sorry to post this here, but there may be some jammers trying to
email me and getting their mail bouncing back...

earthlink cancelled my account for no reason. well, none that they
can come up with yet. it's a rather long story that i won't go
into here. i just wanted to say that if anyone was trying to
contact me at subtlerage@earthlink.net, don't bother at the moment.
    i'll be at subtlerage@gnn.com for a bit.

I have been a loyal DT fan for over four years now and I have been a silent
but faithful ytse-jammer for a year and a half now. I recently took a job at
Ticketmaster of Washington/Baltimore for about 5 months this year. During
which I learned a lot about the way tickets are sold and priced. And I would
like to share some of my expierience with fellow jammers. Especially in
light of the current Rush and impending DT tours.
First of all Ticketmasters Convenience charges and Handling Fee are neither
wacky or out of line. It is my experience that ridiculous pricing and
deception is the domain of the auto repair industry(MERCHANTS!!!)
Ticketmaster makes all of their money on these charges, not on the price of
the tickets themselves. Ticketmaster is providing you with a service and
asks just 3 or 4 dollars in return. If you don't like the service charge
then get off your ass and buy your tickets at the venue's ticketwindow.
Ticketmaster is a money saver if you consider the amount of money you spend
driving to the venue and the time you spend in line. Not to mention that it
is Ticketmaster's system that makes it possible for us to buy tickets for out
of state shows without driving to Birch Hill or Hammerjacks or the San Diego
    Sports Arena.
Ticketmaster is also the responsible for slowing down scalpers. If it
weren't for those 6 ticket limits they impose on us. It would be impossible
for any of us to go to a big show like Metallica or Neil Diamond without
paying whatever the scalpers want. Ticketmaster is like rent control for
ticket sales. And all they ask is an additional few dollars per ticket, as
opposed to Joe Scalper Ticket Sales who mark up their Tickets 200% or more.
Well enough bandwidth for me tonight. Email me if you have any questions or
comments about TM. I'd be happy to answer and questions from the Jam.
    See ya at the shows

            Uh, that is, take note.

First off, sorry to all for my snippy reply. I don't mean for the
Jam to go downhill. I had just gotten done fighting with Melissa and I
took it out on the Jammers... my apologies. I shouldn't have done it.

Secondly, the new album has a title. I have to let those who have
permission say it first, though... watch your Jams carefully for the next
    few days or so.

Thirdly, and most importantly, I have a great deal for any budding
new bands out there.... I have to sell Scoobaca's PA equipment since the
band broke up. I'll sell it so cheap your head will spin... I just need to
convert it into cash as opposed to just putting it in storage for time
eternal. My misfortune can become your band's great luck.

All this stuff is MINT... we took excellent care of it. Everything works
perfectly. It was all bought within the last year so it's current.

DIGITECH 300-watt power amplifier... new $750, buy mine and it's $300.
This thing kicks ass, folks. PURE power. Lots of it. Rackmountable.
MACKIE multichannel soundboard... new $1000, buy mine and it's $400.
Has 3 XLR ins, 10 1/4" in, direct effects, tape stuff, etc.
Small enough to carry to gigs, good enough that every club band has one
    FENDER 100-watt bass amp 1x15"... new $500, buy mine and it's $200.
Pretty much utility for any bassist, this gets the job done. It can
power a slave amp or be a slave to another, and has EQ onboard.

All of these include assorted cables and they all have power
supplies. This is pro-gear... we played small clubs and parties with it
earlier this year before we lost our original singer.

            Take it easy everybody!

In digest 1981, Pat Daugherty asked:

    >>What do Jammers think of Journey? How about the new Journey?

Journey has always been a fav of mine. I've been into Journey since I was a
kid of around 8 or so.

That kind of fits that topic of "It came from the 80's". I pretty much grew
up on the 80's stuff, Journey included of course, and to this day I still
love most of it! Heh, watching part of that show on MTV really got me
laughing. I saw all those bands I used to listen to and stuff, like
Warrant, Dokken, etc. I thought they were the greatest thing back then!
Now it's like oh my God, look at their hair and stuff! It was just too
funny :) But it was cool to see that show, it brought back some memories :)

Back to Journey, I heard their new song on the radio a few times. I really
can't think off hand what it's called, but they've been playing it on the
easy listening station I have on at work. I do like it, I'm going to look
for the cd. That's really the only song I've heard off of it so far, so I
can't really comment much on the new cd yet. But I know that old Journey is
great, and from this song, they still sound great. I've heard some of the
solo projects too... Steve Perry's "For the Love of Strange Medicine" is
pretty good, and then Jonathan Cain's "Piano with a View" is great! It's
like easy listening, jazz sounding. It is one of my favorite cds, really.

Well, it's great to see that Journey's still around and all. I'm definitely
going to look for this cd. I hope they'll be around for a while :)

    Take care all :)

I just read a couple posts a while back about Metal possibly returning to
popularity. Could this be true? I did catch part of the eMpTyV reruns of
"It Came From the 80's", as a matter of fact, I think it was on like 3
times. Are they trying to light a fire in some of us, and give us hope?
Or are they merely putting the shows on to show us what a sideshow circus
freak decent music has become in the eyes and ears of the lame, narrow
    minded public?
And about Poison's new album being dropped due to "Lack of
Market" If that isn't the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Why
don't they put the album out themselves?
Heck! We jammers should unite, and start our own record label!
Just think, most of us play instruments or are already in bands! WE could
being metal back! Hell, it's a looney idea, isn't it? But it just might
    work...:)

    Chris

P.S. How many jammers have checked out the band Clockwork yet? I have the
demo tape of "Weaving Webs of Time" and it kicks total ass. Everyone
here really MUST check these guys out. The "Reflections" song on the DREG
records compilation album is only a section of Weaving Webs. By itself it
rocks, but the whole song is just unbelievable.

You know, I don't post to the jam too often. Only when something really catches my eye, I generally just skim and lurk.

Well, I have to say that I'm really getting tired of reading these posts from jammers complaining that the Ytsejam sucks, and that they don't know why they haven't unsubscribed yet, etc. For God's sake, if you hate it that bad, then unsubscribe! Mojoman did it, and so did Mirth! In case you don't know how and didn't bother to read Skadz's posts, to unsubscribe:

    In subject line type: asdf

Then in the body just type: unsubscribe ytsejam

And of course send it to ytsejam-request@ax.com

    It's as simple as that.

I don't mean to sound like this and all, it's just that it is annoying reading that stuff. And it's stuff like that that people sit and complain about.. useless posts! I know that I don't like a lot of stuff on the jam either, I just skim thru them now, and read whatever I feel like reading. If I feel the digests are taking up room, I click on the little delete button on my e-mail program. It's not like I'm stuck with these here on my computer forever.

Right now, even though there is a lot of stuff that doesn't interest me, there still is stuff that does, and I really like the people. But if in the future I really feel this is a waste of time, then I will unsubscribe without posting to the jam telling everyone off or that it sucks, etc. That really isn't necessary. Meanwhile, I hope things get better and that more people are happy with the jam, but if you're not, just leave. No one is stopping you.

This always blows my mind. How can a band who has had three multi-platinum albums and one gold album ("Native Tongue" went gold and was released in '93) suddenly have no viable market? Granted the audience has been reduced, but I'm sure the new Poison album would have made at least made more money than some of the shit one-hit-wonder-jumping-on-the-bandwagon crap that is getting signed right now. It's a shame too. "Crack A Smile" is an amazing piece of work.

    Exactly.

I not only base these words in > opinion, but it is clear when we see such bands as Milli Vanilli, or 4 > non blondes selling millions of records. This is marketing at its > finest, we are being fed this massive dose of nothing, and we are eating > it and asking for more.

Once again, you hit the nail right on the head.

What I'm trying to say is that, most companies > just don't want to put good money on true tallent, so they would much > rather spend it on CRAP, yes my friends, nothing but > CCCCCRRRRRAAAAAAAPPPPPPPP!!

I have to disagree with you here slightly. Talent is not in issue to record labels (trust me). What matters is the probability of profit. A&R guys (and gals) sign bands not because they necessarily like them, but because they think there is an audience for it. I mean, think about it: let's say you're an A&R person. You are only allowed to sign a handful of bands per year. Logically, your reputation, and thus your career, is at stake with every band you sign. Therefore, what are you going to do: sign a band with true talent or one which is in vogue at the moment? We all know what the answer should be, but that is not reality.

Hi, I'm a keyboardist looking for a synthesizer (or a sampler - (dis)advantages?). Any suggestions? Keep in mind I ain't made of money (pails, snails, and puppy-dog tails more like), so price would be a factor here. Also, this would be a "primary" instrument, not just another piece to add to a rig (were it that I *had* a rig... <sigh>).

    Thanks for your time,

Hi, I'm Bert, and I'm a keyboardist myself. I bought a KORG X-2 about a year ago, and it's really the best. It's fully MIDI compitable, and with it's 76 keys it's a perfect master keyboard. It's got a 16 track 24,000 note sequencer, 200 program presets, 128 GM programs, and 200 combinations of programs in split and/or layer mode. I bought it for 4120 guilders, wich would be like 4120 / 1.70 = ehm... 2400 to 2450 US dollars. There's also the KORG X-3 with 61 keys, which is the same, but the X-2 has some extra (great!) piano sounds. Just thought that I would give my opinion on the Spock's Beard CD. Some have mentioned this on recent jams and it was a MP recommended disk. This is great stuff for those who appreciate an eclectic mix of rock and fusion. There is no real metal here. Yet this is definitely prog with intelligently written songs (4 songs, 57 minutes). Highly recommended for the fore-mentioned target audience.

I've been reading over the past few jams and I am pleasantly surprised that some people are standing up for their favorite metal band of the 80's. I am a huge fan of most 80's rock and metal, as most of my friends know and unfortunately laugh at. I have to say that as everybody on this list already knows, the musicianship from this era was so much higher than 90% of today's popular music (based on eMpTyV) I have to say though I was never a huge fan of Poison, but I have been tempted to pick up their album that Richie Kotzen played on. I think it was Native Tongue. But I am a huge, probably the #1 fan of White Lion. I collect everything and everything about the band. I think they were great and still are. They are outstanding musicians who get bagged on just because they were from the 80's. They never really played with time signatures too much but they were still somewhat mystifying. They are extremely underrated, unfortunately. However, some of the members have been keeping busy. The bassist, James Lomenzo is playing with Zakk Wylde, The drummer, Greg D'Angelo plays occasionally with Zakk, the pin-up singer, Mike Tramp started his own band called Freak of Nature. They have a hard groove which is raw and powerful while Mike sings in a register of a normal person. Unfortunately, the guitarist, Vito Bratta is nowhere to be found. He's probably in a ditch somewhere pouting over the death of White Lion. Hopefully soon he will put out a solo album because he is a wicked player. I also saw Warrant this past summer with Slaughter and Vince Niel. I liked Warrant the best live. They played their older songs but with the few they did from DRFST, they put odd times in the songs. I was like, "These guys kick ass!!!" Even though they didn't really play on their first album, they have come a long way as musicians. Now, as a matter of fact they are becoming a lot more mainstream in the sense that they are getting away from party metal, to playing hard-edged, guitar-driven, alterno-metal. Ultraphobic was an awesome album with awesome grooves. Most of the era's bands are still making music in one format or another and they still are great musicians. As far as Dream Theater goes, they will always kick ass and I cannot wait until December 13th. I will be surrounded in awesome music without a worry in the world, at least for a couple of hours anyway! Sorry for the long post but its been a long time coming. Rush-November 9th!!!!! D-man, your points are well-taken. I suppose for me, the 80s stuff has been re-prioritized in my life, not removed. I remember last week, doing research for my paper on Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643- 1704), I absolutely HAD to go home and put on Look What the Cat Dragged In. Then it was Too Fast For Love and Shout. Boy that was fun for two hours.
