It's just got the edit and album version on it. I think that's what
everyone else's has. It the US release. I think they might not have had
an official release of the single since i havent seen one yet. only
promotional copies. can anyone confirm this?

    Hello Jammers,

I haven't posted in about 55 jams, (or a couple of days, who is
counting?) <grin> Just a few things of note to bring up:

    DT Fan Club Packet
    ------------------
Thanks to Neil for finally getting the fan club in order. His takeover
has finally set things straight. Great stuff inside, a copy of the
Images and Words zine, an autographed poster, ACOS promo card, and lots
of teasers for future things. Anybody who hasn't joined, get off your
    ass and sign up!

    Rush Concert
    ------------
I saw Rush at the US Air Arena in LAndover, Maryland. It was the best
concert to this date by them that I have witnessed. It beat the shows
from the last four tours! The video is finally in synch (it took them
six years!) and the playing was incredible. Natural Science and 2112 (in
its entirety) were the highlights for me. These guys are so damn
    impressive!

    Neil Peart's Comments
    ---------------------
OK, in some of Neil's interviews in the past he has been quite abrasive,
it could be that this is just another of those. I personally don't see
why Rush should even care about the tribute album, I have kept to my word
though and I haven't picked up Test For Echo because of their view
towards the artists on Working Man, for whom I have a great deal of
respect. I still think the whole situation has to do with the band's
dislike for popularity/fame. I always get the feeling that they just
want to perform and not be concerned with being the idols of thousands
    and thousands of people.

    Later,

    Mike

somebody asked about boot with gc singing with dt.

as far as i know, most if not all of the summer '93 dates where
gc opened for dt had the guys on ttt. also, they joined the band
for ttt in housotn on 11/18/94. those were probably all the times.

there are many many tapes of these summer '93 shows, and some of them
are on cd. there is also a good video from san fran 6/5/93 i believe.

the DAT of 11/18/94 with them on ttt is pretty good, too...

    >That's all I have to say, find a new premise and continue your argument :)

Y'know, I hate the way these "legality" arguements always seem to get nasty.
I used the comedy bit as such: a funny example. What happens? Someone brings
    in the Hitler bit.

I get the impression that no matter what premise I use to support my
arguement, someone is still going to insist that it isn't wrong: I could
have proof that bootlegging causes the death of baby seals, or depletes the
ozone layer, or anything like that, and I'd *still* get the reponse "But
    that doesn't mean it's *wrong*".

Look, I established that it is against a contract to bootleg, and that it is
against the law to bootleg. If people still want to insist that that doesn't
make it wrong, there's really nothing more to say. Our values must be too
different to have a meaningful debate.

Don't get me wrong - despite the position I've presented, I'm FOR the
    distribution of live recordings. :)

Well not to rain on your parade or anything but I don't exactly fit into
your little generation X time-line(by a year and half). And no I don't do
drugs. How would you know about my short attention span. Have you been
spying on me when I'm listening to ACoS? or a movie that lasts 2 or more
hours? or when I'm reading a Brian Lumley book(which are on average about
500 pages), which are longer than most TV guides(which is probably the only
book you regularly read). And about that Voltron question don't worry I
watched that show too. I guess since I watched that show my attention span
is as long as yours is.

You need to get a hold of yourself. First off the above is to show you how
dumb your post was. Now I know your new to jam because otherwise you would
know that some posters are under 19. And being one of them I don't like you
making fun me by my age. Because it just shows *your* ignorance. I don't
really care if you take offense by someone calling me a "X-er" because you
know it has *nothing* to do with you. And also what gives you the almighty
right to said you're better than someone else. I was reading(yes people
under 18 read) a book by this minister. And he was talking about how why do
people have to put down other religion to better your own. While you know
your suppose to get something what of books that you read. And this is what
I get out of it. Don't compare yourself or anything related to you by
anything else, and you'll always have an open mind, and you won't be
    offending anyone else.

    Jam alongs,
Sorry, that greeting sucks, but I never know what to call all of
you-maybe just a HEY will do.

I got lucky last Thursday and ran across the German version of
LATM. As you know, it has Surrounded instead of Another Day. What I
was wondering is, is the booklet different than the Japanese version?
It definitely was cheaper-$16 as compared to $27 for the Japanese.
While I was at short circuit city, they had restocked on TSM single.
As far as I know, it's still there. If anybody wants it, I'll go get
    it. Cost is $10 +postage, I guess about $2. I don't know, I've never
mailed a CD before. Email me on this if you want it (stand back,
here comes a flood of mail). Or, someone could trade something else
for it, I'm open. Of course, I haven't bought it yet but I think
it'll still be there. LATM was there for over a month and I still got
it. There aren't too many DT fans around here that I know of.

Speaking of TSM, the TTT demo, someone said they didn't hear the MP
'screwup' on it. Maybe I should've said timing error. It is during
the bridge just before 'I can see much....' It may not be an error
but it sounds like he dragged his kick drums there. Or maybe not.

Spock's Beard would be a great opener for DT. I have the CD and,
although it is very different from them, think it's one of my faves.
Also it is because they are so different from DT that I think they
would be very good as an opener. They're still very much prog just in
    a different direction.

Our server is 'just being a dick' right now and is telling me it's
nearly out of space. So I guess I'll go home-and space :>

When I was at LaGWARdia Airport the Sunday after Ytsecon III waiting
for the bus to Jamaica Station, I saw a band emerge from the terminal
and wait for their band to drive up, then they loaded their luggage
and stuff into it and drove off. I never quite got up the courage to
ask them who they were, but damnit, I'm still curious. :)

Could some of you NY folks check around and see what fairly-major
bands were playing in the area that night, or maybe Monday? Seemed
like there was one white guy (looked a bit like Charlie Benante from
Anthrax) and the rest were black. They'd have to be semi-major
because they flew in, as opposed to riding in their tour bus, and the
van was a new-looking rental van. They had a very "tour"-looking
chap, presumably their tour manager, with 'em.

This would have been Sunday October 13th, possibly Monday the 14th.
    Thanks!

    ><The way I see it, the band is making money from the actual >performance.>

Here's the thing that gets me, though... How come I pay for a ticket, my right to admission, but I can't tape anything or take photographs, even if it's solely for my own use? Didn't I buy the right to that experience? There are other businesses that allow me to create mementos of my visit for personal, non-commerical use.

Ahh, good point. I stand corrected. I was under the impression that those rights pertained to the *particular* recording being played. Does that mean RUSH gets royalties every time a cut from Working Man (the tribute) gets airplay? How about every time a "bar band" plays a cover-tune on stage?

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Mark Metzger commented,

    >I have long been a proponent of what Fish does (former singer for >Marillion) to please diehard fans and combat bootlegging. That's cool, but for me, if I knew that each of those releases were widely available, my frame of mind might become less enchanted about purchasing them. One thing that keeps the hunt for bootlegs exciting is the fact that they are hard to find, and many are in very limited quantities. Gives a certain feeling of "Je ne sais quoi" (sp?) for having obtained one of these rarities. But the good thing is that the quality would be consistent.

    >If it's illegal, then it's wrong. Bootlegging is illegal, therefore it's= > wrong.

No. Definitely not. But Anton Max already took care of this one.

And regarding the definition of "bootleg" according to what has recently been posted, then yes, I'll agree that recording shows and distributing copies is indeed "bootlegging", contrary to my earlier claim. Which brings me to the central aspect of the topic. We understand the contractual aspect, we understand the ASCAP/BMI aspect, we understand that it's illegal, but.......

Is anyone really being hurt by bootlegs?

As an aside, allow me to comment that although I seldom find myself caught up like this in threads, I'm pleased to see how pleasantly each dissenting opinion has been presented. A controversial, yet low-stress thread. :-)
