    Attention Jammers!

Thanks to all who forwarded me information on how to join the
Metropolis emailing list. But it has not worked..In fact,
when i sent a "lists" request to listproc@ax.com to see if it was on there
    this what i got back:

    >Here is the current active list of the 2 mailing lists served by this server:
    >
    >freaks@ax.com Marillion/Fish List
    >ytsejam@ax.com Dream Theater List

so what gives? Anyone with specific info on successfully getting onto the list,
please email me. I've already tried sending email to
    metropolis-request@ax.com ..

    Thanks

I think it's gone a bit too far when people get in a multipage
argument about ASCII art. Sure, I agree that the list shouldn't just be
announcements like metropolis@arastar.com, though that list is definitely
useful, but hundred line .sig files are just plain immature. Take that kind
of thing to Email. Maybe announce it and see who wants to have it sent to
them. It's this kinda thing that makes the Jam so unreadable. We get a
couple hundred K of posts a day and instead of being able to browse through
them to get some good info and discussion, we get huge threads of .sig wars
and the relative merits, or lack thereof, of Diet Mountain Dew. You, and
those that make these huge works of "art," apparently have the time to spend
multiple hours in front of the computer screen, and that's fine. But be
considerate enough to keep it private. It allows those who don't have the
time for it, or simply enjoy being in the physical world a few minutes a
day, to read what they find interesting and leave it at that. Hell, I had
.sig wars when I was 14 years old on bbs's. This isn't directed at you
specifically Cat, and isn't meant as flame bait. I'm just asking people to
keep huge posts that are of interest to, at best, a select few on the list,
out of the public domain. Thanks...

Does anybody know if Galactic Cowboys are touring alone or with a
supporting act? They are hitting Tucson on April 3rd, but the show is
being promo'ed as a single bill.

I'm on the third row for the upcoming Ozzy/Sepultura/Marilyn Manson

it's true), it should be a fine, fine show - NOT!!!

O.k....folks. I KNOW that the .Sig turned into a big pile
of horsecrap in digest mode. I know HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT IT.
I can't help but have to laugh at the hundreds of lines
that have been wasted complaining about it when ALL that was
needed was Skadz' reply. All I can say is this....like
yesterday's pizza, this too shall pass. NOW GET OVER IT
ALREADY!! If you want Dream Theater content...start TALKING
    ABOUT DREAM THEATER! Sheesh!
One SERIOUS thing...if you really want to cut down on the
amount of space wasted on your computer....get OUT OF DIGEST
FORM. You'll be able to delete unwanted posts with the
touch of a button and retain ONLY the posts you want. You
can also view Subject and Skip it or delete it if it doesn't
look interesting. It might seem as if it takes a long time
to download so many posts...but it might surprise you about
how much more manageable it is. I've tried both forms and I
think that the Digest form definitely sucks when you're
dealing with the volume of posts the Ytsejam generates.

Just wanted to update you on the JP clinic here in The Netherlands. The clinic
is going to be in Den Bosch, the place is Willem II (which seems to be
down town, nice place with 600 seats and a good cafe'), the date is March 19.
Only thing I do not know for sure its time, anyone has any more info?
On TMA, I went to the gig in Leiden ... what a great show!!! Tamas opened for
them, and that was already a good start. The trio is unbelievable, a bunch of
very talented and gifted musicians. Its impressing to see Tony playing his
guitar with no fret inlays ... not that he needs those, he played 99% of the
show with closed eyes .... the remaining 1% is exactly the amount of time the
bass player actually stood still (the guy is an excellent bass player, and a
very good showman too). Mike Terrana on drums (ex Yngwie Malmsteen) did one
hell of a drum solo, I felt exhausted for him at the end ....

Does playing in an odd time signature mean that you are playing progressive
music? Take Sting's 'Ten Summoners Tales' album for example. The song 7
days is in 5/4 and a few of the others are in 7, but it could hardly be
described as progressive ... or could it?

Does anyone know why when DT recorded Eve, found on The Silent Man CD
single, they didn't include the samples on it as in the version on
Subconscious? I understand that they didn't always use the samples when
playing it live but IMO they add tremendously to the song. Opinions...?

Will anyone be on IRC on Sunday? I'm bringing a couple of my mates across
to use the net at the uni and kinda hoped that there'd be a few of you

I may have a solution or partial solution to the question of whether or not "Space Dye Vest is represented on the cover of Awake. First of all we see a planet, moon, and some stars. This takes care of the "space" part as in outer space. "divest" I took to mean vast or huge and then I realized that I was thinking of "diverse". Then I looked up diverse and it meant a number of different qualities or characteristics. Divest actually means "to deprive as of rights or property" or... "to free or rid of" or... "to sell or otherwise dispose of"

Perhaps Kevin was using a variation of the word diverse to convey that he was "disposed of" by his girlfriend. What this has to do with the cover I have no idea, but there are a "diverse" amount of items on the album cover.

or maybe he was just writing about some clothes......

    Hey Jammers,

Just went looking over Guitar World online, and Ibanez has announced that the JPM100, is now known as the JPM1002 and will be a regular production model! That oughta drop the price a bit, now I have to decide if I want to keep my lovely Ibanez S470, or go for the JPM. I almost definitely can't afford both.

Also, the Jammer (I forget who) who sent a letter to Guitar magazine, when the magazine claimed ACOS was "a trifle over-indulgent", got published. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. Unfortunately when I read the letter in print it sounded very immature. I'm sure this wasn't the Jammers intention, however that's how it appeared to me in print. If somebody could either check out the April issue of Guitar magazine or re-post the letter and tell me what they think, that would be cool. ciao Adam Cook acook@tiac.bet visit me at, http://www.tiac.net/users/com (hard hat construction area!)

To the person who said that Mountain Dew shrinks your nuts, shrink, errr, I mean think again. It doesn't actually SHRINK them, but it DOES lower your sperm count. That is not neccesarily a bad thing, the way like is going. It's almost coming out of my ears, I can't hold it in.....ahhhhhhhhh. Never mind. Hey, pass the Dew..... Icklestick

    Hey,

Recently someone e-mailed me about obtaining a DAT copy of the 12/29 show. Sorry, but I inadvertantely deleted the message, so please e-mail me again.

Since we seem to be running out of topics, I thought I'd try to liven things up with a couple of questions: 1) When was this list formed, and who formed it? 2) Were YOU one of the original members? 3) How many people were on the list when it began?

I hope you don't think this is irrelevant, but I've only been on the jam since the beginning of the year, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is interested.

    Until next time,

    Scott Daugherty

Hi Gang, A friend of mine recently interviewed Geezer Butler, who told her that Black Sabbath would soon be getting a new vocalist ... Rob Halford!!! Ooooooh goodygoodygoody! I REALLY hope this is true. Given that this info comes from Geezer, I expect it is. 8^D

I saw AC/DC in Philly last night - great show, tons o' fun. And I hear tell that Joe Satriani will be at the Electric Factory on Sat. April 13. See ya there!
