, but I'm afraid my CD collection just isn't massive enough.

If you bother trying, use a LOT of different categories. Not just "Rock",
"Jazz", "Blues", etc. We basically get the gist of those already.

Just thought I'd throw this idea out into the ring to see if anyone reacts to
    it. Any takers?

I listen to the radio conversationas a lot, about how radio sucks. Hey, guys.
If you want to hear good radio, try your local noncommercial college
stations. Any station before 92.1 on the dial is considered noncommercial.
This means they don't have to cater to commercial pressure. My college
station plays a lot of underground alternative, months before other radio
stations get a hold of it. We were playing Blues Traveler back in 1993. We
played Pearl Jam before ten made it huge. Space Hog? Had them first. in
addition, we play bands that haven't quite gotten successful yet. A funk band
called Dag. A band without a guitar player, just bass drums and piano, named
Benfolds 5. And on weekends, we do block shows like Metal, dance music, punk,
Ska, and of course, my progressive rock show. So, if you are sick of radio,
try moving to the left of 92.1 and see what you find. Or stick to your CDs.
But most public radio stations and especially college stations will be much
more free with their formats, and you might even hear progressive music
    somewhere.

I know he's been playing guitar for Deep Purple, and one of his solo albums got a good review in last month's Metal Hammer, so I'm curious to find out more as I hadn't previously heard of him.

Your wish is DT's command. I think it said, on the inside cover of fanzine #9, that the new material will be more radio-friendly.

He is, without question, one of the absolute guitar masters of our time. His versatility and musicality puts most others to shame. He is in the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats and has influenced such great players as Eric Johsnon and our own John Petrucci.

He started out with a band called the Dixie Dregs, kind of a southern rock- blues-fusion band (with a little country pickin' thrown in for good measure) in the 70s. They broke up and Steve went his own way, producing several albums with the Steve Morse Band (check out _Stand Up_, if you can find it, and _Structual Damage_, the latest) and one, _High Tension Wires_ (my personal fav) by himslef (a true solo album). Two years ago, the Dregs reformed and have produced a live album, _Bring 'Em Back Alive_, and a studio album, _Full Circle_. I recomend the live one, which has a lot of dynamite playing from the whole band.

BTW, the Dregs tune "Cruise Control" is part of the Big Medley on ACoS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- "And they call you a genius Jonathan Byrne Cause you're easier to sell West Virginia University But the fire in your belly rri02@wvnvm.wvnet.edu That gave you the songs Is suddenly gone And you feel like a fake." -Steve Hogarth, "King", Marillion

I think you are all wrong on the interpretation of Lie. It's about cats. Well, specifically, it's about kittens who were tossed into a sac and left in a lake to drown. Only one survives and returns to the owners house, begging to be let back in. "Don't tell me you wanted me..." "I'll Try... I swear I'll try..." "Nothing breaks like a broken promise..." Hi all,

I found out that it's gonna cost me a LOT of money to get foreign checks (except European) cashed. You won't believe this : $8 per check! resulting in only $20 payment for me.

I made a deal with Mike Bahr, and from now on (I hope) he will collect the checks, discussed yet. I'll let you all know when he starts collecting my checks! l people who already sent me US checks will get their checks back, so I don't have to pay up $8 per check. All they have to do is write out another check, but to Mike Bahr this time. I have all your names, and don't worry about the low (cd)number, you were the first to pay, so I'll make sure you're still first on the list.

People who haven't payed yet can also go to a local post office and buy an International Money Order BUT! make sure the currency is in Dutch Guilders (fl 42,50 per cd). Masayuki Daigo payed like that from Japan and it didn't cost me anything! If you choose for this option, make sure MY name is on the Money order!

THAT's : Marcel Berkhout Assumburg 46 2402 KT Alphen a/d Rijn The Netherlands

European orders are no problem at all. If you send a Eurocheque and the payment is in Dutch Guilders, it's free of charge.

I expect to start shipping the CD beginning of May.

    Thanks,

I found out that it's gonna cost me a LOT of money to get foreign checks (except European) cashed. You won't believe this : $8 per check! resulting in only $20 payment for me.

I made a deal with Mike Bahr, and from now on he will collect the checks, make one BIG check and send that one to me. That way it will only cost me $8 once. Don't send him checks YET! not all the little details have been discussed yet. I'll let you all know when he starts collecting my checks! (I hope)

The people who already sent me US checks will get their checks back, so I don't have to pay up $8 per check.

    Thanks,

    Marcel Berkhout v932407@si.hhs.nl
