    Hey...

I just got I&W-Live in Tokyo (is there an abbreviation I don't know? :)).
Wow... As if you all didn't think so already. :) I'm just curious. It
took me some searching to find it. Anyone know if the Laser Disc is still
available? Do "they" still make the VHS tape?

Oh, BTW, for anyone still trying to get their paws on it...I got mine at a
Suncoast Video place in a SF Bay Area Mall.

    Hi,

Sorry to trouble everyone but I really have to unsubscribe from the
Ytsejam, however, repeated attempts have proved unsuccessful. I get an
error that I'm not subscribed as my email address. I got a couple of
responses telling me how to unsubscribe and I followed the directions a
number of times. I attempted to change the address but that didn't work.
    Can someone please unsubscribe me?

    Thanks

    G.A.S. UPDATE!!!

We are almost through the month of May, and the number of G.A.S.
participants has only reached 80! We've lost a lot of momentum with respect
to the goal of 100 'jammers. For those of you who haven't yet participated,
I would greatly appreciate your joining forces in this, in the little time
we have left, as I find it interesting to know where the general interest
of the YtseJam as a whole lies.

*** For those who still don't know what the G.A.S. (Great American Survey -
title tentative) is all about, I'm compiling all of the Ytse-jammers
personal Top 10 bands/artists lists to find out which bands/artists are the
most popular among those subscribed to the Jam.

Top 10 lists (that can, but don't have to, include DT) can be E-mailed to:

    syoung@primenet.com

and will be received until May 31st, at 11:59pm. Lists will be tallied and
a non-DT band/artist will be crowned on June 1st (my wife's birthday), and
complete results (ALL bands/artists received and number of votes) will be
posted on or about that day.

*** I STILL need to hear from BOGIE and ADAM COOK - you guys only left me
five bands to work with - help!

*** Also, let's not send in TWO entries, please (Mr. Runde), though, I
    highly appreciate your enthusiasm.

*** I have received two votes for "My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult" -
now, are these two separate bands, or is that really the bands name? I saw
them on "The Crow" soundtrack and I'm assuming that they are two groups
that collaborated on a song, being mistaken for one group with a long name
    - Any Thrill Kill Kult fans out there to support me on this? I really need
    to know.

    ------------------------------

Current Top 5 (non-DT) as of 5/27/96, out of 80 participants and 262
    bands/artists received:
    1) Queensryche (44 votes)
        Rush (44)
    3) Fates Warning (31)
    4) Metallica (22) -> New CD out in 1 week!!!
    5) Savatage (17) -> First appearance in the Top 5.
        Yes (17)

*** King's X, and Shadow Gallery are also strong contenders for a spot in
the Top 5. Others with 10 or more votes: Tori Amos, Extreme, Galactic
Cowboys, Iron Maiden, Marillion, and Van Halen.

3 days left before the deadline - we're running out of time real fast like
    - We're still shooting for 100 participants and we still lack 20.
So, get out and vote, you guys.
    C'mon, it'll be fun!
Muchos thankos to those who have played the game already - you guys rule.

*** Also, get ready for an added feature to the G.A.S. that should be
pretty interesting - we're going to find out who the most common and most
unique 'Jammers are. Stay tuned for details.

*** Scored the new King's X last week - disappointed at first, but the more
I have listened, the more I have enjoyed it - King's X fans, pick it up!

Well, as the subject says... at long last, I have some free time, so
I'm back... for those of you who don't know me... I was one of the
origionals on the origional Ytsejam... from pre-arastar.com days...
almost 3.5 years ago... Anyway... alot of you have probably seen my
DT web site... although I am thinking of doing some major overhauls
to it... try to get it a little better looking, etc...

Anyway, I resubscribed, and so far, have seen almost no DT content at
all... is there really nothing to talk about? I mean, the old
lyrical debates grew old... but at least they were DT related...
Anyway, if any of the old members feel like discussing anything...
    email me privatly...

The rumors that I don;t like DT anymore, and that I have stopped
trading are untrue... I still have my collection, only seldomly trade
since I already have too many tapes to listen to and videos to watch,
and mostly listen to CDs... And I do in fact still love DT... I just
had to let everything settle down... I ended up TAing both semesters
last school year, and between that, graduating, decideding to stay
another year at Brandeis for my masters, etc... I didn't have time
time... Anyway... just wanted to let the familiar faces know that
    I'm back...

For those of you who don't know of my DT page, it is located at:

Well said. Skadz, ever consider putting together an opening letter to new subscribers including posts like this one? Some extended ground rules and summaries of the local etiquette from other subscribers would be a bit more informative and helpful than that thing Ken Bibb put together so long ago.

hmmmmm......perhaps i should try and restrain myself. after all, i'm a reasonably well mannered adult. perhaps Mr. King simply misunderstood my post. after all, he DID leave out the following portion from my email:

    >but like i said, that's just been in my experience. i never said that was >the rule, or that it was a fact written in stone.

i thought i made myself pretty clear there DAVE. i didn't say that rhythm *couldn't* be taught. i said that in my 18 years of playing i've never seen it happen.

    ah, fuck it.

i don't know what your fucking problem is, but i'm tired of it. your initial response to my initial email led me to believe that you misunderstood what i meant. so i was then kind enough to post ANOTHER GODDAMNED MESSAGE to clear things up. and what do i get? i fucking flame just because i misspelled a word, and you STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I SAID!

you are one of the few people that has seriously pissed me off in a long time and you are goddammned lucky we're not in the same room right now.

    go fuck yourself Mr. King.

and BTW, if you wish to carry this bullshit any further, please contact me via private email. i think the jam has seen enough of your bullshit.

this is a message addressed to all the jammers that have been bitching lately about typos, grammar, and such.

    get a life.

we're all here for the same reason. i realize that DT isn't gonna have the next album out as soon as we'd like, but lighten the fuck up. this isn't a goddamned english class. we're here (at least we SHOULD be) to speak casually about music and such. some people (such as myself) work anywhere from 60-80 hours a week and get awful tired. by the time i get home and get a chance to check my email, i'm lucky if i can even see the monitor, much less spell RHYTHM correctly.

i think i speak for most of the jam when i say GROW UP.

    >Rhythm: now THAT'S a fucked up word....And OK it's hard to get unless >you've GOT it in your veins from the start. But, Andrew, spelling CAN be >taught.

    HA!

    >He was about as average as Michael >Crawford! > Ugh. That guy has a seriously wimpy voice. Well, at least he does for EFX.

Mike Bahr...are you actually going to tell us the secret? Or just let us suffer? Either way, cool. :-)

    >>Why does he get writers credit for all the songs, then? > >Everyone in Dream Theater gets credits for the music. That's it.

Even if they didn't write it? That's plagiarism. :-)

    >you know, is he just dicking with me or is he telling the truth? is this >true jammers? am i more ignorant than a dumbass?

I'm getting sick of reading a million stories about encounters with people who don't happen to be large DT fans. So fuckin' what? I imagine that there aren't too many rap fans on the list.....do legions of Snoop Doggy Dogg fans come knocking on our doors saying we suck because we don't like him? Who's the immature one here?

    >Hey, what the krunk is this? (!!!)

    Krunk? Heeheeheeheehee.

    Shoogelfloppers!

    >> Sorry but I think this is outright racism.

Ha! Nobody said that only black and Latino people had rhythm and everybody else didn't or vice versa. Unless people with rhythm are a whole race now....

    >"Ferocious, aren't I?" > --Al Pacino, "Heat"

"Heat". Now that was a seriously intense movie.....but that's okay, because the bank is worth the risk.

    > The fourth group are people like one of my neighbors, who happened to > hear "Silent Man" or "Another Day" soemtime, fell in love with it, and > eventually let her neighbor play The Mirror/Lie after TSM. :) These > people generally like Mariah Carey and other such nonthreatening pop.

I was a Top 40 freak once. Then Metallica happened. Then drumming happened. Then Mike Portnoy happened. Then Dream Theater happened. Then this fucked up list happened. :-)

    >Twister

Wee don't neeeed no steenkeeng plot!

    >BTW, Am I the only one that thinks the new Metallica single sux bigtime?

Yes. And, Foo Fighters suck. They suck shit through a straw.

    >This trend will continue with Precious Things. I don't plan to >open orders on this for a while yet, but the price will be $18. More to >come in the near future!

Cool. Cheap for guys like me. Hey....what happens if we ignore the part about orders not being open yet and we send you money?

    >Heehee.....remember The Three Caballeros? >

No, but I remember Chris Caballero. He was this really cool skateboarding d00d back in my wimp-rap (M.C. Hammer) era.

Tony Hawk could ollie really high.

    >No tongue-jokes about "Species," please.

Ha! Hey....that got nominated for best kiss on the MTV movie awards. Heeheehee.
