Alright. The guy John Kalodner is doing A&R at Sony (works for
Aerosmith,Journey, maybe re-union Ratt) right now. The meaning of John
Kalodner: John Kalodner is "Nobody can do what he can" There's no

Well, if it's true, he's talking about the album AFTER the next one,
because I've seen many interviews with Lars saying album number 7 will
be Load pt 2 because there was 2 CDs worth of material in the Load
sessions, and Load was supposed to be a double but they decided to
release one disk, tour, then release the other and tour again.

Wow! You're not going to believe this but a couple of years ago, I was crankin' DT in my
car, and a friend of mine said "You're so obsesed with these guys that you are going to
call your next band Dream Theater". I turned and gave him a dirty look and cooly
replied "Nah. I wouldn't go that far. It would be more like... ...Nightmare Cinema!"
This was followed by him groaning and rolling his eyes.

Anyways. This sounds like it was a riot. Sounds like a classic gig to me. I would go
to great lengths to get a copy of this. Anybody have any details?!!!!!

    Jammers-

I was wondering if anybody had any ideas where I might find interviews with
Queensryche where their views on technology are discussed. I would like to
find some statements by the band members as to the interesting split
between their socially oriented lyrics warning of the rapid dehumanization
process taking place in the modern world, and their personal embrace of
technology in performing. I am thinking here, for instance, of their total
wirelessness in concerts (which makes them appear to be able to amplify
their voices and instruments without the usual "human" mic cables), but
there are many other examples. I know of one interview a few years ago in
GFTPM when PL was released, but I was hoping some of you really huge QR
fans had any other sources. Have there been any fan-oriented biography
type things written on them where such issues are raised? Anyway, thanks
for your help. Private e-mail would be appreciated: pillsbur@ucla.edu.

In fact, this will reportedly be the case if the record label can work
things out with him. He was at the show in Amsterdam and liked what he
heard quite a lot. The downside of this (which was mentioned before) is
that he indeed is pushing for a 60 minute (single) CD. I believe that
his intent is to create a more commercial (or at least more commercially
successful) DT but I dont know this for a fact, just my guess.
Reportedly MP is trying to put as much material on the CD that will fit.

Some random, non contiguous, rambling thoughts after the return from the
three (count 'em) shows in NL which is a very fun country to visit if
you enjoy having a good time. First and foremost, thanks to past and
present jammers who got me tickets. Really decent of you.

Importantly, repeat after me. "JP is really on top of his game."
Nobody seems to mention this in their reviews (????) but his playing
leaves me in awe. Not that this wasn't the case previously, but at
these shows he showed me everything. Maybe people have been lulled into
expecting this level day in and day out, I dont know how/why.
    Absolutely brilliant.

The Melkweg was a really decent place to see a show. Great sound
system. The best that I have heard DT sound yet. The Noordlight (sp?)
was a decent enough venue with terraced platforms for good sightlines
but the sound system was pretty lame. Supposedly, Tilburg has built a
new complex (with three differently sized halls) so maybe the next shows
there will be better although gawd is Tilburg in the middle of nowhere.
I'm pretty poor with my geography being from the US, but I think it was
near some country like Albania or Belgium or something ......:)

It would have been nice to have more varied setlists (even Enchant who
were really decent as a warmup band mixed things up a bit), but if you
had to ask for a setlist, this would have to be close to the best.
Especially two shows back to back in the same city.

Peruvian Skies and Lines in the Sand remain far and wide my favorites of
the new stuff. I really hope that they dont let some clown water these
songs down when they record them. The biggest highlight for me was the
extended version of Another Hand/The Killing Hand. The slower jazzy
part in the middle was great.

Great to see Derek fitting in so well with the band. I even heard the
keys in the mix a little. Really. And, James sounded really great -
especially in Amsterdam. Thanks need to go out to MP for putting on one
hell of a show each of the nights despite being sick as a motherfucker,
    especially in Tilburg.

James does, however, need to take a few lessons on crowd management. At
the second Tilburg show, he got himself in quite a bit of a pickle.
Well, the incident started when Derek got a hold of James' mike and made
a joking reference to James sounding like David Lee Roth. This quickly
deteriorating situation was not helped one bit by the fact that each of
the boys started playing VH and DLR excerpts although it was funny as
all hell. James motioned a few times for the boys to cut the shit and I
really believe that he was completely pissed off. Then a heckler or two
    says something.

<the following is paraphrased from a cloudy memory>

James = "What is this - some kind of fucking circus ?" (said at every
    show ??)
One particularly Rude Heckler says something
James = "What do you think we are, a fucking jukebox ? (note no humor
conveyed) <pause> Do we look like a fucking jukebox ? <pause> Did you
pay all that money to yell at a fucking jukebox ?" (me now remembering
that the prices indeed were a bit high)
Rude Heckler continues to say something
James = "Shut the *fuck* up" (very stern tone, note no humor at all)
    Heckler says something more
James = "If you dont shut the *fuck* up, I'm going to come out and kick
    your ass"

At this point, Mike is pleading with his hands to try to calm these
people down. James had really painted himself into a corner. If the
hecklers said almost one more thing, I really feel that James would have
left the stage. He really had no choice. I think that James needs to
lighten up, if this is possible. The rest of the band seemed really
mischievous, humorous and fun and this is probably the best way to
    handle a situation like this.

James should take lessons from frontmen like Fish on how to handle these
situations because they are bound to keep surfacing. Its best to humor
them and try to let them get their steam out. And definitely dont back
yourself into a corner with them. He actually came across as just as
rude and childish as the hecklers.

    >> Trail/trial of tears.
    >> <imitating Horshack> Oh! Oh! Oh! What's it sound like?

I am very poor at articulating thoughts on a new song until I have had a
few listens, but I do know that it was about 12 minutes long. I had
trouble identifying the song structure for the first 1/2 of the song due
in part to the poor sound system but the last 1/2 was a bit more easier
to follow and seemed to flow well.

Neil Elliot is really a decent person and I want that silver majesty
lapel pin !!!!!! He said that there were rumors of "increased material"
being made available to fanclub members in some form. Hmmmm. Tits on a
Ritz !! If ever there was a petition to be circulated it should be to
Neil to make this a reality. What a great idea. Especially if some
producer is going to eliminate the material that is "less accessible"
    from the official releases.

Finally, hello to Bart, Rudy (rip), Graham and Cob - had a lot of fun
watching fat Frank sing Wild Thing, etc. !! To Graham - beware of all
that cola. Could be a sign of a problem. Have you fallen asleep yet ??
Should have gotton right back on the horse.

Heheh :) Okay, here's a non-prog metal band chicken story. Enjoy!

This angst filled chicken begins by running across the road as fast and
furiously as it can and it begins to attract some attention early on.
Sensing this, it refine's it's running style into a well-polished,
Lightning-fast stride. Out of nowhere darts a speeding bus and rips off
one of the chicken's wings, its favorite wing. VERY quickly paramedics fix
up the chicken and give it a wing transplant. While still a good wing, it
doesn't even compare to the severed one.
...And the chicken runs again, but he's getting tired now and he's getting
older and he begins to slow down. The public seems to like this slower,
cleaner approach, but the people who were behind the chicken from the start
feel betrayed that he didn't keep up the fast pace. He seems to maybe have
lost the ferociousness he once had, but some still believe he has it in him
somewhere. Now the chicken stands in the middle of the road pondering the
question, "Which direction should I go now?"

Anyone up for guesses as to who this band is? It should be blatantly
    obvious :)

Peace and love, and good happiness stuff, ~Vince

I don't really get it. Why bother pushing for a 60 minute cd when you
have the 74+ minutes worth of material. I would think that a 60 minute
cd would be just as commercially successful as a 74 minute one, because
last time I checked, a 60 m. cd still costs the same as an 80 minute
one...maybe this new producer is a lazy fuck?

So we've all heard it stated that DT will probably release just a single
cd this time around, and I'll guess that we all grudgingly agree that
this WILL be the case, so let me ask this. Wouldn't we all be as happy
as furry little woodland creatures to see the boys change their image if
we got a double cd release out of it? If smashing pumpkins can put one
    out...

Hey, folks. I just got some mail from Mike with some very good news.
    Here's a small snippet:

Anyway, the main reason I am rushing out this email instead of sleeping,
is to FINALLY pass on the Official Word that we will begin recording the
long-overdue new Dream Theater album next month (May)
with producer Kevin Shirley (Aerosmith, Journey, Rush).
The projected completion is around August, and if that stays on schedule
then the projected release would be late Sept./ Oct.
There is no album title or track listing as of yet...

    That's the news! Party on!

            Hi all!!

"Dream and Day" from the upcoming TDOW CD was on a tape full of
demos and material I got from the WDADU era. Ironically, the "A Vision"
tape came from a different source. Dream and Day is, as far as I know, an
instrumental not heard anywhere else in DT lore. It's rather short, and
has an abrupt ending like Pull ME Under (or perhaps it's a real tape cut!)
but it's really cool sounding. I think a lot of you will dig it. It sounds
like... hmmm. I'm not sure! Like a cross between Where's My Thing and
Ytsejam. The other WDADU demos will be featured on an upcoming CD, which
may or may not wait for the real release (remember, I told DT I would slow
down on releases so as not to steal their thunder here on the net). I had
the tape of demos for a long time, and couldn't use it because I had
promised my source I'd keep it under wraps. However just recently another
source gave me a slightly clearer copy, and he didn't give a shit _what_ I
did with it, so now that nobody would get in trouble for it, I'll use the
material. I already have the next DT boot planned out, and it's a doozy.
I'll tell you all this right now: everything on it is uncirculated.

You may all hate me for this... remember two weeks ago when I got
second row center for Rush on May 8th? Well, I got FRONT ROW CENTER for
Queensryche on June 28th!! Melissa, me, and Nate Bradley will enjoy
the view from up close and feel sorry for you folks in the grass. :) How
did I get these awesome seats? I just found a ticketbastard outlet (in
Gilbert town, of all places) that has a competent clerk that knows how to
grab the good seats fast. Get this: I was FOURTH in line! The first six
people in line at this outlet got front row.

Take care everyone... may health and prosperity follow you.
