    Hiya...
Just thought I'd post a few thoughts:

    >I'm confused, can anyone tell me where *fucking* New Jersey is?

No confusion really: the proper name is "goddamn mother fucking New
Jersey". It's an easy mistake to make unless you live there. :)
Can anyone send me # 2452 and 2453. More stupid server problems.
I hate this phreaqing thing. But then again, if a No Doubt thread came up
in those issues, I don't know if I really want them...:P
INXS was sold out and the bloodsucking brokers wanted $75!!!
Here's hoping I win the website contest!

    Hello!

I just read in a swedish newspaper that John Petrucci is going to play
on the pub Dojan, which is in Gothenburg, on the 21 of April. It also
says he plays in Stockholm the day after. I don't know where though.
    I couldn't belive this when I saw it, it's great! I haven't seen DT
live. I guess this is as close as I'll get to it untill the next album
    comes out.
Maybe I'll see some of you there.
    Well.. seya!

    Kristoffer Sundberg.

    Hello!
And I almost forgot. The G3 boys are starting a tour in the
middle of June, only it won't just be the G3 boys. They are looking to
gather in the neighborhood of SEVEN of today's finest for the festival,
which will be in outdoor venues. HEY GUYS: GET NUNO!!!!! Yeah right...
What they have in mind is diversifying things also to get a more eclectic
group. Who knows, maybe BB King will be there!
Also there is a live disc coming out that's a combination of four
shows. They did some overdubs so of course, it's not true to form. Songs
on it will include Manhattan, Cool #9, and Answers, along with the jams
at the end. Am I the only one would would rather do without overdubs? It
pissed me off to find out that there were some on ACOS. I knew it sounded
    too good.
Oh, and all of this info came from the latest Guitar World which
reprinted the tab for Cheap Trick's Surrender for the THIRD TIME. And no,
I didn't buy it. Goddamn profiteering moneygrubbers...

It was a dark and stormy night...

I don't think that I'd identify Soundgarden as a Progressive band, in the
traditional sense...but there, again, is a significant base of progressive
music fans (try beating this topic around on r.m.p) who don't find Dream
Theater a particularly progressive band, either, and think that any time you
take a band that combines progressivity with other musical stylings (Pink
Floyd, Rush, Dream Theater), you're doing a disservice to the concept of
progressive music. My own definition of "progressive" music is more
omnivorous, which is why I made a case for Iron Maiden a while back as a
band that has progressive tendencies. Soundgarden I would also consider in
    this category.

And I'll take up a couple of criticisms of the band: A healthy portion of
the band's legacy was created by people who WEREN'T Cornell and Thayll.
Hiro Yamamoto certainly was a force in the band prior to "Badmotorfinger,"
when he was replaced by Ben Sheppard, who wrote my personal favorite,
"Slaves and Bulldozers." Matt Cameron is another story entirely....he is
extremely well-received by the drumming community and is generally seen as
one of the best of the "new" crop of drummers (if we can call someone who's
been visible for more than a decade "new"). He's a tremendous talent. As
to Cornell's vocal stylings -- an abrasive sound, which he certainly DOES
use from time to time, is not necessarily one which is out of
tune...Cornell's a phenomenal singer, effective in a number of environments.

There was a post a few digests back (apologies to the person who nailed this
one on the head) arguing that criticizing Queensryche for changing "their
sound" is one which is, generally, misfounded, as they haven't really
established one consistent sound during their career. "Empire" was
radically different from "Operation: Mindcrime." And "Mindcrime" certainly
has a different sound than "Rage for Order." Incidentally, I'd say "Rage
for Order" is a "progressive" album, but I would say that both "Operation:
Mindcrime" and "The Warning" are more so...and that "The Warning" is the
real overlooked gem in the Queensryche catalog.

And I'll agree with Mike's assessment of "Chasing Amy." Hell of a
movie....go and hunt that baby down! Kevin Smith is just a tremendous
    filmmaker.

    Hi,

I have a friend that sings in a local SF Area band called
*Zero Hour* and back in 1994 they put out a self-titled
CD. I talked to him last week and he gave me a copy to
listen to and fi I liked it let people know because he has
a few hundred laying around the house and would be
willing to give out copies to anyone who wants them.

Well, I really like these guys, my friends vocals are good. Not
the caliber of someone like James LaBrie or Geoff Tate, but
pretty good none the less. The guitar work absolutely smokes
on this album. I won't say the guy's as good as say George
Lynch, but he has the same playing style. This is *definitely*
    a *metal* band.

If you'd like a free CD of Zero Hour then send a Self Addressed
Stamped Envelope to me at the below address and I'll make sure
to get one out to you. You can have as many as you want
*within reason*, but remember to have enough postage to cover
the shipment. Also, we don't have any padded envelopes so please
remember to include whatever you want the CD(s) shipped in.

Thanks for you time Y'all :-)

Spice Girls- yeah, I love them. Seriously. Guess it makes me strange to love
bands as far out from Dream Theater to Spice Girls to Carcass to Ramones.

Speaking of No Doubt, another cool song I hear on the radio goes "and you
just don't get it, keep me copastetic and you learn to accept it, you know
your so pathedic"... Anyone know who this is and what CD its on. I really
want the CD- its another one of the alternative bands I love.

Just got a new QR boot from...gasp...Tunnel Records. Silent Lucidity- MTV
Unplugged/Live In Amsterdam. Haven't heard it yet..wisdom teeth just got
pulled out- extreme pain meaning I must go.

Probably not, it WILL be terrible. I'm still waiting to see a band playing there with a good song. Nad I cant't forget Edu Ardanuy's (Dr. Sin) anger in MOR'94 when his amps turned off just when he started a solo... :)

Now you're being selfish. DT is by far my favorite band, but that does not mean that other bands (and, as these ones, much older ones than DT) HAVE to have less fans than DT, or have to be treated with less respect. They're selling a festival, not a DT gig. It's more interesting for them to sell the names of Manowar, Judas, Dio or Whitesnake, cause probably they have more fans around here than DT. But that does not mean DT is being disrespected.

Sheesh man, chill... Yes, Dream Theater is a very talented band... Yes, all of us on this list are pretty fond of their music... Yes, many of us that have gotten the chance to meet the guys say good things about them... But you know, they are just human beings like the rest of us (well, excluding the aliens and mixed species among us). Being a fan of a band and showing them some respect for their art is a good thing... being fanatical to the degree that you just showed in your post is a bit much though. Here's a hint: try branching out into hobbies besides starting your own Dream Theater cult.

Anyone think that it's people like this that give 'fans' a bad name when they meet a band member and drool/spooge on them and then try to rip the shirt of their back as a souvenir? Sheesh... I'm hoping this guys message just got garbled a bit in translation.

    DrX

P.S. Quick note: Everyone's recommendations about Angra are worth heeding. I finally picked up a copy of Holy Land about a week ago and this is a beautifully orchestrated album. Anyone that likes their music with some depth should check this band out.

Just in case anyone still cares, there's an interview (I think I have a copy somewhere) where James explains where the ND shirt came from, I think Barney gave it to him, but he says that at the time they shot that video he had never even heard ND, and it didn't sound like he was kidding. He may have checked them out since then, though. I'll remember to ask him next time he calls. -Clark

Chaos Theory kicks ASS! I don't see a DT clone in these guys at all. Pretty oddball, and strange kewl stuff. The first song sounds Enchant-like to me and you can see the DT influence, but nothing as far as a cloning operation.

I really don't like em either. I don't see anything great about them. I've not listened to but two or three songs, and while they are kinda catchy, they really don't do a thing for me. Most of the people I know who bought the album bought it "Cuz the singer's a babe." I think I'll go buy that Dream Theater CD since the singer's got a nice butt. (Or just "go wipe my ass with it" to quote the late Sam Kinneson (however it's speeled)). :)

Here's a new thread for everyone! If you could clone a member of DT for yourself, who would it be?

Mine would be James for personal reasons... <j/k> (Actually my Petrucci clone is on backorder. Seems everyone is getting these)

Sounds like a typical ytsejammer to me. :) Don your ytsejam shirt and face Long Island, my friend. Give 3 hail ytsejams and you will receive your augury. BTW, I've got some of Kevin Moore's old toenail clippings. The street value of these has gone down a bit since they're still slightly radioactive from the chemo and especially since he left the band. Mebbe they'll go up after the Fates album goes out. :) Any bids?

I must say, it's about fu*king time someone dedicated a site to me. I was beginning to grow impatient. :) I'm there. :)
