Na, it's a mailing list for Dream Theater fans...for Dream Theater fans
to talk about whatever the fuck they want. Not whatever you want.
During a DT drought like this, the type of DTC you hear includes someone
posting that their ex-roommate's best friend's third step-cousin's
paperboy heard that DT won't be recording anytime soon because JP has
chronic diarrhea, or the one ytsejammer from Siberia posts" to the dream
theatre. please come to preform some of your lovely music for I and my
    brother Mishka. PULL ME UNDER!"
I'd rather hear about some jammers' diverse musical tastes.

I just read something on the LIfting Shadows page that said
that the regular US Fix for 96 shirts that were for sale will
now be replaced with the new European Fix shirts. What
is the deal with this?? Is there anyway I can get a regular
    US Fix shirt? Anyone know?

    Neil?

What do the European shirts look like? LIke the US but different

If you will visit one of these gigs yourself later, don't read this. It contains spoilers. Yesterday, April 14th, I got the opportunity to go and see Dream Theater at Melkweg, Amsterdam, supported by Enchant. I had interviewed DT before so I contacted Warner Bros to get a photo pass. Luckily, they were still available. The gig had already been sold out for quite a while, and this was the only way I could still get in :-) The doors opened at 20:30, at which time people oozed in. I had interviewed Mercyful Fate (and been healed by King Diamond :-) a few weeks before, so I knew how to get backstage. Nobody was paying any attention there, security-wise, at least not when I walked there. I had already gotting John Myung to sign all my stuff (including A, SfaM, WDaTU, CD and AD) but now I was keen on finding Mike for some questions. I ran into him near the dressing room, where I had a quick chat with him. His right hand was wrapped in a band aid, by the way, he had supposedly dislocated his little finger during a drumsolo earlier in the tour. I asked him when they were finally going to hit the studio, and he told me not to quote him on the fact that they'll enter around May 20th (so I won't :-). They intend to release the enormous amount of surplus material on CD singles, if possible, and maybe an extra EP to be released later. I also asked whether they'd be doing another Fan Club CD, and he told me, just thinking out loud, that he'd like to do that. I then got him to sign all the stuff and continued to wait for other members of the band. Derek, like I had expected, wanted to sign "stuff he'd played on" :-) James came by a little later, and was very impressed by the "Carpe Diem" CD booklet but didn't want to sign it :-(. Petrucci came last, and he was cool too. Enchant was OK, though I spent their entire 50 minute set backstage so I could only hear it. But they sounded really quite good. Will check them out soon. At 21:45, DT took the stage. They played a variety of old (Ytsejam, Killing Hand) and new stuff (The Mirror + Lie, ACoS interspersed, Pull me Under, Learning to Live, a totally rearranged Caught in a Web) and five 'sneak previews of the new album'. These included "Burn my Soul" (I am not sure about the "burn" part), Lines in the Sand (14 minutes long), Take Away my Pain and two others songs. They were all made up of balls'n'chunks, and I can't wait to get the new album! TAmP was more laid back, a song John P. wrote on account of his father passing away. The audience didn't react too brilliant to it. They ended at about 23:50, at which time I had to run to catch the last train home, after which I heard them coming back for what I suppose was the only encore, "Metropolis". The band were really tight, James had a great voice, and especially John P. and Derek were trading licks the whole time, having great fun (and it showed). Luckily no Silent Man and all that stuff, and I didn't miss 6:00 and Another Day either (heard them quite often enough). And that, as they say, is it. -- /--------------------------------------------------------------\ | Richard Karsmakers cronos@worldaccess.nl | \--------------------------------------------------------------/ C.R.I.M.E. Yeah, they are a band called Local H, I think the song is called something like "Down on the Floor" or something like that. I saw the video for it and all I saw was a guitarist (who sang) and a drummer, but I am sure I can here a bass in the song.. Oh well...

Anyone out there got any in-depth reviews of Precious Things? Now that a lot of them are finally hitting homes (based on all the confirmations I'm getting in e-mail) I'm curious to know what the reaction is, especially to the "new" material like Solar Groove and Freeport Jam, Raise the Knife, and Lost Without You.

A quick note for everyone as per usual: business is booming right now. Things are going so AWESOME in CD-land that I'm falling behind on shipping a little!! (though it won't affect schedules any, because I've been gradually pulling ahead in shipping and this balances it somewhat). Since this is a positive problem, and it's the kind of problem I really don't mind having to deal with, I just wanted to shoot a GIANT thank-you to everyone who is supporting my Rush and Dream Theater projects, and especially to those with long-standing orders who have been patient and understanding through all the turmoil of earlier this year.

Anyway, I'm likely to actually run out of WDATU, the way things are going, and I never thought that would happen any time soon. Thanks to everyone, and for all the new folks out there, please don't miss out on these special limited CDs, because I hate to be the one to tell you when there aren't any left. As previously mentioned, Experience to Extremes (Rush 2-CD) is extended to 250 due to _overwhelming_ demand.

I can't wait till you all see the liner to Darkest of Winters!! I'd put it on the web page now, but that would spoil the GIANT surprise.

Take care all!! CD info can be found at the webpage below. ---v - Mike Bahr - durnik@goodnet.com - http://www.goodnet.com/~durnik

Hmm, i just read a review of an indie prog band in the latest HM Magazine that sorta struck me as intriguing. The band's called Metropolis (guess why they caught my eye :). Here it is:

"If you're going after the Dream Theater sound, you better have a great vocalist; and you better be good musicians; and you better not bore us with incessant jamming. Metropolis scores fairly high on all accounts with "Behind Mysterious Walls." Marco Verfurth does a splendid job with the vocals, using his lungs to full capacity and knowing when to hold back. The songs are very good progressive metal, and the band writes well enough to to actually not be laughed at when compared with Dream Theater. These guys are good. For ordering information, check out the recent radrockers' catalogue (http://www.radrockers.com I think). This one's from Germany, so it may cost a little more to get, but fans of prog metal will love it." Anyone ever hear these guys? I'm interested, but a good review doesn't necessarily equal a good album.

Actually, Local H doesn't have a bass player, they're a rock "duo". The guitarist modified his guitar so that the bass strings (E, A, D [not sure about G]) are pickup-ed additionally, which are sent to another amp's clean channel. It's kind of like stereo outputs, a la the Hamer Duo-Tone.

    My fellow 'Jammers,

I was looking through a couple of guitar magazines, and I noticed Mesa/Boogie advertisements for Soundgarden. These were 2 page advertisements, and showed various amps. Now that Soundgarden is no more, and JP is doing even more clinics, what if we contact Mesa/Boogie about an ad campaign for Petrucci? Think about it, he's one of their few artists who actually has information and sound clips on their web page, and with an instructional video, clinics, a European tour, and an album forthcoming, they could really do well. Also, he's known and respected in the guitar community, and instead of endorsing the trend of the month, Mesa/Boogie could demonstrate integrity and artist support. Any feedback, positive or negative/civilized is welcome.

    Sincerely,

    G. Jack Thetgyi

I am in the process of revamping my once horrid homepage and want to include two new sections under the music category: First-I would like to compile a listing of every homepage owned and maintained by a Jam Member. Secondly-I would like URLs for high quality Prog Metal Sites either corporate or private for any Prog Bands.

My goal is to provide an area where we can go to link to each others pages and also find some of the better Prog material on the net listed by band name.

Please assist me by emailing me your personal URLs and any Prog URLs that are worth linking to. I appreciate the help and will let all know when the project is ready for usage.

    Hi Jammers,

first of all I have to say sorry for my retard, I know there were already the Munich and Milan reviews on the list, but I didn't find the time. So, if anyone is interested here are some impressions from a fantastic Nuernberg-Gig:

The time waiting for Dream Theater was shorten by Enchant and they have done very well. Then an amazing show of 5 musicians not from this world (?!) followed. Most of the songs were played in a fantastic modificated version. In my opinion Derek's keyboard sound gave the songs a new refreshing style. Here is the setlist, like it was written by hand by Mike Portnoy: ACOS - Sunrise ACOS - Innocence The Mirror/Lie Burning My Soul Another Hand/Killing Hand Just Let Me Breathe Caught In A Web Peruvian Skies Pull Me Under Lines In The Sand Take Away My Pain ACOS - Winters Ytsejam Learning To Live ACOS - Sunset ============ Metropolis Pt.1

Hey, is there anyone who wants to produce a boot of this fantastic show ????? Please mail me privat.

    Take The Time

    Andi
