Hey y'all
just picked up al di meola acoustic anthology from the local fred meyer for
8.99. it rocks hard. i was quite surprised, actually. They also had the
electric anthology for the same price, but 2 cds at once would kill me even
at that price. i've always thought of al as an acoustic guitarist anyway
so i picked up acoustic first. He is the master of guitar percussion. He
uses lots of mutes and rakes and golpes. Look for it in the Jazz section
of your local music store. does anybody else like this guy? Paco plays on
most of the tracks too. Just found out the g3 tour isn't coming anywhere
near idaho. o well
they have him listed as a. di meola in the song-writing credits in the
liner notes so they could save space. hehehe
Craig Wuthrich
p.s. got working man a while back and it rocks. I still can't listen to 6
and 7 though. cool songs but the vox are just way too gay.

I too was no more than 2 bodies from JLB at the Birch Hill show and
can vouch for the fact that he commands the stage. He was there and
very effective, really worked the crowd. as I said in another post if

Actually, the credits in the booklet say "all songs: Lee,
Lifeson and Peart except "Test for Echo" Lee, Lifeson, Peart and
Dubois." From what I remember, Guitar World's editor Brad Tolinski never
gave Geddy specific credit for the lyrics; he said what amounts to "Geddy
Lee sings these words." I'm fairly certain Neil wrote all the lyrics
though (he collaborated with Pye Dubois on "Test for Echo"). Tolinski
probably should have mentioned that.

(IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU ARE SEEING THIS POST, PLEASE
READ IT THROUGH COMPLETELY, THERE IS ALOT OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION)
Hey All ....
Here is my new weekly posting about how to get the most
(or least if you don't like us) out of the ytsejam. This will
be coming out weekly (hopefully) at least for a while since we are
quickly gaining subscribers since school is now back in session.
I may post it less often after a while, but for now, it will be
weekly.
To get on to the Dream Theater Mailing List:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
subscribe ytsejam Your Name
replace Your Name with your real name (eg: Ryan Skadberg).
You should recieve a confirmation letter in the your
mailbox within 24 hours. If you do not, mail
ytsejam-owner@ax.com and I will help you out as soon
as possible.
To change the mode you recieve the Dream Theater Mailing List in:
There are two ways you can recieve the ytsejam. The first is in
digest which is the default. This sends you a large message which
contains 15-20 emails each. The other is ack mode, which means
you recieve each piece of mail as it comes through. To do this:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
set ytsejam mail ack
OR
set ytsejam mail digest
If you have any problems, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com.
To get off the Dream Theater Mailing List:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
unsubscribe ytsejam
You should recieve a confirmation letter within 24 hours.
If you don't, once again, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com
and I will help you out as soon as I can.
To recieve files from the Dream Theater Mailing List:
There are many files kept by the mailing list server.
The biggest group are old issues of the jam. It is
archived since 1275. If you are looking for an issue
earlier than that, please mail ytsejam-owner@ax.com and
I will see what I can do. There are also other files
kept on the server. These include Mike Bahr CD Updates,
The "UnOfficial" Dream Theater SongBook and some others.
Any time I add something I usually send a post to the
jam so everyone knows about it. To get a list of the
files available from the server:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
index ytsejam
This will send you a list of all the files available from
the server. To retrieve one of these files:
Send mail to ytsejam-request@ax.com
For the subject of the message put:
asdf
In the body of the message put:
get ytsejam filename
In place of filename, put the name of the file you
want.
Basic Rules:
There are some basic rules to the jam which make everyone's
reading alot more pleasant. Please try and follow them as
closely as possible. I will send out warnings to people
who blatantly disobey these. You get one warning, a second
offense will get your jam priviledges taken away.
1. Do not post just for the sake of posting. There is already
a lot of valid traffic on this list, we don't need unnecessary
posts which are a waste of everyone's time. The basic rule
you should all try to follow is to think before you post.
2. No Top Ten (Five, Twenty, Thirty, etc) lists. These lists
are a waste. They take up alot of bandwidth and fill up
everyone's mailbox much faster than they would like it filled
up. If you want to know everyone's top somethings, please ask
for ALL responses to be mailed directly to you. This has been
done with the end results posted to the jam and it was very very
nice.
3. Do not start / participate in / complain about long off-topic
discussions. These have gotten WAY out of hand in the past.
If one starts, I will post once saying to stop and take it to
private email, anyone continuing the discussion will
recieve a warning. These include such topics as God, NIN, Blind
Melon, bands selling out, etc.
4. Private E-Mail is a wonderful thing. Use it when you think it
may be more useful than posting to the jam.
5. Last, but not least, this is YOUR ytsejam. I am around,
and I do administrative work, but I do not say what can/cannot
be talked about (most of the time) or moderate in any real way.
I am the Ytsejam Administrator more than Moderator. Don't complain
if the jam seems to be going downhill, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Basically, that is all the basic info. As always, if you have any
problems feel free to mail me. I get ALOT of mail on a daily basis,
so it sometimes takes me a while to get back to you, but 99% of the
time, I will get back to you eventually.
Thanks for Reading and Enjoy the List!!!

Yikes, it appears I've opened quite the can of worms. :p I hope it
was only coincidence that all this trouble popped up right around the
time I made the suggestion of being a little more careful (although
my post was in regards to various bands and their management, while
it appears that these "investigations" have arisen because of the
CD manufacturing plant).
For what it's worth, I'd like to offer a few tips:
1) Erase all your email having anything to do with your CD sales
(including all ytsejams that contain these discussions =). I know
this may be difficult considering you still have orders to fill, so
perhaps you can archive them and put them on a floppy and hide it
until this gets resolved, or print them out, or perform some other
action to get them in a more hard-to-reach place than your inbox.
As you can tell from my .sig and email address, I work for a rather
large company, who is rather well known for having a rather proficient
legal division, and the one piece of advice I get is to never keep
email around if you don't need it, because if some legal situation
arises, your email can be seized and used as evidence. I can only
imagine what your inbox looks like, so I thought this would be
relavent...
2) If you ever get contacted about this through email, send their email
address to Skadz; some attempt should be made to make sure the wrong
people don't get subscribed to the ytsejam. =) (ok, I doubt that the
powers-that-be out there are going to use email to go after you,
but you never know =).
3) You know where to go for help! Don't hesitate to send an update
that reads, "Hi! I'm Mike Bahr, former humble CD maker who is now in
jail and needs bail money!". I doubt I'm the only one here who would
send my own (admittedly meager) contribution to the Mike Bahr bail fund
(lol...I'm glad this is still a situation we can kind of laugh about,
because I find the possibility of that situation kind of amusing =).
Anyway, good luck and keep the faith!

Some other request, I am looking for instructional books from the shrapnel-guitarists like Ron Thal, Derek Taylor, Scott Stine, and others from that caliber. Does anyone know how to get that or some instructional video's or other stuff.
Marcel, it would appear that we are into quite the same players. Here's the deal: Mike Varney supposedly did some Shrapnel University books and maybe some videos. He was going to put them out as a series, like REH videos... etc... but he noticed the waning interest in shred music, and canned the project. I know some of the players that did books have finished copies, so somewhere, somehow, they do exist. I've met Scott Stine, (played bass for Derek Taylor on Crimeny, has a Shrapnel solo album out, and now plays one half of the guitar parts in Haji's Kitchen... technically blows Derek away, from the playing that I've heard/seen thus far) and he's willing to do some internet lessons. His email is scott1099@aol.com.
As far as the books and tapes go, I have heard through some friends that Derek Taylor and Eddie Head both have a bunch of them. I am DYING to get the Ron Thal book! My guitar teacher (a GIT grad) is working on learning some of Ron's stuff to teach me. I know I can get Derek's number, and probably Eddie's too. I also know that for $20 Derek will mail you a whole shitload of great guitar instructional stuff. Specifically cool for 7 string.
Hey... Lemur Voice is (besides a really weird band name :) on Magna Carta... don't you have any connection to Mike Varney? I know he owns a big chunk of the label. He can probably set you up with a bunch of his Shrapnel University stuff.
( I posted this to the jam, because I thought the guitarists would be interested. sorry if this bores anyone.)

Don't worry too much on the JP column... when DT was recording Awake EJ took it over, so, no doubt, JP just doesn't have time to write from the studio... which would you rather have: a new DT album, or a few months of JP columns? :)

For those of you who have a copy of my CD Player program for Windows NT 4 , NT 3.51, and Windows 95, there are some new additions to the lyric file page.
Thanks to Wayne Chesser, there are now Fates Warning lyric files for Inside Out, No Exit, Perfect Symmetry, and Parallels.
There's also a lyric file for Rush's new CD "Test for Echo" there as well. The lyric file page is http://www.monmouth.com/~rquezada/RQs_CDLyric.html
If you need a copy of the program, go to http://www.monmouth.com/~rquezada/home.html and follow the links to get a free copy. This is not a demo, BTW. It's a freeware program.

Hey everyone,
Whats the deal with the new DT cd? Did the guy's find a producer? Are they going to produce it themselves?
Other ideas for a producer: Max Norman, someone pull Martin Birch out of retirement :) Paul O'Neil and Jon Olivia...if they just make the bass louder on the next DT cd I'll be happy, Jack Endino, he did a killer job on Dickinson's cd, I was totally impressed with him.
