Yeah, I've always thought of Edge as more of an innovator in style and
experimentation with effects and stuff than a "guitar god" (I remember a
live show form a boot (I think) where Bono jokes about Edge being a
guitar hero when he hits a sour note, or something like that). Probably
the main reason some of said sounds are absent on R&H is due to the fact
that many of the tracks were live, thus changing the sound a bit, and
the non-live tracks were more or less extras from the Joshua Tree
sessions, where there wasn't quite as much experimentation a la UF or
Achtung Baby. And yes, I agree that Eno is likely the main reson for
some of the emerging of these sounds.

    >hey, I have an .ra file of this... <snip>
Yeah, I remember Steve & DC (I think) got a bunch of people together
and had them form a big bird (you know, the finger). They then took an
aerial shot of it and sent it to Axl. Those zany guys.
Speaking of bad vocal comparisons (what started the Axl thing), I read
a thing not too long ago that compared the voice of the singer from No
Doubt to Geddy Lee. What's up with that?
Not meaning to slag on Rage (who I don't like, but I rarely slag on
bands other than Oasis :), but that dude had no clue whatsoever. That's
    all I'm saying on that.
On the DT funeral song thread, of course ACOS would rule (I like that
idea Ben (I think it was Ben). Also, that list of different songs for
different kinds of death was friggin' hilarious, too. To Live Forever.
Yeah, that or TSM would be @ mine. Of course, I'd like a good heavy one
for people to remember me by. actually, now that I think of it, LSOAD
would be nice. Heck, just play every friggin' song by the band. It'd
be a long funeral, but at least everyone would remember me for great
    taste in music. Later all.

I have a question about KC.
    Where do I start?
I've just heard some songs from Poseidon, and I like those, but I've also
heard that Red is supposed to be the "best" start. Or what is your opinion?
I've just found a CD-dealer that sells "all" of them for $10.

Please, send me a Email, preferably direct to me:

    Hi all

All this stuff about the various line-ups of Yes (see past Jams) got my little
ol' brain working, and I came up with the following question: when is a band
    not a band?

Can any of you out there think of a band that still exists although none of
the original members are in the current line-up? The closest I managed to get
was Black Sabbath, with Mr. Iommi being the last of the originals. Can anybody
help me out with this one?

On to other things. A helpful fellow Jammer (hi Dave) recently dubbed Sieges
Even for me. This band blew me away. Almost always heavy, strong progressive and
jazz influences, excellent guitar work, really wierd song structures (more
chops and breaks than in a karate school). In some ways it reminds me of the
early stuff by UK. If you like challenging complex music, then get this. And
for those worried about musicians not getting royalties because of dubbing,
I went out and bought the album yesterday (interesting cover too, you'd almost
expect alternative or grunge inside). Germany can be proud - Superior, Vanden
Plas and Sieges Even - go Krauts!

Does anybody else listen to Samael? I've got the last album Passage, and I'd
appreciate recommendations about what else to buy. Incidentaly, Passage shows
that drum machines can be good - the double bass stuff is arse kicking good,
and the machine certainly outplays Phil Collins!

So, the abbreviations are listed in the FAQ. What's the FAQ? (warning: attempted
    humuor)

Some new releases that I'm looking forward to: Anathema, Theatre of Tragedy,
My Dying Bride, oh yes, and that prog/hair band from Long Island.

    stay safe and happy listening

Sorry to waste bandwidth, but I thought a little input here might stop a LOT of input later...

Lexis-Nexus is a rather famous and well-established company which does information searches on people for lawyers, etc. It's mostly used for checking on people when they are buying or selling a business. It checks for bankruptcy records, divorces (if your ex-spouse owns part of a business you're selling, they have to check the property settlement agreement to make sure he/she gets the percentage they're due) aliases, UCC checks (Universal Commercial Code, I think), etc. Nothing terribly sinister. I've looked thru Lexis documents before and unless you're looking for court records or something, it's nothing big. Sort of like someone saying "Wow, if you pay some agency money, you can hire a detective and get lots of info on someone!!!"

basically, in music, 7.57 stands for 8 minutes, for me at least. we are not talking about track-and-field here.

but who gives a monkey's ass about song lengths anyway? i remember a huge thread about it.

I've been reading the Jam for a few months now, and I just thought I'd take a second and finally introduce myself. I've been listening to DT since IAW first came out and JP totally destroyed me with his sound and technique! I've been playing guitar for about 7 years now, and he still blows me away every time I listen to him!

Anyway, this brings up the question I had. I tried to send mail to the Warner Bros. address on the DT homepage so I could pick up the "Awake" tab book, and I got the letter returned. Is this the only place you guys have seen DT's music books around?? I'm dying to get my hands on one!

A warm hello to all Atlanta Jammers out there!

I see a lot of people complaining about the lyrics on TFE by Rush. I can't believe people are comlaining about them. I was the only one who complained about the lyrics on Ear Candy by King's X. Almost every song on EC has the chorus for the song said over and over and over again. I can see complaining about the lyrics on EC but TFE doesn't come close to the boring lyrics on EC.

I have the first couple branches of the DT tree made out. I was going to work on it this weekend, but due to a death in the family, it is going to get delayed until early next week. I have contacted those people on the first branch to send me there DAT's for cloning, and the second branch to work out shipping/dubbing arrangemnts with their parents. Once I get the tree structure finished, I will send it out to everyone. Sorry for the delay.

Whoah! Hold the phone! Someone posted about the big bad P-Trax system knowing a lot of personal stuff about you. This thread circulated around my company and we did a little digging.

The makers of P-Trax does have this nation-wide database thing. It is supposed to help lawyers and law enforcement officials identify things about you. It does not contain credit card numbers, personal habits, mother's maiden name. What it does contain is stuff like your name (or names), your past two addresses and in some cases, your phone number. At one point in time, it did have your SS number but so many people bitched about it that the P-Trax people had it removed. Now, if they won't allow stuff like SS numbers, do you think they'd have something like credit cards and credit histories?

Another thing is that you know all of those credit card companies who send you pre-approved card applications? Well, hate to say it but they have more access to your private credit history than P-Trax.

Also too, P-Trax is very expensive to subscribe to in order to use their database. Not many crooks (OK some define lawyers as crooks. :D ) can afford their services and for the most part, their services contain info that anyone could dig up provided they have enough time. What these people are paying for is the convience of having that infomation at their fingertips.

Most of this hysteria has been generated on the Internet by a few misinformed individuals. P-Trax does have a website (search for them on something like AltaVista). From what I understand, they put an explaination there. They didn't publicly flood the newsgroups with the explaination because it was too much ground for them to cover. They figured that people would visit their webpage to find out how to contact them (to have their names removed) and would read the explaination there.

I do not work for P-Trax nor does my company retain them as a client.
