Actually, I was planning on having most of the Birch Hill show
appear as "The Darkest of Winters" CD later this year. I would skip the
most common songs in favour of the neat stuff like the medley. Alas, I'd
likely skip either ACOS or Voices for time constraints. I'd still like
to make this happen. Since there's interest, perhaps you'd want to
forward my reply to the Jam? Heck, never mind, I'll do it right now. :)

Hi Ytsepeople,
Ok, so this wasn't actually addressed to me, but since some of the Ytseguys here think the Ytsegals are currently in hibernation (We aren't! Surprise! :> I have a good excuse for not posting lately though, because I've been moving into new digs over the past few weeks.), I thought I should comment on _something_ for Pete's sake... :) So hiya everyone! ::waving:: Remember me? ;)

Mike. Thank you very much. I agree with everything you said about the Beatles, but was really delighted to read of you criticism of Oasis. Living down a corridor of 30ish students I hear the damn stuff coming from most the rooms 14 hours a day and I just want to storm in and say "Can't you hear? They're shit." The whole Oasis-Blur-Pulp-"Britpop" thing is an issue I feel very strongly about and I am wondering when people are going to realise that there is very little musical merit to the songs which are just commercial rip-offs of a by-gone era.

First off, I got $1 right here on Ytsejam #2112 being messed up by a mag SPAM (It would be more, but I'm hoping Skadz gets around to low level moderation by then..........)
About my subject....As much as I'd hate it, I think morning radio should stick to safe poppy, HAPPY crap.....I heard Zappa's Government Mule this morning, and I think I'm in for a paranoid day....the truly scary thing aobut it was this....the DJ made a joke about how he wouldn't "get in trouble" for playing Zappa, because there was a news plug tie-in.....
Of course, I went and brushed my teeth during the commercial, so I missed the news about Zappa....anyone know what it was??
I guess my point is, unless DT does something to get in the news (JL arrested or something), they don't have much of a shot at the airwaves right now...... Partha Mukhopadhyay

Well I went out and bought Master of the Rings from the new Helloween and The Best, The Rest, The Rare of the old Helloween. I guess the old singer is better but the new singer is pretty good. Musically the band has changed as well and sound better on MOR. I bought MOR instead of the Time of the Oath because MOR came with an extra disc. The extra disc is a picture disc and has 3 covers and 4 new Helloween songs.
The covers were: I Stole Your Heart (written by Paul Stanley, this is really I Stole Your Love, just listed wrong. Cold Sweat (by John Sykes, Phil Lynott)--anyone know where this song comes from?
The other cover was something like Coming To My Home by I think Mark Farmer. I didn't recognize the name, but I did recognize the song. It is a song from the 70's.
---- This aol magazine spam is pissing me off. I've sent the header to postmaster@aol and never get a response. The message is coming from aol since the message id is from aol.
The list has got to be made so that only actual subscribers can post. If this means that you can't post from multiple machines then that is just a mild side effect. Most people when they send email have the same from address in the header, no matter what machine they are coming from.
Skadz this has got to be done else there will be spams time and time again.
Plus this is a better solution than banning all AOLers...
Anyone else think we should do this?
When I was on the KISSARMY mailing list they did this and there were no problems whatsoever. No complaints either.
(I got off that list awhile ago since there was too much useless crap)

Touche (sorry, my keyboard doesn't have the fancy accent for emphasis)
Let's consult good old Webster's dictionary and define ironic:
def. relating to, containing, or constituting irony.
Alright, now let's define irony:
the use of words to express something other than and esp. the opposite of the literal meaning or a HUMOROUS OR SARDONIC LITERARY STYLE OR FORM CHARACTERIZED BY IRONY.
That's the image I believe she tried to portray through her song.
You Outta Know (which was a kind of catchy little tune -- for the first 100 listens) has been mediocre at best...
(clearing my throat as I write this) Get past the catchy little tune end of it and listen to the friggin' lyrics. Try to see it from a woman's perspective. Chances are that you have probably encountered a woman that has gone through this experience. A lot of her lyrics are just what goes through a woman's mind when a relationship goes sour...
I bank on the next CD being a major flop. (Go ask Hootie...) :)
I can't even argue this, because I basically agree. It's not always the artist fault though, again I will always place the blame on the record labels that urge the musician to just put something out for the sake of putting it out. > > Sorry, Babs... not picking on you, just venting.... 8^)

Hi All:
Recently I sent a post to the jam about transcribing drum parts for DT songs. However I did not receive many responses. If you'd be interested, email me. Basically what we'd like to do is allocate a song to each participant, then, when you've done as much as you can, send your interpretation to the others for revision and/or completion. Hopefully we can get a nice little catalog of DT drum transcriptions together, and if people really get into it (I hope you guys will) then we could even distribute the completed project to other interested jammers. The people that we DO have are very excited about this and are eager to begin this enormous task!

Whoh! Virtually invented rock? I think not. What about Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Elmore James, Little Richard, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Ike Turner and all the R&B crossovers? If not for these guys, rock, and the Beatles would not exist. Yes, they changed the face of pop music, but they did not invent it. Hi!
Fact is, there are at least some vocal overdubs, and they edited the live tracks a lot, like cutting the talking over the Perfect Strangers intro.
I think it's ok as long as you tell the listener that there are some overdubs and explain the reasons (James was not very well this evening, when you listen to the Japan-PPV-video, you'll see that he had a bad cold this time). That would be honest and you would have best sound quality. But this way it's like pretending a good performance, but half of it was done in studio, and that's not ok, IMHO.
Opinions, anyone? Stephane?

(all in my own opinion). In my own words, we could be > creating a monster, good or bad. What do you all feel about this?? We COULD be creating a monster, that's right. But maybe nothing will come out of this petition and it will all blow over and, in a few months' time, be completely forgotten. I don't see how all this fan involvement could be a bad thing, though. For DT, it could only lift their spirits to see us banding together in an effort to get more of their material released. As for EastWest, I could see why they might get annoyed at some hyperactive fans with nothing better to do with their time:). But the only "bad" thing I see happening (aside from the 2CD idea being quashed) is DT somehow falling out of favor with EW management or just being dropped from the label altogether. Frankly, I don't see that happening. Since when does a band (even with the limited success DT has had in selling albums in the U.S.) get dropped for having a hyperactive fan base? Even if EW does think that perhaps releasing ACoS has gotten us "spoiled", I would think they would be more practical about handling fan demands like this one (example: They could just flat-out refuse, or maybe just refuse and give us some bullshit excuse.). Besides, would EW rather have a passive fan base for DT in the U.S. or an active one? I would think an active one: at least they wouldn't be the only ones promoting DT. I could probably babble on and on, but I'll just say this: I don't see ANYTHING bad coming out this petition deal (except if the 2-CD idea does go thru, then we'll be lucky to get a release by Christmas:). Oh, well.).
Beatles: I think they suck. I certainly wouldn't bother buying any of their albums. I do agree with that one guy (don't remember your name, sorry) who said they should be credited with inventing a lot of shit (stuff about guitar chords or whatever, I'm not a guitarist). So, I give them that much, but not much more.

There has been a lot of talk about IVANHOE recently and I thought I would post this. I have a BRAND NEW (still sealed in plastic) copy of "Symbols of Time" for sale for $15 (or best offer) postage included. This is about $4 cheaper than you can get it from Avalanche Communications here in the US. The reason I am selling it is that someone bought it for me as a gift but I already had it. I have listened to the lyrics, they are fine, if not somewhat contrived to garner attention (it seems like anytime a woman sings a song with some, oh 'bad words' in it, everybody throws a fit... "Oh, listen to the raw emotion...blah, blah blah", remember all the fuss about Liz Phair, where is she now...) Anyway, angst and f'words don't an emotional song make, some of Tori Amos' stuff appears to be rather pleasant piano ditties until you listen to the lyrics, then she'll rip your heart out.... <G>
>A lot of her lyrics are just what goes through a woman's mind when a >relationship goes sour... But it takes real talent to transform those feelings into something other than a screaming rant. How many times can you listen to that before it loses its charm? 10? 20? 100? Whereas a finely crafted song that expresses the same feelings (see Tori or Kate Bush), will never lose it's appeal after repeated listens.... just my perspective. >I bank on the next CD being a major flop.
