    Howdy. A few things.

1: The new CD's. I've gotten the new King's X and Soundgarden, and i was
impressed by them both. With the King's X, it's more of a _gretchen goes
to nebraska_ feel, which i happen to like. They all sing on this one,
and there's something for everyone. The Soundgarden i like better than
_Superunknown_, and it'll take some time for it to grow on me.

D-Man: You're my jester. Get used to it. =)

I was listening to Rush's Presto yesterday, and i've figured that i like
the disc, preferably alot better than i thought i did. Put on
    Superconductor. The fucker rocks.

Bafu, Bafu, Bafu! <Mike watches as Bafugeist appears>

Syrinx has spoken, so it shall be law.

Yo Everyone,I just picked up D.T.'s"When Dream And Day Unite".I've been
seeing it for a while, but was to cheap to pay the 20 or 30 dollars for
it.While looking for Steve Howe's "Homebrew",I came across it for
$8.99.Not a bad deal.I noticed it was on One Way Records. For those Yes
fans, this is the label you can find some old Peter Banks releases.

Anyway, after listening I figured out how this deal got it's name-
YTSE JAM-awesome song by the way.My question is:What's up with this
Charlie Dominici guy doing the vocals?I started getting into D.T. when
I.and W. came out.I always read that was the first release from this
band, and still do on here from time to time.Looks like it's time for a
history lession. For those wanting to talk about the band,I guess this
might be the time to start doing so.For myself,I'm kinda new to this
deal. The good old talks about this great band on here, looks like it's
been done to many times before.Hope someone has interest to get back on
    this. Hanging
    in Houston Town-G.B.

I tend to agree with the person who wrote that rhythm can not be taught. I
took three years of music in college before I realized...I better head for the
computer courses! You can teach someone to become "mechanical" with a
metronome, but some people just have that...groove....where they can just feel
it and jam along to whatever the time signature is.

I know it's almost heresy to counteract something that Bafu said...

But, I don't know where you got DT saying that they've never heard of
Iron Maiden. I remember reading an article with John Petrucci in
some guitar magazine. The article was where they played songs for a
guest guitarist, and the person talked about it.

For JP, they played some Rush, some other stuff I can't remember, and
a Maiden song. I remember him saying something like he liked it
growing up, or something. Anybody have that article laying around??

So, I'm sitting here programming away, listening to "Awake". I'm in the zone--solid code spews from my fingertips. Suddenly, I'm stopped cold by a bit of lyrical "insight" I don't think I've seen mentioned on the 'Jam before:

You tell me 'bout your two more coming but once is just enough for me

from "Lie". Others have suggested children--"twins on the way, but they're not mine". But this sounds like she's saying, "you still owe me two more out of three promised/owed." It doesn't answer _what_ is owed (although the crass side of me wants to say 'orgasm').

Hmm.. now the entire song takes on a tone of someone looking back on a one-night stand that they regret either just because he feels ashamed, or the person turned out to not want it be a "no strings attached" event. "Mirror" is him wallowing in his shame, and "Lie" is the flashback.

Whoa. I don't usually analyze lyrics even this much. I wonder what those songs will mean to me next week. Anyway, back to programming, where I _know_ what things mean.

Please check this for accuracy. It's getting to be crunch time, so we're going to have to know fairly soon. :)

***IMPORTANT*** If you plan on needing a hotel room for Con weekend, please let me know as soon as possible! We get cheaper rates and stuff, the more rooms we get. But, if you tell us at the last minute, we won't get those cheap rates. So, please get those requests in now. (The earliest responses get the best views of the airport. :)

YtseCon III Attendees List Name <e-mail address> D/P + x D/P = I'm definite/possible and my x friends are definite/possible. Please check your name, address, and number of people attending for accuracy. Report problems to me, Chris Merlo, at d-man@dreamt.org or cmerlo@cs.uvm.edu.

I will NOT assume that you are or are not going, depending on where you live, or how long you have known me. If you plan to attend YtseCon III, and your name is not on this list, e-mail me and tell me explicitly that you plan to attend.

Also, please remember that I'm not in charge of the Ytsecon. I'm just collecting names. Jeff Chew (jc309@columbia.edu) is the man to ask administrative stuff (like, "When is the Con? Where will it be held?"). As it seems, the Con will be held in Queens, New York on the Saturday before Columbus Day, 10/12/96.

Speaking of Revelation, if you're in the mood for an extremely well-done movie about the tale of what happens AFTER Revelation (at least, according to the Bible of a deceased angel), check your local Blockbuster for "The Prophecy." Loads of witty religious references, philosophies, and rather intriguing reasonings as to why things happen as they do. No cheesy script and a fairly believable ending.

In an effort to get the next issue of Metropolis Watch out *on time* for once, I'm trying to get as much written as possible ahead of time, and so this Dragon does humbly request assistance from the Jam. :)

My first question: other than "Raise the Knife," do any of you know titles of any of the other new songs that have been written? Supposedly there are at least six. Stiphane Auzilleau mentioned a piano ballad in a post a while back, but I've since forgotten that title. I know Petrucci and Portnoy played some new material at their clinics, so I'm hoping some of you who attended to them paid attention to any titles, if given, and can provide me with a brief description of the music as well.

Secondly, does anyone know the name of the LaBries' daughter and the day she was born?

Thirdly... if there are any good underground prog/power metal bands you'd like to see reviewed, *anyone* is more than welcome to write a review and I'll print it; or, if you can hook me up with a CD/tape, I'll review it myself. Reviews of the clinics are welcome as well. Please, feel free to contact me, even if you don't think you're a particularly good writer - I'm not an editor without reason! The more I have to include, the better...

If anyone else has any up-to-date DT news that I might be missing (be it now or a month from now), speak to me! Particularly if you find out who the new producer will be, when the band finds one to replace the inimitable Kevin Gilbert.

I don't have a set deadline, but the end of June would be preferable so I can have the issue out by mid-July...

    Muchos gracias, muchachos. ;)
