The RUSH petitioning sounds VERY plausible. After all, Dave's band leader is
a Canadian (Thunder Bay, On) and The TFE should be out soon. Maybe we can
get them booked for the time when they're playing MSG or something.

REMEMBER: The email address for the late show is <lateshow@piipeline.com>

Conan's is <entertainment@nbc.com>, which is also the same address for
    Jay Leno and Greg Kinnear!

Maybe one of the jammers who are also on TNMS could forward this to that
list too. After all, it would be a big help to have the RUSH list on this
    too :)

First things first: CONGRATULATIONS to Mr. Mike Bahr. Remember this
one thing before you tie the not," Marriage is not a word, it is a sentence"!!!!

My last words on the tribute thing are these. Some people have jumped
to the defence of the tribute's, naming such bands as Yes, Judas Priest,
Jethro Tull ect ect.. Well the last time I checked these bands have not
exactly been setting the world afire lately. RUSH is still going strong, and
has not lost their fan base. If they don't like the idea of a tribute deal
with it. They can still call the shots. It is like the old statement says
"Where does a 500 pound gorilla sleep? Anywhere he wants" RUSH is still a
500 pound gorilla, while the other bands are on a serious diet.

WDADU was released on CD in 1989 in the U.S.A. I know because that is
when I bought mine. It does have on the back the mistake listing sides one
and two. I guess production costs were so low they (MCA) did not bother to
    change anything for the CD.

    Hey Jammers

I went to Berklee and though it may have its roots in jazz it is not an entirely
jazz school. The best I can some it up is this way: Its not a jazz school, Its
not a fusion school, Its not a classical or latin or rock school, Its just a
    music school. In order
to graduate with a degree in performance you have to have mastered many styles.
    They teach everything there.

    Yo, 'jamanoids....

Someone mentioned Mr. Porntoy quest-hosting the European HBB and listing his top
ten of reasons why everyone should go buy "Awake". Actually, it was a top five.
The reasons (as far as I can remember) were:

    1: Because he says so.
2: Seven strings on a guitar is better than six.
3: Five strings on a bass is better than four.
4: He and John Petrucci have beards like all of your favourite thrash and grunge
       stars.
5: The fact that Kerrang magazine has totally ignored the album proves that it's
       awesome.

    So there.

Is it just me or is the Metallica discussion getting too hot in here again? I
think I've seen a couple of guys starting to go off on that subject...be aware,
    Skadz is watching...

Everyone go get Stratovarius' "Episode". You'll thank yourselves.

And finally, congrats to bald Mikey. You should have kept your hair, though.

Letterman's also had Primus on, and yes, they were supporting a new
album. Granted, they may be more popular than DT, but I don't really
consider them a pop act. Conan O'Brien tends to go in a less-poppy
direction more often than Dave. I just found an old tape of Faith No
More on there (no, it wasn't a very poppy song). He also has more
lesser-known bands, too. Also, I didn't think Dave ever actually got
NIN on (I can't stand them, BTW). I do know he wanted to, but not sure
    if he did.

P.S. Mike Bahr, I couldn't have said it better (or even as well). I
had a hard time reading the rest of that jam because my mind was
thinking too much. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with you, too. Seize the

I did see King Crimson play on Conan O'Brien, and it was really cool.
I also found a tape of Brother Cain playing there last night. Oh, and
no, I didn't tape KC on Conan (just sort of happened upon it in the old
    dorm one night).
As far as supporting an album goes, We should start mailing Letterman
now so we can get them thinking when the album does come out (think
about it, if it comes out early next year, that's only a matter of about
five or six months). Granted, a mass mailing would be better when there
is an anticipated (a set date? date for the new album, but we can at
least get them thinking about DT.

No way, 16 is the age to be. I mean, no serious bills, you can get a
job if you want to (mowing grass for individuals is a lot better at that
age, though - they pay in cash so you don't have to pay taxes, and for
the time, the money kicks), and you can drive (legally). I also agree
about the days sneaking up on you as you get older. I mean, my 22nd
B-Day was like any other day. No biggie there.
The more I think about it, the more Conan's show seems more likely for
DT. I mean, the show is definitely better (I find myself laughing more
than once or twice each show now, as opposed to cringing in embarassmen
for him), and the acts are lesser-known/tend to be mroe edgy (though he
did have Hootie on recently). Letterman's studio isn't THAT far from
Conan's, is it? They could just do both. Cheers.

    Hi everyone, CRAZY here!

I don't own SG's album but have heard it. They should go by a name that
better suits their sound; Shitty Queensryche sounds like a pretty good
description. Maybe with their next cd they could try some originality, or
start paying QR some royalties, cause this is one of the more blatant rip
    off bands I've ever heard.

If this is the future of prog I'd rather listen to Green Day; at least they
don't try to pretend to be something they're not........

I don't think Dave's people really care when the album comes out. If you
email now somebody may read the message and then delete it and that's it.
BUT, if you have info in your email like the release date of the album, the
name of the album and if you can get them a contact person, you'll get a lot
better reaction. I GUARANTEE you if we do this petition now it will go
nowhere and then when we REALLY want to get them on, they'll just ignore us.

NO, only email them when we know what's going on. We only have one chance,
let's not fuck it up :)

All you musicians out there may be into this. There is a music store
called Lang Music that is putting up a new web site where you'll be
able to order instruments and supplies from. They're going to try to
compete with the many catalogs that are out (like Musicians friend) but
make it easier by having an on line order form. I'm developing the site,
and it should be complete in about 2 weeks...check it out if you have a
    chance.

more Dream Theater related items to stock (at my suggestion) :)

Greetings Fellow Ytsejammers How ya doin!!

    Just a few points:

    1) Mike Bahr - I dont know you (only been on the Jam for 2/3 weeks) but your
mailings made a hell of a lot of sense to me. Youve got your head screwed on
man - seem like a great guy - good luck with the engagement etc. I didnt
realise how many fellow Jammers felt the same affinity with the ACOS lyrics as
me - a lot of it rings too close to home for me!! I wish I lived in America at
the moment there defininetly is a great community spirit amongst DT fans and
i'd love nothing more than to meet up with like minded top people, there seems
to be a distinct lack of Jammers in the UK.

    2) Although the song titles of the new DT stuff may be correct I would take
the times with a pinch of salt - I saw someone on the DT bulletin board saying
'Lines in the Sand' was over 14 mins long whereas on DT Web Page it was 5!

    3) Think yourselves lucky you Jammers in the USA - England aint got a Rock
Music Radio of TV prog at the moment so I aint heard any new Rush etc. So i'm
relying on you lot to keep recommending new bands/albums etc. Kerrang magazine
has also turned into a almost alternative rock music publication so bands like
DT DONT get one sentence. They prefer to follow trendy bands and creep to them
trying to become buddies - obviously because most of the journos want to be
seen as trendy and are also probably FAILED musicians themselves. Just to show
you how bad the music scene is ove here at the mo. THE SMURFS new single
debuted in the TOP 10 this week !(SAD) whilst class music like 'Hey Jupiter'
by Tori struggles to get in the Top 30.

    4) On about lack of DT material etc - spare a thought for us.I managed to see
them live 3 times on the I&W tour but they only played ONE gig in England +
the Ronnie Scott show for the Awake album. Both of these were in London. Now
it might be a shock to some of you abroad but most of the population of
England doesn't live in London! Although I know the lack of Dates wasnt DT's
fault it doesnt make it any better!

    5) I've noticed a couple of references to Red Dwarf on the Jam - I didn't
realise you got Top Class British comedy like this in the US. We used to be
the best at making Rock Music but we still rule the world when it comes to
comedy. Do you get or have you seen any of these other top comedies in US?? :
Dads Army, Fawlty Towers, One Foot in The Grave, In Sickness and in Health,
Only Fools and Horses?? P.s.A new series of Red Dwarf is in production as I
    write!

    Anyway thats enough for now
Take Care all you fellow jammers
    YtseMark
P.s. Hi Mape, How ya doin ! - Your tapes must be in mid-air as you read this,
    hope you like them!!

    Message-ID: <Pine.SUN.3.90.960903082609.15288C-100000@rossby>

    Hey folks:

I FINALLY got my hands on the RUSH tribute here in central Oklahoma!!
You cannot IMAGINE how difficult this was. 2-3 solid weeks of searching,
finding out that they had 1 CD in stock, and it "must've been stolen", or
    we "must've just sold it"!

Well, enough. I would like to offer a couple quick comment that I do not
recall seeing many others mention regarding this tribute.

First, it seems as though most of the artists try to prove that they can
jam and play faster and more aggresively than RUSH. I mean, MANY of the
songs are very much over-done w.r.t. improvisation and all-out thrashing!!

Further, as I tried and true drummer and all-out Mike Portnoy fan, I'd
NEVER think I'd hear myself saying this, but I think that Mike also
over-did his parts at times, especially in Jacob's ladder. It just
seemed a bit active and fancy on the drums in the intro - albeit still
    awesome, though!! :-)

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE: Eric Martin (I love his voice in mission!)
MOST ACCURATE RENDITIONS: Mission, Jacob's ladder (way to go John P.!!!)
Closer to the Heart (that's easy to do though)
                              and Red Barchetta.

I think that this has been the problem with RUSH fans who did not
particularly like this CD - many of the songs were overdone w.r.t. solos
and improvs, so it took away the "RUSH" crispness to the songs.

BEST ADDITIONS IN SONGS (tasteful and exciting additions by the performers):

The trees and La Villa Strangiato. I think that Steve Morse in la villa and
Mike Portnoy and company do a TERRIFIC job on these 2 songs. Not to
mention that these are prob. my 2 most loved RUSH songs! By-Tor and the
Snow Dog was excellent, too, again thanks to Mike.

    Well, comments anyone? jcase@rossby.ou.edu

Well, they are all working on stuff, Gary might have just tried out for the
    hell of it...

Here's something that I recently snipped from the Netgraffitti #42:

"Well, there are a lot of rumors going around. The Boston Herald reported
that Gary was trying out for the Van Halen spot. The truth is, I'm
really not sure what is going on!

"What I can tell you is that as of this moment, the band is still together
and we can expect another record. Nuno's solo album will almost certainly
be released in September or January or whenever. We're just going to
    have to wait it out.

"Information is hard to come by, as the band is quite secretive and we
must respect that. When they are ready to talk, we'll find out
what's going on. Until then, we just have to hang in there."

I hope Gary stays with Extreme, but ya never know...

I finally got Working Man via cdconnection.com.

This cd rocks. I like every song except for the one Mark Slaughter sings
on. I think it is Anthem. He sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks... Good God!
I mean, I have 2 Slaughter albums and he does not sound that bad on them.
When I got to Devin Townsend (Sp) I was expecting some horrible vocals
from all the bad reviews instead I found a very good vocalist. I am now
inclined to buy Vai's Sex and Religion to hear more of this guy...

I also got Jason Beckers Perspective. This is a great cd and after
reading about Jason on the cd liner notes you really get a different
    perspective on life....

Well since a lot of jammers are DMB I thought I would give a quick review
of the concert Saturday night at Nissaan Pavillion in Fairfax Virginia.
It was a sold out 25000 person packed show. DMB are a very talented and
amazing set of individuals. An article in the paper called them a jam
band and well they definitely do jam in concert. Their studio stuff
pales in comparison to their live act. I recommend everyone to go and see
DMB if you have the chance.

I didn't understand the save the pig song though....

    good day, eh...

ok, just back to work after a long weekend. just caught with the jams.
saw Scott's reply to my post....

    >>I have been a RUSH fan since King Tut ruled Egypt. now, all this RUSH
bashing is really starting to get old and annoying.

    >Who's bashing Rush? I happen to love Rush. That doesn't mean I have to
agree with everything they do. I happen to think what they're doing by
giving Magna Carta such a hassle over Working Man is really fucked and they
should be told that. Living in America I know what a pain in the ass it is
to have to get cd's and LP's from other countries because they weren't
released here (ie. Live at the Marquee) and so making Canadians have to get
the CD's from here and risk having them confiscated at the Post Office as
contriband is uncalled for an inexcuseable. Especially considering they ARE
a Canadian band and were popular there years before getting success in the
    rest of the world.

you're right, you don't have agree with everything they do, i don't
either. and there are albums i like more than others. but i didn't
mention the tribute. i could care less about that. it's the overall
attitude regarding RUSH recently that was bothering some of us, and i
have gotten several e-mails of support. i figure they opposed the
tribute for their own reasons, or the record company did. or maybe Magna
Carta didn't abide by a contract or something. if i find it, maybe i'll
buy, maybe won't. people on TNMA have found it here in the US all over,
you might have to look a little harder, but it's out there. and not for
nothing but i've found Live at the Marquee in Sam Goody for past two or
three years. there's always a copy in stock.

    >>first and foremost, they have NOT sold out! they have EVOLVED.

    >That's your opinion and your entitled to it. My opinion is they sold
out, and I'll probably always feel that way. That said, I have EVERY
Rush album released and a few boots.

well, yes and no. i guess it depends on your definition of "sold out".
sold out to who? themselves? the record co.? the fans? as i see it, when
a band sells out, they fold to pressure of their record company or
what's popular today or put out the same album as the last one
immediatley. well, RUSH has never done that. granted, current music has
influenced them throughout the years, but they've always done things on
their own terms -- how, when, where, what kind. they write music for
themselves first. to me that's not selling out.

    >>you think RUSH'd still be around today at all if all they kept writing
    is 20
    >>minute epics? that would be selling out; just doing the same old thing
    that
    >>sold. all of those epics are great, i love them as well as the more
    recent
    >>stuff.
    [snip]
    >>as Geddy was said, "it has become easy for us to write long
    complicated
    >>pieces of music, therefore, it pointless to do so...". it was more of
    a
    >>challenge for them to write shorter songs. and Neil's lyrics also got
    more concise.

    >I read an article about two years ago where Geddy said they didn't
write long songs anymore (ie Cygnus) because it was too draining on
    them.

ok, well, the quote i included was from around the Signals/GuP time
frame and i have the quote. i don't about yours. sounds just an excuse
as they were aging. i've read almost every article/interview and never
saw that one. if you can cite the exact magazine and article, i could
check it out. i don't why they'd talk about that so far down the road
    since their last epic.

    >Anyway. I love Rush and will go see them when they come to town.

at least we agree on the most important point.
