    >Such as Lucifer. ;> > >(and that Christopher Walken is just too smooth as seraphim Gabriel.)

That movie kicked major ass. But, after the movie I had Satan's burrito. I went with my brother and a few of his friends, and after the movie we were walking around scaring people (mostly by screaming "I SAW SATAN!" in their faces) and we went to go eat mexican food at at restaurant I'd been to maybe once before. I have a taste for spicy food, so I ordered a particular burrito that had the saying that always catches my eye next to it: Hot 'n Spicy! So, the waiter comes and I give him my order. He says: "How hot do you want that?" I said: "Hot". The waiter said: "Really hot?" I said: "Sure." The waiter said: "Okay." He chuckled a little and walked back into the kitchen. I didn't think much of it, because the majority of Mexican restaurants don't serve really spicy food so that they don't scare/kill the customers. So, time passes and the waiter comes back with our food. I start to take a bite, but then I look up...and three or four restaurant employees are standing in the corner watching me. And laughing. At that point, I was kinda worried. I finally put the fork to the burrito and had a bite. Ow. Nobody told me that they were gonna put habeneros in there. It had to be...nothing else hurts like that. Oh well. It was still good. ;-)

About the movie, though...am I the only one who thought it was strange that the guy who played the devil looked nearly exactly like all the pictures of Jesus I've ever seen?

Because I heard some not-so-good things said about Enchant here a while back, I never picked this one up; however, some good things were said here recently, so I did.

It's pretty cool stuff. But it makes better background music than driving music, if you know what I mean. Sounds like a cross between Yes, Rush and Survivor. %>)>

Those who lean towards metal will have a lesser chance of liking it.

I also picked up the Yes tribute. After a couple of listens, I think I like it a lot. Shadow Gallery's drummer is *the* man. Also, that's the only song done by Magellan that I really like. Of course, I haven't listened to my Magellan CD in a year (or two?), so I might dust it off and give it a spin. It would've been cool if they'd done something from Union, like "Silent Talking" though.

    Hey Kids!!!!!

First things first; Kevin, I can sympathize. I am an Islander fan, nuff said

Bafu was kidding when he said that DT was not influenced by Iron Maiden. Let me take you back in time to 1983. It is a Friday night and my friends and I are hanging out at William T Rogers Jr. High school for recreation night. That night there was a special musical guest performing in the auditorium, CENTURION. The band was playing mostly covers of IM and Judas Priest, and Rush. I remember them playing "The Trooper" quite well. This was shortly after Piece of Mind was released, so I tend to think that the band was heavily influenced by Maiden. For those of you who do not know, John P, and Kevin M were members of Centurion. It's amazing how Bafu can totally scam some of you and you still take his words as fact, He was kidding. Hello again YtseFlamers - I mean, YtseJAMmers!

I want to rant and rave about Threshold for a little while, please. Just got "Psychedelicatessen" and it ROCKS! You should all check this band out - very impressive! I like the singer - Glynn Morgan - he has more of a "rock" voice than many of the other progressive bands' vocalists do, and it goes well with the heavy prog these guys are doin'. Excellent production on the album, as well. (unlike that on Ivanhoe's "Symbols of Time" - I thought it was a little muddy. And while Andy Franck seems to be a very talented singer, my first impression is that the rest of the band needs a little work. Maybe it'll grow on me.) But I digress - Threshold is so good that I just might NOT sue them for using the name of my band in 1972. (Smiley intended but not typed so as not to offend Neil).

Anyway, I got both of these CDs from the Web site of Avalanche Records, for a total of $18.95, including shipping, and this 2-for-1 deal ends tomorrow night (May 31st) so I recommend that you check it out. Several other European bands are featured (I don't know if they're prog, though) such as Mayfair, Black Jester, Airborne, and John Wetton. They also seem to have Saga's entire catalog there.

The web site is at www.bonaire.com.

DTC - It seems that a lot of prog bands have sprung up lately - is it because Dream Theater has had some success with the form, or is that a little naive? Reading Shadow Gallery's bios, I noticed that most of the musicians cited DT as an influence. And of course Superior mentioned the Ytsejam in the "behind" booklet. I'd like to think that some very fine musicians who might have been playing alternative, or metal, are now in progressive bands thanks in part to our beloved Fab Five.

    Thasall fa now,

    Sir Reality

Off to order Threshold's "Wounded Land" and anything else I can find by them . . .

    Howdy,

Correction Man strikes again: " Yeah, I can't wait! I heard they're calling this tour "All Fans Will Be Crushed" or "Time To Die" or something to that fucking hostile extent.

Hmm. Rutger Hauer also said that in Bladerunner, but who needs more quotes? "

Actually, it was the other male Replicant, who I think was called Leon, who said this to Harrison Ford. Now that I think about it, I think Rutger Hauer may have also said this at the very end, but I forget for sure and I don't have my Blade Runner script handy. . .(where the heck did that get off to. . .?)

Another movie, on that Revelations thread, that you all should watch, is The Rapture, with Mimi Rogers (and David Duchovny, in a pre-X-Files role). This is one of those movies where if you watch it fresh without reading the box summary or reviews, you WILL BE BLOWN AWAY! Even if you know what it's about, it's still an awesome flick! And thanks for the good word on The Prophecy, I was thinking about renting that myself. Question: Is that the one with Scott Bacula, or is that a different movie?

Since I never mention Dream Theater in my posts anymore, there, I just did! :) Does anyone know if John Petrucci is giving a clinic in the NYC area anytime soon?

    Party on,

    DJKA

    Hey gang,

Martin, you should give Yngwie another listen! Granted, his last 18 albums haven't exactly been oysters full of songwriting pearls(yes, I made that up! :) ), but he certainly is a finer player than a lot of people give him credit for. His early material is absolutely brilliant, and I saw him in concert fairly recently ('94) and he put on a great show. I think it's become trendy to rag on him, partly thanks to the imitators who really DO suck. For ye who started the 10 favorite guitarists thread:

    1) Steve Howe 2) Alex Lifeson 3) Steve Morse The rest aren't in order: Frank Zappa Yngwie Malmsteen (How'd you guess?) John Petrucci Jimi Hendrix Brian May Eddie Van Halen Jimmy Page

And, I would like to cast a negative vote for Eric Clapton, who has churned out mostly garbage and pap for the past 25 years. I once heard or read a guitarist say in an interview that he learned to play because his father told him "Listen to Page and listen to Beck, but Clapton sucks", or something along those lines. I forget who this was, can anyone remember? I think Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top plays with as much feeling as Clapton ever did, but gets 1/100 the credit for it.

John Petrucci is kind of borderline. . .do I REALLY like him better than Vai or Satriani or Beck? Tough to say, his music as a whole definitely does more for me, and since this is the YTSEJAM, he gets the benefit of the doubt! :) (And 'cause I met him and he was really nice!)

    Party on,

    DJKA

PS I almost forgot to vote for . . .ME! Somebody's got to, right? :)
